Always a Catch!

Always a Catch!

Introduction

Due to her incredible athletic skills, Maria "Mimi" Annovazzi has been trained her entire life to inherit her family's duchy. However, the birth of her younger brother makes this unnecessary. No longer the heir, Mimi has to settle down as soon as possible, but none of the kingdom's good marriage prospects remain. She decides to travel to a neighboring country and transfer to the royal academy in hopes of finding a husband. Aida Amethis, a distant relative and Mimi's best friend, agrees to help her. Her trip turns chaotic when the future crown prince and Aida's fiancé, Renato di Rubini, mistakes Mimi for Aida and annuls his non-existent engagement to her. He planned to free Aida from the arranged betrothal so she could be with the man she actually loves instead. Although the misunderstanding is cleared, Mimi worries about her reputation after the scandal, so she asks Renato to help her find a suitor. Unbeknownst to her, Mimi's sunny attitude and fighting prowess capture the attention of the biggest catch in the whole kingdom: Renato himself! [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Erm, are ass-kicking noble girls a thing now? This is I think the third one I saw in the past year. Yes, when you see this hairpin, you immediately know where this is going. And yes, it would be going there. A fine and a little mischievous slice-of-life comrom without any sharp angles and edges or deep dips. Yes, comrom exactly because it's more 'com' than 'rom'. If you expect deep plots, you will certainly be disappointed, but if you want to laze down watching something funny for a change of pace, this one can become your one. It won't give you any roller coasters, dramas, ups and downs. One can say there's even no plot per se. After setting up the prerequisites in the first two episodes, it fully stops evolving and just concentrates on the daily life and all the mischief happening betw…

Actual rating: 7.5 Always a catch was a fun and pleasantly enjoyable show full of laughter and heart. The main character, Maria, and her love interest, Renato, were equally charming in their own right. But, when put together, they were so perfect for one another that you couldn’t help rooting for them. Similarly, the other characters in the show were all just as entertaining. Which isn’t easy to do in a story with multiple people involved, but l truly had no qualms with anyone! And like the characters, most of the other aspects of this show all follow the same sentiment - pure joy! That’s why it’s hard to have to give them a rating that’s not as high as I initially hoped to give. However, the problem is a large problem, even if it’s only one. And that’s the plot. It doesn’t really…

I started watching this show after my country lost the final of the word cup, I was very depressed and wadenring what to do and next this cross my screen. I think it was the best that could happen because this show is very good and I forgot about the final and I was fully immersed in the history. I really like the history, it is nothing of the other word but is really enjoyable and fun, the main focus I think that is a comedy history but has at points drama which is really well written and keeps you wanting more. The characters are the strong point of the show, the interaction between them the design and the curve of development is the best. The animation is really good and the scenery is well placed, although I don’t know what type of word is, it appears some type of medieval age but h…

Rating: 6/10 Honestly, it's just "okay." Art & Sound: Nice art, lovely vibrant colors. Fitting soundtrack (i rarely ever pay attention to such things, unless it's really good). This one was just nice. Mostly an uplifting or dramatic classical score iirc. Plot & Characters: Entirely forgettable & mostly predictable. I couldn't attach myself to the mostly one-dimensional characters (the "villains" were pure caricatures). Mimi stands out as a bright spot, tho; she was highly likable. I’ll probably miss her lively, spirited personality. Comedy & Romance: The comedy leans awkward _though a few jokes landed_ and the romance feels lukewarm, shallow & rushed, save for a couple of cute moments (Renato Denka can be swoon-worthy at times). Not a great romcom, not a terrible one either. Others mi…

Just finished Episode 12, and overall it was fine, except for one thing. I didn't actually ship the main couple. Our female lead is by far the best thing about this show. Not only is she funny, but there are countless moments when her free-spirited nature warms the heart of the stoic noble class, which is no small feat. It is one of the reasons I finished this show in the first place. I wanted to see her story and how she navigates a kingdom so different than hers. The problem is that in a romance, there is always two sides. And for me, I just couldn't like Prince Renato. Compared to Mimi, who is fun and well-written, Renato was just dull. He mistakenly mistook Mimi for his fiance (and her friend) at a party and broke the engagement in front of everyone. But then I'm just supposed to s…

Very enjoyable series. Yuu Serizawa's magnificent voice acting carried the whole series, not to mention Saori Hayami's angelic voice is a cherry on top. The only thing I'm disappointed about is that I wish there had been more action scenes featuring Maria...her character is really cool. Story is truly wholesome and lighthearted, perfect if you just want to relax while enjoying watching. Overall, it's definitely worth watching. Story = 7 Nothing too deep with the story, which is perfect. Characters = 8 Some characters are generic but i guess that's the point of the whole series, except Maria, I enjoy watching strong FMCs.

