Ao no Exorcist: Kyoto Fujouou-hen, a season that reconnects with the manga. I find that this second season is slightly better than the first season. It's always a pleasure to find the protagonists of the series, even if I admit that it's not easy to follow from episode 17 of the first season while knowing the filler episodes. But I quickly got used to it. On the other hand, Shiemi Moriyama is still quite annoying. The animation and character design evolve and remain pleasant and enjoyable to watch. In terms of the soundtrack, I love the opening even if I prefer the opening of the first season. The ending is magnificent and the OST is consistently good. In short, this season is always a pleasure to follow!

"The season has its flaws, but I still think it deserves a second chance—because don’t we all?"
This review is all about forgiveness, and you’re about to find out why.
Blue Exorcist is an anime that most of us had given up on, never expecting a sequel—mainly due to the anime-original ending of Season 1. But the unexpected happened, so here we are.
Season 2 stays more faithful to the manga, but because of the deviations in Season 1, a lot of things simply don’t make sense. If you haven’t watched Season 1 or need a refresher, it’s best to stop at episode 16 and ignore everything that comes after.
The Flaws (Contains Spoilers for Season 1)
The story is completely inconsistent with the ending of Season 1. Kurikara, Rin’s sword, breaks, and both he and Yukio come to terms with his flames.…

This season, I believe, is for people who prefer things to be straightforward.
Story - 7/10
Some parts of the story were continued from Season 1. The first few episodes basically summarize what happened in Season 1. The plot was coherent throughout. The story was pretty simple and it didn't really please me. It was a little tedious. Many things were predictable. I do feel like it could've been done better. The good thing about this season is that they get right to the point without dragging it out. There was some lightheartedness sprinkled throughout. The mystery surrounding the demon didn't really hold my interest. I didn't find it particularly interesting. They certainly enjoy displaying Shura's body. I wasn't paying attention.
Art - 9/10
The art style was quite fitting for the story.…

OKAY, FIRST AND FOREMOST, YOU'VE GOTTA FORGET EP 16 AND ONWARDS OF SEASON 1 TO GET THIS...
...and if we're clear on this, then you get here: the kyoto-hen arc.
To start off, I would first like to tell you that this has spoilers, probably from the anime, and the manga.
Now that's settled, let's start.
First, I get why people hate this anime so much: the characters. And I swear, half the cast did get on my nerves. Probably thought that they weren't even vital to the story. So what changed my mind?
If you don't have enough patience, and if you don't read or aren't planning to read the source material for Ao No Exorcist, then, I pity you. You're missing a lot, no kidding.
Characters: 9/10
Let's start off with Shura. Okay, I've seen comments about her being a drunkard, better yet, about…

I was taken by a rather strange fervor when I discovered the first anime and manga. As often when I start to adore a manga in such a spontaneous and inexplicable way, my interest is first taking before declining after a few weeks to come back to reason, as after a good drink. And I am aware, that in any case, Blue Exorcist has nothing fundamentally transcendental... but it is nevertheless a favorite that I want to share!
This suite surpasses the first anime, and by far. Blue Exorcist was already pretty good, but Kyōto Saga has, moreover, recent improvements in the quality of anime (the otaku audience having become demanding and fond of quality achievements). The BO has been preserved, which is a huge plus, especially for the continuity of the work, but also because I loved the original BO…

“Ao no Exorcist” or “Blue Exorcist” is a Shounen show which is normally pretty high up in popularity and ends up in everyone’s watchlist, especially at the beginning. Is a manga adaptation animated by A-1 Pictures studio, which for 2011 was able to produce one hell of a show.
Starting off strong with animation, this show is really good when it comes to fights, scenes and specially, In character designs and their powers. Each characters feels different and have cool powers to go along with, it’s true that it follows a bit the variety almost required by a Shounen series, but it is still something to praise. The fights feel good to watch and are well choreographed and animated which, in these kinds of shows is an essential.
The plot is not tha…

So I complained a lot about the first season, but this one wasn't bad at all regarding it's accuracy to the manga.
This arc was a good arc, the only thing that was a bit annoying was the very dramatic use of the power of friendship trope near the end.
Yeah this series isn't my favorite, I like the characters a lot, but the storyline isn't the most amazing thing in the world, it's just that season 1 made me so mad because of that ridiculous ending.
But anyways I have no complaints with season 2 regarding that, so yeah thats all I gotta say.

