No Game No Life: Zero

No Game No Life: Zero

Introduction

In ancient Disboard, Riku is an angry, young warrior intent on saving humanity from the warring Exceed, the 16 sentient species, fighting to establish the One True God among the Old Deus. In a lawless land, humanity's lack of magic and weak bodies have made them easy targets for the other Exceed, leaving the humans on the brink of extinction. One day, however, hope returns to humanity when Riku finds a powerful female Ex-Machina, whom he names Schwi, in an abandoned elf city. Exiled from her Cluster because of her research into human emotions, Schwi is convinced that humanity has only survived due to the power of these feelings and is determined to understand the human heart. Forming an unlikely partnership in the midst of the overwhelming chaos, Riku and Schwi must now find the answers to their individual shortcomings in each other, and discover for themselves what it truly means to be human as they fight for their lives together against all odds. Each with a powerful new ally in tow, it is now up to them to prevent the extinction of the human race and establish peace throughout Disboard. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Not even a hundred reviews can properly judge this anime. I watched the 12 eps anime but this movie hits hard unlike any other animes out there. Its actually half prequel and half sequel because its the background plot of the original timeline of how it was actually founded. However the main part of this movie happens in the original timeline. Also if you watch this movie after 12 eps anime (it's the best watch order) you will constantly get goosebumps far more than any movies you saw out there. All elements are beyond peak but the visuals are bit oversaturated that make some watchers a bit uneasy. Simply put, you are gonna regret if you don't watch this peak. Some animes are just too awesome that watching them not at least once is a complete crime (I am not talking about popular animes…

A surprising film, and I dare say, much deeper than one might expect at first glance. No Game No Life: Zero is not just a complement to the main series; it functions almost as an independent work, with its own identity. While the original anime heavily relies on strategy, humor, and mind games, here the tone is completely different: darker, more tragic, and much more emotional. For much of the film, it's easy to even forget that we're in the same universe as No Game No Life, and this, far from being a flaw, is one of the work's greatest qualities. The story takes place long before the events starring Sora and Shiro, in an era where the world was not governed by games, but by a brutal war between races. In this chaotic scenario, we follow humanity's struggle for survival, completely infer…

I've read numerous negative reviews discussing the characters, the narrative, and the long wait for this prequel. While many focus on the fan service or the movie's placement in the timeline, my reason for assigning the lowest possible score is different and directly related to the anime's core identity. No Game No Life is an anime about GAMES, and when you feature chess—a globally recognized game of pure strategy—as a pivotal event, I expect a degree of realism. The chess match presented is, to put it mildly, an absolute disaster. The position reached on the board is not only highly unrealistic for two players of high caliber (one being the God of Games), but it also contains multiple glaring errors: 1. Amateur Play: The position itself is so flawed that it could only be reached by comp…

I enjoyed returning to the world of games, even before it started being about games. The first big plus in my opinion is that the film can work great, both for someone who hasn't seen the series and for a fan of No Game, No Life, who will get a number of "bonuses". It contains a major spoiler: The relationship between two characters is built here, which you can easily find your way to and fall in love with, only to have it all crushed in the end and tear you apart emotionally. That's something that will always work for me, if the characters are well conceived, then they give the fan of the series another split by causing it to be Jibril. The story, driven by pulling strings, also seemed good to me and although the story could have done with a little more action or a deeper explanation of s…

very good prequel to an amazing show, i think this movie could have done a little better if they had turned it into a standard twelve episode anime but it still works as a movie, the climax to the story is fantastic and paves the way for the original show. this movie has everything from action to adventure to romance and a bit of tragedy thrown in the animation was also top notch. already watched this movie twice and would happily watch it a third time in the future, anyone who's a fan of the original series will find this a welcome chapter even if the original is dead a this point. the characters were a perfect 10 they were willing to sacrifice anything if it meant find a brighter future for their world would highly recommend you give this a watch but make sure to watch the original first

A decent ani movie for starters, I watched this way back in 17' and I was only starting to get into anime and this was somehow a great bait. This had pleasing visuals and the battle scenes were engaging (especially for starters). Plot-wise, nothing too ambiguous, I found the characters one dimensional (even after watching the main anime), it is still, however, enough to keep your attention throughout the whole film. I enjoyed it since I've also watched it with friends on the theaters but still not my forte (even back then). However, I can recommend if you're looking to pass time and you're craving for some ground breaking (pun intended) visuals and fight scenes.

