gundam the witch from mercury. cool name, you'd expect big things from a gundam series but instead we get one of the shortest series ever. the story has potential but it's wasted hanging around a school worrying about romantic relationships instead of actual fights and adventure. the thing is though for a show about gundam there are very few gundams in it. three of the four mobile suits used in the finale barely have any screen time and the villians that are supposed to play a big role and add to the suspense are easily put down and taken care of without actually contributing to the main story this is honestly like a bad version of gundam iron blooded orphans, probably never gonna give this show a second watch if your trying out the gundam franchise for the first time i reccommend a differ…

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury Review: A Missed Opportunity for Classic Gundam Depth
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury promised a fresh take on the storied Gundam franchise, introducing a female protagonist, Suletta Mercury, and a new setting in the Ad Stella timeline. While the series delivers stunning mecha battles and visual spectacle, it falters in capturing the political and moral complexity that defines classic Gundam narratives, prioritizing flashy action over the franchise’s hallmark themes of war and politics.
A Departure from Gundam’s Core Themes
The Gundam franchise has long been celebrated for its nuanced exploration of war’s consequences, political machinations, and the human cost of conflict. Series like Mobile Suit Gundam (1979), Zeta Gundam, and Wing…

Yes, I know I'm late, but here we go: my opinion on The Witch from Mercury.
I'm one of those people who never watched Gundam, I only gave this one a chance because they promised "yuri" — which wasn’t delivered in the first season and was completely thrown away in the second. It was a monumental disappointment. I've never felt so cheated and betrayed (well, that's a lie, there are two other anime that managed to be even worse in that regard).
The worst part is that they created a whole marketing campaign around Suletta and Miorine's relationship, made it seem like it would be something big, but in practice, they delivered scraps, rushed through everything, treated their relationship like an unimportant bonus, and threw all the emotional potential of the story down the drain to focus on gene…

The show is a lot of fun, and overall I enjoyed my time with it, but the writing has issues. The pacing is just downright bad and every plot line suffers for it. The show has so many plot lines crammed into it, and not only does it not have enough time to properly go through and resolve them all, it doesn't use the time it does have efficiently. It also keeps ramming new discoveries and new issues all the way down to the last episode.
The political intrigue balloons in scope and starts meandering. A bit over halfway through Season 2, so many things start happening at once it would already be hard to follow if the writing held up to begin with. A lot of WfM's plot developments don't have a lot of logic behind them, but Season 2 has the worst of it - things just start happening with no exp…

Season 2 is a harder pill to swallow as a fellow country bumpkin gifted kid who was always inches away from being thrown in the trash the moment I'm too much of a problem. "Our Empty Selves" is a painful watch for anyone who's had terrible things done to them "for their own good."
But it's what makes Witch from Mercury a worthy successor to Revolutionary Girl Utena despite lacking the latter's artistic flair. I know people who finished Utena's playhouse of metaphor who felt the series was an inspiration, but the ending stops before dealing with the "real world."
Despite souped-up sci-fi and a bunch of rich kids, Mercury doesn't shy away from recognizing there is a real societal poison that leaves no person untouched, and the characters must recognize what the poison has done to them, ho…

I was actually surprised with how disappointed I was with this particular anime. Gundam is a series that is one of my al-time favorites, even though I am a recent fan. I have been watching just about everything Gundam related I could, so naturally, this one was on the list. I enjoyed the first season, but that's because I enjoy Gundam in general, and I buckled myself in for the ride of season 2. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy that ride. I don't think this anime is bad, but it totally forgets to try to be good.
The plot of this anime went completely over my head. Any time something major happens, I don't feel anything. Often, I don't know who the bad guys or good guys are. I experienced the same thing in Iron-Blooded Orphans, but eventually, you know who you want to win, and you are 100% i…

[Regress of writing quality compared to the Season 1 where a lot of the plot is gone, ignored, or jumped across, and is all the worse because of the complexity it set in the first place. Regardless, still very much a decent watch that finishes the story nicely and beautifully. 7/10]
It is disappointing that it can not continue its ambition in writing which seems as if it was promised as we've seen in Season 1, where all the characters were full of personalities, motivations, inspirations, souls; yet in Season 2 a lot of characters lost their character, a lot of actions were without clear aspirations, and a lot of the plot felt forced or rushed. There were also a lot of unnecessary superficial scenes, as if they're there just to give some random action or friendship touch to the story, wit…

