Introduction

In order to pursue her dream of bringing positive changes to Japan, Mitsumi Iwakura leaves her countryside town to attend a prestigious high school in the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. As she has already mapped a clear life plan, she has absolute confidence that there will be zero mishaps from then onwards. Despite her ambitious promise, the country girl ends up running late on the first day when she gets lost on her way to school. Fortunately, she meets a fellow first-year student, Sousuke Shima, who is in the same situation and offers to go with her. They eventually make it to school, but the misfortunes do not end there, as Mitsumi leaves an unfavorable first impression in front of her classmates. Nevertheless, the class soon takes notice of her friendship with Sousuke despite their opposing personalities. Only time will tell whether Mitsumi will be able to forge fruitful relationships with her classmates, and she will certainly not be alone. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

If you don't like slice of life, then this show is not for you. It's not that this show has no plot/light plot, it's that it is a slice of life which in and of itself, is not supposed to have heavy drama or romance. It is supposed to excel and doing not much/chilling with you. It's supposed to have comedy and make you fall in love with the characters, so that you would enjoy seeing them do mundane things. I am an avid slice of life watcher and this did such a good job of showing us a slice of their lives in a relatable and enjoyable way. You see Mitsumi and Shima-kun (and their friends) experience and feel so many news things for the first time. Its direction is so good, it makes you feel how they feel in the moment - the anxiety, the heartbreak, the panic, the confusion, the fear of bein…

Sometimes the stories that change you aren't the loudest but it's the quiet ones that stays with you the longest. Skip and Loafer was exactly that. - SKIP AND LOAFER IS A REMINDER OF WHAT IT FELT LIKE TO GROW UP As we grow older, it's funny how the little things are often the ones we remember most, we remember the simple things like the walk home after school, the conversations that went on for hours, laughing at cringe jokes that probably weren't even that funny, the nervous excitement of meeting someone new, the feeling of having a crush that made ordinary days feel a little special. Those are the small moments we felt like we truly belonged, at that time we never realized that those moments were something special, it was just normal days, moments we experienced without thinking they wo…

Skip and loafer is not your usual romance anime who the protagonist doesn't have any personality besides their love for the heroine, this anime rather more focused on their characters struggle and how they approach it. The story start with our protagonist a highschool girl who just moved to tokyo. Despite how many anime started with such premises skip and loafer executed it without forgetting who she actually was. Some people might found it boring because the slow paced of this but i rather argue the anime does the pacing better than the manga who feel so fast paced on my eyes. if you like slice of life genre this anime will offer you a good experience as a media, but if you a romance genre fans especially the newest gen, this anime will just exhausted you for how minimum the romance fee…

Art was clean and fits the story. The colour palette was what stood out the most to me - it was very bright and subdued pastels. It was sorta cute but boring and I thought the male love interest was too perfect (handsome and smart and nice) for the ditzy new girl who isn't that cute or funny either. Didn't feel the chemistry between them. The story was "country girl from the boonies moves to big city". Characters were medium complexity, not very memorable or super well-rounded. Low stakes, slice of life without the charm or pure, peaceful vibe of other animes of this sort of genre.

This is a wholesome romance show that drops you into the life of a high school girl as she embraces new experiences in the city. You find out more about her family and friends and watch things unfold organically. The art is pretty, with a soft color palette and simple shading. The animation is good and balances the use of stills so it doesn't feel like a slideshow. There is a large cast of characters who have depth - a single character may come to display moments of awkwardness, insecurity, thoughtfulness, and courageousness over time. The show alludes to heavier topics such as bullying and troubled home life, but doesn't get dark. One thing thing that bugged me though was the male lead’s baggage (specifically regarding fame) that he works through by the final episode. It was a bit melodr…

Skip to Loafer is definitely among the best slice-of-life anime out there, since it succeeds at what 90% of such series fail to do - find the fine balance between offering a realistic depiction of life while staying true to the usual positive tone of the genre. As a result, we get a cast of down-to-earth characters who genuinely resemble real human behavior. This, in turn, makes the whole experience much more rewarding (and heartwarming) when they interact with each other and, through the power of communication and common sense, overcome their worries without overcomplicating things with mental issues straight out of the DSM-5. You know why? Because, just like in real life, overthinking is often the biggest hindrance to our happiness, and it's only when you finally let yourself open up to…

