Introduction
In the early 21st century, Earth has come under threat from giant comets. In response, the United Nations institutes the Cosmic Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) and establishes a two-part defense program. Taking off from orbital stations, spacecraft launch specialized missiles to intercept and break up the threatening celestial objects, while fighter jets back on Earth deal with the remaining fragments. Competition among the pilots is fierce, as everyone wants to be one of the highly regarded Comet Blasters in space instead of the Meteor Sweepers on airbases.
Although from an esteemed lineage of pilots, recruit Mikaze Honjou finds the path to become a Comet Blaster arduous, which only results in her neglecting her studies. However, after a successful mission with her friends—Karin Kikuhara, Shizuha Doi, and Ayamo Nakamura—Mikaze rediscovers her motivation and sets out to make it through the training with the others.

Review – Stratos 4
I watched Stratos 4 a long time ago, back when I was diving into the yuri world, desperately looking for a good sapphic anime — which, let’s be honest, is hard to find. I stumbled upon this one by chance and, for some reason, thought it was yuri. It had all the signs: a group of girls living together, some tension in the air, and even a moment that almost led to a kiss... but it wasn’t what I expected. To be blunt: the anime isn’t very good. And I usually enjoy almost everything I watch. The animation is average, the pacing is slow, and the episodes feel like they go nowhere. It was hard to get through — I nearly dropped it. Things only picked up near the end, with some decent action and a plot twist that, honestly, was the one thing that saved it.
In the end, I…

The plot happens in the not far off future when Earth always faces danger from rain of meteors. To fight this, a team of young and good-looking ladies called Comet Blasters is made. Their mission is to stop the big rocks falling from space before they can hurt anyone or anything. The tale is about four girls, called Shizuha, Ayamo and Karin. They are working to be Meteor Sweepers - a team that takes care of the pieces left behind after big stars break into smaller ones. Everyone wants to be a Comet Blaster, but only the top Meteor Sweepers are allowed for tests.
Mikaze, who has a family of pilots, is getting lots of pressure to do well. Even though at first she has skills like other people, later she becomes a top pilot when things get bad. But, her careless flying can sometimes put other…

Stratos 4 is a fun Sci-Fi series focusing mainly on Honjo Mikaze’s struggle to first find her way and then with the other members of her Meteor Sweeper team, realize their dreams. Throughout the anime, humor abounds as well as drama, government conspiracies and plenty of fan service. Attention to technical details is top-notch. A majority of the aircraft and spacecraft are not out of this world, brand new hardware but are retrofitted cold-war era American and Soviet designs. This quite closely mirrors what may actually happen in reality, where we faced with the same situation. That being said, Stratos 4 is neither deep nor hard to understand, it’s there for the fun with a good helping of some light drama and some of the best art direction and animation I’ve seen in a TV series.
