When I first watched Carole & Tuesday in 2019, my assessment was unremarkable. It was competent, neither especially impressive nor notably poor. Revisiting it several years later, however, in a period defined by the rapid normalisation of generative AI and algorithmically produced music, the series presents itself rather differently.
What once appeared to be a speculative premise now feels distinctly contemporary. Carole & Tuesday was among the earlier mainstream anime to pose a clear question: what happens when music production becomes almost entirely automated. In 2019 this functioned as a hypothetical concern. Today it…

I have no clue how this show is close to an 8. It is probably the worst anime about music that I have seen so far.
All songs are 4 verses repeated over and over, with a lot of these verses being a single word repeated multiple time.... yeah. And btw in this universe good song = high pitch.
Not only that the finale might be the cringiest thing in the world, somehow they predicted the covid actors singing *for all the people*, cause the last few episodes is literally just that.
Most of the show is not focused on music, but they have random pointless tangents like a dipshit being depressed over nothing, and people we dont care about being depressed over other stuff. Instead of showing us songs, they decided it is better to show the reaction to the songs from the producer, sounds like fun :…

Musical anime? More like a political crap.
Characters in this anime are white, black, brown, gay, lesbian, trans, hermaphrodite and mixed sexuality, but this isn't even a big problem.
Earth is in complete degrade and decline, so people started to live on Mars and built there a new society.
I wonder why things went bad on Earth.
Now immigrants starts coming to Mars and here is the political debate that doesn't belong to an musical anime, how black people are oppressed, how illegal immigrants should be accepted even if they are illegal, bla bla bla.
Even many songs are political centered.
Some songs are good, but overall the story is filled with political crap.

(SPOILER FREE - Review written from a Musician's POV)
Plot: 6/10
The anime was rather accurate in portraying the ugly and the good in the entertainment/music industry, so I really liked that! However, the relationship building between characters are either vague or underdeveloped. Characters' decisions are abrupt sometimes or do not make much sense, and that was mainly what I wasn't fond of story-wise.
Art: 7/10
The artstyle is pretty, but the animation is lacking quite a bit, I see way too many repeated frames sometimes and it threw me off just a little. Lip syncing, especially during singing, is very off. Loved how diverse the characters are though!
Music: 9/10
The music is what I loved most about this anime, naturally. The harmonies between the 2 MCs are absolutely BEAUTIFUL. I loved…

Geez, this one turned into a mess.
STORY:
Tuesday runs away from home because she feels suffocated or something. She finds Carole, the black girl, and they become a singing duo, blah blah blah. It's very "Hallmark" in many ways. The story is boring and there are many plot holes and dumb political bullshit that didn't need to be put in here. Clearly people don't like Trump, or at least these Japanese people dont and it shows. There's also dumb crap about how black people are oppressed on Earth because they can't come to Mars or some crap like that. It's really dumb BLM shit that shouldn't be in an anime about music.
ART:
Really good and the animation is fine, though I am not an expert on this at all so don't take my word for it.
SOUND:
Again, not an expert but seems fine to me. Some of t…

Carole and Tuesday was a lovely anime that kept my interest piqued throughout most of the series. I'm not a super picky anime watcher and I usually base my ratings off of personal enjoyment and how much I want to binge through the series I'm watching. I took my time with the first two episodes but after that I was pretty sold and binged the rest of the series decently fast. I have some points that stood out to me and they're completely unrelated to each other so I guess this review is going to be all over the place.
One thing that I think drew away from the flow of the series is that the second season bit off more than it could chew. There was a lot going on and a lot of points that they attempted to get across (views on politics, human rights, family dynamics etc.) which made everything…

The history is simple yet catch your atention the overall animation and design are pretty beauty but judging by the director previous works i expected more, the main problem in my point of view was the forced political agenda of the last episodes, After the candidate to the presidence of Mars express her desire to make stronger imigration policies and supposedly a kind of artistic sensorship those things start to happen in the main plot... how the "insert F word" a candidate has the power to make rules and laws befor get elected? too much political bs in a already ordinary narrative.

