Lycoris Recoil

Lycoris Recoil

Introduction

The number of terrorist acts in Japan has never been lower, thanks to the efforts of a syndicate called Direct Attack (DA). The organization raises orphaned girls as killers to carry out assassinations under their "Lycoris" program. Takina Inoue is an exceptional Lycoris with a strong sense of purpose and a penchant for perfection. Unfortunately, a hostage situation tests her patience, and the resulting act of insubordination leads to her transfer out of DA. Not thrilled about losing the only place she belonged to, she reluctantly arrives at her new base of operations—LycoReco, a cafe in disguise. Takina's new partner, however, turns out to be quite different from what she imagined. Despite being the famed Lycoris prodigy, Chisato Nishikigi appears almost unconcerned with her duties. She drags Takina along on all kinds of odd jobs under the simple explanation of helping people in need. Takina is even more puzzled when Chisato takes down a group of armed assailants without killing any of them. Feeling like a fish out of water, Takina itches to get reinstated into DA—but Chisato is determined to prove to her that there is more to a life than just taking them. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Easy entertainment, so long as you don't think too hard about it. This show is basically the anime version of a summer blockbuster. Weak plot, shallow characters, cute girls, explosions, guns, appeals to woke culture by having all the heroes be girls and all the villains be boys, insert obligatory black character who looks like every other anime black character, add a "Lolita" adult who looks and acts like a child to appease the pedos, mix that all together and what do you get? Cotton candy! Light, fluffy, colorful, sugary, 99% air. For most people, it's all they need and they'll have a delightful time. If you're looking for substance, though, you'll find this show wanting.

Wasn't going to write a review on this, but I figured I should type out something quickly. Despite the constant statements of shippers online, this isn't a yuri anime. The two main characters aren't physically affectionate at all, and merely have a close friendship. There isn't even any sexual tension. People on the internet will turn any same-sex friendship into boys love or girls love these days it seems. That has nothing to do with the rating though, it's a show that does somethings right and somethings wrong. The villains are interesting, there's basically 3 of them and have their own motivations that sometimes come in conflict with each other. The story is somewhat captivating and I liked Chisato, her ability and the story around her. It made for an enjoyable watch. The things t…

I wanted to like Lycoris Recoil, but I found myself disappointed. Lycoris is a comfort show masquerading as a more complex one. The dystopia is not meaningfully examined, and the problems with it are scape-goated onto a “return to monkey” anprim idiot. For the main two characters, I could ship it, but they are a little generic, as are all the characters. The existence of Kurumi’s character, in particular, makes me want to commit hate crimes. It’s fine to write a silly show about cute girls doing cute things, but seeing Lycoris Recoil’s set up and promises of more exciting complexities while having characters dodge bullets on reaction time is infuriating. Watching it, I felt like I was watching something written but someone too scared to say anything for fear that it’d be polarizing. Lyco…

~~ A HellBent Half Arsed Review™ ~~ Overall Rating: 9/10 ----- Reason for watching? ----- gay girls innit (gigguk recommendation) ----- Reason for finishing? ----- The most invested I've been in any anime in a while. Also gay girls innit ----- Story: 6/10 ----- The story is fine. It's certainly no masterpiece of fiction, but it does what it needs to do and has a few cool twists and turns. I don't really care that it's not immensely complex nor is it realistic in any sense of the word, it's fun when it's fun and it's dramatic when it's dramatic. The plot moves forwards which is more than I can say about quite a few targets I've scratched off of The List™ recently, so it gets points for that too. Really the plot is secondary at best, the characters are what drive the story which either yo…

If you like slice of life with cute girls and an action twist, this show is great... for about six episodes. The last four episodes are a boring mess where the show throws out every strenght it had in exchange for "spetacle" and a terrible plot. A finale so horrible that it makes the first half of the show worse in retrospect. To make matters worse, if you want to get invested in this for the action, this show is going to bait and switch you *hard*. It starts ok and gets worse as the show goes, and on top of that, there are full episodes that are all slice of life and drama. All in all, I walked into this show expecting some dumb fun. I ended up falling in love with the characters hard for the first six episodes or so. And then it was just a downhill slope. I'm never going to rewatch this…