Mobile Suit Gundam - The Witch from Mercury Season 2 elevates the exhilarating narrative and top-tier animation that fans cherished in Season 1. Maintaining its commitment to stunning visuals, the series presents a breathtaking cosmic ballet that captures the essence of the Gundam universe. The animation quality remains consistently high, with intricately detailed mobile suits and captivating space battles that keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
What sets Season 2 apart is its intensified focus on action. Building upon the foundation laid in the first season, the battles are more dynamic, intense, and visually spectacular. The mecha enthusiasts will undoubtedly find themselves in awe of the meticulously choreographed combat sequences, showcasing the technological prowess and artisti…

There is a lot to like about the Witch from Mercury. It can satisfy the itch for a high budget mecha series with fluid animation, epic battles and a beautiful soundtrack. There are some interesting unorthodox things too. Take the main character, for example. Contrary to many classic Gundam series, she is a timid, high-school girl called Suletta. There is someone hidden in the supporting cast who fits the profile of a generic Gundam pilot MC (can you guess who it is?) yet it is Suletta who has the leading role. Not only that, she is paired up to be the "groom" of another girl called Meorine. Has Sunrise gone woke? Whatever it is, I liked it. It felt fresh, modern and intriguing.
There is also a lot of things that unfortunately will disappoint you about this anime. The plot is a complicated…

"Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury is unfair, cruel, relentless, and overwhelming. It deviates from clichés, and I noticed traps set to make you anticipate an easy way out, only to deliver a harder path that surpasses your expectations, becoming even more profound. The character development work is unparalleled, with around 20-40 characters in the circle, and ALL of them are incredibly well-crafted. As shown in a particular episode, they are so skilled at it that in a 5-minute scene, they make you care about a supporting character who hadn't even been named until then. The dedication to developing the anime's CLOSED ecosystem is unbelievable. An entire galaxy, a multitude of organizations, everything is meticulously crafted, and most importantly, everything has its place in this e…

Ichiro Okouchi does it again with a compelling masterpiece that appeals to younger generations while still fulfilling longtime Gundam fans' desires.
With each episode, the plot deviated further and further from my predictions and expectations of typical cliche anime tropes. Instead, every episode presented something new and exciting, bold and unique, different from the norms of your typical anime.
Witch from Mercury has stunning animation and visuals, with such memorable characters and amazing mech designs. I guarantee you won't be bored.
(The pacing is rushed at the end, but blame that on Sunrise studio and Bandai for not giving Ichiro Okouchi enough episodes to work with.)

Season 2 had promise but was just a rushed mess. They overloaded with so many fights with little in between time, and it didn't explain what was happening. It is almost impossible to feel anything due to how they had to wrap it up and fix season 1's slow pacing. Aside from the main fight, most of them were pretty forgettable, only one maybe daeriblade vs mihaelis.. This is largely because you didn't have a central suit, and factions weren't easily defined. They crammed so many suits, you have to literally pause to find which is which. This show had the most suits pushed into the small amount of cours ever. Many characters as a result struggle to have purpose especially Miorine who seemed to have done nothing all season. Suletta largely did not feel she went through hardship. Guel was the o…

I went into this season already loving the 1st season. Sure, some of the characters could be annoying but were very relatable, but my biggest issue was the story was moving rather slowly. That all changed this season and the plot just rushes ahead, unfortunately a lot of the characters seem to have been put on the back burner and felt like there was a very uneven balance of story and characters not really getting much time making it feel even more rushed. By the end, I felt like I missed a third of the story was missing as so much is rushed the last three episodes and you're just expected to just go along with it.
I love the art, the animation, the characters and even the story as rushed as it was. I just wish we had a bit more time to fully flesh out of the major plot holes and characte…

