Chainsmoker Cat

Chainsmoker Cat

Introduction

Yani is a catgirl with a seriously bad smoking habit. She smokes so much that her apartment smells like ash and is littered with cigarette butts—and plenty of other trash! Every time she tries to quit, she becomes weak to the cravings and gives in almost instantly. Will she ever get her life together, or is she doomed to live as a chainsmoking slob forever? This anime left a huge impression on me—though certainly not in a good way. Watching the first episode on a train was definitely a mistake. *Yani Neko* is about a chain-smoking, self-neglecting, and repulsive cat-girl. While I started to develop a bit of sympathy for the characters around episode 8—I even began to like the caretaker—every subsequent episode completely disregarded that progress, dragging everything back down to crude, toilet-level humor. It’s an anime about absolutely nothing; I’m genuinely baffled by the hype and the ratings it’s received. I understand that the intent may have been to highlight the disgusting nature of the addiction, but there was no need to depict it in such a graphic and gratuitous manner. Personally, the only thing I actually liked was the art style. Th…

When I say this is one of the most disgusting and repulsive series I’ve ever seen, I truly mean that. I gave this a chance because I thought it would a nice little comedy poking fun at tobacco addiction and encouraging smokers to quit, and while it does have some of that, for the most part it’s just low brow toilet humor slop mixed with bestiality, rape and a bunch of other barely disguised fetishes the author has. This show sucks for me. Its only saving grace was Imoko who would’ve made a much more interesting protagonist. I immediately regretted watching this from the first episode, unfortunately my no drop rule prevented me from dropping it, so I’m proud of myself for finishing this garbage, but that’s about it. This show is going to heavily depend on your sense of humor. If you like t…

I thought this anime at the start would be disgusting and bad and later on all the char get their life put together and make a comeback or sum but I was so wrong. It ended up being BS the entire time and no story no nothing. If you are a smoker maybe it would help you not to smoke but since I'm an otaku and not a smoker this anime was so mid. I really had hopes that it would change somehow but nope. Defo not a show for me and I don't think I would ever watch this again in any universe. There were pathetic comedic scenes which I didn't find funny and there is honestly nothing good abt this anime. The characters suck, No story at all, No character development but the only decent thing is animation but the story is so bad that good animation ain't fixing this.

Some chuds hear that a shows "disgusting" and rub their hands in excitement, like they're going to personally receive an award for not being put off by the subject matter and actually find it kind of deep/meaningful/funny/awesome - The social commentary is paper thin and you're either a) kidding yourself or b) too young to be watching if you think otherwise. Even though serious moments occasionally peek through, the consequences of characters' addictions is played for laughs and we are given almost no depth beyond one dimensional characteristics, no story or character progression, just a never ending loop of "look at what (x character) got into now! wow they're gross...but like with jiggle physics?" - Maybe I just don't watch enough recent releases but holy shit i thought the industry wa…

Yani Neko: The Triumph of Blue Curtains, or How to Force Intellectuals to Analyze Farting Catgirls "Yani Neko" is perhaps the ultimate phenomenon of cognitive dissonance in modern anime. If you scroll through dedicated anime forums, you will easily stumble upon blocks of text discussing a "brilliant deconstruction of moe," a "socio-political manifesto," and a "multi-layered satire on Japanese capitalism." However, if we cast aside the fandom’s Overthinking Syndrome (the classic "blue curtains" bias), what we truly see is a monumental vacuum, inflated by hype from three-page webcomic strips (4-koma). Form Without Substance The main trap of "Yani Neko" is its obscenely expensive production value. The studio poured a massive budget into stellar visuals, fluid animation, and a stylish openin…

The most accurate portrayal of what it is like to be a mentally ill woman with little to no family, very few friends, no chance at ever forming a career, no interest in wedding and basically only getting by due to being somewhat physically attractive and not really requiring all that many luxuries to live outside of personal vices. Just that instead of normal women it's cat women, making it a littles less depressing to watch. It's not like this is the first slice of life anime that portrays a crappy living situation rather than an ideal one, but it does things that happen in modern day which barely get talked about...and I'm not talking about the drug problem stuff. I'm talking about the kind of happiness you find even when you live in extreme poverty. Everything in media portrays only…

