Wave, Listen to Me!

Wave, Listen to Me!

Introduction

Restaurant worker Minare Koda has recently been through a bad breakup. Heartbroken and drunk after a night out, she rants about her misery to a complete stranger—Kanetsugu Matou, a radio station director local to Sapporo, Hokkaido. The next day at work, Minare is shocked to hear a recording of herself from the previous night playing over the radio. Flustered, she rushes to the radio station in a frenzy to stop the broadcast. As she confronts Matou, a chain of events leads to her giving an impromptu talk live on air, explaining her savage drunken speech. With her energetic voice, she delivers a smooth dialogue with no hesitation, which Matou recognizes as raw talent. Minare soon becomes a late-night talk show host under Matou's direction, covering amusing narratives set in Sapporo, all while balancing her day job and personal life to make ends meet. This is a show that I believe could have been a 9 or close to a 10 if the side characters had any depth to them. As it stands, only the main character shows any willingness or ability to grow as a person. There is one other character that showed signs of potential growth, but the writers didn't give them enough of a chance in this season. Every other character is 1 dimensional at best and that is generous for some characters. What makes this anime great is the premise and story, which are exceptionally unique and well-written. The series takes the intimate yet limited concept of radio and audio-only communication and breathes an extra dimension of life into it. Whether it is used for comedy, a distraction, comfort, or information, Nami yo Kiitekure plants the passions and hard work of tho…

i am quite surprised that none of my anime-loving friends have mentioned this anime, especially since it came out last year. this has been like a breath of fresh air with all of the fantasy-based stuff i've been watching. i really enjoyed this anime for the fact that it's super unique from what i've seen so far. an anime about a radio host? where have you seen that done already? the humor that the main character brings to this show is hilarious and goes to show how creative a person's mind can be with how quickly she jumps to conclusions and is able to come up with stories for her air-time. the side-characters' stories are also interesting and aren't just thrown in there for the hell of it. but yet they help further the story of the anime as a whole. honestly, i would recommend thi…

I really feel like I needed to make a review for this series. STORY:7 the main reson I didn't rate this higher is due to the lack of finish off the plot and character development. I guess when I went into this anime I had seen a youtube review of it , and what i got from it was girl does a radion show. I liked the girls personaloity so I watched it. was hooked from episode one. In a way I feel like it focused to much on the main protagonists (minore) ex boyfriend. I started wondering about hlaf way through will there be another chapter of her romantic interests?? ehhh I'm starting to ramble a bit (just like the show :) I tried explaining the plot to a friend and found it really hard to describe in an interesting way... IDK but i think that kinda sums up how I feel about the story... It i…

This anime is like every shade of bizarre and it's so my vibe. It goes from hilarious references from pop culture to full-blown horror and suspenseful thriller out of the blue while maintaining a roughly reasonable sequence of events. To make things even better, the plot is very mature and calls out quite relatable romantic and career problems. The very first thing that caught my attention, besides distinctive and aesthetically pleasing animation, is the main character. I can not stop telling you how real-life believable I find her. She is far from acute, wise, and pure traditional representation of women in anime. Minade Koda is a headstrong, lively, smart, and brave young woman, but also sometimes insensitive, obnoxious, and too quick to conclusions. All this makes her believable human…

This is a story of confidence, self-worth and learning to love your life again. It also was the complete opposite of what I was expecting. The characters blend elegantly into one another's lives, with complex relationships and emotions between them, and the protagonist's growth in particular is wonderful to watch. Using radio in an anime is a wonderful idea, and showing the brilliance of radio dramas is what Wave, Listen to Me! does so well. The series perfectly intertwines reality and fiction, leaving the viewer to interpret the true meaning, while also showing appreciation to those working behind the scenes, in areas such as sound design and mixing. A worthwhile series, I'd recommend this to anyone looking for something a little bit different to add to their watchlist.

Nami yo Kiitekure's first few episodes were actually brilliant. I really like how the animation manages to pair well with the Radio narration of our protagonist. Sure, Radio shows only use audio, but Nami yo Kiitekure managed to make a decent visualization on all the scenarios that Minare manages to make up during the show's airing. Plus, the anime has surprisingly good production value when it comes to animation. It's rare to see radio entertainment being done, usually the entertainment industry anime are limited to idol groups or very infrequently, acting. I'm not a big fan at all of idol group anime, so it's nice to see a show that has the entertainment industry as a focus. It's not just the industry that's different, though. Nami yo Kiitekure definitely has a more seinen and slice of l…