Freedom ain't worth shit if it's handed to you. Coming into Carole & Tuesday I was definitely stoked. Studio Bones, Shinichiro Watanabe at the helm and a music anime to boot. From finding one's own place in the world, to the lives of the oppressed and privileged, and to accomplishing your dreams. Let's delve deeper into Watanabe's latest effort.
Story-
We start off our story by seeing Tuesday take her luggage and guitar then running away from home. She sets off to the city, which might as well be a whole foreign planet to her. She blissfully explores it, meanwhile getting her luggage stolen, until she manages to stumble upon Carole playing on a bridge. The two hit it off almost immediately and end up living together, ultimately forming a music group together. Through the experiences a…

Carol & Tuesday is the new precedent when looking at music anime.
Honestly went into Carol & Tuesday randomly and I'm so glad I decided to pick it up. The story of underdog singers climbing up through the industry is really well done. The bond between Carol & Tuesday is great to experience and seeing them work together to create absolutely beautiful songs is sooo good. The series story gets surprisingly serious for a series about girls making songs but they manage to make it both serious and fun when need be and it doesn't ruin the experience but raises the stakes and it kept me engaged.
Love the entire cast of C&T. There honestly wasn't a single character I disliked which I'm happy to say. The entire cast is well presented and surprisingly realistic. Some of the later episodes in the s…

It’s sad to see negative reviews for such an outstanding anime, so here’s a positive review to hopefully convince all of you to watch it:
Carole & Tuesday is about two girls who dream of making it as singers in a world of AI music. With the help of Gus, Roddy, and others they meet along the way, they work to make their dream come true. However, that’s not all that goes on in this story. Setting: Mars, future (theory is that it takes place around the same time as Cowboy Bebop, 2071)
Story:
Carole and Tuesday’s motivation to not only be known, but also heard, is inspiring. They fight past many obstacles that stand in their way. One obstacle is sadly Tuesday’s mother, a politician who forbids her daughter from having the freedom she desires. I won’t get too into it because it’ll be a spoi…

Although I almost dropped the anime half-way through it, due to the slow pace of the story , I really enjoyed and appreciated the fact that they are putting so many controversial topics into the light and reinforcing the idea that love and compassion should be the key to a harmonious society. Really loved the songs created by Carole&Tuesday. In my opinion they reflect innocence, purity and true compassion for this world, especially the last song, Mother, it really touched by heart. The voice actors were amazing, especially the real singers behind each character. We need more animes like this to make our world a better place for the future generations.

Carole and Tuesday are supposed to be the collision of two worlds—as Crystal says, "Carole, a refugee, and Tuesday, Valerie's daughter" (Episode 24). But the two of them lose all individuality from the moment they team up. From then, they function as more of a unit than as two individual beings—their dialogue becomes entirely interchangeable.
Here is a conversation (Episode 5) in which the girls talk to Roddy. Can you tell who's saying what?
RODDY: Well, it's a gig, but it's just one song. Just a trial kind of thing.
???: Don't worry, that's just fine.
???: Hey, what song should we play?
???: Well... why don't we write a new one?
???: Good idea, let's do that.
RODDY: By the way, isn't it a little dark in here?
???: They still haven't turned the power on.
???: All right, let's do it outsi…

A short review of Carole & Tuesday.
Pros:
- Good use of music
- A variety of different music within the show
- Has inter-connecting story lines
Cons: - Often reused the same scene shots, which kinda took me out of it
- Art style wasn't really my taste
Middle ground issues:
- Decent but not amazing character development
- Animation was acceptable but not great
- Think the way it ends won't surprise anyone and might not make for a good show to re-watch after seeing the first time.
Conclusion:
Overall, I would recommend Carole & Tuesday. While not the best and doesn't really introduce anything that different to me. It's an enjoyable show and easy to watch. All the characters have development time in the show, which helps the show not get stuck on main two characters of Carole and Tue…

