Digimon Tamers

Digimon Tamers

Introduction

Ten-year-old Takato Matsuda loves playing the Digimon card game with his friends and immersing himself in its imaginative world. One morning, he finds an unfamiliar blue card in his collection and swipes it through his card reader. Little does he know, his decision leads to its transformation into a D-Ark Digivice. When the mysterious device scans his designs for an original Digimon named Guilmon, it generates a Digi-Egg that later hatches into a living version of his own creation! Although Takato is thrilled to have a real Digimon, his idealized fantasy shatters when he realizes that his rambunctious new companion requires constant supervision. Adding to his troubles, Guilmon is targeted by Ruki Makino, a rival tamer who commands her partner, Renamon, to gain power by defeating other Digimon and absorbing their data. Luckily, Takato finds allies in his schoolmate Li Jianliang and his sassy Digimon partner Terriermon to help him on his journey as a real-life tamer. With sinister foes appearing at an alarming rate, Takato must strengthen his bond with Guilmon to protect both the human world and the Digital World. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Have you ever rewatched a series from your childhood simply for nostalgia, but realized its actually much BETTER than you remember it was as a kid? To my surprise, Digimon Tamers managed to do that for me. Digimon Tamers and Digimon Adventure are very different. DT features much darker and mature themes, with more realistic characters facing problems that feel very real despite its setting. It has all the power fantasy tropes you'd expect from the series, but it takes its narrative and characters to very original, unexpected directions. There is no "chosen one" trope here. The humans and digimon are not destined for one another, they must choose each other out of their own volition and develop their bonds in order to adapt to a new life of kill or be killed, because in Tamers the digimon…

(Perspective based on viewer of the English dub) Digimon Tamers is my favourite anime of all time. The execution of the story and character arcs is up there with some of the best for any TV show. This show is very funny. The humour is so well written for a kid's show, In fact, most of the jokes you would have missed as a kid. However, it is also very dark. There are moments which may disturb you, make you shed a tear. Themes of friendship, adventure, loss, grief and growth are all prevalent. I am struggling to form the words necessary to express how good Digimon Tamers is. It has been 17 years and it still has not been displaced as my number one anime. I hope, if anything, this review will at least reach one person and convince them to watch Digimon Tamers.

So much can be said about Digimon Tamers, but not many people seem to value it outside the internet community. I actually first saw Tamers many years ago, as a pre-teen. I used to dismiss Digimon as a worst version of Pokémon, but, when Tamers was re-run in Portugal, I instantly became hooked, watching it daily. However, as a kid, there is a simple choice process - why watch Digimon, when Pokémon is the original creation, has better designs, better videogames, bigger community? While these are mostly subjective factors, people probably wouldn't argue against this. While Digimon always tried to bring more complex elements when compared to many other shounen, on the previous entries, the first series also present the same mistake that I hate about most Shounen and School anime. There are sim…

Basically, Digimon Tamers is a good show trapped within a horrible show. The Good: The characters are quite well-realized and their growth is interesting, especially Ruki and the ties between her character arc and Renamon's powerset. Impmon was surprisingly engaging as well, and I enjoyed tracking the subtle development Culumon underwent. Beyond that most characters, except the one-off monster-of-the-week baddies were fairly likeable; the adults were surprisingly well individualized and the side-kicks did not feel like they were wasting my time that often. The overall themes present are ones I sympathize with, and they were explored with some nuance. The general art direction was hit or miss; I liked the backgrounds, but the digimon designs range from pretty good to awfully overdesigne…

*This review may contain some spoiler* Before we start let me say this. Wow the series went dark fast. Story: This is different compare to the first 2 seasons. Unlike the first 2 seasons instead of not exiting, It become an anime inside an anime. Get it?? To make it simple, The kids in digimon tamers watches digimon on TV (never shown in the anime), play the card games and know the existence of digimon. Now here is the main difference between the first 2 seasons of the series and this season. The kids didn't went to the digital world to meet their digimon. It started out in the real world until they have to go to the digital world to save one of their friend, culumon and to meet the real enemy the D-reaper. Which I pee my pants went I was 5 years old. The D-reaper uses a girl katou juri a…