(Reviewing both seasons)
Blue exorcist is the epitome of mediocre. I was drawn to the show via the premise. Demons are often used in Anime as an enemy group, but very seldom do anime tie that in with religion and specifically Christianity/Catholicism. I quite like history and topics related to this (Dantes inferno, Renaissance paintings, etc.) However, blue exorcist is a complete let down. The main reason being that the show has nothing particularly noteworthy, especially the story.
-Story: 4/10, The story uses the "Fight of the week" style progression which bores me to death. Easy to follow true, but lacking in complexity and depth. Predictable, Unintuitive, and Slow.
-Art: 5/10, Typical mid to late 2000s shounen art, need I say more? Its not bad, but I cant give it a good score if it…

I origionally meant to watch this season when it first came out, but I never really ended up getting round to it til good ol' 2021. I watched the first season waaaay back when in 2015.
First things first - I was, for some reason, under the impression that this was a prequel to season 1? I'm not sure how I got this impression, but I do remember it being stated that there was no intention of a sequel for the storyline of the season 1 anime. I was definitely a little bit confused at first, but then I got a little more confused since there was more than a couple of plot holes in the story that was supposed to bridge season 1 & 2, but then again it was been quite a while since i watched AnE the first time though I don't think my memory is failing me here.
Although there wa…

If you were confused after watching season 1 and don't know if you should continue watching this, I'd say it's not worth it unless you have a lot of free time in your hands.

Ok so I watched season 1 and thought it was pretty good, nothing amazing but it got to the point I was hoping for it to get to: Rin facing satan.
I have to admit that after I found out that all of that was basically anime original it made a lot of sense since it was really rushed, it went 0 to 100 in very few episodes. But it wasn't a mess.
Although the character development was deeper in this "timeline" I don't think that necessarily means better, because this is obviously meant to be more, this is merely an arch, I know, but it feels like the plot moved sideways rather than forward.
It…

The only thing I feel is disappointment. Like I watched the first season and then, the second, and I truly expected more. I feel like they could have done much more with the story, but they really didn't.
I also hate almost every character on the show, like literally, almost everyone mistreated Rin in some sort of way and it's so annoying, it isn't even funny nor does it help the story at all, it just makes the viewer feel annoyed honestly.
Like, going back, Rin just discovered he's the son of a demon, his father died and everyone has been lying to him almost all of his life. Then, when everyone discovers he's a demon, people reject him and fear him, even his own little brother. It's just plain sad and I didn't like seeing that.
Also, last season, the characters supposedly resolved a…

For me, Season 2 is quite good. For me, the quality of the animation is great too. The character faces are really handsome and beautiful. I love the action.
It backs to the original story and has a smooth storyline transition. I really enjoyed it overall!
I hope season 3 for Ao no Exorcist.
If you haven't even read this manga, I recommend you to read it. Hope you all enjoy the anime and manga as well. I score the story for the manga is 10 out of 10! Sorry for my bad English. Happy watching guys! Happy watching guys! Happy watching guys! Happy watching guys! Happy watching guys! Happy watching guys! Happy watching guys! Happy watching guys! Happy watching guys! Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga
In advance, I have to note that the season does not follow the end of season 1. Episodes 18-25 were not canon and accordingly, they do not exist in season 2.
Don't get confused by this. Ao No Exorcist only follows the manga in the second season. However, almost nothing changed. This season had exactly the same problems in terms of characters, story and tension.
The plot was far from creative and nothing developed. In the end there was a final battle against a demon and that was it.
The characters and their relationships were at least somewhat in the foreground, but they all felt quite weak.
Compared to the previous season, this one has almost no qualities. Sympathy was maintained, but nothing could match the average.

