I went into this cold; I’ve maybe heard the title before, but ultimately knew nothing about it other than that eye-catching Netflix blurb. It is the most delightful surprise I have encountered in a long time. Shockingly not terrible queer representation. Amazing dynamic of a tsundere couple that haven't realized yet that they're dating. A barrage of unwanted suitors coming for each of them. Everyone in this show is insane in some way. It's also portrays adolescent immaturity in a way that feels startlingly real and without being too annoying. I love it.
Also helps that the English dub is quite good.

I remember I was ecstatic when I first saw news of the remake, and I decided to put off watching it till more episodes came out. I started (and finished) watching the two seasons of the remake yesterday.
I was worried at first at how the voice acting was going to be, but I was very pleasantly surprised to find out that most of the main cast is the same as it was from the original release twenty years ago. That was in my opinion one of the best things that could've happened to this remake. They make the characters come alive, and it's a very fun watch! I still remember myself almost two decades ago sending fan-mail to the writer asking for more ranma!
This anime is just peak beauty with its faithfulness to the original anime, I am beyond ecstatic that the main cast has been re-cast here, an…

The best remake of 2024/2025.
My joy hasn't left my face even after watching a little of the old anime.
A year later, unfortunately, I didn't write a review of the first season, but I just finished the second season, and yes, it was absolutely fantastic.
The story of Ranma might be different, and the old anime didn't finish it. I thank MAPPA for producing these two seasons with such a wonderful production, even though there are some alterations.
Yes, it's excellent. I personally used to watch it on an Arabic channel called Spacetoon, and about a year ago, I watched about 13 episodes of the old version. I was thinking of reading the manga, which has 400 chapters. God willing, after high school, I'll dedicate time to the manga and watch the old version and the corresponding movies.
And…

In my opinion, Ranma 1/2 is an anime filled with nothing but trashy comedy and not at all funny. I didn't laugh at this anime at all. If you did, you probably have a very poor sense of humor. Almost all the characters feel stupid, and there's no meaningful development. There are many cliché scenes, such as the sudden appearance of a random character challenging Ranma to a fight based on his "skills," while the MC innocently and foolishly accepts it. For example, the ice skating scene is utterly absurd.
If you're hoping for romance, you'd better abandon your plans. The romantic element is barely noticeable; instead, it feels empty and forced. The character relationships are filled with angry girls who solve problems with punches, which are somehow considered funny, even though they're clea…

Classic Ranma 1/2 from ages past was known for a few things: slapstick humor, martial arts, striking character designs and with generous ecchi moments. This remake has most of those except for one major thing though: its strange aversion to anatomy. It might be going for the PG side of censorship which I am not really fond of but there's actually something else that this version did better: PACING.
Classic Ranma is loooong but it had a lot going for it nostalgia aside. It is entertaining, the characters are distinct and varied, the goddamn boppy opening and endings, and I had the biggest confused boner of my life as a kid coz of Ranma-chan. After a rewatch years ago however, I noticed something about the classic that I never noticed a kid: there are scenes that drag like hell. Some fight…

It seems the wave of remakes has finally arrived in the Japanese animation industry. Not that such productions are entirely new to this vital industry, as we've had good examples since the 2000s, such as the renowned Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (2009-2010), from the studio Bones. However, it's notable that, in recent years, the revisiting of many classic—and highly successful—animes has become increasingly common. On the one hand, this is positive, as it allows these iconic productions to adopt the current seasonal release format, rather than the nearly uninterrupted weekly episodes. On the other hand, there's a valid concern that this could become a vicious cycle, much like what happens in film and video games. But that's a topic for another, more appropriate time, so for now, let's…

Very wholesome with cute animation, interesting characters and funny humor.
Only really disappointed by the blatant and subtle sexism.
Blatant sexism includes actively saying/ implying that women are weaker and less capable than men.
Subtle sexism shows in the the case that Akane - a really awesome and strong female lead - got more and more useless as the show progressed.
So many of the battles she lost she should have easily been able to handle.
Otherwise very wholesome and interactions between the betrothed could be really cute. Though a love story between two tsunderes is chaotic. XD
Cast is unique and characters will surprise you. Definitely enjoyed this re-edition of Ranma 1/2.