Well, this anime goes from 0 to 100 very quickly. Here, you'll find cute girls with weapons killing everyone, but the anime isn't heavy. In fact, it's not that amazing because the anime "normalizes" it, even though it's not normal at all. The true charm of this anime lies in the duo of Chisato and Takina. On one hand, there's Chisato, who lives life as if each day were her last, always happy and trying to make others happy. On the other side, there's Takina, who didn't know what it was like to live until she found her partner. She only thought about work and her duties. The contrast between them gives rise to incredibly emotional and even funny scenes. As the anime progresses, you can see their relationship evolving, and you think, "Wow, what an incredible friendship." I believe the most…

Gunslinger Girls, but with less trauma, less thoughts... It's cheap, off brand, temu Gunslinger Girls. More plot holes, absolute zero understanding of hacking - what was funny in Cowboy Bebop doesn't work anymore. Many annoying things. Budget went mostly for first and last 4 episodes. Tropes. Not the worst case but if you've seen a couple of action/cgdct you'll roll your eyes. If you are tech savvy beyond incorrectly putting batteries into remote, your eyes will hurt from rolling. If you understand basic physics, you'll hate this show. If you know anyone after heart surgery you'll facepalm at certain plot points which could have been omitted with single internet search. Soundtrack is generic and safe, with perhaps one or two tracks being a bit better. Backgrounds are ok. Chara des…

Englsh. A series that I expect nothing from it, I received nothing from it and I don't expect anything from it in the future, many people in my social circle recommended it to me as an entertaining series in addition to having a good story but when I started watching it I was very lazy keep watching it, the story is not interesting at all, besides being very predictable, I think I'm sick of seeing protagonists who are the best at what they do and defeat anyone, look at it and I'm sure many will like this series because I have verified it by my friends that it is so, but I found it an insufferable series, I think that it does not risk anything in the genre and also does not innovate at all, that is if there are many characters that are not at all relevant and quite clichés, the which do not…

In short, this ‘Lycoris Recoil’ does not tell a reasonable and continuous story. It is not recommended to watch this anime to appreciate its story. Also, for those who have a strong desire for Girls' Loves, it is strongly not recommended to watch the last 3 episodes of this anime. The series composer and director don’t have enough skills to deal with esoteric philosophy arguments. The characters show a kind of naive and vain justice.Their beliefs and activities are not logically self-consistent. This inconsistence began to appear concentratedly in the 11th, 12th and the 13th episodes making the watching experience fall straight into the hell. And the final ending dose not make much sense; it creates a feeling that the author wants to give a happy ending just for the ridiculous pure goal…

Is Lycoris Recoil a good show? No. The better question is, will you enjoy watching Lycoris Recoil? The answer to that is probably yes. A common trend I've noticed in quite a few bad anime or anime that become bad later on like Attack on Titan is that the protagonists aren't very likable or good people. Lycoris Recoil is somewhat guilty of falling into this trap, not really with the main cast but with DA itself. DA is basically an Orwellian group that covers up all sorts of crime and terrorist attacks in the name of brainwashing the sheeple into thinking that Japan is a safe haven where nothing bad happens. DA isn't necessarily shown as being good for doing this, but they also aren't condemned. There's a lot of unfortunate implications from this fact. The main villain so to speak, isn't re…

I dropped after the first episode but picked it back up after seeing the high review score. That was a mistake and a letdown. If I had to describe this in one word, it would be dull. Its basically about a couple of girls trying to pick up the pieces of their lives after having been kicked out of the main plot. Young assassin/gunslinging girls is a plot that’s probably been done to death. This anime attempts to try something new by crossing that genre with a slice of life story about two girls trying to find meaning outside of the organization, but it really just fails at both. Very little story at all- just odd jobs, banter, with some occasional action thrown into the mix that you never really care about and are never really drawn into. Visuals were appealing, but the characters themselves…

Sigh, tricked by the score. Here I thought it was something special because of how much attention it has clearly been getting. It was a bit painful to watch this trainwreck right from episode 1. Don't get me wrong, the animation quality, sound, VA wasn't bad at all. It was great. The problem is the story, seemingly a lot of people think that cute girls and action can justify such horrible writing. This anime is a mish-mash of clichés, cute girls doing cute things, stupidly illogical gunfights and one of the worst secretive organizations I've ever had the displeasure to be exposed to. It's idiotic on so many levels. We have the secretive organization that trains orphaned kids so that we can have high school/middle school girls(for some reason pretty much exclusively cute girls) running a…

