Masterpiece. This deserves to, and should exist. I don't care if the intentions with making this were to just make something shocking and not to shed light on sexual abuse or whatever, in fact I'm pretty sure it was made just to be shocking. However, its meaninglessness works in its favor. Theres no point in trying to intellectualize stories like this. You could only create an accurate portrayal of this reality by making it meaningless and disgusting. People truly don't understand that this is exactly how bleak and painful reality is for many victims, and thats proven by how many people are completely convinced that this is unrealistic, excessive torture porn.
Whether he intended to or not, the creator made one of the most visceral, accurate, and realistic stories of trauma and abuse Ive…

I watched this series (animated and live action movie(s)) quite awhile ago but I keep seeing people shame this, in my opinion, wonderful movie. Although it has severe graphic scenes and foul language this movie shows the way society treats and views children and the concept of innocence being manipulated or forced off a child or the vulnerable. Its a raw piece of reality that some people cant bear to accept, nothing wrong if you found this show too disturbing to view to completion but I believe it is wrong to just diminish this film to nothing more than a "gore and violence slop" film it portrays much more than that. If you dont like this movie thats quite fine but dont portray it as something it is quite frankly, not just because you have a biased opinion or because you cant comprehend ce…

★★☆☆☆
This anime was honestly one of the most disturbing things I’ve watched. I knew it had a reputation for being dark, but I didn’t expect it to rely so heavily on shocking and disturbing scenes. A lot of the content felt excessive and was clearly made just to make the viewer uncomfortable.
Although the anime drawing style was cool, I would not recommend this anime. But if you want to see some disturbing media I guess you can watch it then but for me, this anime made me very uncomfortable.
The animation and style fit the creepy tone, but that wasn’t enough to make the experience enjoyable. If you’re sensitive to graphic violence, disturbing themes, or psychological horror, I would definitely stay away from this anime.
Overall, it wasn’t for me. I can understand why some horror fans m…

I suppose I ended up watching this movie for the same reason most people do nowadays: because it's widely considered the most disturbing anime ever made. I already knew it would contain some unpleasant scenes, but I think the story itself is even more harrowing than the scenes it portrays.
First of all, I have to congratulate the writers. If their goal was to make the audience feel uncomfortable, they couldn't have done it any better. Considering how old it is, I think it has held up remarkably well, and I'd even say it has aged surprisingly well. The storytelling is clear, and the overall pacing and progression are easy to follow.
It's impossible for me to mark this movie as "recommended" because, for obvious reasons, it's not something you could watch with your family or in many other…

Do You Want To See A Freak Show?
Midori Is one Unforgettable anime, that will stay with you, even if you don't want it too.
It's one of those anime, that just jumps between absolute cruelty and horrific imagery, but then when it stops, you just left with boring story and uncompelling characters.
The one thing the anime truly has going for it, is its design, it feels so limited and barely holds together, that it feels like something out of this world, that should not exist.
Curiosity killed the cat, and that's how I feel about this anime, should you watch it? No, but you probably will just because, it's so weird.

From its first moments, this anime positions itself within a philosophy that recalls Sartre and his infamous formulation: hell is other people, with the film’s “Prologue: hell of others”. Midori’s suffering emerges from a group. The circus, that grotesque congregation of bodies and desires, is a living manifestation of hell, as they actively construct her suffering. The terror is in that there is no escape from a structure.
“My flowers have strayed”, says Midori, sounding like Ophelia in the gutter. Akin to her, Midori is a child suspended between innocence and dissolution. Like Ophelia, Midori is tied to floral imagery as a prophecy. She does not carry flowers, she is one: a fragile bloom already marked for decay.
The image of the mother; bleeding and collapsing into death, is one of th…

I gave this anime a 1 out of 10 and honestly it still feels generous.
Chika Gentou Gekiga Shoujo Tsubaki tries to shock the viewer instead of telling a meaningful story. The entire experience feels like it exists only to be disturbing, uncomfortable and edgy without having anything interesting or valuable to say. There is no emotional depth, no real character development and no moment where you feel like the suffering shown on screen has a purpose.
The main character is treated less like a human being and more like a tool to push grotesque scenes. Instead of building empathy, the anime repeatedly crosses the line into tasteless exploitation. At some point it stops being tragic or dark and just becomes exhausting to watch. Shock value alone is not storytelling.
Visually, the style does n…