Ranma 1/2 is emphatically not to be watched in any situation where you are not alone !
More seriously, this is a show which is certainly not for everybody. I found it quite decent but there are many impediments that certain types of people will not be able to hurdle which I will get into later on.
As for the basic aspects of the show they are very good. As with all good anime’s there is an Iconic opening and good music. Character design is varied and excellent, and there are few filler characters. Everybody is different and memorable. The art is very crisp, modern and beautiful. It’s very pleasant to look at the vast majority of times. There is this occurrence where the art style will suddenly switch to a much more stylistic or different one to emphasise action or things of the like. T…

i watched this show twice in hopes of making a proper, enticing review. but i don't think i possess the pretty words to will you into watching it
so instead, i'll just tell you what it made me feel — spoiler free — and let you decide for yourself if you'd like to feel something similar
here's the bottom line, potential reader: i like this show. i like it a whole bunch. it made me feel happy, and it made me laugh. several times! whilst being alone in my room! at 5 am! it's great!
much like many great pieces media, it timewarps you back to a period of your life that was miserable in real life, and gives you a welcome little 'what if' ponderstorm. i wish my schooldays were that colorful. i wish i took martial arts during my formative years. i wish i talked to a girl i liked. i wish i was e…

Ranma is back baby, rewired and repackaged for the zoomers.
I think this is a great remake of the original. The vibrant colours and the fast pace fit the story way better.
It still has the same flaws the original had, no doubt. This isn’t an attempt to “fix” the original, but rather present it in a new light for the constantly renewing audience. (And for Takahashi Rumiko’s wealth to get bigger, if that’s even still possible). Anything that I could say about this one would apply to the original as well, and that one has already been talked into oblivion.
Even though I watched it dubbed and didn’t really feel like it, the original Ranma was the first anime I ever saw way back in 2014, and this remake is the first anime that I ever watched beginning to end in raw Japanese (or as a friend…

Such a charming anime! I've enjoyed every second of it and was very invested by the end of the season. I was never acquainted to the manga or original anime until now, though I've known a few of Rumiko Takahashi's work since forever. But as with the urusei yatsura modern adapatation I discovered a new aspect of her universe other than her fiery action mangas.
I did read some review of og fans being quite disappointed with the adaptation but I can say, as a new viewer, that it works perfectly as an introduction. I must also have been in the right mindset, it was just the romance anime I needed, lighthearted, absurdely humorous and enjoyable characters that have great chemistry.
It's quite a simple story with no real overarching plot but I feel some depth to the characters and their compli…

This is the adaptation Ranma needed in the first place. It has been almost EXACTLY accurate to the original manga.
People complaining that the original is better are only right in TWO aspects: music and art direction. Because other than those, the original constantly mischaracterizes characters, adds scenes that weren’t there(that change how the audience thinks characters feel about each other) and doesn’t even adapt the whole manga! Which HOPEFULLY the remake can do!
This remake really captured Rumiko’s late 80s to early 90s style as well as her crazy characters and wacky story arcs! The voice actors returning to their roles warmed my heart, and I’m so glad I get to see Ranma and Akane again, this time, portrayed more accurately! There’s not much more I can say besides that I love this…

it did not do the original justice. i was really hyped about it so im a bit disappointed. it skipped over and rushed a lot of jokes and story, and focuses a bit too much on the romance. also i wish it used the original soundtrack cause its my favourite, although i really like the reboot's op and ed (ano's voice is just super cute).
it made me really sad that it skipped a lot of plot, and u can really tell... idk it just feels like everything is happening too fast, and not in a good way. but im pretty sure they did it so they could rush shampoo's entrance, since she is one of the most popular characters, and like marketing and stuff. also so many jokes were skipped, so it loses the comedy vibe, so when a joke is actually made it just feels out of place. this also made akane seem a bit vio…

Ranma ½ is a delightful blend of romance, comedy, and action that stands out as a timeless masterpiece in anime. The series revolves around Ranma Saotome, a martial artist cursed to transform into a girl when splashed with cold water, and Akane Tendo, his feisty yet kind-hearted fiancée. The constant misunderstandings and awkward situations between them create a unique romantic tension that is both humorous and endearing. Their evolving relationship, filled with bickering yet undeniable chemistry, keeps viewers hooked. Add to that an eccentric cast of characters, hilarious fight scenes, and moments of genuine emotion, and you have an anime that masterfully balances chaos and charm. A potential remake could elevate its beauty further for modern audiences!

