This movie was not centered on Violet but it's still a good one. Violet developing friendship outside of her work circle was very much welcome and refreshing. I just wished she and Amy really did reconnect at the end.
Taylor's character was so cute. I'm so happy she got adopted by the Evergarden family and will fulfill her dream. She's a ball of sunshine in that winter.
We got to see more of Benefit... and dang, what a baddie. Have you seen those heels? I would love to be friends with him and strut on the streets with those heels. I'm happy he was cheered up with Taylor's presence.

Not as good as the 2020 film but a heartfelt story nontheless. This actually felt like two episodes squished into a movie. It's basically an extension of the original series, only it's longer. With the music, the pacing, and the longer runtime, it definitely has more of that "cinematic" feel. However, it doesn't add anything new to the Violet Evergarden formula. It still tugs at your heartstrings but it's more or less the same as any episode. First half of the movie kinda threw me off with the Yuri-baiting. For some reason, Violet's dynamic with Isabella felt really weird considering Violet is in love with the Major. By the second-half of the movie, I got really invested in Taylor's story. Plus, we also get to see more screentime from Benedict. I just wish they gave Benedict more personali…

This movie is an absolutely stunning addition to the Violet Evergarden saga, and it completely won me over. I was already a fan of the main series, but this story hits all the emotional highs and lows that make this franchise so special.
Art: 10/10 - A Visual Masterpiece
Kyoto Animation has done it again. The art is simply breathtaking. Every single frame looks like a hand-painted work of art, from the vibrant colors of the gardens to the soft, gentle lighting of the indoors. The detail is exquisite, right down to the character designs and the subtle expressions that convey so much emotion. It's a feast for the eyes, and I could just watch it for the visuals alone.
Story: 10/10 - A Tale of Love and Longing
I loved how this movie focuses on new characters while still keeping Violet at the…

It came back to me knowing that this was the second time that I saw this movie. I saw this back when it was on Netflix and in Japanese. So I've watched it in English. Back then, the first time, I thought it was wholesome on its own since it takes a new route with a couple of new characters who call themselves sisters despite not being blood related. Now, seeing this a second time, I will admit that I love it more than the series. The story centers around two sisters in what I would call this movie a two parter. A two parter as in seeing these sisters who were orphans during the same war that Violet had been a part of during her series. The first part, or half, of the movie centers around Violet Evergarden going to an all-girls private boarding school to assist one of the students named Isa…

A good point I saw in another review and that I have to agree with, is that this film is a perfect introduction to this studio's work: a good story that doesn't necessarily require having watched the entire series to understand, paired with Kyoto Animation's impeccable visuals and a soundtrack that never disappoints.
Visually I don't think I even have to mention how good everything looks, I would say it is even better than the original series on that part. Every scene, room and landscape meticulously drawn, I could screenshot any frame of this movie and it would serve as a good wallpaper. Exactly what I usually expect frm KyoAni.
Not to mention that the second half of the film feels like a tribute to everyone lost in the fire that occurred at the studio a few years ago, paying homage t…

This is one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen
Plot Summary: This story illustrates another chapter of Violet's journey during her time as an Auto Memory Doll. Isabella is a noblewoman who has been enrolled in an all-girls academy to be groomed into a dame worthy of nobility. However, despite her privileged position, Isabella feels trapped by the expectations and constraints placed on her by her family, and the emotional turmoil has left her feeling isolated. Her family notices her struggling in her lessons and decides to hire Violet Evergarden to personally tutor her under the guise of a handmaiden. During their first few days or weeks together, Isabelle treats Violet coldly, judging her perfect mannerisms as an outcome of being born with a silver spoon. However, as they spend…

I was hoping for some world class Yuri after feeling quite disappointed after the santa claus special, but it was just fine I guess.
Animation beautiful as always, though that's something to be expected when you're dealing with Violet. Sometimes it looks so beautiful I Feel like it's all just passing me by, so overwhelming.
The story was ok. I wasn't expecting the time with her little sister to be the bulk of it, I thought we'd be spending way more time at the school. The sister dynamic is interesting, and it went somehwere I wasn't really expecting; but it didn't blow me out of the water or anything. Lil sis's relationship with Benedict is cute though, and I liked it.
Movie was nothing special overall, but not insulting.