As far as niche guro flicks go, this one is *fine.*
The story is meh. It's really surface level, just torturing the protagonist for the sake of it really. The characters are incredibly one dimensional, with each one only getting MAYBE a couple moments of meaningful screen time. It just was not long enough to have the characters be fully fleshed out in any way to get the viewer invested. Even with the MC, Midori, she has very little substance. She is only thrown around whichever way the other characters want her to go. She feels more like an object for the other characters than an actual protagonist I should care about.
The art itself is the definition of a mixed bag. There are times when all that is shown on screen is a still image with a voice over that fades into another still image w…

A very misunderstood anime. Most of the bad reviews come from people who are shocked that guro is actually guro, or who think this anime promotes things like rape, violence, or pedophilia. In reality, it does the opposite. It condemns them and shows them in a raw and realistic way. With only 8 chapters in the manga and 50 minutes for this movie, it managed to leave a strong impression. Whether you like it or not, you can’t deny that it is original and memorable.
Strengths
1. Very powerful moments in a short amount of time
2. The art is beautiful, especially for people who enjoy guro
3. Everything is shown clearly without needing long explanations
Weaknesses
1. I felt unsatisfied at the end. I would have liked the end to be more developed or at least a bit clearer
2. The animation relies…

I apologize for once writing that Junii Taisen is the worst anime I've ever seen. Because this anime is 10 billion times worse.
This terrible anime deserves to be banned in Japan. I heard that Harada Hiroshi couldn't find anyone to take over the project so he made this anime himself. And it really deserves to be undone.
The story is about a camellia girl who has a miserable life. Then she is lured into a freak circus. For what? To have a life 10 billion times more miserable than before. This movie seems to be a horror movie with a one-sided plot. It's just a constant barrage of horrible torture of the main character to make the movie creepy. If that's the case, I bet the movie succeeds. It's not only creepy, it's disgusting.
The main character being a poor girl seems realistic. But the s…

I was looking for an adrenaline rush, and based on TikTok recommendations, the movie Midori promised to keep me on edge at night because it was supposed to be “disturbing and scary.” The Tiktok said “it’s banned WORLDWIDE”😱😱
To be honest, the unsettling feeling didn’t last very long. While some scenes—especially those involving vomiting—were genuinely nauseating for me (I do have emetophobia), that was the extent of my discomfort. The film didn’t genuinely scare me. In fact, many scenes were so unrealistic that they failed to evoke any real fear. For example, the graphic portrayal of a puppy’s insides exploding after being thrown to the ground was exaggerated to the point of absurdity; such a thing wouldn’t happen in real life, not even if someone stepped on a puppy. I believe the movie…

Watch this only if you've already given up on humanity anyway or have your therapy covered and on speed dial.
The only reason why I wouldn't "recommend" this anime might be that I don't want the review to be crossed over as 'pretentious' or just trying to be edgy by liking something absolutely diabolically disgusting. (Could be me though...) But I think a mixed review is fitting enough, regardless. You really shouldn't watch this if you aren't used to media like this, you'll lose your dinner, sleep and your innocence if you had any to begin with.
Anyway, if you are curious, like I was, or came here because of armless, bandaged aesthetic, (Muchisute Tokkuriji) I shall brief you on what you are about to witness if you can't steer your gaze from the impending train wreck.
Midori is a Power…

I've been collecting eroguro for a few years now so of course I'm familiar with Maruo Suehiro's status as a pioneer for the genre and his work as a skilled drawer, both "erotic" and "grotesque" as the name of the genre implies. Something I've always loved about anime, and what's always drawn me to the medium, is the willingness to tell stories and try out ideas that would be unthinkable in the Western media I've always been exposed to. Watching "End of Evangelion" in high school was like a religious awakening for me. Audiences outside of Japan have gotten a bit more savvy to the more shocking and "out there" ideas coming out of anime, but eroguro remains as something untranslatably weird.
It's kind of amazing to me seeing shoujo horror manga hitting the mainstream. Junji Ito, who I would…