I can't believe all the praise this trash is getting. I know a lot of you praising it are probably edgy 13-year-olds and all, because boy, you must be pretty damn edgy to find this remotely funny. And even when I was an edgy teenager, I think my standards were a little higher than this. This anime is absolutely horrible. The cigarette and poop jokes were already getting annoying in episode 1, but they just kept reusing the same stupid jokes over and over again. I kept waiting for the comedy to get better, but nope. Same jokes, same shit, over and over. What a waste of time. I gave this anime a fair chance, which is why I actually watched all of it instead of dropping it. I thought maybe I was missing something, or maybe it would eventually click with me. Nope. I wasn't missing anything.…

I absolutely love works that are this original and push the boundaries. In this era when everyone is trying to appeal to the general public and can’t even produce anything ordinary, I wish there were more anime like this. There’s no need to beat around the bush or drag things out with fancy words—I’m crazy about works where creativity borders on madness. I believe art shouldn’t be restricted as long as it isn’t criminal. I’m glad they pushed the boundaries and created something memorable rather than catering to the general audience and producing something mediocre. It won’t appeal to everyone, but I definitely recommend it.

I’m gonna start this review with 2 facts because I wanna kinda set a bit of background for how I feel about this show. 1. I have never had substance abuse problems. I’ve never even lit up a cigarette. It’s just not my culture to say that Yani is Just Like Me FRFR 2. Nevertheless, my favorite movie of all time is Trainspotting. I rewatched it earlier this week to write about it for this review and yeah, it’s still a fantastic fuckin’ movie. This isn’t my review of Trainspotting, it’s of Chainsmoker Cat, so I’ll try and keep this section brief. I couldn’t help but think a few times during the movie just how expertly shot and directed it was and it’s really good at setting the mood it wants you to be in. It, both verbally and over the course of the movie, shows you the pleasures of doing…

The first episode gives off the impression of a plot centered around a cigarette addict, who has gotten carried away and desperately needs to get better, but that is a lie. There's is no plot. This is purely a gag show and plays like it's directly pulled from a 4 koma. The show leaves a strong first impression but quickly retreats into a standard gag show that is just gross sometimes. None of the characters are fleshed out enough to really matter, they are just familiar faces while Ms Yani Neko does shitty jokes. The lack of real personality makes the situational humor struggle, as you don't really feel like "someone you've grown to know" is reacting to something interesting. Things are just happening. Nishi is the one character that grows to be a bit like a real character with her own p…

Yani Neko has come to an end but the questions it throws up will be lingering for a while. While most will remember this anime for the outrage it caused on social media for being obscene, disgusting and shocking from time to time, it also displays many issues in society which occur because of systematic oppression. Beastfolk can't get just any job they want, they are heavily ostracized, get less paid, have difficulties to get married, end up in poverty and addiction and on top of that have deal with fetishization and more. It is a rare display of blatant honesty about the lifes of beastfolk/cat girls in a modern society and the question remains "Would our society do it differently?". About the overall quality of the anime: The intro song is a banger, the intro has over 100 references to…

It is very rare an anime like this comes around. I am not just rating Yani Neko so highly because its obscene and shocking comedy is hilarious, or because of the interesting commentary on poverty and addiction, or the commentary on racial segregation and the amazing worldbuilding and thought that was put into a world where beastfolk exist. My main reason for loving this anime is just how much the creators, animators, voice actors, director, and every single staff member love it. I feel like this anime is entirely a package of love, as the staff gathered around to have as much fun as possible with such a source material. "Seeing the staff" is something that you can rarely get with anime. And I felt like I was listening in on a bunch of inside jokes with the crew. Even just the little th…

