Mysterious Disappearances

Mysterious Disappearances

Introduction

Adult life has brought its share of disillusions to 28-year-old writer Sumireko Ogawa, who was once considered a child prodigy in literature. Facing hostility from editors, she struggles to publish her work and progress in writing her new novel. As Sumireko starts to resign herself to the uneventful life of a book clerk, she is brutally plunged into the realm of mysteries after she reads poetry from a strange book, as she unexpectedly becomes a child again. Sumireko is thrilled to have regained her inspiration and youthful enthusiasm. However, her work colleague Ren Adashino, who happens to be an expert in the occult, warns her that this transformation will eventually kill her unless she reads other verses from the book. Reluctantly agreeing to regain her adult form, Sumireko decides to help Ren and his sister, Oto, in their paranormal investigations. Although Ren's goals are still unclear to Sumireko, the young woman is determined to turn her new exciting life experiences into a lasting literary success. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

what an odd and empty show this was im really not sure what to say, nor where to begin. mysterious disappearances initially struck me, of course, because of lovely and wildly underutilized protagonist sumireko, and how the series – seemingly expertly – juggled the extremely opposite genres of horror and ecchi, plus their frequent splashes of comedic bits. i was turned off of the manga because of the artwork, so i considered the anime to be a great opportunity to experience the series without having to struggle through unappealing visuals. boy, talk about an ironic punishment huh disappearances certainly sports some great designs and coloring, but the animation is…inconsistent, to say the least. that also, unfortunately, applies to the pacing, and writing as well. so, to me, theres really…

[JP, the subtitles kind of suck] This ended up really boring because the plot is stretched too thin and at the same time the progression of scenes is too choppy. Too little of anything significant, be it to story or characters, happens. At the same time it's as if we go brick-to-brick with no visible cement, turning what should be pretty walls into stacks of bricks etched with deep shadows reminding you it's unfinished. As an example 2 characters are discussing something in a store. Somebody interrupts them and then- cut to a new scene where the same 2 characters are now in another room still discussing the same thing. The interrupter said nothing of consequence, didn't do anything, there is no difference between locations, they don't need to figure out where they left off, they just seam…

Mysterious Disappearances is gorgeous, playful, and otherworldly. In many ways, many of its strengths are firmly rooted in its aesthetic and the way it chooses to portray the mysteries at hand. Beginning with its story, it's notable for the fun grasp of the peculiar metaphysical phenomena it features, ranging from old mythical entities steeped in Japanese history and folklore, all the way to brand-new urban legends given life by modernity and actively evolving as time goes on. It strikes a good balance between episodality and the structure of an overall story, but personally I was more interested in the mysteries our main cast of characters were solving as a team, more than the actual throughline plot that provides the drive for their motivations. Still, even if I wasn't as drawn in by the…

Along with Sumireko, Ren, and Otto, we'll explore different paranormal/supernatural events occurring in their city. It's entertaining. We see about four or five cases involving people from their community who have had paranormal encounters. Each case is distinct and striking in its own right; they're interesting, intriguing, and we want to know what will happen. Sumireko is fun and brings energy, Ren is responsible (albeit weak), and Otro is a support who doesn't contribute anything. Additionally, the cases bring them closer to the "victims," who later become recurring characters and add color to the plot. The ending is so-so, but up until that point, all the chapters are good. The only thing I didn't understand was how they figured out what each ghost was, because there could be any nu…

Mysteries With Apartment Wife What do I like about the show it's atmospheric. I really like the characters dialogues, It's something that is quite unique that is not usually seen. the mysteries are nice and about Japanese folklore. I think it is unique will still be unique in later seasons. and it is very horny and I respected. Really nice character design that is unique that I have not seen in a while, and all the visuals has a good layer of Horror Aesthetics over it, with the coloring and the decay. And the main woman has a body I don't see often in anime, big busty and the camera man is not afraid to show it. the eyes design on every character looks so distinct and good. Even through I don't know much about Japanese litterature and folklore, the anime explain what is needed and it's…