For a romance anime, this is a 9/10. It has a definite ending which leaves the user fully satisfied. The romantic interests are fully valid and viable. There is a realism to it which keeps the viewer watching. For a slice of life anime, this is a 10/10. I felt fully absorbed and represented as a 20-something woman with bad luck in work and love. The only nitpick here is that there is some anti-gay sentiment, but even that is handled nicely with some pro-LGBT and some anti-LGBT. It's mere coincidence that the MC is anti. For an action/adventure anime, this is maybe a 7/10. Although the adventure and combat aspects are well done and add to the story, they are not so spectacular that they could carry themselves as anime shorts. For a comedy anime, this is a 10/10. The slapstick nature of i…

I'm so genuinely conflicted about this show. On the one hand, I can't really say I didn't enjoy it. I found it entertaining enough, I liked the majority of the characters the majority of the time, and I generally didn't find myself bored. But, at the same time, I have this weirdly lukewarm feeling about it. Going in, I thought it might be a few things. A semi-serious drama, a romance with a decent gimmick, even just a wild, oddball comedy. But the character drama was rarely there and rarely played seriously, there wasn't any real emphasis or development on character relationships, and while it definitely has a charming humour about it, I also can't say I laughed all that much. Ultimately, I feel like this show was fine. I enjoyed it fine, but I have no strong feelings about it, with th…

No-Spoiler Short Review: Pros and Cons. - Pros (+): Can I just say that this is amazing? It's so weird but the author leads you into thinking very badly about any kind of circunstance that you may encounter in this series. The main could be annoying but you can't help loving her because she's so spontaneous and that's what makes her interesting as a DJ. There isn't a doppelganger effect with the character's designs, each one has a distinct personality and marking features in their physical appearance, voices, clothing, etc. It may be silly but it shows the dedication it was given. A proper anime for adults. - Cons (-): It didn't have an amazing OST to back this up and it was too ephemeral. Too short, guys! Only 12 episodes and the manga isn't even finished.

Radio's quite an old technology, and as a mere human who's probably still hatching into adulthood I'd say that radios aren't really my type of thing. I rarely listen to them and when I do it's mostly from stupid reasons such as my father opening it inside his car or when there's somehow a radio lying about near my present designation. Still, does disliking radio really affect my perspective towards an anime which is essentially, ultimately about radio broadcasting? The answer is, of course, totally obvious, a straight "No". Heck, I actually laughed a lot whilst watching Wave, Listen to me. The concept of making a radio broadcast an anime already piqued my interest ever since I set my eyes on it. I despise radios, but at the same time I also enjoy watching the adult industrial anime kind…

Each season, each year, a new anime comes out on a totally random subject that has never interested many people before We had iceskating, fashion, painting ... And this season, we have the world of radio! We encounter Minare, a woman with a strong temperament, in her desperate fight to survive in Sapporo, capital of Hokkaido (well, it's rare that an anime sets in this region! But ... there is no snow ?! Is it really Hokkaido if there is no snow? Did I have been lied to? I need a refund!) Story: 6/10 The story is a bit of the weakness of this anime On paper, it's a fairly classic slice of life that follows a person's life. There are of course twists and turns, but it remains very flat and fairly banal (even if the ambience of the last episode is pretty unique) Art: 9/10 And here we go t…

Nami yo Kiitekure, or Wave, Listen to Me! Come on guys, listen to her, she's pretty good. Spoiler warning, of course. Alright, let's kick this review off by saying I love this, I love this show so much. First off, my first impression of this show wasn't too high if I'm going, to be honest. I knew it was about radios and DJ stuff but I wasn't expecting to get so much more from just that. Of course, it's not just that it's the characters and writing as well that really just compliments the main concept of 'radio DJ'. I heard about this Radio drama when I actually went to Japan myself but I never knew that this was a big thing in Japan. I am intrigued and interested at the same time. Of course, hearing that this show is something out of the norm of anime, I had to check this one out and t…

STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND READ THIS REVIEW AAAAAAHAHAIRYCAMOMRGMASRGMOIWRGMLMASFMTEJA Sorry, after seeing Minare scream into a microphone I wanted to try it for myself. I don't know if I have the same stage presence as her but hopefully I caught your attention XD So this anime is pretty great. I'm going to jump right into what is so good about it. I absolutely love the concept. It's so wacky and strange and bizarre but is executed so effortlessly that it makes for an awesome anime. There aren't too many emotional moments which I think works for this anime. It makes for less of an anime that tugs at your heartstrings and more of an anime that just takes your breath away. I think another huge part of what makes Nami yo Kiitekure so great is the characters. Nobody falls into clichés or ster…

