I ATE THIS ANIME UP IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE, IT WAS SUCH A SATISFYING WATCH ❤ Nah but for real, this anime lowkey got me out of my anime-watching-mental-block thing.
Story: I like when a dark fantasy anime has secret organisations fighting the dark forces, like evil witches or evil necromancers. But the Order of Magical Resonance is not one of those typical organisations who just do fighting all the time. They also protect witches and all kinds of monsters, the ones who aren't doing anyone any harm and just want to exist. And sometimes fantasy animes will make only the supernatural beings the "bad guys", but here the dark side of humans is exposed as well. I love all things witches and dark fantasy anime, but most of the time I only get action-packed scenes or comedic moments or some blan…

pros:
gud, everything kinda amaze me, even though it's a bit above average, the author made it to be not boring, sometimes they move the POV to other member of the Order. it's always interesting, cuz every pair have their own uniqueness. the most important thing is that it's not always about how strong someone is.
I like the world building, character design, their power also something fresh, it's so cool yet not too strong (sometimes), also I would say everything is made aesthetic in a way. the most prominent thing is the character design, especially Ashaf, look at him bro. plus he brings coffin when the times come, also he chill.
cons:
I would say the adaptation is a bit disappointing, just a bit. it's great I love it, but the manga have done much greater.

[JP, subtitle quality is average; the meaning is generally the same but wording changes personalities & intelligence]
For the first 2 episodes I was expecting this to be something finished and then forgotten but around 4 episodes some characters had vaguely got my liking and by 6 impatient to see the rest. Animation quality, to their benefit, is distributed more heavily to the places that it matters. The overall feel is unpolished. Only real complaint is in sound effects- the selection of sounds is out of place for many spells, and at times there seems to be too little noise (effects, not volume) for what is happening.
They chose a hell of a place to stop. It is not amazing or a gem or anything of that sort but I am eager for it to continue.

The witch and the beast is very much the odd one out as far as anime go. It features quite a unique and intresting story. A whole lot of mystery as well. But sadly it's not all sunshine and rainbows. And as much as i enjoyed it it's far from a masterpiece.
The story happens in a fully fantastical world, as there's no names of lands and countries from this world. Although the culture is clearly mostly the same.As far the geography goes, the world has eight unnamed continents.Im mentioning this because it does play a role in what happens in the show.
We follow a dude Ashaf and another dude Guideau stuck in the body of a girl. They are from some poorly named budget wizard tower from fate. Or at least Ashaf is. Guideau sticks around cuz they help eachother and share somewhat of a goal. Now th…

The plotline/premise is a lot like Dorohedoro and Undead Girl Murder Farce, except this is incredibly generic and shallow shonen action cringe that takes itself way too seriously while failing miserably to actually be seinen.
These characters are all cardboard cutouts we learn almost nothing about and what we do learn amounts to: generically evil witch, generically persecuted good witch, generically evil executioners, generically good mage society, generically angry MC, etc. Shonen trope hell. If it weren't shonen it would actually put effort to have meaningful character depth to give any of it emotional weight.
The world is generic. The interactions are contrived. The exposition is cringe. The pacing of everything is slow, practically just slow fps sloth dialogue to monotonously overexp…

The fact that this anime has so many negative or mixed reviews truly tests my faith in the MAL community, simply because I enjoyed it so much. This one is really a hidden gem, I stumbled upon it on a whim and thought that the short synopsis and cover art looked interesting, and WOW am I glad I gave it a chance. Admittedly the first few episodes aren't the greatest, even though I still liked them, the show truly shines as the viewer is given more glimpses into the dark and supernatural world of "The Witch And The Beast."
As others have pointed out the world building is absolutely phenomenal. It's quite rare that I'm so enchanted by an anime's lore and world that I transition to the manga after finishing the show, but I simply couldn't help myself after finishing this one. The magical syste…

Watched it thinking it would be an great anime but then the story felt a bit blant towards the end. I liked the idea of witches put curses and they can be cured in multiple ways. However somehow the main character in the suit always seems to have the exact trick up his sleeve and pulls the solution rabbit out when he feels like it. Because of this it makes the story predictable that he find some solution to whatever problem popped up that day.
This results in a bit of mixed feelings. Animation looked great but the story is flat.