WOW! This was actually the most dreadful fucking anime I've ever watched. I could not wait to finish this garbage. The characters had no development, the action scenes were the most boring I've ever watched and watching season 2 just had me confused as to why I watch anime. 8 episodes of the most boring build up only to lead into the dullest action sequence ever witnessed by man kind. He fights a cum blob and scorches it. That's what 8 episodes gets you. And a side fight with a completely unknown villain who had 0 development and no one cared about. LOL!

Picking up where the original series diverged from the manga, Kyoto Saga manages to remaster my interest in the series ENTIRELY. While at first, I was content with the first series ending, watching this and reading the manga past changed my view of it. This brings back all of the dropped character developments and rehashes that occurred in the first series and sets itself back on the right path to potentially continue to bring the manga to an animated light.
The only downside to this series is that it does not make it obvious to an outside viewer that it follows the manga instead of the anime. It gives an idea of where it leaves off from the original series thanks to a few flashbacks, however, it is not clear enough and left a confusing taste in my mouth. It's also not clear that the res…

Ao no Exorcist was a very mediocre show it has nothing really to make it stand out and be a great show. The story was decent nothing too complicated but nothing too interesting either. The minor villains weren't really that interesting or rememberable (The finale might've been the only rememberable thing). I do feel like the duality of the brothers Rin Okumura and Yukio Okumura was very well made. I liked to see the interactions had with each other since they were opposites in personality. I also do like all of the other characters such as Rin's friends they do provide a well needed comic relief. I think that this show isn't really worth it to watch because there are much better 1 season animes to watch that will actually stick with you. I would not recommend Ao no Exorcist.

WARNING: There may be minor spoilers.

I enjoyed the Kyoto Saga. It has high stakes, decent character drama, and awesome battle moments. The way it addressed Rin and his friends' strained relationship due to the discovery that the former is the son of Satan was well done. I can't help but root for Rin while at the same time understand where the others are coming from. As a result, I hoped the they can resolve it somehow. Yukio's character arc was also great to watch.
That bring said, if I take the first season into account then the Kyoto Saga feels disjointed or out of place. For context, the first season strayed from the manga since the characters discovered Rin's connection with Satan. The deviated anime version isn't bad, but the ending is pretty unsatisfying. The Kyoto Saga, on t…

It is very much a kids show with a really excitable main character who does not really achieve much but sneakily gets the right skillset off screen and then saves the day...kind of.
The art shows its age and the randomly weaved in CGI is shabby at best.
The soundtrack is solid, not quite on FMA level but solid nonetheless.
The main selling point is the fan service aspect in Shura and the rare time when the main character is presented using some unorthodox thinking to solve certain situations.
Warning! With the above in mind Rin can be excessively dumb. If you are looking for an action anime or fantasy, there are better titles out there, especially as far as the maturity of the content is concerned.

The manga was really good and I was excited when I found out it had an anime adaptation, however, I was disappointed, to say the least, due to the poor animation quality and mediocre soundtrack. Not to say that this season was bad, in fact, it's ten times better than the first and that is because it stuck to the source material. Maybe if this anime was animated by another studio, I would have given it a higher rating. I do recommend this to anyone who has seen season one but to those who haven't and are trying to get into it, I'd say, don't waste your time, read the manga.

Ao no Exorcist: Kyoto Fujouou-hen (2017)
A continuation of sorts to the first season with a replacement of the events around about episode 16 and 17 with a more expansive story. Based on that they have only just found out about Rin's powers leaving most of the group scared of him with some exception. Rin must prove to everyone he is not bad whilst also preparing to take on a deadly foe.
Art
Same as before. Slightly more refined in areas so ultimately as great.
Sound Epic as before and done really well. Me & Creed is a new favourite song for me.
Characters
Rin gets more development in the sense that some of the events in the first series either haven't happened or are playing out differently.
Yukio is going down a dark path it feels in his future. He is developed more but is stil…
