I am embarrassed to say that for some reason, it took me a few times of being unable to get past the first episode to actually finish this anime, but once I did, it EASILY made its way into my top 5 favorite anime of all time. This anime doesn't really leave anything to be desired and you're thoroughly entertained the entire time while watching it, there isn't really a boring arch at all.
Hunter x Hunter is one of those rare anime that seems almost allergic to staying in one genre. It can spend an entire arc feeling like a colorful adventure and then suddenly become something deeply psychological and disturbing. What makes that work is that the series never feels like it is changing identities, it's simply revealing another side of what its world has always been. It can be a fun adventur…

ABSOLUTE CINEMA, MAN!
I tottaly recomend it for everyonee. Honestly, for me, the worst arc, is like, 7/10, HOW THAT'S EVEN POSSIBLEEE?!? I loved the main characters, the antagonists and the deuteragonists, It has such a great CAST.
Fantastic soundtrack, I even saved the playlist on Spotify.
The storytelling is sooo good, It's definitely not a classic journey, and it makes perfect use of kishôtenketsu.
there are a very few things I tought could've beem better, but they're TINY compared to everything I loved.
CAST: 10/10
VOICE ACTORS: 10/10
SOUNDTRACK: 10/10
STORY: 9/10 ANIMATION: 7/10
ARTSTYLE/DESIGN: 8/10
OVERALL: 10/10
that's it. I can't keep gushing over Togashi anymore! lol

Hunter x Hunter is easily one of the most special anime I've ever watched. It's one of those stories that starts as a relatively simple adventure and, before you even realize it, slowly transforms into something much bigger, more complex, and emotional.
One of the things I love most about this series is how it can completely change its tone from one arc to another without ever losing its identity. One moment you're watching a fun and lighthearted adventure, and not long after, you're questioning humanity, morality, and the very nature of people. Somehow, it all works.
Nen also deserves a special mention. For me, it is easily one of the most interesting power systems in anime, especially because it isn't simply about who is stronger. Strategy, intelligence, and creativity often…

this is the shittest anime i ever seen, only this anime have is good animation and bad story line and nothing else, don't wast your time to watch this anime, i believe that mad hourse make always great animes but i m wrong, this anime messup that much of story line that you will going to kill you self that much, as i anime lover this is pure shit nothing else
Is the story unique? If it was predictable, did you enjoy it anyway because you like this genre/set-up?: no
Do you think the art style is fitting for the story?: no
Were the characters well-rounded? Did they have flaws and strengths, or were they unusually strong/smart/stupid?: Characters could be made good if the storyline is good, but it is not.
Did the characters react to situations and events in a realistic way?: Yes, but still t…

If you haven't watched Hunter x Hunter (2011) yet, I highly recommend giving it a chance.
At first, it may look like a typical shōnen anime about a young boy going on an adventure to become a Hunter. But as the story progresses, it becomes much more than that. The world-building is excellent, the characters are memorable, and the power system—Nen—is one of the most creative and well-developed in anime.
What I especially love is how unpredictable the story can be. It isn't afraid to challenge the usual shōnen formula. Characters don't always win because they're stronger, good people don't always get rewarded, and villains aren't simply evil for the sake of being evil.
The Chimera Ant arc is particularly impressive. It's darker, more philosophical, and emotionally complex than you might e…

they are a few fictions in media
that make me so emotional everytime i watch a specific scene or episode again.
hunter x hunter is one of those and even tho it is one of the most beloved animes in modern times
i still don't think it's appreciated enough on certain aspects.
like everyone will tell you that chimera ant is peak or that episode 131 is the best
but not everybody will tell you how much great groundwork and passion already at the start is spreading
the main cast with gon, killua, kurapika and leorio
is one of the most heartwarming casts i have ever seen.
their tragedy, backstory and how the dynamic betwenn the main four shifts between the arcs and till to the end
makes me so emotional.
this is without a doubt a obvious 10-masterpiece contender
that will probably never gets wea…

an incredible anime that gets the love it absolutely deserves. there may be some that say its overrated but dont believe them. hxh lives up to the hype, and that chimera ant arc was one of the best parts, the way the characters changed over the course of it, the way it beautifully ended. the only reason i didnt rate hxh a 10/10 is because chimera ant arc did drag a little too long, there were some scenes that i feel could have been sped up. overall an incredible experience and am definitely going to get into the manga next.