At another site, I pronounced this the Wolfwood and PowerxMadoka show. If you know what that means, you can just stop reading now, and go about your business.
This really started off with a bang, and it easily passed my 3 eps test. But the producers couldn't keep things headed in the right direction. As time wore on, these MCs became less and less believable. and the Helmet of Disbelief was already stretched pretty thin. New characters get added, and never really go anywhere, or are not connected to the plot except haphazardly. While there is an overarcing plot, it's pretty thin. The series is more episodic, or a number of short arcs, than anything else.
I did like the art work throughout; dark and brooding, but quality. The animation started out top notch, but slowly started to fade a…

The show revoles around Ashraf and Guideau (mostly) and this world of witches and magic. There is an absolute ton of worldbuilding here and I feel we haven't even seen the surface of what's going on. I honestly can't remember a series (perhaps other than Magus Bride) with more immediate depth. Weirdly even the D&D and RPG loving sides of my brian got a kick out of this.
Our protagonists are what drew me in though, they're stylish and cool with an element of mystery. There's both an odd couple and buddy cop thing going on, with an element of hostility. Probably worth noting this isn't normally my thing, but therse are complicated characters whose stories are unlocked slowly so that drew me in. Their complicated nature does mean they're not all good, which might be a turn off for some, but…

If there was only one word to describe this anime...it'd be 'disturbing'.
Not based off of it's story alone (though it did handle rather gruesome plot-lines, even for anime standards), but combined with it's menacing score, vivid art style and the relentless misery that each and every character underwent, the overall feeling viewers received was simply unsettling. However, there were random insertions of beauty and sentiment to mask character depth.
In terms of the overall plot, it was rather fast-passed, a lot of time was dedicated to world-building and how the Witches and the Order blended together in everyday life. The two main characters Guideau and Ashaf, were shrouded in mystery and their baseline motives were left unclear. As a result, audiences empathize more with the supportin…

As I rolled credits, I was left with pretty mixed feelings for this show.
On paper, this show should absolutely be my jam, combing a bunch of stuff together that I really like. But the animation is just so… mediocre. And you can get away with that in a lot of genres, but this is an action heavy show, where almost all of the action is bad.
And don't get me wrong, the actual art style is excellent. In fact, the whole show just has this intangible cool factor about it. Characters are well designed. Everything oozes with style. But then they’ll set up confrontations, and I don't know if it's just poor direction or the strained feeling budget or what, but these battles are basically never good. Really stiff and static, oftentimes a little incoherent and there are moments where it just feels…

Overall - 6/10
A generic and bland anime with very little to let it stand out.
Story - 6
Episodes are split into 2-3 episode arcs with very little in terms of overall progression or character growth. Some of the individual stories have an interesting premise, but are let down by lackluster execution and bland characters.
Characters - 6
Overall generic characters with very little growth, and almost no depth. There is one somewhat interesting main character with some depth which is never explored, and some side characters who are interesting, but is let down by poor execution.
Animation - 6
For the most part it is fairly bland animation and action sequences leave a lot to be desired.
Sound - 6
Sound quality for action sequences is passable and music is forgettable at best.

This has so much potential but it blows it.
I imagine if I was a teenager watching this I'd be over the moon by the character and world designs, which are kinda cool but corny as hell. And so is the writing. The story is easy and straightforward which is good, but there are no sequences where things would get explained. I had no time to get invested in the characters or in the world, which is a shame since the world seems really interesting. There were short sequences where they explained some of the world but then they threw another twist in the mix and then I was confused again, It feels like the writers want the viewer to just guess what everything might be and hope for the best. I missed the reasoning behind the plot changes etc.
Gideou is one-dimensional angry ''girl'', who sees n…

