What can be said about Angel Beats! is that at it's core it is very real. What I mean is that it feels very genuine, whether it comes from the backstories or the characters. In 13 episodes it manages to tell a very touching story about dreams, tragedy, and other topics without ever feeling too dark or too light. One thing that I will say is that it sort of starts to get in a rush during the last few episodes, and it definitely could have used a few more episodes to flesh some things out more, but besides that it is just great. It's definitely worth the watch, as it is a lot of fun, and will likely have you emotional at some times.

A gripping heartbreaking study on how unfair people’s lives and deaths can be and how so many people live and die with regrets - the concept in my opinion was beautiful - loves how each charachter managed to find closure and free themselve of any guilt and regret that they may have left the original world with - the twist at the end with angel was jaw dropping and changed the whole perspective on why she was the way she is - all the idea that they could’ve still potentially reincarnated and met each other in another life as tho they were always fated to meet was beautiful and left even me with happy closure - overall a great show about the living and the dead

The me before watching this never would've thought that he would cry this much. Angel Beats turned out to be an emotional experience for me. I went in with no serious expectations, and after episodes 3 and 4, I just considered this to be another "okay" anime. I was drawn in it afterwards. Among everything, the score for this anime is miraculous. It's flawless. I've not heard a soundtrack this good in an anime ever. As for the anime itself, I enjoyed it. I was highly curious of what was going to happen next, especially in the second part of the series. The characters, at least the ones whose backgrounds we were able to learn, felt interesting. It didn't disappoint with the time I dedicated to it.
But, what this anime lacks is depth for characters, as everyone points out. There are SO MANY…

This anime was amazing from many points of view i cant lie,i really enjoyed it.I enjoyed it because at the end it has a sad part and for me personally made me cry...
The animation was great,i cant say much about it.
The story,i dont know what to say, there is no actual backstory or story in a 13 episodes anime.
So overall i really enjoyed this anime since it had many fun moments that made myself laugh but even in the sad department they didnt dissapoint me there, and from me,it has a score of 10/10 no doubt,a short anime but still,a good one,i totally reccomend it.

Animation and design quality is absolutely beautiful, and fit's the story perfectly. Character's are presented well, and their designs are thorough, most of the character's have redeeming qualities, and the show makes it easy to understand each and everyone.
Great sound design and OST's, one of the few I still remember to this day.
One of those anime's where most watchers would enjoy regardless of their genre preference's; fun and well rounded overall.
Decent plot, amazing execution. For most anime's with similar plots, it's rare to find one that's as polished as Angel Beats. It's not necessarily a one-of-one show, but there is definitely something special about it.
Sad as hell, but funny as hell too.

This anime is absolute peak Drama
Angel Beats! is absolutely glorious and perfect. It made me laugh, and cry, and I just loved all the drama and the story is not as paper-thin as one would believe. I thought all the characters were awesome. The ending made me cry it was so good. In summary, Angel Beats! is amazing and is really emotional and if you haven't seen Angel Beats!
STORY : 8/10
The story is really unique; I’m not sure if it counts as isekai or not, and I really enjoyed watching it
ART : 10/10
The art is beautiful. Beyond what we've come to expect, the animation is amazing, Yuri Nakamura is very pretty, she's my WIFEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, I LOVE HER SO MUCH,I WANT KISS HER SO BADLY, I WANT LICK HER, PEROPEROPERO

Angel Beats!, a piece of art claimed by most to be a masterpiece and I can attest to that. It's a symphony of well-tuned pieces creating a very beautiful life re-affirming piece of art.
It's animation doesn't feel dated at all with it suitable even with it's technological aesthetic in parts especially with Kanade. It mainly is early 2000's technology so whilst it is not hard to imagine if you lived then it might be a slight bit jarring for newer audiences especially with the more contemporary technology they do include feeling out of place ever so slightly aesthetic wise which with it's animation makes it stand out a bit. This doesn't ruin it by any means and I'd argue highlights the element and makes you critically analyse it.
Audio wise it's peak. The backing track is phenomenally don…

Angel Beats is one of those rare anime that fully deserves a 10 out of 10 because it delivers an unforgettable emotional experience while still being fun and engaging. It masterfully balances humor action and drama creating a story that feels lighthearted at first but slowly reveals a much deeper and more meaningful core. The series explores themes like regret purpose friendship and acceptance in a way that feels natural and deeply human which makes its emotional moments hit incredibly hard. The characters are memorable and easy to connect with each one adding something important to the overall message of the story. The soundtrack is outstanding and plays a huge role in amplifying both the comedic and emotional scenes making many moments truly iconic. Even with its relatively short length…

5 sentence review:
Cool concept, has a very strong start.
Very funny, can't think of annoying fanservice moments.
Crybait, except it works with the setting.
Ending is good (kinda).
Anime was too short for its own good, giant missed opportunity.
Hinata was my favourite. Random thoughts:
Artstyle is pretty, Kanade has a good design. Hinata and Otanashi are the broest of bros, are you really best friends if there's no gay allegations going around? If only there was more episodes, when I think of anime that are too short for their own good I immediately think of this. Oh yeah, I also liked Naoi (idk if I'm spelling his name right lol).