For me, Tamers is the most excellent digimon series out there. It has solid and understandable story background and the story doesn't focus just for one person. Story : The story is interesting, it’s about tamers and its digimon. In this world, they have game call digimon card game where they can fight with other digimon by using cards to power up. Although it seems just okay for the story, i give 10/10 because later on you will learn many things from this anime such as how to let go someone you love, parent’s love, and how not to judge something from it’s cover. I love the idea of combining human and digimon in one body and evolve to the next level. Art: the animation is good, i really love the animation when they evolve and the music is just perfect with the animation. I give 9/10 S…

It boggles the mind why so much anime try to prove their maturity by using bleak colors, adult characters and realistic design. Digimon Tamers has none of that. On the surface, it’s a child-friendly battle shounen about kids and their cool pets. A surface is easy to copy, though. Putting things beneath the appearance is harder. Like Medabots, Digimon Tamers is a subversive, original and challenging work that doesn’t think children are stupid. This is not the dull Adventure, which was just about beating bad guys. Evil is not being fought here. It’s an anime that imbues its adventure with ideas and emotions, rather than just telling us the bad guy is powerful. It constantly raises questions and it stares suicide, depression and death in the face. A truly meaningful and engrossing journey w…

Tamers isn’t perfect by any means. But being ambitious enough is what makes it good. Tamers isn’t also your ordinary kids anime. Written by Serial Experiments Lain’s writer who drove inspiration from NGE. Tamers is one hell of ride. The story of the Tamers begins like a generic Digimon anime. DigiDestined meets their digimon, for exception that they are not transported into the DigiWorld. Tamers start slowly, building it’s characters and the setting around them. The appearance of the Devas made it seem like it was a generic Digimon anime. Not necessarily a bad thing. They are only setups for the last stage. Tamers shines when it’s nearing its closing. DigiDestined especially Jeri Katou, learned what despair means. The final episodes are focused on Jeri’s development until her realization…

There are people who say the first two seasons of Digimon were the best ever, but then there are people like like me that would MUCH rather this season. I accidentally watched this season before the others so that might contribute to my bias but compared to ALL the other seasons id much rather the dark turns in this story. And for some reason i feel like the animation was different from the other ones too (different studio? i didnt check..)

(This review is based off of the English Dubbed version of the series) I've been a digimon fan for as long as I can remember, and the first series, digimon adventure, has always been my favourite due to the nostalgia. That is until I watched this series. This series has so much depth and character development to it that just makes it an extremely enjoyable anime for digimon fans and general anime fans alike. Compared to the first two series, this one has a much darker plot, but still retains that air of light-heartedness in the comedic moments. The plot is very well developed and progresses very well once it's really kicked off around episode 12. It has several layers of character development to explore, so you can look into it as a kid would, and just scratch the surface, or you can thin…

"Good and Evil are not absolute. It depends on how someone see things. While the point of view shifts, everything else does as well." -Chou Sensei Yes, that's what I got from Digimon Tamers. Tamers isn't same like your previous digimon series, its settings are completely different and the content is also different. I can say that Digimon Tamers is the only Digimon series that cling to its original concept. I originally watch it for nostalgia when I was watching on TV when I was just 9 years old. But after I grew up, it really made me surprised of how kids show can become so controversial like this. I heard from people that the story is darker and edgier, in reality it doesn't seem to be really dark, it had quite a lot of heartwarming and sweet moments, it didn't just being too serious.…

Surprising what a touch from Lain head writer Chiaki Konaka offers up for what is supposed to be an animated advertisement for a children's card game. Digimon Tamers offers up a number of unique spins on the franchise that make it the best offering of the franchise I've seen. Perhaps the darkest installment of the franchise, Tamers dabbles into elements of cyberpunk and is mostly set in the real world this time around instead of having our human/ Digimon pairings whisked away to the Digital World. Not to mention that Digimon is treated as a popular media franchise within the world of Tamers with our human leads playing a trading card game based on the franchise that is popular within their world and they use trading cards to enhance their Digimon's abilities while in combat. Tamers has se…

This is the third Digimon series and one that had a very challenging road ahead: after Digimon Adventure 02 essentially failed in the ratings department, another sequel (Adventure 03 if you might) would most likely be unable to deliver the audience the franchise so badly needed. So it was boldly decided that the best way to gain new viewers was to star over, from scratch. And there's no better way to make old viewers watch again that the concept "What if you could create your own digimon?" while also appealing to new ones. As such, Digimon Tamer triumphed and saved the franchise by denying it had a past at all and making a whole new world and timeline from scratch. Sure, there are callbacks and common elements, but Tamers (and so Frontiers, Savers and Xross Wars) decided that it was the be…