"When it comes to researching the human brain in order to control emotions using AI, music and politics are very much alike."
— Jerry Egan
It's been fifty years since humans colonized Mars. Cities akin to Tokyo and New York are populated with first and second generation natives and an array of immigrants from Earth. Technology crowds every facet of life. From streets to homes, an android or robot pet is commonplace. Thanks to artificial intelligence, people don’t have to burden with working, thinking, or even creating anymore. "99% of modern hits are produced by AI," a record producer tells an up-and-coming idol. Doing anything without a technological assist is an oddity.
There are still people who prefer doing things the old-fashioned human way. Tuesday Simmons, a 17-year old from the l…

*potentially vague and mild spoilers for a show I don’t recommend*
Carole and Tuesday is an empty shell. It’s fundamentally at odds with itself as well, given the narrative of the show and the contemporary feel it oozes in every direction. You can smell the corporate in the air here, which is probably the most bizarre thing to say given that this is a Shinichiro Watanabe anime. The man responsible for stylish classics such as Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo is one of the main people who crafted something that’s at the crossroads of trends from both the popular anime industry and the popular music industry. That sounds epic until you realize that both industries are formula and trend chasers, meaning this show is the culmination of all that. It certainly hits home with the American crowd…

Imagine, if you will, a moment of bliss. The dazzling array of lights illuminating the hall, radiating along the stage. Glimmering golden flakes floating down from above like snow upon two girls pouring their hearts out in the performance of their lives. Their eyes are transfixed on the spectacle of it all as the narrator bellows that “it would go down in the history of Mars as the miraculous seven minutes”. This is the moment that Carole & Tuesday wished to define itself by. A celebration of music and the power it holds consummated in seven special minutes.
But behind these seven minutes is the journey that set it all in motion.
Carole & Tuesday is a tale steeped in the past, now set in the gleaming terraformed future of Mars. The story of rags-to-riches between a pair of talented women…

TL;DR: Futuristic Cowboy Bebop mixed with Kids on the Slope sprinkled with some Nana and a whole lot of wackiness from Space Dandy to give you the new hit, Carole & Tuesday. Seriously, it's just like wrapping yourself in a blanket by a fireplace and drinking hot-choco while enjoying some lo-fi music and falling asleep while watching this anime... Except you don't fall asleep.

If this show ended after the first cour it would’ve been 9/10. I haven’t seen an anime fall apart in the second half so badly since Aldnoah.Zero.
So, the first half of the series has its titular heroines pursuing their dream of creating music. They face the many challenges of an aspiring musician, meet industry people, cross paths with crazy fans, but also with Angela - a corporate-manufactured instant hit which serves as their foil - etc, etc. The first cour culminates with them getting a big break. So, where would you think the story will go from there? Suffering from success? Having to sell your soul to a record label? Maybe a falling out between the leads? Well, if your answer is “2016 election do-over and fighting FemTrump’s anti-immigration agenda with the power of music” - hi, you…

With nearly three decade span of experience, Shinchiro Watanabe once again takes the stage as a director for a new original anime project. It’s well known that Shinchiro Watanabe’s Cowboy Bebop managed to garner an international audience and achieved universal success. Carole & Tuesday won’t likely have the same level of success but the premise is worth to think about. Considering that there’s not many 2-cour music-drama these days, the idea of Carole & Tuesday sounds like a refreshing experience.
The first time we see Carole and Tuesday is two characters with different backgrounds and personalities. It’s easy to get the image of these two girls into your head as the main characters thanks to their contrasting images. Carole has a cool, rebellious type of look while Tuesday is designed wi…

Be it for better or worse, 2019 is not over yet, but after taking an effort to analyze much of the upcoming Fall lineup, I don’t think it is at all early to claim I have found the single worst anime of the year already. While you may be able to gravely fault things like either second season of One Punch Man or Kemono Friends for being an insult to the creatives behind previous seasons, and while you may also be able to do something similar for Arifureta Shokugyō de Sekai Saikyō for serving as an exceptional low point in the production quality of modern TV animation, you’d be hard pressed to find something as bad as Carole & Tuesday which is as terrible as it is on its own creative rights. While anyone over the age of fourteen has probably long since resolved Studio Bones to the vaults of t…