I have a soft spot for any media that invokes bittersweet feelings because I love that it can leave you wanting more and cause a sense of self-reflection. My high school life wasn't nearly as romanticised as anime makes it out to be, and Skip & Loafer really resonated with me and made me feel nostalgic for what could have been. This show does a great job of just letting high school kids be kids and allowing all of their different personalities to shine. If you love coming-of-age and/or slice-of-life shows where you get to feel good about the moments characters get to share with one another, I highly recommend :)

Wanna smile at dumb highschoolers? Watch this. I love this show a lot and why is that? Because the side characters are awesome. it really feels like they're friends who like to hang out and I can relate to that a whole lot, going out with friends is fun (for me when I want to at least lol). They feel like real people you might be friends with in school or people in your class you overhear talking. Pretty girl (yuzuki) , nerdy girl (makoto), girl not from here (mitsumi) or even popular guy (sousuke uchia trust that's his name) or obsessive theater guy (narumi). Maybe i didn't meet most of these people in my life in my beautiful country that will get political if mention, but it does feel like the kind of friends id want if i didn't have my friends. The places and themes that happen are kin…

I've always enjoyed slice of life and/or romance anime, so even though the premise didn't seem like anything special, I'm glad I gave this one a chance! First of all, the artstyle and animation were really pretty. The thin lines, pastel colors and detailed backgrounds really impressed me: especially in comparison with some other anime I've been watching lately. It made the experience even more enjoyable. I did like the first half of the season more because it focused on highschool-typical drama instead of background lore of the characters, but I didn't think the second half was bad. The characters were charming and made it a pleasant experience nonetheless. The relationship between the two MCs felt really gentle, too and I'm happy no toxic drama was ever the focus. Sometimes, the confl…

I didn't liked it at all. The drawings, the animations, the design was good indeed, the show was really light and comforting? But the story was so annoying and boring I thought I could've watch another movie at the same time and nothing would evolve... I would not recommend it but I feel like a lot of people are going to agree. The end was bad, I don't know if the manga has another ending but the one of the anime just left me like in a "wtf was that" mode. The MC was cute though, I really liked her personality and I loved how she was not the usual cute girl who blushes every 10 seconds. The boy's personality was realistic though, he was calm, and far away from the usual cliché of the "popular, arrogant and cold buy".

I dropped this anime at first after watching episode 1 thinking this will be a common story about a bad boy and an innocent country girl who fell in love with each other. But I'm glad that I gave this another chance because my expectations was proven wrong. It is better to classify this as a slice of life instead of a romance anime. STORY: 8/10 - The story is very relaxing as it shows the mundane life of a country girl adjusting to a stressful life of one of the most populous city in the world which is Tokyo. I also liked that they don't put unfunny comedic tropes in this anime. The pacing of the plot is good especially on how they are giving hints about the dark past of the male protagonist. But don't expect a love story here that will make you scream out of happiness. CHARACTERS: 10/10…

Review: Skip and Loafer – A Wholesome Slice of Life That Heals the Soul. Personal Stats: As of May 2025, I’ve completed 159 anime with a mean score of 7.32. Skip To Loafer rating: 8/10. After binge-watching a couple of heavy, depressing anime, I was craving something light and uplifting, and Skip and Loafer was the perfect recommendation I was given. I’m really glad I gave it a shot. It is a charming and heartwarming anime, with a focus on personal growth and the joys of everyday life. The characters are cute, a little clumsy, and very relatable, making it easy to get attached to them. While it doesn’t offer anything groundbreaking, the experience is genuinely enjoyable and comforting. There might be some deeper meaning behind the story, but honestly, you can just watch it laid-back an…

one of the cutest animes i've ever seem in my life! the story is so lovely, the way the characters relationships are developed, we can see their flaws and strenghts in a natural way, they're not superficial characters, they really look like normal teenagers, each of them are different, and that's coo, i think this anime is very easy to like, everything is so adorable! it's like a remedy, the rhythm is calm but engaging, and the art is also wonderful and delicate. and also, the next season may have some layers to be discovered, moving away from cuteness, becoming a little more serious. but anyway, i love skip to loafer so much, it warms my heart.