I loved Digimon as a kid. Recently I tried watching the first two seasons again, but they were completely unwatchable: as you went on there were so many evolution sequences that they could take up half an episode, the music was horrible and they just regurgitated the same songs every episode, there were no stakes of any kind. None of these things mattered when I was younger, but I couldn't ignore them now, and I just had to stop watching. It was completely on a whim that I took up Tamers after that, but I wasn't expecting much. As you can probably tell from the score, I was completely blown away. The storyline is incomparably better than previous series, in that, well, it actually has one(other than "collect the next thing!!"). It does take a few episodes to pick up the pace, but once it…

Digimon Tamers is the third anime in the Digimon series. The Story is an Alternative version of the First two seasons and everything will be more advanced and digital than things were in the first seasons. Digimon Tamers is a story that comes with Humour, Heartbreak, Cruelty and much drama. The story as it doesn't take place after the first two seasons revolves around Takato Matsuda who has always been a majorfan and a regular player of the Digimon Cardgame as this is the only relation people has of Digimon in the real world. One Day Takato stumbles upon a blue card that will turn out to change his destiny. Drawing pictures of the Digimon he would like to have if Digimon existed in reality he eventually ends up with a Digivice with a unhatched digi-egg inside.. This is the start of Taka…

I've watched every single season of Digimon, starting with Taichi's season, all the way to Takuya in Digimon Frontiers. This one was my favorite, not because of the plot, but mainly because of the idea of the card game to use Digimon as partners in visual combat. Renamon is my overall favorite, and though at first, I resented Rika( Riku, in English)'s attitude toward Digimon, they became my favorite pair. I do think that since it was one of the earlier anime, the graphics are not that impressive, and sometimes, it isn't a good idea to show crying men, because that isn't what they are supposed to do. Being Filipina, I watched the Tagalog version, and the dubbers used dialogs that made the series something where lessons are learned. I enjoyed watching it, and the part I liked best was that t…

I liked the first two seasons of Digimon as a kid, they were the only ones they aired here in Finland. After some years I matured and began looking down on them. Let's face it, the idea that ENIAC, the world's second computer, was capable of twisting space-time and created parallel dimension where computer data took physical form and gained sentience on its own, and then interacted with human kids' emotions to reconfigure the data to combat monsters, was quite silly, and the show mostly served only commercial purposes. (This creation of the Digital World is explained in the Wonder Swan games relating to Digimon Adventure 02.) The plot of the first season also was quite nonexistent, fighting one big bad with world-domination fantasies after another. Then, after many years they decided to…

Well, being as there are nothing but pro digimon tamer reviews, I figure an alternate view point is in order. First off, I like the original digimon. It was simple, but fun. Lot's of cool creatures, fun characters, cool battles. It delivered what it offered. I also hated the 2nd series, (notably more then tamers), i found it boring, repetitive, stale, no form of character development outside 1, and set ups for multiple things that were never explored, just an over all disappointment. Now, on to the topic at hand, Digimon Tamers. I've read nothing but reviews stating how amazing the plot was, so I'll start there. The plot was, stupid. Basically my main issue with this anime is, it tried to be something it's not. Anyone even suggesting this is in any way similar to evangelion should have t…

Well what can I say? The first two series was ok but this one was just so awesome....I haven´t seen the Japanese version but the English version was heck awesome. The story is good but too short but yeah,it´s still awesome. The way Impmon wanted to digivolve so badly was just great and he seemed like those type of characters that tries to be like a villain but fails and always comes out good. The way Guilmon wants to eat bread most of the time is just too darn funny for words! So yeah, if you have spare time then you should watch this anime.

Okay for all you who watched the first series of Digimon, you may have not enjoyed it, well...neither did I. Until Digimon Tamers I always thought of Digimon as a fairly...boring and plain anime...Digimon the tamers...has a plot that to me...kind of resembled evangelion where angels come to conquer and they have to be stopped... But in the form of massive Digimon...all the characters are different so you can see where their views clash. Riku was more of a lean mean ass kicking machine who was relentless and gave no mercy, she thought of Digital Monsters as nothing but pieces of data. The other characters beleive in the power of digimon and them as real creatures. This becomes obvious very early on in the anime. There are three main digimon / heros of this unlike the other series where th…
