While scrolling through mal, I found this anime movie. Even though it had bad reviews I still watched it. To my surprise, it was a solid 80's scifi anime, with a somewhat predictable, but intriguing plot. I especially like it since scifi is one of my favorite anime genres.
The art and animation were good for it's time(1989). Especially in the fight scenes, which are animated nicely.
Characters were basic, but still interesting.
If you don't know what other anime movies to watch, I recommend this one. However, don't just don't take it seriously and instead just have fun watching.

The story starts off pretty standard sci-fi stuff with a rag tag space ship crew crash landing on an alien planet and banding together for survival before turning into what I can only describe as a messy hodge podge of ideas with psychic humanoids, gorilla like super soldiers and military dictators vying for dominance while a small band of rebel soldiers seek to take down said military dictators. Oh, and there's something about a robot super weapon as well. At least, that's what I got from it.
The characters aren't exactly any better either. The film has a large cast of characters but they're all just bland and uninteresting. While the animation is... passable at best.
As for the…

The story at first wasn’t too bad, a little boring but not terrible. A cargo ship crash lands on a distant back-water planet (Garaga) which is inhabited by monsters, ape-men and mysterious people who have psychic abilities, who all seem to be engaged in a civil war with one another. We see how the stranded crew struggle against an environment they are not familiar with and try to find a way off the hostile planet. Sounds like a typical b-movie you’d find on the sci-fi channel. But then the story begins to go all over the place, with the introduction of power hungry generals in cahoots with the evil psychics and androi…
