Lupin the Third: Jigen's Gravestone

Lupin the Third: Jigen's Gravestone

Introduction

The film will be a continuation spinoff of the 2012 "Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine" television anime series. Lupin and Jigen have their sights set on a treasure worth stealing called the Little Comet which is located in the country of East Doroa. The country has fortified its border after a singer named Queen Malta got assassinated in the neighboring country of West Doroa upon visit. Despite the two countries being enemies, Lupin and Jigen still plan to steal the treasure. During the heist, Jigen almost got killed by a skilled sniper named Yael Okuzaki. His specialty is preparing tombstones for his targets before executing his kills. Its said that no one has survived after Yael makes a grave for that target. (Source: ANN)

Lupin the IIIrd: Jigen’s Gravestone makes for an exceptionally thrilling start to Takeshi Koike’s take on Lupin. From the exhilarating gunfights to the impacting choreography, this one leans hard into the action side of this franchise and does so exceedingly well. The detailed and energetic animation perfectly conveys the surprisingly gory moments and raw grit of it all, and the bright and lively color design gives everything a nice pop to allow for some truly eye-grapping shots. That said, there is an unintended consequence of it becoming a bit more difficult to employ suspension of disbelief when the more physically unbelievable moments pop up, something that’s normally easy to accept in a more standard cartoony Lupin world, but feels slightly out of place when the tone drifts more towar…

5.5/10 - Not as good as "The women named Fujiko series", but its more Lupin iii So I watched this immediately after finishing L3:TWNFM series, expecting a bit more of the same quality, art and story telling. And tho its technically part of that continuity its a considerable step down in all fields. Very disappointing to say the least, but at the end of the day its on par with most Lupin iii movies of the past, so if you enjoy those you will most likely enjoy this. As much as I have general respect for Lupin the 3rd in a general sense, im not the biggest fan of the over arching series to be completely honest so this just wasnt for me. However L3:TWNFM series is just a complete work of art and I highly recommend that, I just think they are two completely diffrent products and kinda hard to…

Lupin III: Jigen's Gravestone Jigen has met his match. Well more than a match. Jigen is a target for assassination. But Lupin is curious why he is not also on the hit list. You get to see Fujiko naked in this. Its not really out of the ordinary since you get to see Fujiko’s breasts a lot throughout the series. But here she’s extra naked. Her only purpose in this special seems to be fan service. Zenigata and Goemon are absent from this special. For the most part this special is kinda pointless. Not bad. I just dont know why it exists. There is a plot about stealing a valuable shard of a comet. There is a plot about assassination. A plot about trying to unify two warring countries East Doroan and West Doroan. But these plots are more of a backdrop.

[THIS WAS WRITTEN RIGHT AFTER WATCHING IT AND ON MY SOCIAL MEDIA ACC. KEEPING THIS HERE FOR AN ARCHIVE] Number one of the koike film trilogy complete. This one was not even an hour long, it was more of a special than anything. It was GREAT!!!!! SUPER COOL!!!!!! Was not expecting lupin to have a blue jacket for this given that twcfm had green jacket lupin. On tha topic of lupin himself tho I have to say, Keith Silverstein does a really great job as him!! A very left field feeling casting since Silverstein does more mysterious and evil characters usually, and while lupin is on the evil side in koike projects, he’s no hisoka. Very surprised the casting team didn’t go for the sonny strait funi cast though since they also did twcfm. Sadly tho I did not vibe w Dan woren as jigen, his voice just…

The premise is so bad and they know it, so much so that they don't even pretend to create a back story or force something from the past. It's just a random backdrop they created to define Jigen as the best gunslinger in the world, amazing that the best way they found to do that was to get a dubious guy to duel him. The big thing about this movie is that if they just wanted to show Jigen's amazing skills to the audience, why didn't they show his backstory???? We are tired of seeing Jigen being amazing in the anime, so much so that in this story he doesn't even come close to how good he is in the series in fact! It's ridiculous. They even forced a fake kill AAAAAAAAA. It's so bad, so sad, they even lowered the level and showed a clearly pornographic scene of Fujiko in this disgrace, the cha…

I went into this knowing nothing about the Lupin series. And I must say, I really appreciate it's grit and mature approach. I know myself well enough to say, the original lighthearted take wouldn't have appealed to me. Period. This is basically perfect as a stand-alone viewing with the only downside being the portrayal of the female supporting character. I do not know her, but I do believe she deserves a better, more dignified treatment. Individual ratings for each aspect: Story - 5 (Serviceable and straight forward.) Art - 10 (Beautifully animated and stylish. Fragrant.) Sound - 10 (The soundtrack felt appropriate and a welcome departure from average animes. Especially annoying shounens.) Character - 6 (I do not posses the context to determine this better, because I am not a follow…