tl;dr: A decent enough side story type sequel film.
This film is a sequel to the main anime series, and thus the main series should definitely be watched before watching this. It is essentially composed of two deeply connected standalone episodes, though they’re less interconnected than I expected considering that they’re two halves of the same film. The first act focuses on Isabella York, a girl that was living an impoverished life until it turned out she was actually the illegitimate child of some noble and was then thrust into a boarding school to mold her into someone worth marrying off. She hates her new life, however she accepts it because in exchange her new family also provides for her adopted younger sister. For some reason that I don’t think is ever really explained properly, Vi…

This anime movie based on the Violet Evergarden anime was actually good. I won't lie but I did not feel the way that I felt when I watched the series so, i ranked it low.
STORY
The story was really good. But it includes a lot of emotion which is not a best anime for me. The story was soooo emotional and no action sequences were present. We got to see some action in the main series but not here.
ANIMATION
The animetion was awesome. No words. All the scenes were animated beautifully. So, if you want this anime for animation go on this is a perfect anime for you.
CHARACTERS
The characters were well written. The new characters that they introduced in this new movie has their own sad backstories as always. So in the character side, they got a good caste of characters.
So at last i would…

It's got the usual strengths of the series with some excellent visuals and a strong, emotional story, though it lacks the thematic throughline that has typified much of the rest of the series by making it relatively unclear how Violet grows in this one. It also doesn't help that much of the central conflict is explained in one line: that the lead's adoptive father is disallowing a meeting between these found sisters. Not sure how he's preventing it, but it seems a bit more manufactured than previous tension, and it's kind of strange that the older sister ever tried to send a letter before Violet arrived. Still, it's a lovely story that pushes Violet outside of her comfort zone several times while showcasing some talents we haven't seen before, has some potentially interesting dynamics with…

Thank you for making this! This special is amazing. I just cannot get enough of the Violet Evergarden universe!
The Story: Basically about how an important minister's "daughter" was going to be trained and married off. But as it turns out her background is a bit different. No spoilers though! It is super good. My only gripe was it was a bit slow at times but thats just me.
Animation: Beautiful. The character designs are immaculate. Even side characters. They are all amazing. The scenery animated amazing. I can see all the character's expressions it is all animated perfectly.
Music: I liked the music.
Why you should watch it: If you liked Violet Evergarden, this special is a no-brainer.
Final Score: 8/10
Thanks!

"Violet Evergarden: Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll" is yet another emotionally rich tale which is canon to the show "Violet Evergarden." The animation and background score are as AWESOME and BRILLIANT as the show. The new characters are given proper characterization. The eternal love and trust between Amy and her adopted sister Taylor is portrayed very nicely. I absolutely loved the character of Taylor. It was because of her that character of Benedict learnt to realize the importance of his job and got some much needed character development.
The biggest shortcoming in this film is that the character of Violet serves the only purpose of uniting the two sisters. This is an inconsistency as the movie is supposed to be about Violet. Nevertheless, the movie is a good continuation of the plot…

Violet Evergarden is a masterpiece, with top-notch animation, a marvelous soundtrack, and a wonderful plot. Overall, Violet Evergarden captures human emotion so brilliantly with a simple concept that some things are better expressed in the written form of letters. I had no idea of what an auto-memory doll is before watching, but it is a real profession, and while less common today in the era of the telephone, the idea is that dolls are paid to capture the essence of someone's thoughts/feelings in writing.
This first movie is skippable, it doesn't contribute significantly to the overall growth of Violet in my opinion. It is episodic like the series, so quite possibly can be watched after seeing only the first few episodes of the main series). While this movie is very good, it has its odd m…