Ok so this anime was an actual masterpiece to me, awesome animation, awesome story building, very interesting and unique characters. The main problem I see people having is completely because of their preferences.
The start of the show follows a "several short independent stories" approach which don't reslly have any story progression. It is though very clearly buildup to a beautiful story and world but most get bored by then and drop it, while I found those episodes very enjoyable nevertheless. It ends up to people heaving specific preferences that were not met and crying about it. Reminds me a lot of the Journey of Witch Elaina that had the same way of storytelling. If you want constant plot twist new major villains or whatever shounen brainrot you probably won't like it, if you can app…

This is an anime that will feel right at home with the likes of Hellsing and Black Butler. There's a fairly conventional human society that exists alongside a little bit of magic and monsters and secret organizations of magic and monsters fight them to protect humanity. Unlike the other two shows, the magic is a little more central to the way the society operates and people are generally aware that such things exist.
The show itself is basically power fantasy with some tragic backgrounds and an occasional attempt at being vaguely poetic or philosophical (again, like Hellsing and Black Butler). There are a few story arcs lasting 1-3 episodes each, and in each case an overpowered protagonist ultimately resolves the arc after goofing off for the sake of "collecting information" (or, more rea…

I've read the all of the volumes that have come up, getting my currently favorite arc in print. I will say this, like I've said in my review of the manga, but, this show is for those who can appreciate worldbuilding and not need immediate gratification for everything. Hilariously enough, everyone thought the first episode set the pacing for the remaining episodes, but, no, it isn't as cliche as people were just reaching for it to be (which, only when you jump to that conclusion could you make an error like this, disregarding the tone of the show).
ADAPTATION (9/10)
Since it's based on a manga which I've read, I can appropriately score it to be a near perfect adaptation. The scenes are identical, and nothing is removed or added on to change the show's direction. This is good, if you liked…

There's a good deal I like about this series. It presents an intriguing set of characters that get more interesting as the series progresses. It's got a visual style that really pops with a great deal of magical flair, and you can feel the weight of its fights. I also like the world-building and place-setting this series has done for its next season.
And that's the biggest knock I have against it: it does just seem like place-setting for the next season. It's not so much that this is a slow start - we start and finish several short arcs back-to-back over the course of this season, all of which have their own little intrigues as various mysteries are solved - but rather that the series seems just fine getting side-tracked as often as possible.
The first two episodes set up a central plot…

The Witch and the Beast.
Ashaf and Guideau hunt the supernatural. Guideau is in it to hunt witches. Specifically a witch that put a curse on her.
Ashaf is a cool headed spellcaster. He's the brains who also knows how to talk his way out of sticky situations.
While Guideau is the muscles, and a hot head. Who punches her way out of sticky situations.
The way the 2 main characters are total opposites create a great dynamic between the two.
I find the way Guideau's fights are choreographed can be lacking. They are not fun to watch and are anticlimactic. Bad choreographed fights is unfortunately a common problem with action anime.
I wont get into too much specifics but for example at one point this very super powerful enemy is unleashed...and the entire fight is just dull.
The way Ash…

Art/Animation: 9/10
Character designs: 7.5/10
The theme of this anime is dark fantasy, just witches, dark magic and goth, it's delicious, my kind of food (anime), I love it. This is one of those anime that I enjoy watching in one sitting without getting bored, one of those anime I would watch an episode after episode just keep going because it keeps me curious, too bad it's only 1 cour, though I know why, most people aren't into these type of anime. However I love it and will never be bored of it, especially with the ending like that, I really want to see season 2 happening.
I can't stress enough how much this anime should've been 2 cour…

Majo to Yajuu is a dark and eerie watch full of mystery, intrigue and an awesome character dynamic between the two leads. Fans of the recent Undead Girl Murder Farce will see many similarities and come out of this one feeling satisfied.
After hearing hype from manga readers, I went into this one with high expectations. As a fan of dark fantasy/metal style stories I think this one really succeeds in creating an atmospheric setting with a nice adventure plot line. The journey of Ashaf and Guideau to find the original witch who cursed her, leaving her trapped in another body is so fun to see unfold. It plays out similar to Tsugaru, Aya and Shizuku’s journey from undead girl murder farce with them helping to solve cases involving witches and other magical beings along the way. All the cases…