So this film has the same mature and adult tone as the fujiko mine series which I thought overall was good. I really enjoy the Lupin the 3rd series but this was pretty disappointing overall. Right from the beginning we already know that Jigen is not going to actually die which kills some of the mystery or any kind of “suspense” the viewer is supposed to be in. Also what was the point of having Fujiko Mine in this? 90% of her inclusion in this film is just her locked in a glass enclosure naked getting attacked by a robot. Her presence in this was nothing more than fan service and she could have easily been left out. This ova is pretty much focused on Lupin and Jigen trying to stop a killer with an eye patch that was shooting at them as they were trying to finish a heist at the start of the…

Its a Lupin the Third OVA. What do you really expect? You can't go wrong with Lupin, if you like a less serious show and can handle some flaws here and there its a good ride that is definitely worth it. Though this film is more geared towards pre-existing series fans, as it (and the rest of the trilogy) deal with the "side" cast more than Lupin himself. This one definitely still feels classic Lupin though, its a decent heist plot that gets replaced with a cool assassin thing that managed to be really flashy and entertaining. I will say the fetish club thing was really weird though and kinda killed the goofy tone the rest of the movie had, and Lupin's plans as always are never sign posted and just feel like the writer pulling schemes from a hat.

Lupin III: Jigen's Gravestone (Grave) is the first movie in the Fujiko series. It continues themes of a more adult native and the distinctive art style the series was known for something I rather appreciate. Lupin and Jigen are after a jewel called the little comet but are hounded by the police no matter where they run. Amid their escape, Jigen gets shot by an assassin targeting him named Yael who gambles on the number of shots he will use on a mark with a dice. Yael is so confident in his ability he prepares a gravestone for each one of his targets. Fujiko gets captured while pulling a caper and it is up to Lupin to come to the rescue all while trying to keep Jigen alive. It a pretty alright story I enjoyed reasonably well. That said for its title Gravestone is more a Lupin focused film…

I was emotionally compiled to watch this because Jigen is one of my favorite characters ever! There was a lot more emotional response from myself and the characters than I expected to happen. It was really dark and serious, but everyone stayed in character. Lupin was silly and cunning! Jigen was serious with a cold exterior and warm interior. Zenigata and Goemon weren't in it and there's no character development woman, but a woman does play a key role in the story. Fujiko is her usual self. What I really like about this is that the bad guys were strategic and characteristic, and not power hungry because they already had the power until the gang came along. I can suggest this to people familiar with Lupin, but I don't know if I can suggest this to new anime fans because it's very contextu…

In the early 2010s, Lupin III underwent a revival of sorts with two features: A WOMAN NAMED FUJIKO MINE (a TV series) and THE GRAVESTONE OF DAISUKE JIGEN (a spin-off film). Both took Lupin back to his manga comic roots: the setting was the 1960s-70s, the story was darker and more serious, Lupin and his mates were more self-serving and treacherous. This film-noir hardboiled version was a great hit and successful revival of Lupin III (if rather controversial - some Lupin fans preferred his softer, more popular version of a noble trickster). I would call GRAVESTONE the better part of the revival. The Fujiko series did things differently and delightfully, but it presented a convoluted backstory that turned out to be a falsehood, all for a character that never really had a history to begin wi…

'Lupin the IIIrd: Jigen Daisuke no Bohyou', or 'Jigen Daisuke's Tombstone' - a spinoff of one of my personal favourite anime 'Lupin the Third: The Woman Called Mine Fujiko'. While I certainly didn't see it meeting the same level of quality as the the original, this spin off was certainly still an enjoyable watch. But let me break it down: ~STORY~ The story of Jigen Daisuke's Tombstone is definitely weaker than its original counterpart, even compared to individual episodes - which is certainly a shame. Rather than a focus on Lupin III, as you may have guessed the story is focused more on his hat-tilting, gun-toting friend Jigen. Or does it? Jigen is indeed the one in the title, but he seems less interesting than other iterations of himself, and commands less focus (More about that in Chara…

In a movie called "Daisuke Jigen's Tombstone," one might suppose that it would be about, oh, I don't know...Daisuke Jigen. Probably his inevitable death (which will, of course, be fake because he's been kicking since the 60s and do you really think some random movie villain is going to end him?). If you are hoping for a Jigen origin story, you'll find more backstory in many Red Jacket series episodes. Instead of focusing on the titular character (as The Woman Called Fujiko Mine did), this is once again a Lupin adventure. That's, of course, not a bad thing. The Lupin franchise has been going strong with no end in sight. However, the movie had a strange feel to it. It was very 1970s, but you won't understand why it has such an outdated feel until a certain end scene at which point the Jigen…
