Introduction

Megumin is a young and passionate wizard from the Crimson Demon Village, a remote community of mages with red eyes and a flair for the dramatic. She has devoted her life to mastering explosion magic, a powerful but impractical spell that leaves her drained of mana and unable to move for the rest of the day. Regardless, she refuses to learn any other skills. Along with her childhood friend and self-proclaimed rival, Yunyun, Megumin enrolls in the Red Prison: a prestigious academy for Crimson Demon magic users. There, she learns more about the secrets and history of her clan, as well as the threats and challenges they must face. As she polishes her power at the Red Prison with the help of her loyal familiar Chomusuke and her adorable little sister Komekko, Megumin aims to become the greatest explosion wizard of all time! After watching every Konosuba anime adaptation, I saved this one for last, and it was worth it, both as a farewell until season 4 and as a timekiller, of sorts. Being basically what konosuba has been all the way, there were still some things that I've liked in here that were looked over in the main series, such as the whole deal with the Crimson Demon Village, who turned out to be way cooler folks than I thought, also some more screen time for Megumin's sister, Komekko. Knowing where it'll all lead made all encounters look much more exciting to me, seeing how Megumin's life completely changed after meeting Kazuma, and it even ended up being a little tearjerking. Opening and Ending were very good, might I add. I find it to be a fitting & enjoyable prequel that'll either sate your yearning f…

This is a spinoff of Konosuba that shows Megumin’s backstory. I suppose it isn’t strictly necessary to have seen the main series in order to watch this spinoff. However, there’s a lot that you’ll be able to appreciate better if you have seen the main series. Especially in the final three episodes, where most of the humor centers on references to the main series. As such, I highly recommend watching the first two seasons and film of Konosuba before watching this. Thus, this review will be written for those who have. This anime follows Megumin from when she first decided to follow the path of explosions all the way up to her introducing herself to Kazuma and Aqua. The first half is focused on her life as a student in the Crimson Village. The film already established that the village is full…

THIS REVIEW IS WRITTEN ASSUMING YOU'VE ALREADY WATCHED AT LEAST SEASON 1 OF KONOSUBA!!! After 4 years of absolutely nothing, Konosuba returned with this little spin-off prequel starring Megumin, the "Crazy Explosion Girl". Most episodes follow the same structure as any episode of the main series, with some crazy thing happening that is resolved by the end of the episode, similarly to a sitcom. However, the exclusion of the rest of the main Konosuba cast hurts the execution of this structure to an extent. The show isn't bad, I highly recommend it if you're a Konosuba fan, but there are some issues that should be taken into account. The anime starts off with Megumin enrolling at the Crimson Demon Village's magic academy, the Red Prison. There, we're introduced to the starting cast of the s…

There's many reasons an anime can be good, the action, the morals, the comedy, and what made Konosuba special was the character dynamics. Those 4 goofballs playing off of each other is what makes Konosuba what it is. And that fact is made all the more clear when you strip 3 of them away and just leave one. Konobaku isn't bad. It's doesn't lack anything fundamental nor is anything out of place. What's wrong with it is that it's just. so. plain. There's nothing that makes it special. The comedy is just "chuuni tribe is chuuni" and the themes are just your average coming of age story. Konosuba does not thrive off its story, action, or worldbuiilding. It's good because the main 4 are hilarious together, but just annoying when separate, and this anime made it clear. if you want a Megumin docume…

The series has a slightly weaker start, but it gradually gains momentum and the second part of the series is a blast! Megumin and Yunyun managed to pull the story along perfectly even without the classic party and I'm really happy that, just like the original Konosuba, the series is half serious and half funny - it works surprisingly well. There are also great lines, nice plots and great EXPLOSIONS, so you never get bored. The opening of this anime once again enchanted me with a combination of brilliant animated sequences and excellent music. Overall, it's a bomb, I mean EXPLOSIONS!!! 🎇🎆🔥🎆🎇

A bad anime for a bad character. This anime had NOTHING going for it. The MC is still just as annoying and unlikeable as in the main series. The music was alright, and the animation was good BUT it still looks exactly the same as season 1 even though this is was released 7 years later. Overall it was simply bad. Absolutely boring and the plot was generic and uninteresting and wasn't enjoyable to watch at all. I will never understand why they made a spinoff for the worst character of the main party, 4/10. In my opinion it should've been a Darkness Spinoff. If you like megumin you MIGHT like this show, but if you're like me and completely despise her you will get NOTHING enjoyable out of this.

