Takopi's Original Sin

Takopi's Original Sin

Introduction

After leaving Happy Planet on a mission to spread happiness across the universe, a pink squid-like creature lands on Earth. Things look bad when it barely avoids starvation and getting caught, until one day, gloomy fourth-grader Shizuka Kuze decides to help the strange life form and names it Takopii. As Shizuka comes back daily to feed it, grateful Takopii endeavors to pay her back by making her smile. However, that is not an easy feat—Takopii is oblivious to the complexities of human society and the fact that Shizuka's life is filled with hardships. No matter how desperate the situation, Takopii is always cheerful and determined to make Shizuka feel better by utilizing different methods and gadgets originating from Happy Planet, even as his mission begins to spiral out of control. I saw the cover. I saw a round, pink, flapping alien who looked like he belonged on a cereal box or a keychain at walmart. I thought, "Oh, what a whimsical romp about an alien learning the power of friendship!" I was wrong. After episode 2, I had my doki doki literature moment, but not in a good way.The protagonist, Takopi, is a "Happian." He comes to Earth to spread joy. The problem? Takopi has the situational awareness of a Roomba in a minefield.Takopi’s Logic: "Oh, you’re being bullied and your home life is a Elliot Rodger tragedy? Have you tried... this magical ribbon?"The result being 0 effect of the object's stated (and apparently real powers) and a more useful tool to give your neck a rug burn. Watching Takopi try to "fix" human misery is like watching someone try to put out a greas…

It builds up for a message that is not true at all. If a work ends with a message that is shown working, someone is inclined to believe that the message is worth their time. But with this anime, the thing that would solve conflits is tried at the half of the story and just don't work at all. The message of the first episode, of "rules are made for a reason", or however you may interpret it, is much more impactul and valuable than the message of the last episode. This anime had a lot of scenes to feel, but since the ending is so boring compared to the rest that you can't tell if it the desired writing or the author just gave up at some point.

Takopii no Genzai is a show that tries too hard to evoke an emotional response from the viewer. In doing so, it exaggerates the drama to the point where it becomes unrealistic, shallow, and ultimately irrelevant to the struggles of real people. Such drama is extremely unpleasant to watch. In Takopii no Genzai's world, there is no place for support or hope. Everything that happens makes the situation worse. Parents are designed to be as cruel as possible. The ignorant Takopi is brought to the world to bring more suffering to the children. Nobody ever stops and asks the children if they are ok. If all there is to this world is pain and suffering, what is the point? How can someone going through hardships gain anything from watching the furthest extremes of suffering? Takopii no Genzai says…

- First 3 episodes: 9/10: _ Trauma central. A good premise and a promising story of what is to come and how things will be resolved. - Episode 4-5: 7/10: _ It starts giving the vibe of old people trying to justify their shitty behaviors on past trauma. "I did all of this horrible stuff and almost killed you multiple times, but you have to understand that I love you and you should feel grateful, actually!" They tried their best to spin it on children because they get the most sympathy, but that should not justify any of the horrible things done in the anime. No shit that people aren't just born evil. Even Shizuka turns into a manipulative, derranged psycho in the end. But let people face their consequences! - Episode 6: 3/10: _ It walks back on everything it tried to convey. The anime has n…

People basically worship what they don't understand. If you look at this anime very logically, you will realize that you are not following a deep and meaningful story at all. Maybe the author was looking to write a very meaningful story, but he did a very poor job of conveying this work. But the majority are like this, because it has a dark and psychological atmosphere, we definitely don't understand it and it is beyond our comprehension, so it is a masterpiece, but they never think that maybe the author's work is really so weak that even he himself cannot fully execute what is in his mind. If you spend some time and analyze the story of the anime, you will really realize that in the end this show did not present you with anything special and the story in the final episodes was just put…

Truly a masterpiece. But very not recommended to normal, especially weak people. I think it has a warning on each episode for people with mental health issue not to watch. But it's a good watch for people who wants to be overwhelmed with feelings like sadness and depression. The storyline is good, the plot is kinda unexpected, but the revolution, like any other story, is very good. The combination of "for kids" theme, with psychology is diabolical. It's really not a good watch for children, new weebs, and weak people who can't stand negative emotions, so it's very not recommended. It's only when you've matured and can handle emotions that you can truly enjoy the show. Like other stories, it has many valuable life lessons you can learn to improve your life. You may not understand if you…