5/10- Hit and Miss. Unfortunately unlike the anime, this movie is not nearly as good. The animation is beautiful and the fan service is there, but story wise it is extremely weak. It is basically a prequel to the main story but it doesn't add much to the current story we are following. Also, the story is also kinda all over the place. The things kinda happen a lot i.e there's very little buildup of the story elements we see in the second half. Our MC comes across a lot of new information that align perfectly with what needs to happen, quite convenient. Also, there is no games, which is the main draw of show. As far as characters are concerned, they are 1-dimensional, they feel hollow. Its the symptom of the story being so cliche.

🌌 Otherworldly °8.8° °outstanding° 💯%🔍 minor spoilers only They weren't playing around when they made this epic film. NGNL is an anime based on a manga that follows Sora and Shiro's adventures in world Disboard. It's flippant, fun, and logical. NGNL0 is the origin story of ancient Disboard. It's a world set up by the god, Tet, that is based on gaming. NGNL0 is stunning and serious. It feels completely distinct from the anime, though Sora and Shiro's version of the world bookends the film. Watching the anime isn't required to enjoy the flick, but it would likely improve the experience by adding context and layers. The laws are absolute. One must abide by agreements. Shirking from a wager after the fact is simply not allowed. For viewers who have already seen the original anime, what h…

9/10. I'll be upfront with my opinion. This is the complete opposite approach to the anime. The entirety of the TV series was focused on the theme of the ingenuity of imanity, and the movie takes it one step, hell, 100 steps above. As much as I enjoyed the comedy, the carefree and playful tv background drew similarities to Konosuba - certainly a mismatch with the serious and depressing grand theme I mentioned above. As some reviewer rightfully pointed out, Ivan's generic tear-jerk death and his daughter was a poor attempt; however, I offer an alternative opinion that this lays the groundwork to the viewer truly comprehending imanity's struggles. I, too, felt nothing for the daughter's reaction but noticed the suffocating situation imanity is in. The relationship between the two was dec…

If you’ve watched No Game No Life, then No Game No Life: Zero is an absolute must-watch. This movie takes the vibrant and playful world of the series and flips it into something far more intense, emotional, and haunting. It’s the prequel we never knew we needed but now can’t imagine the story without. The setting is entirely different—long before Tet’s peaceful reign, the world was consumed by endless war. Humanity (or Imanity, as it’s called) was hanging by a thread, caught in the crossfire of powerful beings known as the Sentinels. Riku, the human protagonist, carries the weight of his people’s survival on his shoulders. His journey is raw and painful, but it’s also filled with moments of hope that shine even brighter because of the darkness surrounding them. And then there’s Schwi. Wh…

This movie has gone beyond being a movie and entered the realm of art. This piece of work is a masterpiece. Whilst the anime is 7/10 - it would be better to watch it before the movie even though it's not required. Visuals: 10/10. Even the explosions evoke strong emotions. The explosions explode with beautiful timings and visuals. It's very good. Characters: 10/10. The characters grow and love in a way that makes the heart yearn. Music: 10/10. The music is subtle and barely noticeable mostly but in the moments that it is brought to the forefront - it is perfect and powerful. The closing song is perfect too. Plot: 10/10. It couldn't be better. This anime is a gripping masterpiece - it'll have you on edge throughout.

I enjoyed the series despite its flaws. Even if they aren't the best, I appreciate high-stakes games and mind-game tactics. But this review is about the movie, and unfortunately, it included all the negative aspects of the series without any of the good stuff. There are no games, challenges, hustling, or cheating. Instead, it's just a romance story that provides no new information about the NGNL world. The start of the movie is good, but it quickly goes downhill. The story is cliché and predictable, the characters are one-dimensional and annoying, and events happen for no apparent reason. The animation is good, and the sound is okay, but it doesn't live up to the series' standards. In summary, I don't recommend watching this movie, even if you liked the series. It doesn't add anything to…

