DARLING in the FRANXX

DARLING in the FRANXX

Introduction

In the distant future, humanity has been driven to near-extinction by giant beasts known as Klaxosaurs, forcing the surviving humans to take refuge in massive fortress cities called Plantations. Children raised here are trained to pilot giant mechas known as FranXX—the only weapons known to be effective against the Klaxosaurs—in boy-girl pairs. Bred for the sole purpose of piloting these machines, these children know nothing of the outside world and are only able to prove their existence by defending their race. Hiro, an aspiring FranXX pilot, has lost his motivation and self-confidence after failing an aptitude test. Skipping out on his class' graduation ceremony, Hiro retreats to a forest lake, where he encounters a mysterious girl with two horns growing out of her head. She introduces herself by her codename Zero Two, which is known to belong to an infamous FranXX pilot known as the "Partner Killer." Before Hiro can digest the encounter, the Plantation is rocked by a sudden Klaxosaur attack. Zero Two engages the creature in her FranXX, but it is heavily damaged in the skirmish and crashes near Hiro. Finding her partner dead, Zero Two invites Hiro to pilot the mecha with her, and the duo easily defeats the Klaxosaur in the ensuing fight. With a new partner by his side, Hiro has been given a chance at redemption for his past failures, but at what cost? [Written by MAL Rewrite]

wtf did I just watch… I NEVER give 1 star reviews but hopefully I can save someone 9 hours of their life I’ll never get back… I’ve watched some really boring anime’s with trash story lines and still give them atleast a 5/10 or 4/10 I gave this one a 1/10 because besides the actual plot being trash, The show is full of sexual symbolism with kids( yes kids). I get the whole fan service part of anime. But that’s not at all what this was because technically there wasn’t a lot of fan service it was more just disturbing themes. These are teenagers. The show never lets you forget it. It ties sexuality, puberty, and combat performance together in ways that get uncomfortable really fast. (Unless you’re a horny weirdo who gets off seeing teen girls be controlled like machines and treated like lab…

This show frustrates me because I've given shows 4/10s before (spoilers for my score if you just wanna read that and react accordingly, I guess) but it's usually because it's bad but generally tolerable enough not to actively piss me off DarliFra is not that way. This show has some low, low, DIRE points but idk, I can't say I hated it when I was sobbing by the end? I guess I'll start with what the show starts with: This is the most aggressively hetero show to hetero I obviously have no problem with shows being hetero but this is built around the premise that a boy needs a girl and a girl needs a boy. It's clearly shown that a same sex duo can't pilot a Franxx (what the mechs are called in this), there's a lot of talk about a bird that needs its opposite sex partner to fly otherwise it's…

No Short Recap, i dont really feel like doing one for this show Art - 8/10 Animation is good, character models are good, CG if used is alright, Very trigger esk easily the high point of this show. Characters 2/10 i hate 90% of characters, there is probably 3 characters that are likeable and don't act childish, I can understand characters acting childish if they are done in a true way how children act but how they are portrayed in Darling In The Franxx is just annoying. Story 2/10 Story is boring, Basic and not unique, the most unique part of the story is when zero two turns into a spaceship. OSt/Sound Design - 5/10 Nothing special here, alot of shouting from the kids in the show that gets annoying, but ost is fine and the opening is a banger. Enjoyment - 5/10 I enjoyed the first hal…

This is not a review per se, rather a conservative essay masked as a review about the series. There are spoilers ahead. What is conservatism? Is it the worship of the ashes or the preservation of the fire? What is Darling in the FRANXX? Is it a glorified mecha or a cheap romance anime? And now, what does conservatism have to do with Darling in the FRANXX? It’s exactly the dystopian future where the fire has not been preserved and there are barely ashes to even be worshipped. A world ruled by an elite whose actual faces are not even seen at all, pulling the strings from a podium ordering what should be done and what should not. So it’s no coincidence that in 2018, conservatism is having its finest year since a few decades, and also one of the finest anime of the season, both have absolut…

Darling in the FranXX is best described as a failed experiment, although that might not be entirely true in the sense that it certainly achieved widespread appeal and amassed a considerable following of its own. Through my own viewing experience, I can surmise that there was in fact no other goal in mind. Darling in the FranXX feels like little more than a vapid and desperate attempt to harness the influence and legacy of other anime, and does so clumsily with seemingly no intent of creating its own identity. Much of its elements are thoughtlessly replicated from successful shows such as Evangelion and Gurren Lagann, without an understanding of what made these elements work in their own respective titles. It handles these elements so incredibly poorly and with such naivety that it could al…