First review here but I was inspired to counter some hate I saw to write this.
I absolutely loved the original Ranma 1/2 series growing up. It was one of the first anime I came across as a youth. It was such a fun and unique story that attached me to Rumiko Takahashi's works in the future. The anime sadly didn't have an ending so with the premise of a modern remake I was hopeful to get a true ending. I never saw Urusei Yatsura (an even older Takahashi work) but I saw the remake which someone captured that 80-90s anime style while being modern animation. I enjoyed it so much I bought all the original stuff for it. My point is the remake is worth it.
Let me say this disclaimer before I continue.
Ignore haters like "MidniteAndBeyond" who don't see the beauty and comedy of this piece. Rem…

It's like, how much more mid could this be? And the answer is none. None more mid.
While the Urusei Yatsura remake largely hit it out of the park, this is so okay I don't even know how to describe it. In this form it certainly has no reason to exist. The 2008 special showed how awesome Ranma could be in an era of faster and cheaper CG production, making it all the more disappointing.
In order to get through enough of the story to get to a point where Shampoo shows up within 12 episodes about 35-40% of everything had to be cut. In some cases this is a lateral move, in others it sucks the humor or the story out of the scene. OTOH, the fights don't get cut, and actually feel longer than do in the original, which means you're losing more story content than the shorter runtime would imply. I…

RANMA 1/2 remake 2024 had a decent amount of buzz after its release. Its thye remake of the 1989 and manga made by one of the most legendary mangakas, Rumiko Takahashi. Few of her famous work also consist of inuyasha, urusei yatsura.
Personally i havent come across any of her work until now, so i have never seen the original series to compare both. So i can only judge ranma based on the remakes quality.
The shows art style and animation of it are splendid to say the least. The 80s retro style mixed in with the modern flashy colour set. Mappa did a good job in the animation department and by keeping the retro style.
Music is decent its not fantastic nor bad. I sort of liked the outro and non of the bgm stood out to me.
The story uses the concept of sex shift, like when your body changes in…

Ok, look. I know this is a beloved classic to a lot of people. I have no nostalgia for this series and previously only knew of it by name. If you've been enjoying it, I'm happy for you. I wouldn't dare ridicule someone for liking something I did not. So I hope you'll provide the same courtesy to me as I share my own thoughts. Ok? Ok... this is the worst anime I've ever seen in my entire life.
So ya know how my least favorite part of InuYasha was all the terrible ship dynamics and how all the couples had absolutely zero chemistry with one another and we were just expected to interpret their constant fighting as them conveying their feelings for one another? Imagine if they made an ENTIRE show about just that one concept. Every time, and I do mean EVERY TIME a new character got introduced,…

Coming from someone who didn't find the original Ranma all that amazing, this remake so far is a considerable improvement. The pacing is a lot tighter, which really helps the story stand out more. The characters seem much better written this time around, particularly Akane. And it looks really nice too, possibly the best that anything from the series has ever looked.
All that said, this is still just the beginning of a series that likely doesn't have too many surprises up its sleeve for the remainder of its run. As the original went on, they never really did as much with its characters as they could have, only using them as they were needed for the plot and not really expanding them much beyond that. Not to mention how the original only adapted about 60% of the manga, leaving its ending…

Fresh off the coattails of the success of the amazing Urusei Yatsura remake comes Takahashi Rumiko’s latest “oldie but goodie”, Ranma 1/2. Even with just 12 episodes done, I can confidently say this is better in every way than the UY remake and is one of the best remakes of all time. High praise, I know, but it’s really how I feel. This show has perfectly captured the magic of 80s anime and brought it to the modern audience without compromising on what makes it great. For all the hype MAPPA get about their battle shonen adaptations, this is among the best work they’ve done and we’re only getting started. If you’re on limited time this season, this is one of the few shows you need to check out.
If there’s one thing Takahashi-sensei knows how to do, it’s write great character driven stories…
