Uncle from Another World

Uncle from Another World

Introduction

After a fatal encounter with a truck, Takafumi Takaoka's uncle, Yousuke "Ojisan" Shibazaki, lies comatose for 17 years. When he finally regains consciousness, Ojisan begins to ramble in a foreign tongue and reveals that he had been transported to a magical world called Gran Bahamal. Takafumi dismisses his uncle's claims as nonsense until an incantation makes a cup of water hover in the air. In a flash of brilliance, the pair creates a YouTube channel to showcase Ojisan's magical abilities. The responsibility now falls on Takafumi's shoulders to acquaint Ojisan with everything that has transpired during his absence, including getting him up to speed with the internet, new technology, and surprisingly, the outcome of the '90s console war—the result of which was especially distressing for a hardcore SEGA fan. With Ojisan's wisdom from his other world experiences, they grow their YouTube channel and tackle online comments and trolls. The journey of this uncle-nephew duo promises to be anything but conventional. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

This was a interesting watch. It's essentially a watch party of the nephew and his friend following the uncle fantasy stories (which he experienced in his "isekai" hospitalized period). Are fantasies more fake if it's being told over a screen, over another screen? It's quite a refreshing take, though my interests in the anime fluctuate across episodes, I think I quite like it. Its comedy can be tropey, random, niche at times, it's for people who can't hold grudges against failed attempts at comedy to enjoy it, I guess. Though I think it has some really good jokes such as turning into the teacher during the debate. I feel the characters are the representation of tropes itselves, which feels distinctive but also feels extreme that can give out-of-touch vibes making it impossible to care de…

This anime is absolutely a joy to watch with its deadpan humor, over the top imbecility and (sometimes) decent animation, so I was shocked to read through the reviews and find out there wasn't much love and excitement for a sequel as I would've hoped. Some reviews are are very off the mark with their very deep judging - at this point I shouldn't be shocked. MAL continues to be the definite internet pitstop for teenage pseudo-intellectualism. Anime used to be the medium that celebrated difference, explosiveness, excentricism and everything that mainstream media wasn't. Growing up as someone who was not excentric by any stretch of the imagination, it was actually a weird culture for me to be (partly) part of, as I didn't see myself reflected on any of the people who were into the medium as…

Ok, here we go for the nineteenth time: Characters: -Principals: The only thing special there is the uncle-nephew relationship (5/7). -Secondaries: I love them in spite of everything (2/3). Logic: (Tolerance for being a comedy anime). Those who haven't seen the anime should prepare themselves for almost nonsensical scenes like seeing the main characters transforming into “dragons”. (7/10) Entertainment (Personal): There were only 2 episodes that I felt the plot moved forward in a rushed manner; but I loved the rest of the episodes.(9/10) The basics in an anime: -Animation: I think for scoring in this section I looked more at the waifus (2/2). -Music: In my opinion, one of the best OP of an isekai anime if I compare it with others according to music and animation. (1/2) -Vice: It's a g…

I didnt expect much but at least had some hope that would be at least around average or slightly above and i was right... It will give you a couple laughs here and there but nothing more than that While Isekai Ojisan offers a unique twist on the isekai genre, its reliance on humor and character interactions over action or world-building may not be for everyone. The pacing can feel slow at times, and the focus on comedy and slice-of-life elements might not hold the interest of seeking a more dynamic or action-packed story. Although the dynamic between Ojisan and Takafumi adds some charm, the series lacks the depth and excitement many expect from an isekai, making it an enjoyable but ultimately average experience. A solid 6/10, worth watching if you’re a fan of laid-back humor, but not a…

This is a story about an uncle who comes from another world according to the title. Reminding those who want to watch this anime, don't take the isekai in this story too seriously. Although there are tsundere characters, isekai characters, isekai powers, unique abilities, because some story is filled with humor. I like this kind of story because it is very entertaining and makes me laugh. I really enjoy it from the beginning to the end of the episode filled with funny stories, funny dialogues, funny characters. Main characters Ojisan and Takafumi managed to make me very entertained in every episode. some unexpected plots also make the story even better. Other characters like Fujimiya, Elf, Mabel, Alicia and her party also help the story become more interesting and of course there are many…

I think this is hilarious! I thought it would just be a typical isekai anime. It's not so badass or anything like that... it does have abit of slice of life vibe. However his stories of his past is what makes it interestingly funny. The MC is someone easily misunderstood, even though his face is creepy and the way he reacts is creepy like a perv that he might deserve a slap in the face. But those who know him, he is actually a kind and respectful person, more like an innocent geek who does things which he's not supposed to because he is really dense. As the story progresses you start to see more of his past stories, which the mc made it sound like it was nothing, but it was actually a big deal. And when the mc made it sound like a big deal, it was actually nothing. You can actually feel t…