I will keep this short. I feel like Darling is flawed, but still a very good show. The biggest issue at times is pacing feels off, which is subjective, but off compared to past series by Trigger or A1 it stands out. Then the other major issue is the conclusion felt rushed, as in things didn't finalize until the final 3 episodes. Referencing Kill La Kill, there were clear objectives from the start. That isn't the case here since it seemed like a survival show, but the main enemy changes as the show goes on. That is fine, but the issue is the true enemy and objective was rushed into the picture towards the end. That is my biggest flaw since the ending is good, and the final battle is good, but the final "villain" was rushed without much build up unlike past shows. That said, the strong sui…

So Darling in the Franxx is the first anime I've watched and is what made me love anime all together. No other anime I've watched so far can compare to Darling in the Franxx personally. The excitement I would get working on Saturdays to know that when i get home there would be a new episode was unforgettable. So without further ado, here is my review of the show. Story. The story for the show was very unique and i never heard anything like it but then again I'm still an anime noob. It has good progression and a pretty big twist here and there. Overall it was a thrilling story that will leave you on the edge of your seat on what will happen next. Art. The art for Darling in the Franxx is what caught my attention and made me start watching it. The characters, the places and the fight scene…

Darling in the FranXX is a great example of what two studios working together can bring, though in the later episodes it struggles with it story, it is still really enjoyable and with some amazing art, sound design and characters Story: 5/10 The main story is pretty interesting, it has shown us a mysterious world and a lot of things to figure out (that could get explained in the rest of the series), like why are there plantations, what has happened to the world, was the world always like this, what are the klaxosaurus, and most importantly, WHY ON EARTH ARE THE FRANXX PILOTED BY DRY HUMPING?!?!? , I have a small theory that I made myself, and that is one of the great things about this story, because it makes me believe that the intent of trigger is to provide viewers with a sense of pride…

Darling in the FranXX, the product of a partnership between the esteemed anime studios Trigger and A-1 Pictures, ended up being like a rollercoaster ride. The anime has many good things going for it, yet for every positive aspect of the show, I found that there seemed to be a negative to correlate with it. I was torn between writing a supportive assessment or a critical dissertation of the anime, so in the end, I thought why not write both? The following review is divided into two segments, one talking about the good characteristics of the anime, and the other discussing the bad. ______________________________ NEGATIVE NOTIONS WARNING: Contains spoilers and sarcasm Darling in the FranXX is an anime about a bunch of teens with problems who ride robots. Wow, how original! Well, at least…

Finally Darling in the FranXX is over. And I have a lot to say. Story (0.5/10) Never have I seen so much potential turn into so much shit. Darling in the FranXX was such an utter mess of a story that I gave more than enough chances to try and like it. First of all, it had a first half with no story, but even the second half had some story which felt like the writers had no idea what's going on. The pacing was horrendous since the final few episodes were incredibly rushed and before that, everything was moving so slow. And they didn't even know what kind of show this was. A drama? A serious scifi show? A slice of life? They tried to be everything and it was a clusterfuck. I tried to like it. But I couldn't. Characters (1/10) This cast was poorly handled. Hiro was a fine MC. Not bad…

Imagine a class of children hard at work. Each of them writing their stories to be seen and judged by their peers. Taking from their own lives, their own experiences while also paying tribute to those who came before them. In that climate there exists a weasel. A shrewd and sneaky brat who steals. Steals from those works of old that they so loved, leaning on them rather than building off them. On the day of presentation, their work is picked apart and scrutinized by those who adore those older works, and mocked for what original ideas they have. Angered, they march off to a younger crowd who, to their egocentric joy, eat up their work. Those who have never seen those works of old take the ideas here as something new, and think merely touching upon ideas rather than exploring them is praise…

Please note this review is intended for those that have finished watching Darling in the Franxx and while care has been taken to minimise spoilers there may still be spoilers within character analysis. You have been warned. As ever this review is based on my own impressions and thoughts upon the anime. A coming of age story where 10 teenagers fight to both protect their homes and their bonds of friendship and comradeship as they fight in a war where the truth may not be what it seems. Based off an original idea and concept Darling in the Franxx is a science fiction, mecha and romantic genre anime that also features elements of drama within it. Taking place in a futuristic setting that’s rarely seen within animes Darling in the Franxx gives us the opportunity to see the kind of life tha…