When I started Mysterious Disappearances, I thought, “Wow, a story with characters who are neither good nor bad. Intriguing mysteries to solve and cute girls. What could go wrong?” The answer was: almost everything. Don’t get me wrong, Mysterious Disappearances is not a bad anime. Mysterious Disappearances tells the story of two siblings who are part of a magical world trapped in our world, whose only hope to return to their world is to do “favors” for a ticket seller of a magical train. The way to do favors is by solving mysteries and supernatural events based on Asian urban legends. One thing I really highlight about this anime is its characters. They are all great and well-constructed. And the best part: there are no good people. Here, everyone is human. Humans with qualities, flaws…

According to my personal criteria, Kaii to Otome to Kamikakushi is far from being a horror anime. I will use Mieruko-chan as a reference, which has supernatural elements appearing suddenly, a situation that does not happen in Kaii to Otome to Kamikakushi. However, the anime is still interesting. It has a well-written mystery story, where the Adashino brothers want to go and where they came from, what the cursed objects really are, what the novel that Sumireko is writing will be like. These subjects make you interested in continuing to watch! Speaking of the characters, each of them has their own particularities. The Adashino brothers have the ability to see signs where cursed situations are occurring. Sumireko is the bearer of youth and has the ability to change size and age by reciting a…

I'm a mystery junkie, so as soon as I found this anime, I had to give it a try. They really developed the characters in a way that I cared for them even though I watched the whole season in a week or so, which is something many other short anime have issues with. I actually cried in the last episode, which is pretty odd. I will not put any spoilers here, but Oto goes from a very unlikeable tsundere to a pretty decent character. It was a bit difficult to keep up with all the urban legends/old myths etc., but it was also nice to learn some new things. One huge issue with this anime is the ecchi content as I hate it with a burning passion. The MC's boobs are often a focus in the scene along with some panty shots etc. It's made some serious scenes worse, so if you can look past that, give i…

Guilty pleasure. These two words are the best definition I can give "Kaii to Otome to Kamikakushi". This is an anime that is not great, hell, it's probably not even good by most standards, it surfs the waves of mediocrity quite well, but it's washed away whenever it tries to be properly good, and even then, I can't help but to think of this anime as an enjoyable piece of media. Let's be honest here, likely all of us, at one point of our lives, got a bit of an interest for urban legends, myths and the paranormal. The number of views on YouTube videos about such topics don't lie, these legends and myths are definitely a huge interest for many people because they allow us to think of reality as more than just what we can regularly perceive, and because practically everyone likes as a bit of…

I’m loving the trend of dark mystery/horror we’ve been getting lately. It’s a genre that’s severely underrepresented in this medium and Totokami is a good addition to the list. While it’s not as good as the recent Dark Gathering, it’s still a really fun watch and in my opinion one of the more underrated shows of the year. Just like Dark Gathering, Totokami is a mystery based anime following the main cast solving “curiosities” that often involve aspects of Japanese folklore or mysticism. It’s very much a monster of the week type of show with a slow burning overarching plot in the background. The cases were all pretty interesting to me as someone who loves learning about mythology and Buddhist/Shinto beliefs. Nothing ever jumped out as “scary” unlike Dark Gathering, but there were definite…

Mysterious Disappearances - It's not Dark Gathering levels of scary, but it ain't a noteworthy one either. Some of you would know that I'm an aficionado for horror shows (a la Dark Gathering style), even going so far as to proclaim (in the review) that future follow-up works will have a high ground to try and beat the gory supernatural series. And as much as I've tried to sustain through the newest supernatural anime this season, which would be mangaka Nujima's Kaii to Otome to Kamikakushi a.k.a Mysterious Disappearances, it's definitely a case of Mysterious Disappearances, involving Maidens with a sense of mystery for some popcorn comedy drama that's aimed at the Seinen (young adult men) market, This show should be a suitable demographic for people my age. But I come out just feeling so…
