Made in Abyss: Retsujitsu no Ougonkyou

Made in Abyss: Retsujitsu no Ougonkyou

Introduction

After surviving the brutal challenges of Idofront, Riko now possesses a White Whistle, allowing her to descend into the Abyss's sixth layer—The Capital of the Unreturned. Alongside Reg and Nanachi, Riko begins to explore the uncharted domain, where the ruins of the promised Golden City are located. As the trio starts to adapt to the harsh environment, they soon encounter dangerous creatures and treacherous landscapes. Their expedition leads them to a village inhabited by strange beings known as "hollows." Despite the creeping sense of unease that welcomes them, the three venture onward to uncover the mysteries of the settlement and long-lost legacies of the forgotten adventurers who once descended into the horrors of the unexplored Abyss. Is it a good approach when everything bends for the sake of the story? This is what happened to made in abyss starting with the movie. It doesn't feel like an organic adventure anymore, it's more of a shonen action show albeit more dark and gruesome. More action is not a good substitute for character development and the story should not progress without it. A mature story is the one that shapes itself around the characters, not the other way around. First season, to me, was a 10/10 show, when I finished watching it I was fully satisfied and had no questions left. Watching a movie and then this, I am left with more questions than answers. While every other aspect of this show is easily 10/10, I'd give its story a weak 6/10. It's still a very good show though, I hope that whatever comes next…

Why can't this show just be normal for fucks sake. This season drastically slows down compared to the story so far, finally settling in and making use of the worldbuilding to create the show's best arc so far. Tsukushi is definitely a genius when it comes to writing stories and making use of everything, but he fucking sucks at writing an actual main character and keeping his fetishes under check. Cons: Riko might be one of the worst main characters to ever exist. They have finally made it to the sixth layer, an area known to be the last dive for cave raiders, and yet Riko has received ZERO character development. You would think that a show which explores so many varying dark themes would have a main character which reflects that. Riko plays out like your stereotypical shounen MC: naive…

Made in Abyss is an anime that, throughout its first season and first movie, reached some serious high points. All the strengths of the series are easy to discern: strong characters, gorgeous art-work, a compelling setting and themes of the human experience and the overriding pursuit of knowledge. Nonetheless, my assessment of Made in Abyss from the first season and movie was that it was excellent but flawed. Bondrewd was a menacing but often one-note villain whose impact outweighed his actual nuance. The first season, while compelling, still hadn't quite got into its stride and took awhile to introduce its characters and world. Then the Golden City arc comes along. It was the first time Made in Abyss became a show that I could truly describe as unmissable. Gorgeous animation and music…

This season was incredibly boring. The journey of exploring the depths and searching for Riko's mother completely stalled, replaced by twelve episodes focused on an annoying, ugly girl, ugly alien-like creatures (they look similar to the aliens in Star Wars), and backstories for characters I simply couldn’t bring myself to care about. There were also far too many disgusting scenes (pooping, vomiting, saliva everywhere, etc.), along with excessive suffering used for shock value because of something that supposedly happened many years ago. On top of that, we had pointless scenes about value systems, trading, and other things that felt like filler. Even the fights weren’t good like they were in Season 1. They felt mindless and lacked any real tension or emotional weight. This entire arc se…

I don't understand how anyone can still support, not to mention glaze, this pedophile, guro, loli torture-porn, that somehow made it to mainstream anime and not stayed "in the abyss" of niche hentai manga, buried in the backwaters of the internet for the mentally deranged gooners. The first season was intriguing, the world-building, feelings of discovery, mystery and the fantasy aspect successfully set the bait, for me too. All of that made it easy to overlook the (at first more tame) sexual innuendos involving LITERAL CHILDREN, but the movies increasingly upped the deranged nasty shit that lingers in the sick perverts mind who calls himself the author. After, we arrive to Golden city arc, which made the direction pretty clear. I never had such a strong reaction of disgust and rejection of…

Here's my quick and dirty review of this season. 9.9/10. Art, sound design, world building, you name it. This season is quite literally perfect in every way. There is nothing out there that exists like Made in Abyss, for better or worse. This season is no different. The way the certain society that appears in this season works, the reason they exist, and how they function as a whole, I can safely say I honestly do not thing anyone else has done anything even remotely like it before. It truly is super fascinating on how that all functions, it really is sosu. The .1 gets deducted because although the anime tones down the writers barely disguised fetish, there still are several scenes in this season that absolutely do not need to be in this show. They are not plot relevant, they have lite…

