My-Otome

My-Otome

Introduction

In the Kingdom of Windbloom, Arika Yumemiya enrolls at Garderobe Academy to become an Otome—a virgin girl who is able to use a HiME (Highly-advanced Materializing Equipment) that bestows destructive abilities. Arika also wishes to find her mother who was a Meister Otome, an Otome of the highest rank responsible for being the personal bodyguard and super weapon of the specific nation they are assigned to. While attending the academy, Arika makes friends with Nina Wáng, a distinguished Otome student, and Mashiro Blan de Windbloom, the current princess of the kingdom. With them by her side, Arika quickly adjusts to the academy's environment as she spends her days eagerly training, navigating social relationships, and developing her skills as an Otome. However, Arika soon realizes that the process of becoming an Otome is fraught with dangers and unsavory political dealings. Bombarded with numerous personal dilemmas, Arika must make many sacrifices if she truly wishes to achieve her goals. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Perfect character development. It's so hard to find another anime that has similar features as Otome. Two youthful and sour heroines coming-of-age story that doesn't need a boy to save them, robots, henshin scenes, battles, master-and-"maid". I am a woman and I enjoyed this very much. I love watching stories like this where the heroine develops. The romance fuels her growth, but it's not the end of the story. She gradually goes through a variety of adventures to discover what she wants to do and what she wants to get out of it. The only ones I can think of in the same genre are probably "Slayers" and "Chihayafuru". Also, I found that this wasn't a very mainstream story, that's why the production group of Sunrise threw themselves into the Idolmaster series after finishing this series.

Things I want to clarify: -Mai-HIME ends with them wanting to change the world, so if I'm not mistaken, this universe is what they changed it into. -Most, but not all of the characters from the season before are in here. And no, Akira is not Mai, she's a look a like of Mikoto. -Episode 17 only exsists in English DUB so prepare for hell. I found the story of this season a lot stronger then Hime's story. Instead of killing of all the characters you just met, you actually see them evolve. Not just physically but also mentally. Everything is also explained instead of just calling it magic. The art is also better, I disliked many expressions from Mai in Hime, but it got a lot better in this season. Overall I recommend this anime, you can watch it without having seen Hime and it's more fun.…

Humanity lives on a broken desert planet. Past warfare, conducted with vastly powerful weapons, has rendered most of it a lifeless desert. Advanced technology is still around, but no longer being produced. Science is regressing, rather than advancing. The power is in the hands of a mostly aristocratic elite, who rules over their countries with the help of “Otome”, users of one of the most powerful technologies remaining. The ability to create Otome rests with Garderobe, which also guards and restricts access to this old technology. This school is the lynchpin of international relations and at the center of a mutual defense treaty. In it, young girls are brainwashed into devote servants of the aristocrats who sponsor their transformation into mighty Otome. The story kicks off when main pro…

Crazy exciting and dramatic action adventure! Mai Otome (is also known as Mai HiME Z [z for zwei which is German for 2]). This is a 26 episode spinoff of the original Mai HiME series. The storyline begins in the far future, hundreds of years beyond the time of the original Mai HiME story. In it we find a curious mix of characters who are similar to, but not the same as, the original Mai HiME cast. Our hero in the Mai Otome series is the young Arika Yumemiya, who was an infant of a famous Otome (guardian valkyrie maiden) who was miraculously saved from being killed by assassins in a war waged during the time of her birth. She comes as a refugee to the land of Windbloom, hoping to enroll in the Garderobe Otome school to become an Otome herself. The plot is complex and as in the Mai HiME s…

One of my top series. This and its other series (Mai-Hime, Mai-Otome: Zwei and Mai Otome 0: S.ifr) has one the best stories I have watched ever. At first it may seem like another modernized/hi-tech sailor moon anime because of all the girls, but it isn't and it really packs in so much in the total of 50-60 episodes?? The characters bring out so many emotions, so many real world problems to light and they all fit so well into the story. The story is amazing. The connected-ness between Mai-Hime and Mai:Otome is so mind-blowing to be honest, they really did the sequence story well. So different but at the same time SO connected. The spin-off OVA's don't add too much to the main story, but are very interesting to watch either way. You have to watch the main series twice at least to capture…

Haha second review! WARNING, there are spoilers in here so if you haven't watched this anime yet then read at your own risk! no but along with the review. Mai-Otome was quite an interesting anime to watch, when i started it out i was saying "what the heck?!" quite a little bit because it was interesting how it played out. Like with the yuri like moments and all of that. and with Arika' head turning into an ant head whenever Serge called her "Antsy". But even then i stuck with it and i'm happy to say that I had made a good choice with sticking with it. The storyline for it was very good and the characters where put together quite nicely. The artwork was very nice and pretty crisp. and the enjoyment i got from this anime was high. But i'll start to go into the categories for how i rated it…

Having watched Mai-Hime, Mai-Otome & Mai- Otome-S.ifr. Just to update the anime information. Mai- Otome is a sequel to Mai-Hime set in the future. Watching the Otome series will give the references needed to see this. so this is not a alternaive universe setting.

I found this anime interesting because I saw the prequel. I'm glad it was different and set in a parallel world. It reminded me of Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari beause they select female champions to fight for different countries. It also answered some questions about what happened to the previous winners of the carnival. The Main characters were more immature though which was somewhat of a let down. All in all it was good to see the sequel.

