Valkyria Chronicles

Valkyria Chronicles

Introduction

In its expansion west to gain resources, the Europan Imperial Alliance invades the neutral Principality of Gallia, seeking to take control of its vast Ragnite deposits. Their strategic advantage, technological superiority, and military might make opposition nonexistent, so they steamroll through the border of the sleepy principality with ease. As Imperial forces run through his quiet hometown, Welkin Gunther and his younger sister Isara jump into action, banding with the leader of the local militia to push the occupational forces out of the village. Quickly retreating to the Gallian capital, they are organized into a unit with the remnants of the militia, tasked with assisting in repelling the Imperial presence from the country. Though unfamiliar with war, the newly formed Squad Seven must defend their country from annexation. But as the battle rages on through the streets of Gallia, ancient secrets will bring the team closer than they'd ever anticipated. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Every review is subjective, art is subjective your opinion may differ, never trust reviews to make the opinion for you, use them as a guide and make your own journey. -- Senjou no Valkyria, the anime adaptation of the game of the same title, makes its origins unmistakably clear. The source material is a strong tactical title that combines inventive gameplay systems with a serviceable narrative. Once stretched into a 26 episode television format, however - the adaptation exposes significant weaknesses in pacing, narrative cohesion and overall directorial judgement. The series frequently plays like a string of disconnected cut scenes. In the game, the player fills the narrative gaps through active participation, so transitions between story beats feel natural. In the anime, that connective…

I will be not spoiling anything because it kinda sucks to tell the spoiler of the show let’s treat this as a short review, I will be just focusing on 3 main categories, STORY, ANIMATION, and SOUND Overview: Good Story: Its good but its lacking; the execution of human emotions is good. Main Characters are pretty decent to be likeable and not bad. The lacking part is that some side characters we didn’t get happily explore their story which suck but the direction of the anime really wants to focus on these certain characters as you go on. Animation, I really don’t see any disfigure or any problem from the anime, Action scenes are quite good it feels I’m watching Garupan a.k.a Girls Und Panzer with the first scene. I would say the animation is good but not an 8. Sound, I’m really having a h…

Friendship, bond, victory, defeat, loss, and grief. This anime about the war of course have them. Oh yeah and a well-planned strategy in order to win. The first half of the anime is good, they managed to hook me but the last part was not that good but still fine. And the unnecessary drama made me skip a few scenes because of how dumb it is. It was going very well in the first half but then... the second half... it could have been much better. I don't have much to say, but if you are into war, strategy, and a wise main character then give it a try.

i just found this unexpected very nice little gem (this was based i guess on a game, but I didn't know/play that game and frankly, do not care about that as i treated this anime solely on its own merits normally i ignore pre-2010 anime due to quality reasons as they mostly pale in comparison with the standard current-day anime we have my main criteria for considering these older anime is the art and Valkyria Chronicles has quite good animation that you'd think this was made only in the past few years and as a personal choice of mine, i appreciated that the MC's were young people but not high school age children the side characters were varied and interesting the story was realistic and engrossing so the lengthy series (i.e. 26 episodes) was admirably apt lastly and most importantly,…

Before i go to review, i have to stress, that this anime is best watched after you finish the game (which is absolutely magnificent game in its own right, even in 2020- in all fairness, VC is one of my favourite games, ever. Which says a lot, considering i play a lot of strategy and story based games) Sound: Sound design is quite good- voice actors give emotions trough quite well... Most of the time anyways- there are smaller hickups, but nothing that derives from fun. Now, i want to point out that i played game with english dub, so i cannot tell if voice acting is as good as it is in game or not. Music is also good- lot ofit is lifted from the game and implemented quite well to fit the situation. I did notice few new soundtracks too, but they were also good. Graphics & art: Even in 2020…

I'm sorry but this anime is shit. It started out good but ended on a sour note. I'm really disappointed since i read the reviews of others and 7.6 is a good score. but it was just a waste of time. Alicia is just the worst. She is such a brat and a drama queen. I couldn't understand her character. The MC was decent, if the anime went into a strategical military type of anime it would've turned out great, but no, it went into fantasy and magic lasers. Honestly why even bother with strategies when one character is overpowered enough to overthrow a country. Should have a fantasy, Sci-fi tag in there. And also Dementia because this anime made me crazy.