Honestly, this is garbage.
Watched it twice with a few years gap in between just to make sure.
I used to watch and like Dragon Ball/DBZ when I was a teenager, so I totally understand people who watched this when they were children/teenagers will feel an emotional connection to HxH. That, however, does not make this series good.
Bad/unappealing character design, extremely drawn-out action and plot, childish and one-dimensional characters whose actions make little to no sense, abilities that are supposed to be cool but end up looking silly (maybe with the exception of Netero's); all of it made this series really hard to enjoy.
If you like mindless shonens, and/or your prefrontal cortex hasn't fully developed yet, this might be the anime for you. Otherwise, don't bother.

I want to start this review by saying this: If you haven’t watched Hunter x Hunter yet: STOP READING THE REVIEWS ALREADY AND GO WATCH IT! Now for those of you who have already watched Hunter x Hunter and are only reading the reviews to feel validated for your love of the greatest anime of all time: this review is for you.
The Hunter Exams Arc
The Hunter Exams arc is the most under appreciated arc in Hunter x Hunter. It excellently sets the groundwork for what Hunter x Hunter is: A dark battle shounen. With emphasize on its incredible cast of characters, Incredible world building, creativity, and freeing sense of adventure. One thing I really appreciate about the anime (Particularly the 1999 version) is the great detail it went into when talk…

Sure is a masterpiece. What a show!
This won't be as large as my first review, but Jesus. It's spectacular. The portraits, deep understanding and children relations are beautiful and respectful. I work at a huge school in Brazil and I can recognize some behavior aspects. I usually said that this is one the best shows due to how kids are represented, after watching as an adult working with children I can guarantee that's still the case.
A lot of adult and kid relations, brotherhood and others is meaningful and wonderful to watch. I love those characters and I've cried while seeing some scenes. The only issue here is that Leorio didn't punch someone enough haha.
Recommended to everyone, i love these children and their development.

I watched this when I was like 14 or around that age. Way to many episodes for a human being to watch and can be a slog but there are some redeeming factors. The characters are kind of cookie cutter but its not that bad so. If you are young and have a lot of time on your hands I would recommend this one for you. If you are over the age of 15 and gainfully employed you probably have more important things to do. The art was ok, the animation is good at times mediocre at others. The story is typical shonen slop which is fine for what this anime is.

Hunter x Hunter is a great, interesting story in a dangerous, wild world filled with monsters, evil groups, treasures, bounties, and the ones who chase all of those: The hunters. Our protagonists go on a journey through all that the world has to offer in order to become hunters, all with their own arcs and motivations. It is a story that takes a few unexpected turns, from the odd powers or odd scenarios they find themselves in, to shifts in tone and big plot twists.
The animation and sound are fine, and for such a long story, it's surprising that it manages to remain interesting. There's lots of character development, going into their past, polishing their motivations, etc. I especially enjoyed the main protagonist Gon, seeing his child-like innocence remain as he sees death in the face…

this anime is so underrated and I still cant believe that some people haven't watched it yet. It is a 10/10 for me and it will always be on my top 3. The last episode is a really good conclusion for all the things that had happened in the anime. it made me cry so many times, it felt super sad when I finished anime tho nothing sad really happened in the last few episodes. The power system and the world building is great. I have to say all characters are very well written like welfin of course except for some individuals. Overall this anime is really great and I would def recommend this to all of my friends.

Such a fantastic show with one of my favorite seasons with 4, 5 and 6. The early seasons are also great. The story didn’t grab me at first but the first few episodes made me want to watch more and I greatly enjoyed it. The characters are well written with Gon in particular being a standout. I have heard about him being childish but he is a kid and they make mistakes and learn from them and I feel this show does a wonderful job of that. There are so many excellent character moments and fights that make me smile just a fantastic show highly recommend. The animation if great, along with the power system being good. Learning about it at first it seems simple but with more and more characters we see how it can be used different ways.