“How can I become popular?” Darling in the FranXX is a sad attempt at creating or rather, replicating a legacy act. It took inspiration from what popular shows like Evangelion and Gurren Lagann did, without understanding a thing about what made them work. It tries to expand on ideas without understanding how to sell them, let alone incorporate them meaningfully. It wants to craft a setting to draw us in and make us remember it but instead, FranXX falls flat on its hormone-driven face. It’s a brilliant showcase on why the insular nature of anime writers & directors is detrimental. It is the definition of an anime that tries to pander to the entire anime community, and as a result, FranXX lost the chance to craft a work of art worthy of being remembered. What we have now is a vulgar yet amb…

Like any original anime in the Gainax/Trigger family, Darling in the FranXX is one big idea put to form and animated with all due passion. It has been conceptualized as meticulously as you’d except from this line of creators, so you can just as easily pick it apart for days on end and still be fining new visual details, dialogues, or cuts of animation carrying some level of meaning or significance making attempts at your attention, because whether you hate ‘em or love ‘em, Gainax and Trigger have always produced such ambitious productions because they have something very specific to say which only their creative leads can articulate, and more importantly in this case, because they’re trying to deliver said message to a very certain someone hidden in the audience. Please know that Darling i…

[2.0/10] ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Art is born on a bed of nails. It comes from discomfort. A place that is the opposite of complacency. A wide-eyed child that cries in pain. It forms to fit a mold and that mold is then inducted into our society. Accepted for being palatable. Then you can look to a child that isn’t molded perfectly, one that deviates just enough from the norm to be appreciated by both societies’ most stern contributors as well as the rebellious cynics who are sick of the banal grind. Much like the television industry, contorting and fitting a mold is necessary to be accepted by the masses. Express yourself as you may, but at the end of the day if you aren’t employable then you may as well be wasting you…

4 Cups of Evangelion 2 tablespoons of granulated Gurren Lagann 1/4 teaspoon of Star Driver 1 dash of Beauty and the Beast And last, but not least. 69 metric tons of CRAP! (freshly steamed) In case it wasn’t obvious, these are the instructions for one serving of Darling in the FranXX. There is a tacit understanding in the anime industry, as well as the filming industry, that you are allowed to draw inspiration from other works, but not plagiarize said works. There are, of course, exceptions to this rule — particularly, in regards to satirical natured shows (Gintama and Inferno Cop, being the perfect examples) — however, solemn show’s dance on a very thin line, and must introduce innovative ideas to alter the perception on existing paradigms; otherwise, they come off as being cliched, and…

Before Darling in the Frankxx actually aired, I asked myself if Trigger could ever replicate the success of Kill la Kill. Remember that series back in 2013? Their debut show made a significant impact for anime fans all over the world. From then on, Trigger produced some questionable series like Kiznaiver but also reminded us that there are still golden eggs such as Little Witch Academia. Sometimes I still have to ask myself, what the hell is Darling in the Frankxx? To be fair, Darling in the Frankxx is actually a co-production between Trigger and A-1 Pictures. It’s an original TV anime that adheres to more of a humongous mecha show while mixing elements of drama, comedy, sci-fi, and absurdity. Oh wait, that’s not a genre, isn’t it? Well, you will probably understand the meaning of that la…

“What kind of fuckery is this?” Amy Winehouse. Well, folks, it’s finally time to talk about the most notorious anime of 2018. Darling in the Franxx. After the success of Little Witch Academia and Kill la Kill, as well as the unfortunate failure of Kiznaver Studio Trigger, decided to make Darling In The Franxx but with the help of A1 Pictures/Cloverworks. Like many others on the internet, I was really excited for Darling in the Franxx. Maybe that was my biggest mistake and like with Beatless, Black Clover and Re:Zero I was expecting too much. However, even if the anime had failed to live up to expectations the anime would be still be entertaining so bad it’s good to watch. Unfortunately Darling in the Franxx is not so bad it’s a good type of shows. In fact, Darling in the Franxx is by far…

For the better half of my life, I have been looking for an anime series where bunch of kids --who don't know what sexual intercourse is-- fight against tensai super robot power rangers inside settings which has plot for 6 episodes, but still lasts for 24: Filling the remaining air time with b-grade melodramatic past stories, and current time with slice of life soap opera which looks like the anime version of Jersey Shore. For such a specific request to be filled, I had almost lost all hope. Then my boy Trigger arrived to town and not only did this exact thing, but filled the series with epic symbolism. Basically, whenever anything happens, it is a sexual innuendo about relationships, hugging, kissing and dicks. Really, thanks. The actual story centers around our ten kids who are trying t…