I watched No Game No Life: Zero. This is the movie sequel to the TV series No Game No Life (henceforth NGNL). Here are my thoughts: This review will specifically discuss the NGNL: Zero movie, not the franchise as a whole. First of all, it's been years since I saw the TV anime. I liked it a lot though and rated it 9/10. I really really liked the art style and colour palette, and overall found it a very fun and entertaining show. Much of this review will focus on how the movie compares to the TV series, since that is the benchmark of my expectations. Although it still looks good, I prefer the colour palette of the TV series. I miss those bright pastel colours; this movie has a comparatively duller colour palette. It still has a lot of visual detail though and is fairly captivating. The vi…

No Game No Life: Zero is a movie that serves as a prequel to the No Game No Life anime series. Released in 2017, it tells the story of the past, giving the audience insight into how the world of Disboard came to be, and how the great war between the races destroyed the world. The movie has a different tone compared to the anime series, as it is darker and more serious in nature. However, it still retains the same charm and wit that made the anime series so popular. In this review, I will be discussing the movie in detail, highlighting its strengths and weaknesses. The movie begins by introducing us to Riku Dola, the leader of the human race in Disboard. Riku is shown to be a determined and intelligent young man, who wants to save his race from the brink of extinction. He believes that the…

A story before the time of the original duo, Riku and Schwi. Couldn't help but laugh my ass off at that scene. You know the one. It's no season 2 but it'll do. Edit: I just want to say that my review for this movie has changed to a masterpiece. It's one of those movies that will get you EVERY time, no matter how many times you see it. Today is my 6th? time rewatching and it always brings a tear to my eyes. The story and how it connects to the anime is so good, and the small details that you pick up from rewatching like the chess pieces, and the absolute beautiful and colorful artsytle and scenery, are some of what I love about this movie. It has the best fantasy feel to it, the one that I can only see in my dreams. No Game No Life Forever. Disclaimer: This is a review I wrote years ago i…

I liked NGNL. I LOVED this. Whereas I think the original got a bit confusing and convoluted, this was just straightforward storytelling and masterfully so at that. The visuals really made things stand out. There are great successes and then there are heartbreaking losses. All being told within one container as defined by Tet. It was simply just a wonderful story beginning to end. In order for a show to get a rating of 10 for me, it has to make me feel, just feel....anything. It has to make me move inside and keep me engaged. There was no point within this movie that I checked the time to see how much was left so I can plan on getting up and doing things and whatnot. This had me 100% tuned in and I find so few things so good for me. Kudos to the production team. The dub was done very wel…

Story: The story is great and in brief yet you can understand what is happening, but one thing bothered me about the main character but won't spoil the only reason I'm giving it 8 not 10 is because of the logic or (non logic) about the the feelings of the main character again I won't spoil but it makes no since compared to the "logic" theme of the series I think it could be better. Art +sound: Amazing as always , you can feel the scenes bot sound and art one of my favorite in all anime. character : 9 though I would give it less because I think there is some contradiction to the main character theme , yet the scenes that show the emotional part of the character are so great so it wouldn't be fair less than 9. overall : amazing movie I recommend , if you break in tears easily try watch i…

This anime has nice art and music and some interesting moments here and there, but feels ultimately RUSHED and extremely underdeveloped( No real spoilers here Pluses: + Nice art + Nice music + Somewhat atmospheric, at moments + Some dramas felt nice (felt nice, yet still were set back by core show minuses) + Cute robot girl? Neutral point: ± More serious than No Game No Life series Minuses: (unleash the words!) - EXTREMELY RUSHED - plot jumps forward with the speed of light, leaving no time for development of anything: characters relations, world, nations, war... Most things were either described with too few words or non described at all! - Feels fake, shallow - again, so many BIG concepts are thrown around, only to be ignored. There is this big fantasy world, there are a lot of natio…

While I rated the series an 8, I HAD to put a 9 somewhere. I enjoyed the series and could see it going far if it had continued, however it didn't call for a 9. But the movie is a whole other story. Taking place way before Sora and Shiro entered this world, we get to see the backstory. Or 'myth', as Tet calls it. I LOVE the way it's told from beginning to end. Starting with Tet in the middle of a game with Izuna, and ending with that, I couldn't help but want to cry towards the end. The detail with the story blew me away. We get to see why Sora, Shiro and Steph are the main 3 and how the rules were put into place. I personally loved the backstory and it made me appreciate the main story 100x more than if I had never watched this movie. I recommend watching this AFTER you watch the ser…