Angel Beats, now this was peak media. It keeps you wondering what will happen next. It somehow balances comedy (shout out my goat TK) and drama masterfully. Fair warning, it gets heavy. The backstories of the characters are DEPRESSING. You learn about the characters and how the world works throughout the show, if you have questions, be patient, they'll likely get an answer.
The story is great and has you believing one thing under your world gets rocked by some new information. The ending too, man, I cried. There's a reason this anime has the name that it does. The only reason I didn't give this a 10 is because there's a bit of a question mark as to the end end. To hit a 10, I need to have 0 questions, this was very close to being a 10 though.
It's hard to write a review for this without…

7.5/10 here are my opinions
Pros:
- beautiful visual (especially for the anime standar in the past, in terms of graphic quality standard)
- nice OST (not all, but half of it)
- at first it seems like gag comedy action sci-fi (?) but later u will be surpsied bcs the genre will take a huge twist into melancholy drama genre
- it has some good moral values
Cons:
- the setting and theme is actually very great but the execution is kinda lame, nonsensical, and even cringe. With all the scifi-like elements - the way the story progress was kinda rushed
But anyway its worth to try so go ahead

This anime is enjoyable even after years passed since first watching it. (rewatched 2x)
Worldbuilding and mystery and figuring out the logic of the setting is engaging and sensible-- while the explanation for how such a world came to be created is almost nonexistent, it's nothing foundational that makes a lot of plotholes as implications. There are interesting character interactions connected together by juvenile but stupidly funny gags, which makes an anime like this that ACTUALLY HAS NO HAREM SHIT very memorable; too may times there are harem tropes that the anime almost fell into but cleverly maneuvered out of.
But there's a side character romance that isn't very well written, not because there's no chemistry but because they had no serious moments together outside of gags that made t…

This show is deceptively good. Starting out as a light hearted riff on the afterlife, the story becomes a deep cutting, heartfelt, & emotional rollercoaster of a show. The different emotional tones set up as the episodes continue are all carried out near flawlessly and makes the large cast of the show into something truly memorable.
This show definitely earned it's reputation and has aged wonderfully. The art style is good but it's absolutely carried by the emotion behind the amazing soundtrack, stellar voice acting, and genuinely terrific writing.
Definitely a must watch for those who can enjoy a good heartfelt story on top of some late 2000s humor.

Angel Beats! throws us into a remarkable situation at the beginning, where you have no idea what you're really in for, but at the same time everything you learn sounds interesting. The first 5 episodes definitely have the most energy and I really liked the combination with the songs - the intro itself had a perfect song and I also liked that the opening and ending changed depending on the situation in the series. This series about the afterlife doesn't have perfect episodes and it probably lacks some deeper story, but I still really enjoyed it and every episode was actually fun. Now I can probably disappear with peace of mind.

I watched this show actually around July 2025..
Around the time many students were graduating from highschool and usually on tiktok there was this tiktok edit trending where the song "two different worlds" would be used to show how each student vanishes from the friend group as time goes on and tbh that's what really exemplifies this show's ending for me. The beauty of crossing paths and parting ways, the beauty of life...
Funny enough under the YouTube comments of that song, someone wrote: Maybe in another life she's mine.
And truly, maybe in another life Otonashi and angel do find each other again.
This doesn't deserve 8.05 on MAL
Sensational.

EDIT: The First Beat VN/manga/the gacha game, Heaven Burns Red is in my opinion the definite way to get the most out of the Angel Beats project. And no, 2nd Beat never sadly. Everything I said about this anime still stands, but I'm starting to appreciate it more after reading the First Beat VN.
I am a diehard Key fan, but this show is just not it, man. Jun Maeda can make beautiful stories when he wants to, but then you have shows like this where it makes me wonder what Maeda even wanted to write in the first place. When I want to consume a Key work, I consume it with the intent to laugh and cry. This show does none of these things and I came out disappointed.
Some of the characters are simply rehashed from other Key works -- Tenshi = Kagari(same VA's AND shared tropes too), Yuri = Saya(…

*Brief Review-Reflections*
~~
Ichiban no Takaramono. That's it. That's the tweet.
As a nostalgia merchant, good ol' Maeda Jun's *Angel Beats* is a tight link to my early days of conscious anime watching dating back at the era of nightcore, where Angel with a Shotgun's poster girl had me tightly shackled to the "winged woman in a school uniform" aesthetic, so much so that Tachibana Kanade capitalized my admiration thereof to make me flood my run-down PC with desktop wallpaper fanarts of her. *Angel Beats* had everything going for it to be a definitive cornerstone of my youth as a sad high school anime with "mass deaths" of characters with substantial screentime, clip-worthy comedy and eccentric actors, as well as iconic soundtracks which feature a cool stoic girl with white hair and whit…

An overall average anime that really picks up steam after the three quarters mark and somehow becomes one of the most heart-wrenching yet happy anime I've seen. It is certainly impressive when you take the whole anime ending included, but watching it from the beginning is rather difficult. While the ending is predictable from the beginning of the series, it is still incredibly good. The mid parts should be suffered through to get to the gem of an ending at the end. The serious story beats are sometimes interrupted by mid slapstick, but when the comedic parts are segregated, they also are rather effective.