This season demonstrates how even if an anime starts with an excellent idea, and good execution, the writer needs to have a concise journey in mind, morals to display, relationships to polish, or anything beyond just a basic end goal. The pacing was atrocious and the odd bizarrely uncoordinated story was really agonizing to watch, and I doubt I'll care to watch the next season. Something that bothers me is how there's constant references to semi pedophilic themes, even in the first season, and while easy to overlook at first, you can clearly feel the direction the author wants to take, always playing with and teasing sexual ideas in relation to the children involved (Well! Acshually! One is a humanoid hollow rabbit and the other a robot, only one child is being sexualized, that's good...…

For me, this season of Made in Abyss is the strongest yet. Where the first season introduced us to the wonder and horror of the Abyss, Golden City takes those foundations and pushes them to their absolute extreme. It’s equal parts beautiful and horrifying ,the kind of storytelling that either makes you sick to your stomach or say "Damn this shi crazy" (in a good way) A lot of the criticism I’ve seen centers on the season being “too disturbing” or “falling off” compared to the first. Personally, I think that misses the point. Made in Abyss has always carried a dark undercurrent, and this season simply stops holding back. Yes, it’s disturbing, yes, it’s tragic, and yes, it can be hard to watch but that’s exactly what makes it so powerful. The adaptation stays close to the manga, even tonin…

After watching this and season 1, I really wanted to like this anime. The fantasy art, the character designs, their bonds as they descended further into the abyss to uncover the mystery of their past, I could stomach a scene or two before; However, I can't sit here n act like this isn't straight up fanservice of loli torture porn when it's so obviously portrayed. I hear the manga is even more graphic. It's uncomfortably distasteful and to any good common-sensed person out there, should ruin the anime altogether. Like I just dc what happens, Reg probably finds his people, Riko finds her mom, not willing to sit thru the weird shit to find out anymore. So with this, I'm dropping it, but I do wanna say.. I watch a LOT of fucked up shit and never gave much care into thinking I'm enabling the co…

Man, usually I would say watch it for yourself... but not this time. I strongly advocate you do not watch Made in Abyss past season 1. They blew through most of the abyss in season 1 anyways. The 3rd movie was really cool and a great place to stop. I understand why anime/manga sometimes illustrate a part of realism. Nature is not always beautiful. But seeing a 12 year old girl take a dump on a toilet then get up and complain about the tentacles that come out of it is WAY past the pale. I am genuinely comfortable with this kind of stuff in an artistic sense, such as jojo stardust crusaders having questionable scenes in the same vein, but this was totally unnecessary in execution. I suppose it adds to the world building and lore, but they should have used a different character. I have neve…

best and worst season until now at the same time. how? don't ask me, you should watch it yourself. if I had put it in words however: its really different. the thematics really shifted. not always in a good way. the iconic dark atmosphere and story line of this show is (of course) there in the third season, but to me fails compared to what came before. it is still sad no doubt about it, well written too. It's just that it's sad only to BE sad. if that makes any sense. it didn't hit nearly as hard as season 2 or especially season 1. maybe that's just me getting used to it. there's also way more unnecessary dialogue I feel. prepare for that if you're not a fan of empty speech. ending is predictable and even kinda cliché. ive been negative, but to be fair: this show is amazing not only doe…

Made in Abyss: Retsujitsu no Ougonkyou is a masterpiece that elevates the anime experience to new heights, reaffirming Kinema Citrus’s unique talent for blending stunning visuals, profound storytelling, and an unsettling atmosphere. This second season dives even deeper into the haunting and captivating depths of the Abyss, introducing the sixth layer, the "Golden City," a place as breathtaking as it is deadly. The plot follows Riko, Reg, and their new companion Nanachi as they face increasingly complex challenges, highlighting the cost of exploration and survival. The animation is nothing short of breathtaking: the surreal landscapes of the Abyss are rendered with meticulous attention to detail, alternating between vibrant colors and dark tones that amplify the sense of wonder and dread. I loved the first season and I definitely liked this one as well, however, I think the writing took a turn for the worse. I think they did a good job presenting the setting, I like the design of the village, I love the whole concept of value and I love the way we learn about it, I liked Faputa as a character, I like Nanachi's development, I like Reg's as well even though I wish they explored it more and the few villagers we got to met are okay, the backstory of the village is very impactful and well made, the premise is great and I think they executed it well enough. Now the things that bothered me the most are: First, Riko's character: I understand why they wanted to make her positive, at least I think so, they tried to put her in contrast of the atrocities of the abyss, a reminder that…