6.5/10 Always a Catch starts out promising. Conscientious Maria Annovazzi’s world is turned upside down after a male heir is born. She’ll do anything to please her family, even if it means marrying a suitor. The big problem? Her tomboyish nature prevents her from landing her catch. With a refreshing not-a-damsel-in-distress heroine and a comforting medieval setting, one can expect a fun, lighthearted comedy about a girl finding love in an unexpected place while proving her worth. Unfortunately the writers manage to take this fun premise and suck all the life out of it. There is no conflict, no stakes, and no story. Maria becomes a product of the plot and everything goes perfectly for her. Maria’s personality also begs the question why this story even needed to be told. Her wit, strength,…

Another o-kay entry to the growing list of historical-ish romance anime adaptations, “Always a Catch” is non-offensive but didn’t really make the landing IMO. My biggest gripe I had with this one was that the prince was strangely not present throughout the show? It made the serious developments in their romance difficult for me to believe because I didn’t have a good sense of his personality or why they even liked each other. When he was around, I liked their dynamic fine enough, but the way to make these 12-episode romances work is by giving the leads lots of screentime together, and this was severely lacking in that. That said, this show was certainly funny and charming from time to time, so if you want to watch something fun and light, you could do a lot worse than this one (though…

Right from the very first episode, I was genuinely surprised by how the story unfolded. Without giving away any spoilers, I can say that the beginning was a very pleasant surprise. It introduced a concept that, while simple on paper, felt incredibly fresh—honestly, it made me wonder why no one else had thought of this before. It is exactly the kind of clever twist that immediately hooks you. The character dynamics are where this show truly shines. Thanks to a brilliant misunderstanding early on, we are initially led to believe that the Prince is a typical dark, cold, and emotionless character. However, once the layers are peeled back and his true motives are revealed, it completely flips your expectations. It turns out to be incredibly sweet, wholesome, and packed with genuine emotion fro…

"Always a Catch!" is not the best, but also not the worst of its genre, I think. I liked that the heroine was not the typical damsel in distress, but actually capable of protecting herself, although there were some situations with which she needed help. And while the male lead was an idiot in the beginning, he quickly turned into a nice, straight forward guy, who openly shows his feelings for the heroine. All in all not a too bad romance, although I don't like how deep the feelings were for the amount of time they've known each other. To keep things short enough and spoiler free, I'll just say that the setting is pretty average, most of the characters are shallow, but the overall entertainment factor is fine enough to keep you watching. I didn't like the pacing of the show, because it…

This is a fantasy romance comedy where our MC catches the attention of the otherwise disinterested Prince and becomes his plaything. To sum up it's strengths and weaknesses it is best to compare it to anime of the same type It is inevitable that an anime will be judged against it's contemporaries, which is why this was always going to be compared to May I Ask for One Final Thing? as our MC's are skilled with their fists and are more than ready to punch evil doers, But it doesn't overuse the gimmick and seek to find a reason to have the MC get into a fight every episode, also the personalities of the MC's are totally different and Scarlet stands out as a better MC being more memorable. I would also suggest another comparison is Observation Log considering that they are both Comedy Fantasy…

"Always a Catch!" is a very silly comfort show that's something you watch when you're not looking for anything particularly high stakes. Something sweet, cozy, quick to the punch as to what it is... with the energy of the early 2000s anime and a chipper girl protag to boot shouting from the rooftops "I'm not like other girls!" There is little drama or conflict to follow in this show, as most of everything starts and ends with the very first episode. A wrongful accusation, a quick reversal when the protag steps up for themself and their friend, and then... smooth sailing. The whole anime is smooth sailing into an immediate relationship with the crown prince. He got his ass handed to him and quite liked it actually. So here's to the story of this uppity country girl who is a noble in her n…

While 'Always a Catch' provided some entertainment, it often fell into slow moments where the story felt a bit stagnant and lacked engaging elements. I initially appreciated the premise of Mimi, a strong lead who can defend herself, and the opening cliché of the prince breaking his engagement publicly was undeniably funny, especially the mix-up with the fiancée. However, the art style felt basic and didn't really stand out, but the ending sequence set in the ocean offered a nice visual touch. On a deeper level, I felt the characters lacked proper development, especially Mimi's family, and Ireneo who seemed crucial to the story but felt underutilized. I wanted to explore his backstory more. Additionally, I felt the main narrative lacked significant progression from the early episodes forwar…