This is a mostly spoiler-free review.
Like always, Violet Evergarden is beautiful beyond the comprehension of my brain and more content just made me feel good.
Story- 9
The movie's overall story has the recurring theme of war and its impacts, as does all of the Violet Evergarden franchise. The 'broken relationship' theme is the main one explored though. Despite being a slice-of-life anime, there is a slight plot twist in the anime
(when it's revealed that Amy was actually a war-orphan)
but it is surprisingly calm throughout (maybe because it was expected?).
Visuals - 10
Violet Evergarden has always been the pinnacle of visuals but this movie, IMO, has no frame that can't become a wallpaper. Kyoto Animation have outdone themselves, especially with the sister duo's…

I remember when Violet Evergarden’s first trailer came out. There was nothing but hype from a community that could witness first hand a big step for animation. There is nothing in that trailer but the promise for something great, with a recurring theme in the comments that anime, once again, was saved, whatever that means. When the show itself finally came out the community’s response was the biggest shrug in existence, despite the fact that the animation absolutely lived up to what it was promising. It’s the story where Violet Evergarden lost its audience.
The show itself is clearly aiming for consistent emotional responses from viewers, but lacklustre characters and clumsily handled melodrama led to the impact consistently falling short of what it was obviously aiming to achieve. I desp…

This movie was absolutely terrific for most of its runtime with incredible art and stylistic choices, amazing parallels, beautiful character growth and a wonderful soundtrack. I would have rated it a masterpiece (a 10 on this website) if not for the issue I have with the ending.
While in the movie Taylor does state her reason for not meeting Amy, I just feel this is an unrealistic situation where this very young girl would ignore her instinctual idea to go and not only meet her sister who she has been forcefully separated from for years but also forego comforting her sister as she begins crying due to Taylor's first letter to her. Not only did it not make sense realistically, it didn't make sense for the plot line as it seems to me as if that's what the movie…

Violet Evergarden. Where to even begin with this beautiful anime? The journey Violet undergoes to first understanding the meaning behind three simple words. It's transformative and incredible to witness her metamorphosis as the series goes by. Now this movie comes along and completely ushers Violet in new territory and unfamiliar environments. She learns about there being different forms of love, but all have one thing in common: It's a love for someone else. Someone close to them, weither that be a lover, family member, or a friend. Love is complicated, it hurts, but is the one true thing all the characters have hope for.
I Story: 10/10

A solid movie for the most part. It delivers what makes Violet Evergarden unique in the medium of anime from the tone to the dialogue to the way it was directed. Nontheless it was a decent film that could even be considered better than some eps of the series. It stayed pretty consistent throughout but I felt like the plot was a repeat of the same scenario in one of the eps of series.
We see some supporting characters again but very few had any lines other than Bendicit who actually played a bigger role in the later half of the movie.
The art and music are absolutely brilliant not even surprised as to how they constantly keep that work up in that part of the department. The movie's visuals probably suprasses that of the series.

Violet Evergarden I: Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll
The film had a lot of potential in the beginning, but unfortunately, I hoped for too much in the end.
The concept of the film was interesting and could almost come from a Disney title. The animations were once again overwhelmingly beautiful, and this time you got to see skin. I was wondering how the anime managed not to have any bathing scenes, but here we had 2, so this was chopped off.
The Ova's plot revolves around a girl Violet practically teaches "manners" and slowly opens up from an introverted personality. The second part of the film was less interesting because it was pretty transparent and dragged on like 2 anime episodes in which nothing happened except for the last 5 minutes.
However, the most interesting point about th…

Extended lore for Violet Evergarden! This should be exciting, right? In truth, although the story does hit hard a little bit by the end (no spoilers), this movie doesn't do it as well as any episode of the original series. Even episode 12 is more emotionally gripping (and that one's not great). It's too bad we don't have a continuation of the original story, as I hear the 2020 movie retcons a bit too. Watch at your own risk.
Art: 6
The second half looks just as nice as any Violet Evergarden episode, but without the most dramatic scenes. The first half doesn't feel like like Violet at all. I don't know what happened.
Sound: 5
I can't really remember any music really. In the Japanese version, there's a young child whose voice is kinda annoying. Imagine the little girl from episod…