Well, I don't really watch much of the Isekai genre because I find most of them usually very boring, but this one is on another level. First of all, it's a comedy with very clever writing. It's a story about uncle that was transported to another world, but he wasn't all powerful at first.... he was considered as an orc in that world and was sold for a 3 coins that is equal to 0,3 yen (I don't really remember the exact price, but you got it). Further more, many funny things continued to happening with him and after 17 years he was transported back to the real life, and he...... yeah... can use magic in the real world, but he need to use Japanese now to make it work instead of the language that he was used in the Isekai world. He got along with his nephiew and now they are living in the apar…

The label "Isekai" has become synonymous with " it gets me an anime deal" in Japan or something; because without it, this series would have not gotten one. This series was so bad that the TV network had to lie about the delays to protect the studio. Reflecting on the title, if you change the title to: "I Found Out My Uncle is a Wizard," absolutely nothing changes. The adventures in the "other world" could easily be substituted with mundane occurrences from the uncle's life as a young wizard, and the impact would remain unchanged. It's a missed opportunity for meaningful storytelling and a disappointing execution of a potentially intriguing concept.

Isekai has been a scourge on the anime landscape for some time now and sadly shows no signs of slowing down. I'm not a fan, as you can tell, as for me, in 90%+ of cases if the story was just a normal fantasy world without the intruder from another world, it would be better for it. Not to mention that so much of this crap gets made that it all just melds into this homogenous blob of off-brand European fantasy, generic protagonists and proposterous titles. So hearing that Isekai Ojisan exists as a comedy series that turns the genre on its head and does something completely different? Now you have my attention. So the premise is that Ojisan here gets put into a come and isekai'd to a fantasy world where he goes on some wacky adventures. However, he eventually wakes up from his coma and gets…

This show snatched defeat from the jaws of the passable. It is a HUGE disappointment. Initially, the uncle and nephew's banter was pretty good, and the uncle in general was hilarious. I enjoyed having a different perspective on the classic garbage isekai story up until episodes 5ish: halfway through the show I fully internalized that it is not a slow burn towards the uncle's self-actualization or part of his journey to perhaps return, or bring his companions to his world, but is instead a watch party for a boring story about a man refusing to grow up. Is this perhaps a commentary on garbage isekai? Certainly there is dialogue to support this interpretation. Does this make the garbage isekai any better? Not really. The increased focus on the "adventures" and the lack of follow-through on…

This series was really fun, but the production schedule + airing dates for it were so drawn out and confusing that watching it as it came available caused me to forget about it completely so it's taken me until now to finally get around to finishing it. Of course that's not at all helped by this being a Netflix anime in the US, which is probably one of the last place I go to get my anime. Plot-wise I found this series pretty entertaining, but I was really hoping for a reunion between Uncle and his former Isekai pals towards the end somehow... we need to get Elf reverse isekai'd for him. The extremely niche sega jokes would probably be funnier if I knew what they were talking about, but good lord, there's limits to how under the radar you can go with your referential humor. All in all, ve…

This anime is a great combination of comedy, fantasy, and ecchi genres. It has a lot of funny and fanservice scenes that will make you laugh out loud. The interactions between Takafumi and his uncle are amusing and entertaining. The uncle is a diehard SEGA fan who uses his gaming skills to fight in the other world, but he is also clueless about modern technology and culture. Takafumi is a normal guy who is interested in his uncle’s adventure and the girls he met in the other world, but he also has to deal with his own problems and feelings. The characters are all charming and unique, each with their own personality and backstory. The animation is colorful and smooth, and the voice acting is superb. The opening and ending songs are catchy and fit the mood of the show. I recommend this ani…

Well, the series finally finished. It's difficult when you're covering comedy because comedy will hit differently for different people, though I guess that's true of drama to some extent, at least if we're talking about the really sad stuff. All that is to say that, yeah, this got a few chuckles out of me, but it still felt pretty one-note throughout. That's not a bad thing because it's a pretty good note - I like the idea that we're catching up with an isekai protagonist after he's returned to his world, and that he retains his powers. It's silly and fun, and the side characters are the ones who really make it work, from the titular uncle's (Yousuke's) nephew and his friend in Japan to the tsundere that is Suzailgiererzegalnelvzegilreagranzelga Elga (yes, that's Elf's full name) to Mabel,…