It’s such a shame to see this series is not getting as much attention as it deserves for it’s a very solid adaptation of one of my current favorite on-going manga. People mainly know of Hiroaki Samura due to Blade of the Immortal and his penchant for ryona as seen in other works of his like the infamous Bradherley's Coach and his art book that’s not so subtly named The Love of the Brute. Wave, Listen to Me on the other hand, is a comedy about working in broadcasting (among other things) and is thus a major departure from his usual dark and twisted works. As such, while Blade mostly showcased Samura’s skill as an artist, Wave is the work that showcased not only Samura’s skills as an artist but more importantly, also as a writer, what his sense of humor is like and what are the influences on…

Nami yo Kiitekure or Wave, Listen to Me! another very unique anime adapted from the manga whose original creator, Samura, Hiroaki has conceptualize it from his twisted mind, that is if you had observes some of his works . As spring 2020 ends and summer 2020 begins, you could say that this is one of the best anime for this season given that studio "Sunrise" has chosen this to be giving an anime adaptation, especially when we're present with something good on the table. so how do I rate this: Story- Good 8: I did said that "we're presented with something good on the table", well, having a woman be this hard knock radio DJ who talks about anything under the sun was something else, when it involves a woman like Minare who basically was you typical loud mouth kind of woman that you would have…

We had anime & seiyuu life now radio life~! Minase Koda's life is going through a rollercoaster and it only gets rockier as she somehow gets a radio director for her to have her own radio show since she's is extremely talkative about her private life, everything from her job to her love life, now her undertaking a radio job all under that whilst juggling everything else, this is Nami yo Kiitekure. For the most part, Nami yo Kiitekure's story focus is mainly on our narrative focus and main character Minare Koda a person that talks before thinking but it THAT that is both the charm of this anime as well as her surrounding herself in her hectic life she puts herself in, from her oblivious feelings for Chuuya Nakahara voiced by Masaaki Yano, Yoshiki Takarada voiced by Bin Shimada, the owner…

As we get older, it becomes harder to relate to the generic high school romance series with characters getting embarrassed and squealing at every single remotely sexual or romantic thing that happens. While I am a big fan of those types of stories, it’s nice to get something that adults and working people can relate to. Nami Yo Kiitekure is just that and is easily in my top 4 shows of Spring 2020. The series follows Minare, who is fresh off a break up and contemplating her next steps in life. After a series of events Minare begins working an early morning shift at a local radio station doing hilarious radio dramas. The show revolves around her growing into her position as a radio host as well as her realistic relationships with coworkers and friends. What particularly resonates with me…

In keeping with this show’s ranting, alcohol-fueled radio show motif, I thought I’d get drunk, record myself reviewing this show verbally, and then transcribe it into a MAL review unedited, so enjoy seeing just how much of a hack I am without the extensive editing I usually put into my writing. I censored names and stuff which I wouldn’t typically put in my reviews, but otherwise the following is raw and unscripted. In advance, thank you for reading. ——— So you’ll always expect a show which, either, is very esoteric and appeals to a small number of people and/or a show which is super high-minded and “deep” about stuff—you’ll always expect those shows to have a much lower score than they deserve…assuming they deserve a high score. Because, again, they’re just so niche that, to the averag…

Someone wake me up from this weird dream because I feel like I entered the Twilight Zone. Watching Nami yo Kittekure (Wave, Listen to Me!) is perhaps one of the most bizarre yet exhilarating experiences I’ve had this year. At the heart the show is about a woman named Minare Koda, who is dealing with a breakup with her ex-boyfriend. After an incident with an older man from a drunken night, her voice becomes an icon and she enters a world she’s never began to imagine before. Welcome to a world where voices expressionism is an icon and sensation. That being said, Nami yo Kittekure translates into a comedy-drama story with windows for romance and unorthodox storytelling. I say this it’s unorthodox because this show blends a variety of genres together that makes it very special. Let’s face so…

Nami yo Kiitekure, which I’ll be calling “Wave” for short, is quite the sleeper in my books. If it weren’t for such unprecedented times and the resultant cancellation of shows from Spring 2020’s catalog, Wave could have quite easily fallen by the wayside, hovering under a MAL score of 7 for its first few episodes. And what a sad scenario that would have been, as Wave has been a refreshing experience through and through. Here’s my (mostly) spoiler-free thoughts on Wave and why I think this show is most certainly worth your time. Wave is told from the perspective of the fast-talking Minare Koda, a cynical woman struggling to make ends meet. She works at a curry shop in town with a gay* manager who’s clearly only keeping her around for cheap labor, has a hard time keeping her apartment’s lan…