It was great romantic Anime. Just for the background i Used to think 2-3 years ago that shojo anime are for girls but MAN i was wrong. I tried first shojo anime and it was great for me and then it was a streak of it. I watched all that i skipped before just to know that its shojo. I don't know what's your take on shojo but according to my book of defination, Anime that has MC as a girl is shojo. It was fun when i realized that these type of anime are good because i was bored and didn't had any anime left to watch so i found a new genre for it and loved it. To tell you this, This anime also revolves around a girl as you can know just by the title. But I Loved it. I could have give it Masterpiece but there is some points that could be better that's why i gave it great. Its not bad point i…

Always a Catch! is a very silly, yet very charming fantasy romcom. While it’s not entirely conflict-free, the bulk of its appeal lies in its main character as a tomboyish and societally awkward noble stumbling her way into an engagement to a prince. The chemistry amongst the core cast of nobles and royalty consistently conveys an upbeat and excessively comedic vibe as their eccentricities are drawn to the forefront, and their particular interactions with high society as a whole end up revealing a surprising depth to their personalities and the personal difficulties they have found themselves in. That said, it does also have a tendency to drift too far into its own silliness and cross over into the realm of the juvenile, with the middle arc of the series being the most egregious example of…

It's very sweet and enjoyable series. Unlike other anime it went straight to action. I mean the story. Our female lead and protagonist, Mimi, her actions, interaction with others were fun too. And the chemistry between her and male lead was entertaining and fun to watch too. The side couple story and chemistry were nice too. There's also no third wheel or useless trash stuff. It's a very wholesome story. There's few fighting scenes too, which are fun to watch. Our female lead/mc might be little goofy but She's not stupid. She knows how to handle situations and as well as j*rks. And similarly male lead, he's also not some little baby. His also strong. They both felt perfect for each other. Overall, It might not be a viral hit But it's definitely pretty decent wholesome story. Throughout t…

Normally, rom/coms need some kind of hook to make them stand out amongst the sea of modern high school stories. Apart from taking place in a European setting with no magic, the 'twist" here is that our main character Maria, an outspoken tomboy and former heir to her family's martial arts, is now seeking a husband. The reason being, her parents have finally secured a male heir. After visiting her cousin Aida and attending a party, Maria is mistaken for Aida by her fiancé, and in true otome game villainess fashion, is publicly dumped in front of everyone. Despite the strong start, Everything that follows is pretty bland by comparison. Being an Isekai fan, I enjoy the occasional detour into something fantasy/romance/period piece? that doesn't focus on video game inspirations. However, unless…

What a lovely romantic story this was. Rare is to see such unique female lead today in a story set for villainess anime genre. Sadly, outside female lead it is not doing much more originally. But that still does not mean it is not worth the watch, on the contrary... Animation and music: standard ones. Animation is on the budget but you can really see that they have put effort where it matters. Action scenes, the few ones we got, are done justice as well as plot important ones. Music is also good, the villainess like show vibe it is giving is great and it really fitting the genre. Overall - animation and music are fine, nothing bad and nothing good to comment on. Characters: Mimi is such a unique character and it is quite refreshing. Unlike most villainess shows, where the FMS is either…

"Always a Catch" centers around our heroine Maria Annovazzi, or Mimi, as she is referred to most of the time. Her journey is to essentially find a husband. It is a simple premise, but it does well in it. In the first episode, it does possess the typical cancelled engagement you see in a lot of villainess-adjacent series. However, it takes it in a much more comedic route. This series plays more like a lighthearted comedy where Mimi's character really comes to shine, and she is very eccentric in the best ways. She truly is a scatterbrained tomboy archtype done well. The Japanese title's literal translation is "The Fish I Missed Was Big, But I Caught Another Fish Was Too Big." Obviously the localized title is better, but the main thing for this anime is that she catches a potential husband…

It can be difficult to find a good husband in a country that knows you as the former heir to a duchy, but luckily there is a neighboring country with some promising marriage prospects. In Always a Catch! do we follow the young lady Maria “Mimi”, who recently stepped away from being the heir of her family and is now looking to settle down with a husband. The problem being there are no good options left and she therefore travels to the neighboring country in hopes of finding a husband. She then gets involved in some interesting situations and ends up catching the eye of prince Renato. The plot of the show has a very linear structure with us mostly following Mimi’s perspective and what escapades she is on. This makes it easy to follow the plot, and it shows little plot that is built up in t…
