AniWorthGalerians: Rion

Introduction
In the 26th century, Rion Steiner awakens in a hospital to the sound of a girl's voice in his head. Unable to remember who he is, he uses psychic powers to break out and sets out to discover himself, and the truth behind those who are after him - the Galerians. Their mother Dorothy, the super-computer with a God complex, will not sit idly by, as he holds the only key to the program that can destroy her.

Galerians: Rion is kind of a mess, but largely because the original Galerians (a PS1 survival horror game of which this is an adaptation) is also largely a mess. It seemingly uses the same engine for in-game cutscenes, meaning the entire movie kind of looks like a PS2 cutscene. It expands upon scenes while largely keeping the plot and beats the same, which does include the final twist (which is presented as "maybe a lie maybe it's true" but no matter what you'll have to swallow some pretty massive plot holes either way). If there is something that Galerians: Rion directly improves on the original over, it's the voice acting. The voice direction is much better (as opposed to before where it was nonexistent), and while Rion is supposed to be 14/16 but sounds like he's 20, it is probably bett…

Looking past the... distinct visuals for a second, Galerians: Rion is not a bad anime per-se, as it has a lot of spirit, and the story it's trying to tell actually seems pretty interesting. The real problem lies in the fact that it feels like a strange CG artifact, very much a product of its time. The whole thing feels like a lengthy PS2 cutscene, which makes sense since it was based off a PS1 game. The 3D only serves this anime when it is showcasing a schizophrenic flashback of events, with code, microscopic cell structures, and flashes of words and phrases paired with glitchy electronic music. The story is complicated, and I believe is probably better experienced through the medium of the game (even if I haven't played it), but I can't get over how cool the concept of an insane AI manufa…

If you stumbled upon the page for this anime and are somehow thinking about giving it a shot, just don't. It's a waste of time.
Awe man, this one. I believe I watched this on MTV or something a few years back. I didn't understand it then and after reading synopsis now, I still don't get where they were going with this. The story is atrocious and goes nowhere. The protagonist is a twat.
The animation, oh god, the animation. The graphics for the game this is supposed to be based on look better. It's almost like the result of a performance art piece to see how one could complete an animated work with as little effort as possible. There are some anime that are entertaining because of how bad they are. This is not one of those anime. It's just not fun or entertaining at all to watch. Simply g…

Welcome, my friends. To horror anime month. We begin the festivities with a look at an OVA based on a video game. Galerians: Rion is a three episode OVA based on a Playstation survival horror game from Crave Entertainment, ASCII Entertainment and Polygon Magic. The OVA was handled by Enterbrain and Polygon Magic, coming out a full three years after the game’s release. Probably to coincide with the sequel for the Playstation 2. I have never played the game, nor had I heard of it before looking up information about the OVA, so I’m going into this one blind.
Story:
The narrative opens with a young man with super powers named Rion breaking out of a laboratory. Continuing the trend of totally original and not at all common plot points, he has amnesia. During his escape he manages to learn abo…