Before watching this anime, I expected a dark series dealing with various social issues and deep philosophical themes. But by the time it ended... It seemed like the anime was made solely to disturb the viewer, without any real meaning or massage. this even though it tried to show what the reality is but didnt feel realistic at all. Now you might say, “Well, it’s a fiction why are you expecting realism?” But here’s the thing: they still have to follow the internal logic of their own world. Unfortunately, this anime didn’t even make sense within its own setting. The second thing is you might say the anime was about the importance of living a good life in family. But honestly, where in the anime did you get that idea? all i saw was pain and suffering of the characters and it felt completel…

Takopi's Original Sin builds upon a deceptively innocent premise. The story follows a small alien named Takopi who arrives on Earth with a simple directive from a peaceful civilization: to spread happiness. Equipped with childlike gadgets and boundless optimism, Takopi assumes that sadness can be corrected with kindness and creativity. This assumption quickly collapses when he encounters Shizuka Kuze, an elementary school girl whose life is suffused with neglect, isolation, and relentless bullying. Her world feels claustrophobic. School becomes a daily arena of humiliation at the hands of classmates, while home provides little comfort. A fractured family structure leaves Shizuka emotionally abandoned long before the story even begins. Takopi observes these hardships with confusion, unable…

Not since the first time I pulled down my girlfriend’s pants, only to be greeted by a penis larger than my own, have I been so confused about what to do with, or how to feel about, this thing dangling in front of my face. Takopi’s Original Sin is a confounding show with good intentions; equal parts harrowing, nonsensical, and affirming. The show itself has about as good an understanding of compelling drama as its namesake does of the human experience. Some advice to aspiring comic book writers, mangaka, or anybody in any kind of creative storytelling medium, really: There are two very easy things you can do to ensure audience investment in a character. 1. Make the character in question a moeblob (or similar “cute” thing with smaller proportions) with starry-eyes. Everybody loves to root…

This was cheeks. Double caked up. Save yourself the time and skip it. Let’s keep it a buck, spoiler free, and to the point. “Shock factor doesn’t cover for poor plot and weak character development.” The one thing I liked about this show, was it had the stones to get dark and not play the soft game. Kudos. But that’s where the goodness ends. LOL this is just a show that depicts bad parents…reeallly bad parents. People might get off on the emotional trauma and make it more relatable than it needs to be….but all the parents in this show are cheeks. They make life difficult for their kids, but that dang octopus was one of the most annoying naive characters I’ve ever witnessed in anime. Not a single character in the show was likeable enough to make a favorites list for me. The plot was DRY. E…

Don't let the score fool you, it's just another show with no logic barged its way to a top 15 spot by having just emotional scenes. Throughout the story, it is very obvious that the author is creating a "survival mode" environment. Every adult is problematic, which lead to children being problematic and making horrible actions. Some has criticized that the show doesn't represent reality at all. It would not have been a problem if they spend an adequate amount of time mitigating the problems in the end. Instead, we get a very rushed, unsatisfying and unconvincing solution. This in turn affects the characters as well. As everything has to go to the worst outcome, characters have to take actions that bring a lot of plot holes. A lot of optimal actions are instead ignore. This makes our cas…

-🟡Summer 2025 The sin of this anime is being an irresponsible story and cheap show-pi Sigh...I put this anime off for a long time, and all this time it exuded an aura of uniqueness, which made me have high expectations, but unfortunately, this anime didn't live up to them-pi. It's a perfect example of the saying "less is more"-pi. What should have been a responsible bow to difficult topics turned out to be a spectacle of violence-pi....... Plot: "Into the bleak life of a little girl comes Takopi—a charming, naive alien from the planet Happy who wants to spread happiness on Earth." Takopi undoubtedly speaks about some truly important things. These are things that should be obvious to anyone who hasn't come from the planet Happy, but reality often proves otherwise. Takopi tells the sto…

This was funny as shit. It feels like watching an episode of Mr.Bean but instead of falling around and generally just failing at everything, the MC always gets the most miserable experience. The authors capability of miserymaXXing is truly incredible. If there's a happy moment, it's only there to build up kinetic energy for the eventual fall into misery. I don't want to spoil my favorite moment, the "original sin" but it truly was the epitomy of misery porn. Leading up to it you think "and now he's gonna do fucking X or what lmao" AND THEN HE ACTUALLY DOES IT. Honestly props to the authors for actually following through on all the suffering scenes and not just stall/cut away like some romance anime when things get spicy. The ending of this show really hammers in the fact that the author…