It is safe to say that Hunter X Hunter is one of the best shonen anime to have ever been produced. The 2011 reboot of the series was almost magical. Hunter X Hunter's core story is very compelling, with having great pacing alongside having a clean and incredibly well done animation that hits just the spot. One of Hunter X Hunter's biggest strengths lie in its characters, the characters are incredibly well written, with compelling goals and motivations. The power system is the best power system we have ever seen in shonen animanga, and is almost revolutionary (keeping in mind that Hunter X Hunter was made in the 1900s), with being incredibly in depth, fleshed out, well balanced, deeply interesting, and fair. The world building potential for this series is incredible too (unfortunately we ma…

It’s hard to know where to begin when talking about why Hunter X Hunter is so great, because of the fact that everything about the show is equally amazing. Whether it be the delightful cast of characters that we meet throughout, the extremely thorough power system that is Nen, or the expansive worldbuilding, there is no weak point within this series. Because of this, I’ve long struggled to express why exactly it is that I personally believe that HxH is, at this current point in time, the greatest piece of fiction ever written. For most series, you can usually point to specific elements of the story as being the reason why it is so great, but simply saying “everything is perfect” feels like cheating. However, I finally realized recently what it is that mak…

Hunter x Hunter (2011) is one of the rare anime that redefines the shōnen genre through its intelligence. What initially appears to be a simple “finding one’s father” story evolves into a multilayered journey enriched by deep character writing, powerful dialogue, and exceptional world-building. The series successfully blends survival, psychological tension, politics, and warfare, while masterfully shifting its tone from light to dark. The Yorknew and Chimera Ant arcs, in particular, offer thematic depth far beyond typical shōnen standards. Battles rely more on strategy than raw power, supported by Nen—a meticulously crafted power system. Beneath its seemingly childlike design lies a mature, bold, and unpredictable narrative. Despite its slow beginning, Hunter x Hunter rewards patient viewe…

I am a firm believer that this anime should be #1 on MAL, not that slow-paced Slice-of-Life fantasy slop everybody keeps raving about. Personally, I think Hunter x Hunter is undoubtedly the best Shonen anime of all time. 148 episodes and 6 delicious arcs worth of pure cocaine applied to your eyeballs. Other Shonen usually have 200+ episodes that meander between canon arcs and fillers. However, believe me when I say that all 146 episodes of this show are nothing but visually-stunning and well-written canon arcs. It only has two fillers (primarily two recap episodes). Everything else is consistent power-scaling goodness. For an anime made in 2011, Hunter x Hunter's production quality was way ahead of its time. The reason why Madhouse managed to deliver consistently good animation across 148…

TW SPOILER: Just finished this anime last night for the second time, and this is hands down one of thee best action-anime series I've ever watched hands down. The potential of this anime would have been even more peak if Togashi persisted in the series but things are pretty delayed so far due to his alleged "illness".
As for the anime, you basically watch our protagonists Gon and Killua develop their way through adolescence and see so much change towards the end of the series. Gon for example, didn't really change in terms of personality, he still remained the same stubborn and determined little boy we saw since the beginning but he still tried to find his belonging and identity of being a hunter while on the hunt for his father, Gon was willing to go through challenges and hardships just…

This is one of those anime that becomes a part of your life without you even noticing. I spent about five years with it, slowly watching, savoring every arc, and honestly I didn’t want to finish it. It was so good that I was genuinely afraid of reaching the end, because once it’s over, that’s it. No more new moments with these characters you’ve grown attached to. But that day finally came, and it was today.
And wow. I’m still on the edge of my seat. I have nothing but respect for the creators of this story, the world‑building, the characters, the emotional depth, the insane plot twists, everything is crafted with such care that it’s absolutely worth the journey.
This anime gave me so much joy. I laughed like crazy, I had moments where I was literally screaming at the screen, and yes… I c…
