The Warrior Princess and the Barbaric King

The Warrior Princess and the Barbaric King

Introduction

The Illdoren Kingdom has always longed to conquer the lands to its east, which are ruled by those the kingdom calls barbarians. Serafina de Lavillant, the kingdom's First Company Captain, is tasked to lead the next expedition toward the east. Witnessing the poverty of the citizens and the misdeeds of the nobility daily, she takes huge pride in her role and promises to come out victorious to ensure a safe future for the kingdom. During the expedition, Serafina and her forces face off against a powerful clan led by its heir, Veor, who proposes a duel between him and Serafina. To allow her comrades to flee and survive the battle, she accepts, but he quickly overpowers her. As a result, Serafina pleads to be killed by him to retain her pride, but Veor has different plans for her. She ends up in a cell, and Serafina expects to be used and tortured for information. Instead, Veor admits that he fell in love with her as they clashed their swords and intends to make Serafina his bride! Although Serafina suspects all of this to be a scheme, the warm welcome from Veor and his clan—alongside the east's vastly different, rich nature and culture—might just be enough to melt her heart. West Doesn't Appreciate Women With Abs The Warrior Princess and the Barbaric King is an anime, about how the West has fallen, because the east appreciate warrior women, who are strong and can beat their husbands. Despite that dramatic backdrop of the show, of hunger and the slow death of the west, it is a funny love story with lots of people, who just can't communicate what they really feel. Female main character is adorable and seeing all the misunderstandings makes my heart melt, and male main Is a man who appearance is miss leading, because he a gentlemen and young. Lots of culture shock with the barbarian culture that makes it very funny, and an anime production that does a good enough job to look fine. It is an anime where it's mostly the same joke all the way through, but if it…

This starts weirdly gritty but gets more light-hearted. That's important to start with. The tone is reasonably light-hearted with an interesting world and characters I find interesting. It's not going to set your world on fire or define your year but it is a solid, fun show that's well animated with a good dub. The world building starts out pretty stereotypical, but after a few episodes you begin to get an idea that there are more questions than answers, it's interesting and even when other elements lost my interest I wanted to see more of the world. I still want a season 2 to see where this goes. I love the dwarves and you will probably have your favourite. The characters are the other strength. They're nothing new but done well. Believable in their archetypes. Serafina is understandabl…

From what it's worth, I enjoy the time when we're having more fantasy setting anime that isn't pure Isekai. Meanwhile, this anime is interesting for what it's about. Then again, I was curious if the usual weeks and grifters would actually not mind this since you have a strong, independent woman with flaws and a strong-willed man who respects women equally. Jokes aside, this was interesting for what it's about. However, I couldn't lie that this anime does have some flaws as it's based on a manga series called the Barbarian's Wife. Why the name change? Your guess is as good as mine. If anything, it's to bring more spice into this fantasy. Okay, that was a cringey joke, but after c*** jokes that I would make, even to compare some losers on the internet, I couldn't help it. Especially if you'r…

When I was starting this, having read the intro synopsis I had expected something like heavy story about captivity, conquest and learning the world the hard way alongside. Luckily this one overturned all this in an instant. To start with, this one is extremely good. The story is peaceful, the plot does exist and is consistent, the amount of emotion, comedy and grains of attempts on romance is just right, and thus it naturally gives you these fine old fantasy vibes. The general idea and all parties involved are pretty much clear and the world feels organic. The composition is heartwarming and the execution natively manages to maintain a good pace between storytelling and having it as slice of life. Character growth? There's aplenty, and at a managed pace. The art is decent. Yes, it's defi…

If you turn your brain off and don't think about the circumstances that brought all of these characters together this can be a fun and enjoyable fantasy story about cultural understanding and self analysis of inherent biases. However if for a moment you stop to think about the specifics of how Sarah got here, you have to remember that nothing about this story is wholesome or romantic. Sarah is a prisoner, being kept against her will to be the unwilling wife of her captor and any romantic feelings she develops for him in that situation is classic textbook Stockholm Syndrome. I don't want to sit here and write a long rant about the morality of the story, since the morality is pretty obvious once you notice it, but I think the way this story just ignores the fundamental premise of its plot h…