I've mentioned this before but I like to follow Weekly Shounen Jump. See if there's any new big hits I can get on the ground floor of, read the entertaining trainwrecks, and read some unfortunate casualties of the cutthroat table of contents. And one of the more notable flameouts was The Ichinose Family's Deadly Sins. Made by the same guy (guys?) who made this anime, it was an incoherent mess where everyone bawled their eyes out because their lives just sucked SOOOOO much. But they already made a successful series (this one)? How could this be? Was this just a fluke? Them trying to overcorrect from initially poor ratings in WSJ? Lo and behold, we come to today, where Takopii's Original Sin finally gets its anime. ...yeah, I'm sorry, fraud watch, this show is only better than Ichinose…

I didn’t like several aspects of this anime, and I’ll mention some of them here: The exaggeration in this anime is baffling. From the excessive misery simply for the sake of misery, with no real substance or context to support the horrors presented, the series comes off as juvenile and edgy, showing little interest in genuine thematic depth, realistic portrayals, or even addressing the very misery it parades. The show also exaggerates every abuse scenario to such extremes that, despite being rooted in real and traumatic ideas, they lose any sense of grounding. One example is Naoki’s overblown complaints about how no one appreciates his efforts, even though everyone in his class admired his intelligence and diligence and constantly praised him! I can’t understand why they felt the need to…

As someone who has never written a review before, this is the first time i have really felt that i actually need to write one. So starting with the positives, the show has fantastic production value with amazing visuals and music that perfectly fits the show. That's it. The problems with the show is that its just a giant misery pile, it feels like its trying to be sad for sads sake. The titular character is also very annoying. Compared to other shows that might have a character that is there as the positive one in dark times (first one that comes to mind is Nia from gurren lagann) but in those cases the character can at least understand the basics of how the world works, takopi is so incredibly daft that it actively makes me mad seeing him. Im not supposed to be rooting for the "bad guy"…

Takopi's Original Sin is a uniquely captivating anime, but rather than shower it in praise, I'm going to cut against the grain and explain why I think it's a bit more flawed than others may lead you to believe. However, before I get to my criticisms, let me begin with the positives that even a cynic like me can admit. In terms of production values, the show is a masterpiece. The OST is perfectly fitting, contrasting naive joy against brutal reality in a way that really makes you feel that eerie sense of unease at pivotal moments. The visuals are stunning, with bright and vivid colors being contrasted against the gritty and dirty realities in which these characters live. Enishiya nailed the juxtaposition of idealism and realism key to interpreting this work in animation, perfectly balanci…

Good build-up, well written characters, actually proper story along with premise and gimmick. Absolutely blew it with the finale. It felt like the writer had no genuine way to finish this story in the time they were given and instead rushed things along, landing us at an ending that truly didn't really resolve anything in an organic fashion even within the gimmick area that Takopi gives us. The anime had a good chance of rectifying this, but nonetheless it was a missed chance at actually delivering here instead of inadvertently roping one in for a completely unsatisfactory deus ex machina ending that doesn't feel warranted, does not answer questions, leaves things pretentiously "open for interpretation", yada-yada. Yeah, just don't watch this, my score only goes there because at the very…

Anyone can have a child, not everyone can be a parent. At its core, Takopi's original sin is a story about the negative impact bad parents can have on their kids and the cycle of abuse. It's a deeply uncomfortable, but all too real story of parental, emotional and physical abuse. The trigger warning that plays before each episode isn't just for show, this is a deeply unsettling story that will shake you to your core and shows you the absolute worst of humanity. It’s often misunderstood that good writing=making you feel good. No, good writing makes you feel. It makes you connect with the story and elicits a reaction, positive or negative from characters’ actions. Very few people have ever done as good a job as Taizan 5 here. Let me be clear, this is a masterclass in writing, build up, twist…

Takopi’s Original Sin is not the latest misery porn, nor is it an exercise in mere shock value. It is not exploitative of its sensitive subject matter and it does not aim to subvert conventional perspectives of death. It is not abstract or surreal. These are not what encapsulate Takopi’s Original Sin. It is, more or less, the inverse of each. Its gut-wrenching depictions cannot be surreal because they are literal. It cannot be totally abstract because it mirrors its own face value. It is exempt from accusations of exploitation because its dark events are seen from an overlooking view and earned by the narrative. It is too meaningful in how it deals with trauma to warrant reactive, emotionally illiterate labels like “trauma bait”. The many tragedies of Takopi’s Original Sin are witnessed by…