After seeing a surprising amount of fanfare surrounding Yani Neko, and especially after seeing its absolutely reference filled opening, I decided to venture out and watch something I usually probably wouldn't. And let me tell you, this might genuinely be one of the most unhinged, strange and straight up WEIRD anime I have ever seen. The anime is disgusting. Let's just get that out of the way immediately. It's crude, shameless and regularly relies on dick jokes, sexual innuendos, toilet humor and other things that made me sit there wondering what exactly I had gotten myself into. But somehow... it's fun? I genuinely struggle to describe the experience. Some of the humor is incredibly crude and there are moments that are just straight up nasty, but I was entertained in this strangely morbid…

this is an updated review after finishing the entire season. i will leave my original early season review intact under the end of this review. my original review score of 8/10 stays. yani neko is a breath of rancid fresh air in the entire anime scene. and it's not as shallow as many think. it portrays mundane life in the forgotten corners of society and uses toilet humour to mask the very consistent tone of underlying depression throughout the entire show. first off, animation quality is one of the best in recent memory. the characters and their behaviours are artistically realistic most of the time, and artistically realistically gross some of the time. your eyes simply have nowhere to hide from the rancidity of some of the scenes. or, you just don't want to look away. the story itself…

Finally, this fucking garbage is over. The comedy in this anime is godawful. I hated probably 95% of the jokes, and by the end I was just waiting for this shit to be over. And Yaniko... holy shit, what an annoying character. She's easily the worst character in the anime. Her entire personality is basically smoking, farting, and shitting. That's it. Her stupid schtick got old in the FIRST EPISODE, yet somehow the anime kept beating that dead horse over and over again. I kept watching because I don't like dropping anime and I always give a series plenty of chances to improve. Well, this one never did. I came here for the comedy, but the comedy was absolute dogshit, so eventually I just stayed for the naked girls. And honestly, there needed to be more of them because they were doing a much…

Yani Neko or I should say Chainsmoker Cat has got to be the worst seinen anime I have ever seen and I don't believe this author know how to proper jokes. You get a catgirl Yaniko who is basically a broke ass loser. She doesn't do anything productive, she lives in a dirty place with no resilience. All she does is only smoke with her cigarettes everyday, everytime, everywhere and every episode and doesn't face any consequences. She promised she will give up cigarettes as mentioned in one of the episodes, but no there are no signs of changes, resulting in being an absolute disgrace to her sister, just for that Yaniko doesn't show any development or any improvements at all. I don’t have a problem with the main character who also goes out and hangs out with her beastfolk friends and enjoys wh…

Chainsmoker Cat positively surprised me. I'd come in thinking it would be just a gross-out shock comedy in the vein of Panty & Stocking (which it still mostly is, don't get me wrong) or maybe a more mean-spirited cringe comedy similar to WataMote, but behind its crusty, smelly exterior also lied an impressive amount of tenderness and social commentary. That's rather unusual for a medium not known for pulling its punches when it comes to punching down at social outcasts, isn't it. But first, some context. I was born in a country that went through a period of escalating poverty and disrepair that started in the early 80s and spanned the entirety of my childhood. This personally affected me and my family, too, of course; we moved often and I saw low-life adults in or around every neighborhoo…

Yani Neko, also known as "Chainsmoker Cat" or "If Asmongold was a Girlfailure and also a Cat for Some Reason" I've seen a fair share of well-made trash and badly animated gems, but never have I ever seen a show be so Godawful in some aspects and amazing at others with no in between. Watching this is about as confusing to the mind, soul and body as watching a Stanley Kubrik-directed snuff film, or listening to a Vivaldi-composed noisecore song at the Sydney opera house, or maybe stroking it to a Tool music video - your brain gets mixed messages that make you feel ways you've never felt before. This is like Mozart composing a piece on his scat fetish - oh wait, that did actually happen. Well, it's more like Metallica making LuLu - wait, they did actually make LuLu. Well...you get the point.…

A DISGUSTING PIECE OF NEKO THAT SURPRISINGLY DISCOURAGES VIEWERS FROM SMOKING, DRINKING ALCOHOL, AND INDULGING IN ANY VICES THAT WILL RUIN YOUR LIFE. If you have a weak stomach when it comes to seeing how nasty a person can be, avoid this! Don't watch it! This anime is not for kids, nor is it family-friendly. But if you don't mind filthiness and degeneracy in your comedy series, then I recommend watching Yani Neko. Aside from the horny landlord and the sexy cat who keeps blurting out terrible jokes, none of the characters here are normal. But then again, what is normal? All the characters here look like they're beyond salvation and redemption. I don't know if they're afraid of rehab or if rehab is afraid of them. One's a chain smoker, one's a junkie, one's a drunkard, one's a streamer…