First off, I'm going to fanboy for a minute and praise Kurosawa Tomoyo https://myanimelist.net/people/11661/Tomoyo_Kurosawa I loved her VA in Hibiki Euphonium and I loved her VA in Loafers. I literally could listen to her read me the entire Tax Code and I'd be as happy as could be. Not sure what it is about her delivery, but she's got such a soothing voice. Anyhow, that aside, this was a completely unexpected show for me. I really enjoyed the presentation of Mitsumi's character with the light hearted comedic gags in the beginning to the character she becomes by the end of the season (no spoilers) This is 100% a show to check out. Can't wait for S2

Realistic and relatable characters. Characters are very perceptive and introspective. Mitsumi is adorable. Her aunt is great too. I like how Shima and Mika are developing as characters. Yuzuki is a sweetheart. Makoto is fun to watch. Kanechika is a joy to watch. Takemine is a lovely character too. I love the girls friendships in this anime. Mitsuma, Yuzuki, Mika, and Mikata are a great example of a girl friendship group. Mitsumi and Fumino's friendship is also realistic and cute. The strongest parts of this anime are the characters, how they develop as characters, and their relationships with each other. Give it a go; you can at least find yourself in one of these characters.

This anime is truly remarkable. Mitsumi reminds me of many straightforward, innocent male protagonists from shonen anime, except here, the role is reversed. She’s the perfect narrator for this story. Her journey from a naïve girl from the countryside to someone gradually finding her place in Tokyo, all while retaining that genuine innocence, is the key thread that ties everyone together. In contrast to many romance series where the main characters get all the spotlight, every supporting character here receives attention to their personal growth, and motivations, making you feel as if they’re part of your own circle of friends. The show also employs an uplifting sense of “everything will work out in the end.” It focuses on important moments in Japanese high school life, like festivals and…

I always had a soft spot for slice of life animes when I was younger, and I am glad to see the progress the anime culture has taken since then. The main boy character is still a bit mysterious but he is not as brooding, bordering creepy, as the characters back in the old days. I see people are disappointed to find out that this romance anime has little to no romance but I disagree -- some romances start from friendships, and what they did in the first season is establish that friendship. One thing that stood out for me and made me realize that anime has stepped into a more progressive direction was the small acknowledges to Nao-chan's sexuality. They did not dive deeper into it nor made her the butt of jokes. Just casual mentioning of the matter and shower of compliments for Nao-chan. Also…

I was a bit hesitant to watch this one because I felt like I've seen just a bit TOO many high school romance stories this year, and I was kiiiiiiinda starting to get tired of the genre. But this one reeled me RIGHT back in and I loved every second of it! It goes WAY beyond just a simple romance story. Every episode had genuinely heartfelt lessons about friendship, social interactions, fitting in, and SO many more topics that all felt personal in one way or another. It was all worded and portrayed so beautifully and made me feel a whole mess of emotions. The artstyle is so warm and expressive, as well. I could've spent three times the length in this world and with these characters and I REALLY hope I get to with additional seasons in the future. There very clearly is still more that needs t…

Skip to Loafer is a wonderful little anime about friends. It follows a 15-year old girl called Mitsumi from a small town in Ishikawa and her relationships with the people around her, with a focus on her and her friend Sousuke. Because she comes from a village where everyone knows each other, she's a little anxious about her new high school-life in Tokyo. The anime is a perfect mix between drama and slice-of-life. Mistumi's exploits bring a big charm to this anime, while her anxiety and Sousuke's youth provide more serious undertones to an otherwise monotonous story. While this anime is not light-hearted per se, it is also not too heavy; no tears will be shed. Though classified as seinen, I'm unsure about its target demographic. I struggle to find it believable that many men would take su…

Skip and Loafer shows that you can excel with just the basics. The characters act like human beings. Words that end with -dere are abandoned in favor of writing actually good characters. Each character has their own colorful and interesting personality and they interact like real human beings would. The characters also stay true to their personality and act accordingly. It is great that a writer finally got rid of the stupid one-trait characters that only do one thing. There is no crazy premise or story with time-travel or whatnot. The setting is just a normal high school setting. Life is chill and there are no crazy stakes like death, poverty or world ending disaster. There is just the normal high school drama and their usual social interactions like friendship, conflict, school and even…