As a fan of the original series and the movie, Kurenai Densetsu, I was excited to dive deeper into Megumin's backstory. At first, I was skeptical - 12 episodes focused solely on one character? But trust me, it's worth it. We get to see Megumin's inspiration for explosion magic, her initial meetings with Aqua and Kazuma, and even her adorable childhood moments with Komekko and Chomusuke. What struck me most was Megumin's complexity. She's shy, introverted, yet unafraid to speak her mind. Her rivalry-turned-friendship with Yunyun is genuine and heartwarming. Yunyun, by the way, is the perfect secondary character - useful, intelligent, and confident. One scene that had me dying laughing was Megumin's jealousy over Yunyun's, ahem, bust size. Classic KonoSuba humor! However, I'll admit it g…

Story (6) : The story of the anime is a Megumin before meeting her party. The introduction is more like a comedy like a chit chat dialogue. But there is a story that suddenly rises like fighting the Devil. The story is more about Megumin's journey to become the strongest adventurer, the execution is quite interesting but to bring enjoyment is still lacking. There is only one story that is very funny and enjoyable. Overall its fine Characters (7) : Here it is more prominent to Megumin and Yunyun, well they are a duo who can't get along and that's what makes this story still have comedy. But what I like is Zesta and that makes the episodes with Zesta enjoyable. For the villains, they are ordinary but I appreciate why they always appear in several episodes Visual (9) : The visuals here a…

As much as I wanted this to be amazing, since I love Konosuba and especially love Megumin, I can say it is not good. I watched it, it wasn't anything really bad but I don't really care that I've seen it. It mostly consists of things we already see in the first season and the movie but just adds extra details to it so they may be just a bit more enjoyable. Besides that, I was usually bored with a plot that has no real conflict or stakes and I wasn't interested either. It was not written very well, where it feels more like a "go here and now go here, now here" kind of progression. This is a comedy, I laughed out loud twice. They tried, I did not enjoy it. Lazily put together for something both unnecessary and thoughtless (yes I've read Crimson Fate).

This show has all the right ingredients but it falls a bit short of the wonderful mix that is Konosuba! Animation is great, music is in line with the rest of the series and plot is fun and whimsical. That said, the lack of Konosuba's normal cast in this series really highlighted how entertaining the interactions between the main series four characters is. Yunyun takes over Kazuma's role as the straight man in the comedy, while Megumin remains her chaotic self. Sadly lack of Aqua and Darkness in the jokes and comedic setups is felt. A rotating cast of supporting characters take up some of the roles left by Aqua, Darkness and even Kazuma, but it isn't the same. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed all of the new characters introduced as well as the expanded backstory of others we see in the ma…

Ehh... Let me preface this by saying I accidentally started with this, completed it, then realized it wasn't the main series and I'm currently on the 2nd season of the main series. To summarize it - It tired me. Actually tired me so much writing this review without any kind of filler is really hard. It's not that it was boring, just that the humour feels forced, the jokes don't land as well as in the main series and they are quite repetetive. Some of the characters are somewhat interesting, others are so 1 dimensional you could cut atoms with them. If you're desperate for more material, it is afterall 12 more episodes of megumin centered story. Otherwise, the main series is just better, you'll be somewhat dissapointed by this. It's not bad. It's just not great either. Still, giving it a 7…

Well... The prequel to Konosuba. I went in with high hopes but got dissappointed slightly (sadly) (note: I watched it with the German dub) Story/Plot: First of... yes, we are talking about Konosuba, a comedy anime with a very thin plot, but even in Konosuba terms.... this anime barely has a story. You have 3 Major points in the story which are pretty monotone, all taking place in places known from the 2 Konosuba Seasons and the Movie, so nothing new here. Although the anime manages to build the characters Megumin and Yun-Yun a little more, which is something i like to see. Humour: This is the issue with the anime, the prequel to Konosuba doesnt have enough humorous moments, really. You have a few scenes where you can notice Konosubas humour but it is pretty much absent from the anime,…

There's one of two reasons to watch this: you're a fan of Konosuba or you're a fan of Megumin in specific. Or both, that's definitely likely. And while this spinoff does deliver on both of those aspects, leading to a decently entertaining watch, it misses on both things in spite of that, or maybe a better way of phrasing it is that it doesn't hit as well as it should. But first off, the good points. Soundtrack still has that usual Konosuba feel (as far as I can tell it's all the same anyway) of feeling whimsical and fun but serious when it needs to be. So things like the explosion OST still sounds great. On that note, animation hasn't gotten any worse despite the (second) different studio, as the explosions at the very least still look beautiful. And given what the show is and what it's…

Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Bakuen wo! deviates from the traditional Konosuba formula by focusing exclusively on the backstory of Megumin and Yunyun. While initially engaging with entertaining interactions between the two characters, the series begins to lose momentum, recycling the same jokes without reaching the comedic heights of its predecessors. Although there are occasional highlights, particularly involving Megumin's sister, Komekko, the show struggles to sustain interest and content across its 12-episode run. Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Bakuen wo! presents itself as an okay addition to the series, offering some enjoyment for dedicated fans with its abundant Easter eggs, but ultimately falls short of broader appeal with its lack of engaging/fresh content.

Now I love Megumin. She is hysterical and probably my favorite character in Konosuba. But she is not able to carry her own show. This is honestly only a show that can be truly enjoyed if you’ve read ahead in the light novels and get where this is going and all the references that the movie left out. I watched this with my brother and had to explain most of the shit going on. That’s a huge letdown. And while Megumin as a character is great, she only really works with the people she plays off of. She plays well off of Yunyun, but that dynamic isn’t enough to hold up a whole show. The other characters aren’t that strong either. I hate how this show treats pedophilia as a joke and it’s kinda weird. I mean don’t get me wrong, it is still a very funny show. But the jokes were told better before…

The worst entry in the Konosuba franchise besides the specials. The biggest issue with this prequel to the main story is the lack of chemistry with Megumin and everyone else. She doesn't have Kazuma to keep her in check so her ego goes wild without being held accountable. What makes the main line story work is how all the characters are self centered stooges but their shittyness cancels each other out as they end up tripping over each other as they fail upwards. This show has none of that. Honestly Megumin was best girl from the main series but here she just comes across as mean most of the time as she gets none of the karmic retribution the main story loves to deliver in droves. Its not a bad anime but based on the peaks this franchise has reached, this is one of its valleys. If you lik…

Just Megumin's backstory, along with enhanced worldbuilding and foreshadowing of the main show. It really acts as a prequel and references A LOT (a lot) to events that will happen later, so if you liked Konosuba, expect to be *Leo pointing meme* at every other scene. Overall it's much more clever than humourous, whilst also being a very feel-good show with great worldbuilding. It's a definite watch if you're in for its clever hints and nods, as the show takes us to all three settings we've seen with the two seasons and subsequent movie. Oh and have I mentioned the lovely worldbuilding?

This show's tagline should be: 'do you remember the explosion girl from Konosuba? (of course you do, you perverts) well, here's more!'. With one of the most explosive intros in anime history, Megumin makes her triumphant return to the small screen... or not? Animation: 7 Standard grade from Konosuba and it's consistent all the way. Story: 7.5 This show starts low and ends high, fellas. We got a few major arcs. The first arc is a school arc which quite honestly blows. Second mini-arc is the after-school special and then we get Arcanletia and the real fun begins. After that one we get Axel which is the best arc in the show hands down. A real throwback to ye olden days of 2016. Style: 6 Konosuba never was a show-off anime in terms of style. It's not generic but it's not a looker either.…

The megumin spinoff is rated lower than the main konosuba series mostly because the "jokes are not as good". But that is the point, megumin became the megumin we knew because of kazuma and the gang. This spinoff tells the tale of megumin before she became part of the party. As a backstory, it serves its purpose of expanding the world and elaborating on the reasons why megumin became obsessed with explosion magic. In comparison to the main story, this spinoff relatively is more drama. While there are jokes here and there, for me the story really struck more in telling the struggles of sticking to your dream. Aside from that, character development seems to have focused more on yunyun rather than megumin. It's going to be hard to see yunyun remain a side character after watching the series.…

Wow, it's been a long time since I've written an anime review. It's not common for me, because I generally don't really have much to say. This one is so, so sad, though. Normally, the more you enjoy a franchise, the more you enjoy the spin-offs, even if they are sub-par. I think this is a special case, though. I'll keep this short. This is an extremely boring anime; which is an insane thing to say about Konosuba. What I expect from this series is fast-pace high-energy over-the-top meta humor and voice acting. Konosuba races through the plot and presents us with lovably flawed characters and banks on their hilarious chemistry. This spin off does nothing that makes Konosuba great. It is a slow-paced slog through a boring magical school setting lead by a character who is incomplete without he…