It both works and doesn't, and that is somehow worse than simply being bad. Honestly, this is something weird. You may have heard it called the Stockholm Syndrome anime, but that's a misunderstanding. It would be more accurate to call this the grooming anime. An individual in a position of power over another exploits that position to convince them they are in love with him. There is something deeply unsettling about the undertones of this anime, and yet the execution is not as toxic as the undertone would suggest. Frankly there is something fascinating about how this show is simultaneously problematic and yet fun at the same time. These characters are likeable, the action and story fun. So it's incredibly weird how watchable yet unwatchable this show is. It's honestly a disturbing dissona…

This anime had a great proposal, and the execution was just as nice. I just wanted that the relation between the mcs were more developed. Instead, what made me grasp in this story was the world building around them, which made me really like the anime overall. For the most people i think this is just average, and it's not that wrong, but I feel like if you are a person who likes slow pacing romance anime with world building around the characters, this is highly reccomemended for you. There weren't many things that bothered me, that's why I gave it a 9.

There are no real surprises to be had. If you watch the opener and take a guess as to how it will play out, you will very likely be correct. There are concepts introduced that aren't brought back up, there are entire episodes that build to nothing, and there are genuinely interesting dynamics that aren't played with at anything more than a surface level. This series is anime junk food. It's ultimately unfulfilling, but like junk food it's still enjoyable to eat. If you go in not expecting anything deep, you'll get what you bargained for. If you would prefer the underlying premise to be handled with nuance and detail, you'll be left wanting. All that aside, I'd still recommend it if this particular flavor of junk food appeals to you. You get the sense that it's not deep, but very much is no…

If this was a setup for a longer story something similar to Kingdom or such I'd rate it higher. There is a lot of potential but the anime itself doesn't really live up to much of it. It feels like they wanted to hit certain beats so rushed at them with no thought to the plot around them. If it gets a sequel series and they explore a lot more of the world and story than it might be fine, but as a stand-alone it falls flat. I have no idea how good the manga it's based off is, as I said there is a LOT of potential in this world structure, and cultural v political setups here, and it feels like an amazing amount goes unexplored and left hanging. I'm only giving this a 6/10 despite the fact that I did enjoy it, simply because it feels undeveloped. It's a "watch it or don't" review for me.…

Issa a greaat anime for those who got tired of redacted MC's and wanna have some nice watch after. I suggest to give it a try to anyone, just great imo and technicaly executed on a really good level. Characters are kinda pretty flat except for MC, but cuteness and kindness compensates for everything else. A bit of absurdity helped a story. Story is kinda unique for nowadays, romantic comedy in a fantasy setting without harems and some nice animations:) I personally binged it, and art style is really for me. I'm looking forward to more works of that studio.

WHEN THE BARBARIAN KING WOOS THE WARRIOR PRINCESS: THE WARRIOR PRINCESS AND THE BARBARIC KING, REVIEWED An enemies-to-lovers fantasy that looks gorgeous, hits hard in its big moments, and keeps tripping over its own tonal shifts. An unusual couple has graced the screen: a barbaric king and a warrior princess, fated to stand on opposite sides of a war and somehow end up together anyway. That's the whole hook of The Warrior Princess and the Barbaric King, adapted from Noriaki Kotoba's manga (which Seven Seas prints in English as The Barbarian's Bride). No spoilers from me on how the two of them get there, but the premise alone tells you the pleasure is in the journey, not the destination. WHERE IT LOOKS THE PART From a technical standpoint, the artwork is what stands out. The character de…

A knight is kidnapped by a barbaric king to make her his wife. Started way better than it ended. The premise of this show is good. The first few episodes are good, I wanted to see what would happen next. We met the characters, we saw the differences between both the barbaric and royal civilizations and we saw some fights. It’s a traditional romantasy type of anime, so the guy is built, handsome, strong and basically everything you could ever wish for. The girl is also cute, strong and has never had any romantic interactions in the past. However, this anime felt like it was dragging. It became less and less interesting, and in the first 3 episodes, we could already see our MC falling in love with our big strong barbaric guy, so later in the show, it was more boring as nothing new is being…

I really, really like the overall concept of this series, with worldbuilding that thoroughly establishes the true nature of the Eastern Expeditions without trying to imply anyone from either side is completely in the right or wrong for being from either side. Despite the premise, the relationship between the two leads is wholesome, and the other characters are generally fun to watch, though prepare for a lot of secondhand embarrassment. The main issue with the show stems from a lack of proper tone management and constant sidequesting. For example, Seraphina (the main character) behaves more like a middle school girl than an experienced military leader. Now, to be fair, this would be fine (at times), given that Veor seems to be her first proper suitor; however, this attitude prevails for…