I love this anime. In my opinion, the whole show just felt so...wondrously executed! Perfection Incarnate Checklist: Based off a video game made by the same people who made Sonic the Hedgehog? Check. Expands upon characters who were just kind of there in the video game so much to the point of making me cry? Check. Beautiful ending? Check. Amazing villains who were even more compelling than the heroes? Check. Hatred for this anime being practically non-existent? Check. In summary, is this anime perfect, at least in my opinion? Check. In order to extend this review, let me discuss the spoiler-free comparison between the original video game of 2008, and the anime of 2009. Valkyria Chronicles was absolutely amazing for a game coming from Sega. Seriously, the game had easy-to-grasp controls, an…

This anime is severely underrated for its place in the MAL rankings. Other than the length of battles, there is not much to complain about. The battles tend to feel cut short and skipped over. (akward transition) The protagonists, Alicia Melchiott and Welkin, can also be a bit annoying. Alicias character is portrayed as more tsundere than in the game. Welkin is also made to be a bit of a moron who can’t take a hint. While the protagonists aren’t the greatest, the supporting cast is very well done. They aren’t given a lot of focus, but their likeable personalities are shown though short dialogue scenes which are satisfying. The portrayal of the these supporting characters really helps to invest you in the story of squad 7. Spoilers: The villains in this anime dont get enough screen time t…

Valkyria Chronicles is set in an alternate Europe around 1940s. With the timeline, it’s obvious that the overall theme will be World War 2-esque. This means that the primary target of the anime are either military & dieselpunk fans or those who have played the game. The sad reality is, it’s neither packed in combat actions nor gives us ‘fanservice’ (not ecchi panty shots and the others, but as in we could see more of our favorite character development outside of the game and see him/her got more spotlight, etc). So all in all, this anime can be considered a flop in its execution but still, it has potential if it was done in another way (like making it slice of life in the military base or comedy rather than the usual melo-war movie that is plot-focused with a little bit of romance). Here…

Valkyria Chronicles like so many game adaptation anime suffers from plot holes, pacing problems and underdeveloped characters. I never played the RPG and evaluate this as anime first. Story - 3: An alternate timeline setting that somewhat resembles WWII Europe and lost civilization quickly spikes the interest of the viewers. And just as fast causes confusion for everyone who haven't played the game. Series makes huge leaps from one development to the next, never truly uncovering the desired depth of the story line. This is the plague that haunts game adaption anime time and time again. You don't get the gradual exposure to the story line like you would by progressing through hours and hours of gameplay. Instead it stretches into 24 episode of unnecessary fillers followed by rushed 4 epis…

Valkyria Chronicles (The PS3 game which is the source material of the anime) is a piece of art with it's immersive storytelling, humane and multi-dimensional representation of the main, and a certain part of the secondary cast of characters, and with it's subtle way of conveying about the ""two sides of the coin", portraying the lack of solid difference between the warring factions of your ordinary soldier on either sides, all displayed on a background, unraveling the war-torn, even if fictional world of Europa. And despite it's interesting premise, the anime adaptation of that material "Senjou no Valkyria", crashes down in all the beforementioned highlights, which made this franchise different from the other similar ones, shoving in our face chewed up, and weirdly twisted story, altered…

There are things this show does a lot better than anime. Then there are things it does a lot worse. This is only natural, a game can't possibly do as good of a job in the character development department as an anime. Well, it can if it's an RPG, but VC is a tactical game with very few RPG elements. Anyway, I have already named the best aspect of the anime - character development. Watching the characters come together over the course of the war feels great. It's not like they all like each other, it's more like they're siblings - they may even hate each other, but they'd also die for each other. This is very realistic, the special bond between people is something most soldiers talk about , and VC portrays it in a very convincing way. The characters are very diverse, though at times quite…