I found the first season quite boring, nothing impressive, this anime has a very strange story to the point of being complex and absurd, personally I am not very interested in that but let's say that its story is quite bad. The impressive thing about this anime in its second season is its settings and characters, a completely immersive anime with great quality and fun to watch, the way you immerse yourself in that world is impressive. And what I liked the most, well, it had cute characters and it made me feel some chills but I didn't find it that could bring out a feeling in me. The story doesn't feel as immersive as the settings and the characters. simply a very immersive and fun anime to watch, very well done, in the animation and interpretation, the environment and the world itself.

It's really hard for me to put in words how good of a show Made in Abyss, but I'll try my best. Made in Abyss is, simply put, one of the most breathtaking, heart wrenching, and powerful story I've ever watched. Made in Abyss consists of some of the darkest and horrifying storytelling in the media, but in such a twisted and despair, yet beautiful way. It never feels like there is "true evil", rather a course of nature, part of life, that fills you with emptiness but also a glimmer of hope. The characters in this show is incredible in the own right, each character piecing together some of the most gruel some tales, whether it's the old crew of Reg, Liko, and Nanachi, or the new characters Vueko, Faputa, Irumyuui...Every character seemingly holding the story together that shows the true na…

Absolute banger, storytelling + art + music + characters make it top 3 animes i've ever watched. Its 4 am and im too tired to write a full review but i just want to say that those people who say that this season ruined the show are totally delusional. While everyone's opinion is valid i dont get how can you see this masterpiece which took everything good from the first season and 3rd movie and added to it the most well written anime story and characters that i've seen in a long while and still dislike it goes beyond me. Cant wait for the next season / movie and even if the quality will be half than this im sure i will love it.

Holy cow did this anime took a turn for the worse! The nice premise and mystery from season 1 turned into a weird and gore fest, focusing on something like a New World Conquistador story gone wrong. Without going into spoiler details, I will say that in season 2 we almost don't get any new information about the Abyss itself, the mystery forces at action there, the origin of the whole thing, or what's at the bottom. Instead, we're thrown into a very bizarre horror story/social experiment/curse setting and stranded there for the most parts of the show. Death, sacrifice, trauma, morals, friendship and other deep subjects are explored but from a very twisted point of view (which I normally like), and it's repetitive and mind numbing. But to be honest, the main problem is that this season fee…

Drop this anime after 1st season. You're welcome. Here's a few reasons why the second season is not worth your time (neither is this review) 1) Characters It was frustrating how little agency the main cast had. You could pretty much leave them out and the story would play out about the same. But wait, there is a line up of brand new characters, surely these guys have awesome story to te-- nope, they are awful. If you're at the last episode of the season and can't even remember the name of the character this thing is about, yeah, that's not good, that means you just don't care. 2) The plot Alright, so the plot has layers and that's good. Maybe too many layers. Some layers are downright brilliant but most of them are weird, illogical, don't make sense, or just feel like a filler. Why does…

I didn't like this season after watching it twice. What made Made in Abyss special is that it invested so much in it's world building. The first season, and even the movies had this sense of adventure and danger that made you glued to every episode. However, this season invests so much time into characters that are uninteresting. I love character development, but that's not the primary appeal of this show. I didn't care about Faputa or Vueko. I didn't care about the villagers. Other than Riko, Reg & Nanachi, the characters this season weren't interesting. I appreciate that this season explores what it means to be human. The villagers have lost their physical humanity, yet they've maintained their psychological humanity. The villagers use their creature-like bodies in ways to help Faputa i…

Story (6) : In my opinion, the story in season 2 of this anime was fine. But there are things that I like and there are things that make this season have less enjoyment compared to season 1. What I like is that there are adventurous histories of why this place happened and there is a backstory that brings emotion to the present. What I don't enjoy is that I feel Made in Abyss season 2 is out of the realm of what the story should be. Where in season 1, they really had an adventure exploring every layer of the abyss and fighting all the abyss creatures. In this season, they focus on a place there and continue until the end of this season. I understand that there is a connection or connection to the story, but in my opinion it's still not enough. But there are good parts too, but I hope it c…