Honestly i've never really liked mecha genre. I think that this perspective of mine set-off mainly because of Darling in the FranXX which made me hate it.
Truthfully, this show might just have changed that perspective of mine...
• It's not only the story/mistery of Witch from Mercury which is sooooo interesting but also the dynamic between the characters, Suletta and Miorine would be the perfect example because they compliment each other so beautifully. + As a wise man once said: "little bit of gay girls in-it never hurt anyone... 🥴"
• Suletta quickly grew into one of my favorite characters, she's just such adorable, bubbly and fun personality which always made me smile. Needless to say now when i'm parting ways with this show i'll definitely miss this little country bumpkin. 🧡😭 Sulett…

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury Season 2 is the continuation of our complicated "romantic" tale between Suletta and Miorine. I put romantic in quotation marks because this series isn't really about our two protagonists. It's not really about the mechs either. Or the science fiction. Or drama, even. It's got some good elements, but it feels like doesn't really have an identity at times. I'll assume you've seen season 1 for the purposes of this review.
Story: We last left Miorine who was desperately trying to save her father after the colony came under massive attack. In comes Suletta to the rescue and that's where we somehow left season 1. My thoughts were "oh my God, what is going on". Skip to the beginning of the series, and it starts off... months after the attack? Back at th…

As somebody who has never watched Gundam before I thought it was a cute kid's show about robots, now I have PTSD and I'm scared of mega mart. Definitely a great watch however as all the characters have a lot of thought put into them and none of them feel empty. The music was also very good nothing life-changing but it's definitely not a disappointment. Gundam designs are great I love the look of the more slimmed-down Gundam style compared to the OG Gundam style.
The prologue starts off really good with an interesting and engrossing story concept that seems like it's going to be very deep and engaging. Unfortunately it ends up being very rushed in part two so the story gets a bit fractured and they end up either doing lots of stuff off screen, it's left as implied or they just leave it out…

For me I out this Gundam on no 3 from one's I've watched,
1st is SEED, it's biased as it's my first gundam of which I watched when I was a kid, but that series is just full of memorable moments man, and all the fantastic music, it also have good pacing and lots of rest moments to connect with the characters more, (even tho most lack depth). That's I guess the one thing I missed of modern anime, where they aren't willing to go the long haul like 50 episodes Gundam did...
2nd is IBO, I feel this series is similar to WfM but just more grounded, have better cast and more willing to do anything for the sake of the plot.
3rd Witch from Mercury, 1st season is just weak sauce for me, ending of part 1 is just too much of a random cliffhanger and IMO, I don't connect with any of the characters, s…

Oh yes they played season 1 opening at the end. That OP was so good.
Season 1 was an okay show that opened me to the complicated political world of this Gundam universe. I don’t watch a lot of Gundam, but whenever I hear of Gundam I think of mecha fights and not politics. Season 2 pushed this politics even more, and I have to admit I wasn’t able to keep up with all the details.
However, at its core, the story of this Gundam universe was still amazing. The many sides that took place in fighting for or against Gundam kept the story interesting and unpredictable. I wasn’t sure if the show was going for a tragedy or happy ending.
There’s a lot of exploration to Suletta and Miorine. They both had great ordeals and conflicts that greatly tested their resolves. Suletta’s relationship with he…

I’ve been a long time fan of the mecha genre, but it took me a long time to get into the Gundam series. But I’m very glad that I have, I’ve been having a lot of fun with it. WFM is the 4th Gundam series I’ve completed behind the original series, G Gundam, and Gundam Seed, but it’s my favorite of the four and I think a lot of that comes down to the central relationships at play. Not just the relationship between Suletta and Miorine but also between Suletta and her mother as well. It roots all the corporate intrigue in something tangible and provides a solid backing for the world and the characters who inhabit it.
The animation and music are both gorgeous. I especially like Red Birthmark, the second cours ED. The production values are fantastic throughout. But where the series really shines…

I absolutely hated the first season but I thought I'd give Season 2 a try to see if there's an improvement and it will make WfM overall worth the watch. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.
Season 2 left much to be desired and failed to fix the mistakes of the first season. From underdeveloped characters to a lackluster plot, this installment fell flat and "Whatever" ride again.
One of the most glaring issues with Season 2 was the lack of character development. It seemed as though the majority of the characters were merely placeholders, barely contributing to the overall plot. Many of the supporting characters lacked depth, and their actions felt arbitrary and inconsequential.
Despite the premises made in the first season, the duels, marriage, and even Elan's story felt utterly inconsequ…