It's kind of funny, I guess? I'm heavily biased towards the show just because it's comedy, but the way the story is structured just sets it up for failure. If it weren't for the fact that I enjoy the genre, it'd certainly not be worth watching. The execution isn't particularly stunning, but it was definitely good at some points. The problem with Isekai Ojisan is the fact that this show is split into a "real world" story and the "isekai" story. Most, if not all of the funny parts of the story are in the isekai one. The show and author are also aware of this. The real world is only there to provide as tsukkomi on the events happening in the fantasy world. In the beginning, the happenings all happen in the real world. Ojisan is recovering from his many years of being away from modern civiliz…

Story: 2 Animation: 5 Sound: 5 Characters: 4 Enjoyment: 2 Total: 3 Isekai Ojisan is an Reverse-Isekai that fails to be a Reverse-Isekai, while simultaneously fails to be an Isekai. In general, this Anime is about a mid-30s person who wakes up from being in another world while transferring all his magic powers back to Earth via a blessing of god. The uncle in question then moves into his nephews apartment where they watch his Isekai-Hijinx via Magic-Memory-TV. And the direction chosen from the premise was doomed to fail to hold interest. The Isekai portion is not interesting at all as we already know the outcome of everything: He returns to Earth. That is literally the hook. So for the rest of the show, the frame, and the Reverse-Isekai portion, it attempts to be a comedy. But the comed…

Isekai Ojisan Do you like or dislike Isekai? Are you a fan of comedies? Do you want to laugh at nonsensical and stupid jokes? Are you partially familiar with Sega? Then this anime is exactly what you have been looking for. This anime is immensely simple but manages to convince with its straightforward humor and insanely stupid scenes. Although I was skeptical at first, this anime proved me wrong. Of course, it should be said that this is entirely comedy, there is no development or story. Each episode consists of 2 different stories of Uncle, which he can project through his memory television. In this way he shows the other 2 protagonists', stories from the Isekai world, leaving the 3 of them to act merely as commentators. What makes the whole thing however amusing, is that his experien…

In a nutshell, Isekai Ojisan is mid. Is it good? Comedically, yes, it is. Is it good beyond that? No, its mid. I've seen praises like " As good as Konosuba or even better". Just no, get off the pipe. I've seen people say the same thing about trash anime like Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu. Everyone wants the next Konosuba, I get it, but no isekai has even come remotely close to dethroning it, comedically speaking. Did I enjoy Isekai Ojisan, yes, but like so many other isekai lately, it goes nowhere, it has zero stakes. There are no baddies, it's just story telling for 13 episodes, okay cool, when did anime become so absent of basic plotline that adventure anime should have, like Konosuba has, like Slime has, like Re Zero has. The powerhouses of this genre are on top because they actuall…

SEGA fans are a dedicated bunch. Even with their exit from console manufacturing, you'll still see dedicated SEGA fans who will passionately gush about their favorite games everywhere. Isekai Ojisan is a beautiful show borne from this passion, and, despite its many delays, manages to pull through with a stunningly fresh take on the Isekai genre. Isekai Ojisan is 2 shows in one. On one part, you get a pretty comfy Slice of Life on a SEGA fan, who Isekai'd before the Dreamcast came out, and his nephew as they run a Youtube channel. The other half is said SEGA fan, his nephew and nephew's friend watching his exploits in Isekailand in a commentary type fashion. For as long as the Isekai genre has gone on, this has got to be the freshest take on it I've ever seen. For one, the MC actually retu…

A gloomy boy glances at his phone before crossing the street, unyielding to and unaware of the truck speeding towards him. Experience has led viewers to believe that the boy is fated to live on in another world, blessed with special powers and surrounded by sexy ladies. The scene cuts away, only to show the boy unharmed and the truck innocent. Alas, this story isn’t about the boy. It’s about his previously comatose uncle, who actually *did* get hit by a truck 17 years prior (and experienced all the aforementioned shit). That motherfucker is awake now. And oh boy does he have a story to tell… What Isekai Ojisan does best is subverting the viewers’ expectations in a genuinely amusing way. Every few months, I hear something about an isekai that “breaks the mold”, only to usually see for myse…

Oh man, this might be the anime that is noteworthy of the worst production values of all time. Not the way that the anime was presented, but of the behind-the-scenes horror that's just as, if not even worse than some of the AniManga industry's corporations (i.e. Aniplex) with the outsourcing production mayhem and the "We blame China for COVID" PR disaster that had the show delayed numerous times. Plus, the fact that this was ONLY released on Netflix, and you can already tell that Isekai Ojisan, while undoubtedly a great show, is the pinnacle of unprecedented levels of a disaster in the making. The term "Isekai" has been around for more than a decade since the days when SAO made huge waves to make it known as the pioneer batch to kickstart the trend of adaptations that we'll come to see in…