Lycoris Recoil is an entertaining, yet flawed fusion of the Girls-with-Guns and Slice-of-Life genres. The characters are generally likeable and interesting. Viewers will want to spend more time with them, swayed by their invigorating personalities. Yet, the cast is one-dimensional and most characters fail to diverge from common stereotypes and clichés. It's not all too bad though, unless you seek a philosophically-engaging portrayal of the human condition, in which case, you should look elsewhere. As a whole, the characters don't develop too significantly, but some characters much develop more than others, leaving a gulf between them in the way of development. The action scenes are extremely fun and well-animated. Past the dazzling gunfights, one gets the impression that the show isn't r…

TL;DR first for those who don't want to read the whole rant (I understand, I wouldn't either): The show's production quality is top-notch. Top-tier animation, top tier action scenes, top-tier designs, STELLAR voice acting. HOWEVER, beneath that and except a few neat details, it's full of obnoxious characters, bullshit situations and plot holes. But apparently it seems like I'm more or less the only one bothered by that so you can give it a try I guess, at least it looks great. Onto the rant. (I'll give a warning for spoilers) You know, a wise vtuber said someday that recommending anime is hard, because every anime has some amount of anime bullshit and it's hard to know what someone's threshold for specific types of anime bullshit is unless you know them extremely well. And, well, I feel…

Have u ever feels regretful after finished a series? that's what i feels today come to watch this series simply because of A-1 studios, also with my free time gets a little bit expanded since i only do my final project on my undergraduate. i watch Aldnoah Zero S1 & S2, 86, SAO, Kaguya-sama, and that experience make me feels that the studios always success to deliver some good stuff, at least at their standard that i familiar with. that's why i had some curiosity whether this studio will continue their success to deliver good visual & animation or even fail a little bit in this show (and engage kiss too) but after finished this series, I feel regret, i feels naive, knowing that "it's okay to watch anime just for the visual" Let's make it clear, 1. the Plot is simply generic, nothing spe…

Hmm, Lycoris Recoil, an original, the potential seemed huge. And yes, it was a great anime one could say, till probably episode 5. Girls with guns is an idea which would ofcourse, sell a lot. But by the end of it, it became so unrealistic that it became hard to cope. Well yes, anime isn't supposed to be realistic, I do get it, but there is a difference between fantasy and 'omg the main cute gal has to stay alive even if the plot is to be fucked over'. The government-controlled media plot was actually genius, and the show seemed to be going good, but then the last episodes started to air. Plot loopholes? Cute girls with guns! Zero backstory? Cute girls with guns! how to sell an anime 101? Cute girls with guns!!! I feel like I'm a 6 year old again, watching those shows where no matter h…

The art of the anime original has almost been lost these days. With production committes preferring to adapt popular visual novels or manga, it’s rare to see an anime original show with staying power. That’s exactly what Lycoreco is, the show that took the world by storm. Admittedly I did not have very high expectations for Lycoreco coming into it. A-1 were coming off their 86 masterclass and I thought this was the time for correction, time for the law of averages to balance things out as it were. I could not have been more wrong. Not only did A-1 stay hot, they showed everyone that they can make a truly iconic anime original series. What makes Lycoreco so special is its character interactions and cute intimate moments. I’ll be honest, the plot here is subpar at best. It started out with…

Lycoris Recoil is and anime that is prioritizing action and characters over a story and while there is nothing wrong with this approach, it still requires at least a bearable story which won't distract us with its flaws. Let's start with what this series does best which is characters, main cast is good. Colourful personalities and good interactions are the biggest strength of this anime. Antagonists while having flaws which I will discuss later, are made to challenge the ideas and motivations of our protagonist. We also see some growth in the side characters which was satisfying. High quality of production makes this show even nicer to watch. Animation is pretty soundtrack was ok and scenes of action had good choreography. Unfortunately while speaking about action it is important to bri…

“You’re gonna become sad just so you can meet someone else’s expectations? That’s boring.” - Chisato Nishikigi Is there such thing as true peace in the world? Even if peace doesn’t exist though, should we be despondent and grow cynical of anything and everything? Lycoris Recoil, while at the surface, is about cute girls with guns, fighting terrorism, its true identity is trying to tell us, the viewers, how to approach living in a world where things aren’t as uplifting as they seem. It’s about a whole lot of things, such as how to live your best life every day, and how to live for yourself, and not for others. The main characters, Chisato and Takina, come from different walks of life, and have polar opposite personalities. Chisato is very positive and never lets anyone keep her from bein…
