Kirio Fan Club

Kirio Fan Club

Introduction

Obsessed with their rather ordinary classmate Ken Kirio, high school students Aimi Miyoshi and Nami Sometani form a peculiar friendship. Every time the girls hang out, they talk about Kirio and fantasize about interacting with the boy they usually just observe from afar. Aimi and Nami are mostly satisfied with the status quo, but they occasionally cannot help but be jealous of those who get to be near their crush—though this still rarely leads them to approach him directly. This show isn't half bad. It's drama isn't the strongest, but it does a good job at somewhat being earnest and absurd at the same time. The small cast is focused around our two mains Aimi and Nami. Most of the comedy revolves around Aimi. She is the star of the show. From her unique exaggerated faces that no one else shares, to her awkward dialogue. She is so over the top at times, but in other ways she is the most grounded and aware. If you don't like her, then chances are you won't like the show. While there is alot of talk about treasuring Kirio's bodily fluids; the show maintains a distance from being flat out gross. It's also generally sexless compared to other shows in this setting and most shows in general. There are no mental images showing the strength of her love. lol Aimi is we…

This anime is clearly not everyone's cup of tea (comedy rarely is) but I overall found it pretty enjoyable at it's worst and hilarious at it's best. I admit however that halfway through I started to lose interest, as the jokes became a bit redundant and I realised there isn't any romantic developments coming, however I pushed through and I didn't regret it. It's important to know ahead of time that this anime isn't a romance at all. It involves some romantic feelings but there is no real romance coming out of those. However I would say that the friendships it portrays are quite wholesome, and it's much more rare to see that type of stuff in media compared to romance. Aimi and Nami are a fun duo, and although their only talking topic seems to be Kirio, some people seem to have missed the…

Just as another review here said, if the premise or trailers already caught your eye and you connect with that style of humor, you don't need a number/rating to decide whether or not to watch this show. Just do it! But for those on the fence or curious, then I will say, Kirio Fanclub is a good, well-constructed show. Nothing ground-breaking, but there's a lot more going on in its lighthearted story (even apparent from the very first episode). Even though the cringe humor is part of the show's identity, there's a sincere core to its story/characters that I appreciate. The relationship between Aimi and Nami feels like a perfect encapsulation of those dumb conversations I've had back in school with close friends. Whenever we shared the same hyperfixation (crush, favorite character, media fr…

Kirio Fanclub is a down-to-earth highschool dramedy with really realistic teenagers; unfortunately, really realistic teenagers aren’t all that interesting. Despite the jaw-dropping OP ,the animation in the actual series is nothing to write home about. Beyond the pastel, washed out colors, there’s little interesting direction or storyboarding. The characters make some funny faces, but funny faces are not enough to carry an animation. The OST wasn’t all that offensive, but there are definitely a couple tracks that replayed a bit too much for my enjoyment. As I stated in my opening preamble, there’s not a lot of zip to these characters. Our leading ladies, Aimi and Nami, are extremely gross teenaged girls. They make off-color jokes, have extremely clear character flaws, and otherwise rese…

This was a well done comedy anime, from start to finish. The entire anime is one ongoing childish bit that was well executed and refreshing. The bits all stem from the same starting point, but always takes unique turns, which is why i consider it well done. It also has slight hints of seriousness, but they use comedy and outlandish scenarios to deal with those issues, just as some people do in the real world I might add. The main characters are almost all unique and interesting, and the ones that aren't are made significantly better by interacting with our 2 main leads. Any interactions with our MCs leads to funny and entertaining on going bits. Those two do carry this show, but theres signs of major life in some of the side characters as well (voodoo guy and obsessed stan girl are who I…

The amount of genre innovation I have seen here in this anime has impressed me beyond belief. It is very rare for me to write reviews but I really feel the need to do justice to this criminally underrated show. First up the dynamic between the two main lead girls. It's so refreshing to see friends who actually feel like real friends I would see in my own life. Their interactions bounce amongst them like its the most natural thing in the world. It is so fun just listening to them talking about the stupidest things in the world. The voice actors did an exceptional job. The comedy in this show is on the absurdist, immature end and the way the show still manages to smoothly interject it into the flow without feeling repetitive. The show has its somber moments which the comedy either gives wa…

Kirio Fan Club — Does unhinged absurd comedy even have a place in "Shoujosei Renaissance"? As a primarily shounen/seinen fan, I've often seen this repeated term on social media known as the "shoujo/josei renaissance," especially when discussing romance, fantasy, and slice-of-life works within those demographics. However, I barely saw unorthodox concepts being featured in these discussions—not you, "Ojou to Banken-kun" and "Kisaki Kyouiku kara Nigetai Watashi." So, does "Kirio Fan Club," an unhinged gross comedy josei, even have a place on the Renaissance list? The story follows two eccentric high school girls, Aimi Miyoshi and Nami Sometani, who are obsessed with learning more about their classmate, Ken Kirio. Nicknamed DRAGON Kirio, the introverted student rarely communicates with other…

Probably my favorite anime of the season. The pacing is absolutely perfect for weekly viewing. Right from the start, the OP and ED grab you, and the crude, lowbrow humor reeking of youthful immaturity is wonderfully commendable. Youth! The youthful atmosphere here really has something special. I imagine most viewers felt the same way I did : we all thought Kirio-kun was just a plaything for Lesbians. But as the female lead duo got more involved, this faceless guy suddenly leaped out like a tiger from a painting, springing to life from what seemed like a mere plot device. By the end, I fully realized the male and female leads are the exact same kind of weirdo and are honestly made for each other, so I had to tearfully take off my yuri-tinted glasses and look at it objectively. Among the si…

Kirio Fanclub I recommend, with caveats. On the surface a comedy about a very...very, weird girl and her best friend who start a club dedicated to the object of their affection their classmate Kirio, and when I say weird I mean weird, not very many characters like the MC (or the many weird side characters as well) in anime so the comedy may not be for everyone. While for the most part it IS just a goofy comedy (not a rom com as there really is no romance) be warned toward the end it does tackle some serious issues that kill the comedy. I, however, really enjoyed the ending and think it makes up for the serious stuff, and also I applaud the show for even taking the risk to include such stuff in a comedy. In an era of anime with an endless stream of similar shows it at least is something uni…

The pitch for Kirio Fanclub is "what if two of the weirdest girls on earth liked the same boy and formed a club to get him to date one of them." It's a good pitch, even if it's a complete lie. The real pitch for this show is "what if Anohana hid its drama behind a layer of cringe comedy?" That question and how you react to it is a pretty good indicator of how much you'll enjoy Kirio Fanclub. And as someone who thinks Danganronpa V3 is one of the best games ever made, I'm clearly a mark for this exact brand of comedy/drama combo. The show follows the members of the eponymous club, Aimi Miyoshi and Nami Sometani, as they concoct schemes to get Kirio to notice them, all the while competing with each other over who really loves Kirio more. Aimi in particular comes across as more unhinged, wit…

You PHILISTINES! This is high art! Seriously though, I love these kids with all my heart, and I’m disappointed that the front-loaded crude humor seems to have turned a bunch of people off this show. If you don’t like how Aimi says she’d cherish Kirio’s intestinal tract or lick his snot or whatever, I can’t help you. Yes, it’s immature. These are immature characters. It’s so refreshing that they talk and act weird to each other, when so many other anime with teen characters portray them as mini-adults that occasionally act up when they have a bad day. It's not completely true-to-life, is a comedy, but I find these characters more relatable and acting their age than anything I’m seeing this season. I was laughing hard at the first episodes, but then something strange happened. Suddenly Kir…