Himekishi is a show that's really good at what it's good at, but... iffy everywhere else. It follows Serafina de Lavillant, a princess knight who is defeated and captured by the barbarians she is leading a Crusades-esque campaign against. Her captor, Veor, is the leader of the barbarians; she expects him to torture her, but as it turns out, he actually wants to court her to be his wife. Through her time with him and his aide, Cersei, Sera learns about the barbarians' culture, and that they aren't actually as barbaric as she assumed. Where Himekishi shines is undoubtedly with its worldbuilding and themes. The story explores themes of prejudice from multiple angles—both the societal expectations placed on Sera, who wants to be a knight but is pressured to be a "proper noble lady", and the f…

The idea is quite nice, but both the artwork and the script are mediocre. It’s watchable and the episodes go by quickly. Some of the dialogue is a bit disjointed and, as with many anime, it's designed to be a long-running story that ultimately never gets a sequel. After the hundredth anime featuring a hot springs episode, it would be better to use that time to develop the plot or the characters. I don't think there will be a second season, but honestly, I'm not even anxious for one. I’m not giving it a 6/10 just because of the premise."

Well, this is going to be hard. Mostly because it was all over the place. So, I'm hoping to get a better feeling after putting it all on paper. Visuals. Well, interesting art style. I think thats what first caught my eye also. Not amazing, but also not bad per se. Its a blend of two main things: one thats "old-school"-like (his cloak and armor, some landscapes etc), the other one resembles a webnovel (very defined lines, crisp and saturated colours). Line I said, not bad. And then you have scenes with sht computer generated stuff. The designs are ok (question mark?). Or maybe it would've been a better fit if the colour palette was different. I like a lot of designs, FL looks amazing (even sexy when needed, it shows that the people knew what they were doing), he looks amazing, some of the…

I will start by saying that with how over saturated the fantasy genre is, Himekishi wa barbaroi no yome is not special or groundbreaking whatsoever. However, in my humble opinion, I found it quite entertaining and looked forward to watch it every week. Let's start with the plot: it's the most typical, normal plot you can find within this genre. Nothing too exciting, some plot holes here and there. We can safely say that the plot wasn't what carries the show but it is still entertaining with some light drama. It was mostly adventures carried by our two main protagonists so it might be boring for some people. The characters are what carried this show for me and made me rated a whopping 8/10. Veor and Sera are such a good entertaining pair, very light characters that made me laugh a lot.…

I really enjoyed this anime despite how predictable that it could be in places. There is nothing new to see here but how it goes about the typical warring factions romance kept bringing me back every week looking forward to the next episode. I also really liked the set up for a season 2 so I hope we'll get that announcement eventually. The characters were likable and I also enjoyed how magical creatures were integrated into the story. If you like the will they won't they one-sided reluctance lovers type of romance, then you will probably enjoy this one. If you want something where the main character is a little more confidence in her sexuality, you might be frustrated by this anime

This anime showed a lot of promise in its first episode, only to waste that potential by ignoring major plot holes and focusing instead on minor characters and pointless side quests. Serafina is a knight captain fighting in a war against the barbarians. Already on the losing side, she is defeated in a duel by the barbarian king and taken prisoner. Other reviewrs pointed out the Stockholm syndrome implications, but even if you're willing to overlook that and view Serafina's relationship with Veor as a genuine romance, you'll be disappointed. The relationship develops awkwardly and stalled. Don't even expect a kiss from this mismatched couple. As for the characters, it's hard to find a single one who is likable. Veor is overly dense, Serafina is annoying, Cersei could be removed from the s…

Now, some people call this "The Stockholm Syndrome anime". But they could not be more wrong as Veor is not abusive or evil, on the contrary... But despite that, when they call this anime boring they are not far wrong... Animation and music: on budget, and it is obvious. But to the credit of animation team they really did their best at certain segments of the show. The models looks great and some of the environment looks amazing. But when battles start and some of CGI is added to the mix I can understand some people when they outright hate these. Music was standard quality, not good or bad. But at the same time barely noticeable. Overall - show is on the budget and it is noticeable, but the team did their best that everything beside major battles with monsters looks decent. Characters:…