One of the more garbage anime I have ever watched. Unbelievable that the top 2 rated reviews are 10's. I wanted to stab myself with a writhing swordfish and vomit blood everytime the estrogen for brains MC showed his lack of testicular fortitude. I'll start with the story. The story is awful. I didn't play the PS3 game so I'm not going to judge this through any biased lense, nor am I going to necesarilly blame the animators if they were just sticking with the source material, but trash is trash no matter how much you sugar coat it with Alicia's subtle yet blazing hot zettai ryuoiki. The premise is basically just a highly fictionalized version of WW2 where darcsens = jews. Most of the plot developments are highly predictable cliche scenarios, ie: corrupt superiors and war time violence. No…

At this point in time, you're likely coming here to see how the anime was after playing or hearing about the game. More people will likely have their curiosity piqued with the remaster on PS4, and still some with the usual Steam sales. Personally after playing the game again on PC, I wanted to see those awesome scenes and battles I played in animated form. Many are likely wanting the same thing...and does this deliver? Yes and no. Story - 7 (Good) The story I can sum up from just the game's description itself: "Set in a fictitious continent reminiscent of the 1930s, Valkyria Chronicles depicts Europa, divided and ruled by two super powers: the Empire and the Federation. The Empire has set its sights on invading the principality Gallia, which shares its borders with the two superpowers,…

This review is not the most fancy of ones, so it will be very short and to the point about whether this anime is really good or not. The answer, is yes. Senjou no Valkyria is based off a video game under the same name, and it follows the story of Alicia and Welkin as they fight together in a war brought on by the empire. I highly recommend playing the game first, but if not, then watching the anime first, is fine. If I had to pick one thing about this show that stood out the most to me, then it would be that this is one of the best game-to-anime adaptions I have ever seen. While there is no OP or ED with this show, the quality is very much there. The characters are likeable, the sounds are good enough, the art style is very pleasing, the story is great, and overall, its an enjoyable milita…

A scene is set. A continent is at war, and a small country is caught in the mix of it all, Gallia. This surrounds a make-believe Second World War, where it is between the Federation in the west and the Empire to the East. Caught in the middle of those two, the small country of Gallia is caught up in the war because of its rich amount of Ragnite, an essential fuel source within the universe of the anime. The anime follows Welkin Gunther, the son of the late General Gunther, who was a war hero in the First Europan War, and his adventures and operations as a commander. This anime sets the stage for an awesome anime, and without a doubt, it delivers, but not fairly well in some areas. The story is set within a universe much like our own, and with the same social problems, political corruptnes…

If you have played the game that this is based on then you are going to know the main characters Welkin,Alicia,Isara,Rosie and Largo (AKA the characters that appear in most of the games cut scenes) with the rest of squad 7 being made up of characters from the character of the DLC Edy’s Mission: Enter the Edy Detachment (although all of these characters can be recruited into the squad anyway in the game) most other members of squad 7 are either placed into Faldio's squad 1 or are shown as side characters. Anyway moving on the anime makes away with the games beautiful water pastel design in favour of a more standard art style although disappointing it still looks pretty good. Another thing to note is that many things occur differently to the game including plot points and character developme…

Given that both the anime and the Steam PC game version has won the ' 2015 Series of the Year' award from myself, it's funny how the anime version fills a lot gapes and flaws in the game plot-wise and at the same time having it's own gapes and flaws as well. Given that, however, both the game and the anime versions have successfully deliver the emotions in terms of the relation of the characters to the audiences/gamers, despite of its aces and flops. The soundtrack is also phenomenal, and there's also lots of memorable moments that will leave you sniffing out lots of tissues. Overall, Valkyria Chronicles was an experience that will be in my heart forever.

Overview: Valkyria Chronicles is not only one of my favorite games for PS3, but one of my favorite games of all time! So how does this anime live up to its video game inspiration? Well...it certainly isn't bad, but it also could have been a lot better. Give me just a few paragraphs and I will try to explain my thoughts. Background: As you are well aware, unless you have been living under a rock, there is a genre of fiction called “alternate history”. Alternate history is basically imagining a separate timeline if one or 2 major events went differently. It is widely used across all forms of media from novels to anime to video games. A common sub-genre of alternate history is fantasy alternate history in which magic and different laws of physics exist, so we have to imagine how that woul…