A snappy review... This anime is an absolute classic in it's genre. The story, the art (which grows on you).... everything about this anime was outstanding. The characters in particular were captivating. There's a bit of everything in Mai Otome... action, adventure, romance, friendship, and betrayal. I cried many times while watching this anime. I also laughed my head off too. Nothing could have been added to the story to make it any better. The only room for improvement in this series would be in the art and sound. A very moving addition to Mai Hime and in my opinion it even outshines it. If you loved Mai Hime, then you will love Mai Otome.

My-Otome is nothing less than a total disaster as far as I'm concerned. This semi-sequel to 'Mai-Hime' is one of those shows that tries to combine many different genres such as comedy, action and drama into one; but it is a colossal failure in every way imaginable. The basic story is, like many aspects of the show, incredibly derivative. It's the tale of a young girl named Arika Yumemiya who wants to enter a highly prestigious school called Garderobe where girls are trained to become an Otome, unbelievably powerful warriors who serve as vanguards of a country's militia. It is through a series of bafflingly outrageous coincidences that our young heroine manages to enroll at the normally way out-of-her-league academy and from then on, the story kicks off. Doesn't sound very original, doe…

This is sort’ve what I was looking for when I watched the original Mai-HiME...but something just wasn’t there again. I can’t put my finger on it...but it just wasn’t there. Well, at least it wasn’t laced with cliques again; it only had a sprinkling this time around. Mai-Otome is alright, not downright horrible. Story/Plot/Dev Mai-Otome is very, very different to Mai-HiME. It essentially just uses the same character models, and most character names, from Mai-HiME, but places them in a totally new universe. Think of it like getting every character from Harry Potter, wiping their memories and then placing them in space. Something akin to that, yeah... Mai-Otome focuses on a new lead, Arika Yememiya, on the planet Earl. Earl, a planet colonised a long time ago by humans, is very much like a…

Mai Otome is one of my favorite Anime. The Story is wonderful but lacking, many substories are missing and not mentioned in the series but the good thing is that they are releasing/released prequel (Mai Otome 0~sfir) and Sequel (Mai Otome Zwei) where the story becomes clearer as more and more details are revealed. The art is good, the costumes are exotic but not often found in the series maybe due to the civil environment. Vibrant colours though. The sound tracks used are great some are memorable especially the ending theme but sometimes you need to concentrate more on slower tempo tracks which reflects the mood of the scene. 2 Mai Otome characters got a in my character Fav. Arika Yumemia, well this character can easily top your characters favorites (it already hit the top spot in my ch…

Mai-Otome was the next series of the “My/Mai” franchise, with the first being My-Hime (which was an excellent anime IMO). However, Mai-Otome was almost completely different from My-Hime, with the exception of most of the secondary characters. Even with this in mind I had originally dropped Mai-Otome halfway through the 2nd episode when it was originally airing. Due to the incredible praise of many fans, well half of them, I decided to give it another try and do a marathon. I had originally dropped the series because of Arika. While it can be argued that both Mai (My-Hime) and Arika are both optimistic and energetic characters, Arika took it too far. Coupled with a childish/naïve nature, Arika was an extremely annoying character. Her combined with Mashiro, the distinct op…

Though it's not necessary, I recommend watching Mai Hime first. (Besides, it's better by at least a full point, in my opinion) This is not a true sequel from the character point of view, as only one character is *actually* the same person, with the same memories. (Everyone else looks the same, and may even have the same personality, but they have no memories of their Mai Hime self) If you've watched Mai Hime, you can probably bump the overall score of this from 7, to 8 just based on how much you'll giggle at/appreciate the ridiculous amount of subtle (and not-so-subtle) references. The characters are, for the most part, very convincing and the plot is half-decent, but I found the way it ended especially to be underwhelming. (Kind of like Mai Hime, but worse IMO) I don't want to spoil any…

First off, please don't flame me as this is my first review. As a guy familiar with Mai HiME, I expected myself to have no trouble adapting to Mai Otome. However, the first impression I got for Mai Otome was total confusion. This is largely due to all sorts of new names (both terminologies and characters). In fact, it was the characters at first that made me put the show ON HOLD! (That was after watching the first 3 episodes). I had some very hard time liking the main protagonist Arika at first. Maybe I was trying too hard to compare her with Mai (from HiME), but eventually I grew to liked Arika mainly for her "stupidity" ^.^ Mai Otome introduces some debatable relationships among the main characters. Such as Sergay X Arika or Sergay X Nina (both of which are considered to be father X da…

For those of you who've seen Mai-HiME would notice the obvious similarities between the shows. Even with all the similarities Mai-Otome still has a lot of great original material to be different from Mai-HiME. Allow me to apologize in advance because I will be referring to Mai-HiME a lot. ^_^ This time around the show follows the story of another redhead, Arika and her dreams to become one of the greatest Otome. Against all the odds she luckily manages to enroll at Garderobe (the academy for Otome) bringing her one step loser to her dream. The story follows the same trend as in Mai-HiME; starting of as a fully-fledged comedy with hilarious moments. This light-hearted anime is later turned into something much more serious as the story goes on a major plot-twist. This adds a good sense of d…