Im neutral about this anime. So to start off, this anime has physical abuse, r-pe, pedophilia, gore. Although i might watch this again one day.
Small summary:
Midori’s mother dies, bedridden. She gets invited to a circus to make money. But this circus crew were honestly sadists.
She gets r-ped by muchisute, taking her virginity. The crew members abused her. But masamitsu is there to save her.
Masamitsu is like the only one who’s nice to her and she falls in love with him.(Also Shes a minor soo…)
And in the end she basically has a bat and she beats them to death.

Hiroshi Harada’s independent project is a grotesque mélange of hagriding imagery, the artistic virtue of which is repressed by inane depravity. Midori is vulnerable following her parents’ demise; struggling to remain afloat without a pillar of support, she seeks assistance from a man who once promised her sustenance. Her life, however, takes a turn for the worse, descending into a spiral of sexual abuse and mental torture. I can’t entirely depreciate Harada’s sedulity as it’s no easy feat to singlehandedly produce a film, but he mismanages a sensitive topic by inclining towards inefficacious gore instead of delicately examining Midori’s psychological degeneration. Even the body horror, while initially disturbing, fails to cultivate a perdured sense of angst due to the fast-paced event tran…

In some ways I think Midori is overblown, it isn't nearly as bad as it's made out to be, though parts are certainly excessively graphic and hard to watch ... those poor puppies.
That aspect of it, it's taboo nature, it's shock value is simultaneously the least and most interesting thing about it. On the least interesting end it spawns endless waves of surface level discussion about its contents, but that discussion as well as the discussion surrounding whether or not content like this should be viewed and seen as art or is just "cruelty and shock for the sake of it" is fascinating and ties into its production, release and place in the media world.
The coolest aspects of Midori are probably hearing about its history, it being banned and first and foremost how it was made, a single person…

I don’t quite think I have the words for this one. Along with the fact that what hasn’t been said about it already?
So I’ll just say this. It’s a masterpiece, plain and simple. It’s grotesque and upsetting, sure, but so’s life, and art shouldn’t shy away from showing this sort of thing.
It’s not as fucked up as some puritan terminally online folks seem to think, but it’s definitely something I can understand some people having trouble sitting through it.
I do not like the reputation this film has, mostly by people who have not seen it, so if you see this review, take this advice with you: Do not believe the people that call it torture porn, and don’t believe the people that claim it deserved to be banned and to never see the light of day, watch it for yourself, and then judge. It really…

So, I got a recommendation for Shoujo Tsubaki from a friend after we talked about Perfect Blue. The only thing she told me was that it was super messed up. And it is. So much so that it took around 9 pirate sites for me to find the damn movie. I thank whoever made this that it's only 50 minutes because I don't think I could really feel good after watching it for more than an hour. I mean, with the main themes being betrayal, exploitation, abuse, and human depravity certainly makes it an uncomfortable watch.
But here's the thing, it is a horror, but it's not that horrifying. What I mean is that while the movie is grotesque, vivid, brutal and disturbing, that's it. So if you get horrified by pure imagery then you'll have a tough time. However, I'm not trying to say that the imagery isn't ho…

This is one of the most controversial animes ever created and has even been banned in several countries. I've decided to watch it due to its fame of being disgusting and horrible due to the amount rape, violence and body horror present within the anime. And man, was I disappointed. Don't get me wrong I wasn't expecting much from a technical standpoint, I knew the movie kinda sucked in that sense but, at least, I was expecting to get horrified by looking at it and, instead, nothing. There were a couple of scenes which were a little hard to watch but even the parts who were considered most disturbing just didn't draw almost any reaction in me. Maybe it's me being desensitized as I've seen plenty of stuff or maybe it was because these weren't real people and it was just an animation, a rather…
