It's not so much robots here, but magic. This combination feels more logical than "scientific science," which is definitely an advantage for the franchise. The banter has been reduced, and the humor has generally changed, but the collaboration with Devilman and Grendizer brings a smile. The main character herself in this adaptation is moderately sarcastic and moderately sweet. The main drawback of this anime is that it feels unfinished, as leaving such a twist until the last episode is very mean, but even so, these are good fights with good fan service. I recommend it to fans of the 90s OVAs.

Playfully saucy action oriented magical girl OVA with superb cell based animation.
Even after running through most of these that are available on Blu-Ray, this one stands out as the best (other than maybe Re: Cutie Honey). Fun & sexy without ever feeling particularly porny, it has great 90's era cel based animation (with the fluidity of the transformation sequences & some of the fights being spellbinding), and a humorous supporting cast that actually pulls their weight in confrontations most of the time (Cyborg Danbei is absolute best Danbei).
Only thing holding it back from perfection is the fact that like so many other OVA series it doesn't have a conclusive ending with some narrative threads left open (with some other oddities like the city's aesthetic changing from some sort of gothi…

Despite the fact that, at the time of this review, Shin Cutie Honey only has positive or mixed reviews here, I've mostly seen negative opinions about it everywhere else. I do not understand them, however.
Shin Cutie Honey is a soft-sequel of the original, 1973 series, though in a way it makes more sense to refer to it as the "Turn A Gundam" of Cutie Honey, as it is set in a distant, dystopic future with different versions of characters from Nagai Go's star system.
It adds a lot to the original by having characters with more fleshed out personalities and episodes with more of a story to them.
We now have a Gotham-esque metropolis of "Cosplay City", a "hardened" Honey with attitude, a lovely side-cast (I absolutely ADORE the visuals and relationship dynamic between Akakabu and Daiko, Chokke…

Just finished it, to sum it up, could be the best Cutey Honey anime but it wasn’t.
Shin takes place 100 years after the original manga (ended on a cliffhanger), Honey apparently forgot who she was, which is odd, no one questions it and it is never explained, a new villain appears and an old-known villain too, our heroine needs to stop them, a simple and “solid” plot… Then the problems begin to arise, the pacing. Shin is unfinished, initially it was supposed to have 12 eps and only 8 were made, however, the main plot for it only last for 4 episodes, what would have played out better for 12 eps was put into 4, thus it resulted in a very unforgettable, rushed and stale story for the series, which is a shame because it could be so much more, after episode 4 it goes back to your “villain of th…

Shin Cutey Honey follows Honey adventure as she has to face a new enemy. I will not be comparing this to the other Honey series as I only watch Re Cutie Honey and choose this since the art has age well. So on to the review.
Story:Cutie honey fights bad guy until she fights the last boss with the show having a real ending at the 4th episode and the rest feeling like bonus episode or they were not able to put more episode. There no real depth and is just good vs evil with some fun moments, gag and great one liners. This would not be bad as the lead Honey is basically fun super hero who fights for justice, but one side character really did not belong there and drag the story a bit, and I go more into that later. Is just some fun good vs evil and not much else.
Art: The animation has that 80…

This anime is actually amazing, which surprised me. Basically, it takes every great aspect from the original cutie honey (1973), and then greatly improves every weak aspect of the original.
There's a lot of attention to details, and you'll get most of it if you watched the original (despite all the silliness of original series). Intro song is a remix of original one. Intro sequence is new, but it uses elements from the original. There are similar elements resembling original series here and there, yet everything is greatly improved.
The anime is very similar in structure to the original one - meaning a monster or an enemy, followed by a fight, followed by the trademark "cutie honey reveal" scene ("aru toki watush wa....." (list of costumes) "ai no senshi cutie honey sa!"). However, now t…

Coming hot off the heels of watching the original 1973 Cutey Honey I had a lot to look forward to. For the most part Shin Cutey Honey delivers a much more solid experience than the original. For those wondering, no, you do not need to watch the original 1973 series to enjoy this show. The original anime doesn't even finish the manga arc that this follows up. Just know a long time ago Cutey Honey beat up some bad guys and good enough.
The animation is fantastic in this show. It really gives a vibe of an early 90s anime or even American cartoon with it's dark cities and generally grosser enemies. It's a pretty large, and in my opinion needed, contrast from the 1973 series. I love that Danbei is now this cyborg thing. He still gets knocked around like before, but it shows the progression of…

New Cutey Honey is a very fun OVA series, with plenty of fan service.
The show has a fun feel, with the quirky humor of Go Nagai, and lots of slapstick humor as well.
It's formulaic, basically our hero Honey, she's a sexy blonde girl who is an android and transforms into a red-headed warrior! Her transformations are lavishly animated, all around the show has a great look, smoothly animated with love.
Pretty much a lot of accidental boob touching and blushing, slapstick humor, crazy over the top villains, crazy fun fights. Done with great art, very catchy music, and some memorable characters, especially our heroine Honey. And this is my favorite iteration of her story too.
So, pretty much yes, the vibe and fan service is this show's claim to fame. None the less, the other aspects of th…
