Adachi and Shimamura

Adachi and Shimamura

Introduction

Somewhere in the school at noon, one might hear the sound of two girls playing table tennis together as they wait for time to pass by. As if by fate, two students—Sakura Adachi and Hougetsu Shimamura—stumble upon each other on the second floor of the school gymnasium. As they gradually foster a budding friendship, their feelings for one another only become more ambiguous. Growing closer by the day, the two must learn to navigate their contrasting personalities as well as determine the depth of their affection for each other. The nature of this relationship gradually shifts when one of them starts to develop feelings beyond the boundaries of a platonic relationship. Even so, Adachi and Shimamura must realize if forming a bond stronger than friendship will bring them closer or tear them apart. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

A pleasantly mature and grounded romance anime that is significantly lacking in its plot development and animation. As a duo, I like Adachi and Shimamura. It's refreshing to see a couple where both characters are mellow but also subtly delinquents. Their banter is calm and clever. And it's nice to see the story from both of their perspectives, making them a pair of co-protagonists rather than protagonist/deuteragonist. Adachi, in particular, is a well-written character. She's timid and keeps a lot of personal information to herself. She means well, but at the same time she grows more and more eager in her feelings for Shimamura. This results in a unique nonverbal style of expression for Adachi, and she has to work on the struggles she causes for herself and Shimamura from her lack of comm…

Adachi to Shimamura is one of the best girl-on-girl romances you'll find. While it's a bit slow and the relationship doesn't progress much, that's typical for this kind of story. The personalities of both characters are very believable; they both behave like teenagers in love, experiencing first love, including jealousy, insecurities, not knowing if the other feels the same way, and mundane things like not knowing what gift to give. I'm satisfied with how the story ended. The dialogue is fun and interesting, the voice acting is lovely, and the actors do a good job of portraying our protagonists. Don't expect an explicit or advanced romance, but it's sweet enough to spend an afternoon watching two girls discover their feelings for the first girl who understands them.

This is the first review I ever write and to think I would write it for this... This is probably the first anime I've ever watched that has made me feel genuine frustration, disappointment and anger by the end. I got well invested by the end of the 2nd episode. The way the side characters were introduced also felt like they should have been pretty easy to develop and yet by the end nothing happened. Every side story went nowhere and didn't get resolved in any way, even the characters that had the best synergy suddenly disappeared only for them to get a random continuation in the final episode with once again 0 development. Also what is up with the "alien", feels like more should have been there, if you delete her scenes in the show only 1 episode truly changes. That aside I still would…

The premise of two socially withdrawn girls unexpectedly discovering each other is intriguing, yet the plot progression feels minimal despite some advancement. While the visuals are undeniably strong and effectively capture the anime's melancholic, dreamy atmosphere, the characters present a frustrating paradox—the series filters their relationship through abstract philosophical meditation on love rather than exploring genuine romantic development. Adachi's perspective dominates the narrative with theoretical observations, while Shimamura maintains emotional distance, showing little investment in deepening the connection. This is the series' critical flaw: despite being marketed as Yuri, it delivers philosophical musing rather than authentic romantic moments, leaving viewers seeking…

I remember liking this show so much when it was airing. I rewatched it again earlier this year just to see if it still holds up, and I went ahead and read the manga, which I ended up loving. I must say that this is one of those shows that might be special to a certain group of people. There's no way that the author is not self-inserting themselves when it comes to Adachi as a character and what she does, says, and how she expresses herself. I could relate a lot to Adachi, especially in the light novel/manga (I read beyond the events that happened in the anime, which kept getting better and better, but for this review, I will be talking about the anime here). Btw, this is the only yuri anime that I have seen, so as a person who is new to the genre, this may be a solid entry to the genre, at…

It's a very cute very slow-burning anime without any conclusion. I still think it is worth watching because it is really sweet coming-of-age story about two outsiders, 1 who people get along with pretty well but she doesn't want to be around them and 1 who is just really introverted. However, if you are watching for the relationship, although its cute it doesn't go anywhere in the anime.I wouldn't call it subtext, it's very obviously stated just doesn't go anywhere. I 100% recommend the Light novel though. The anime is primarily from one character's POV whereas the Light Novel gives both characters' POV.

it´s an okay love story- pretty cute at times but i cringed a few times as well and it feels like a mother daughter relationship sometimes but over all it really isn´t bad, just nothing special. Also, there is a bit of fan service included which i personally really dislike. Personally, i thought the side characters were much more interesting than each of the protagonists... The story does feel like this could be how a girl realizes her feelings for another, however, at some parts, it feels as if the anime was made for guys who want to watch a girl blush over another lol

if you are looking for GL with actual development, this one isn't really a good choice. sorry. the best way i could summarize this anime in a simple way it would be "slow-burner". It has cute moments, it has the yearning, but at the end of the day this anime felt way more like a slice of life between a shy girl that crushes on her friend that just kinda goes with it. I did like this anime, but i cannot stress enough how much of a disappointment it is for people looking for more *yuri* animes. the characters are really interesting, i loved their very unique takes on things like dealing with people you dont know, how life goes on day after day, and relationships being very complex. I cant say i didnt absolutely loved watching it, but i think i was only able to enjoy it because i knew abs…

Unfortunately it lacks a sort of conclusion, even if we acknowledge that it's a half adaptation. It's a good story with barely any "payoff". It's an interesting yet sweet story about how 2 girls pursue a connection despite having really messed up social habits and values. On one hand Shimamura fails to value people who make an effort befriending her, she just goes with the flow and acts like she makes an effort, she's very self aware about it too and basically accepts how she is. Adachi on the other hand is a very stand-offish personality with no friends, yet with Shimamura she tends to be jealous and selfish even, all while being insecure with ton of self doubt. Well the last part is true about Shimamura as well, but they have very different ways dealing with their insecurities. But towa…

This is a standalone review of the anime adaptation. The original material is beyond the scope of this review and is not a factor for consideration. Story: The story had a simple premise and a simple promise, but was executed brilliantly. The progress was clearly marked, but the payoff was a little underwhelming. The pacing is deliberately slow to support the slow-burn romance that this series offers. One of the support characters, a self-proclaimed alien with actual superpowers, is something of an oddity, however, and her existence sometimes intrudes on the otherwise grounded plot. Character: Both main characters were written and portrayed very well. Both main characters had a small, but appropriate, amount of character growth. The side characters are also generally likeable and are giv…

I wanted to like it but I just couldn't. I love slow romance and slice of life, so that's definetly not a problem for me. I feel like the series falls into a lot of tropes and doesn't do anything intersting with them. The way a few elements at the beginning make you go “okay, these characters have room to grow, so lets see how it evovles”, but when they don't do so is a bit frustrating. I feel that ultimately the main characters have a bit of an anti-dynamic, as they are sometimes horrible to each other in very subtle ways. One seems to be very openly into the other, who whether or purpose or not acts entirely oblivious. Shimamura I still don't quite understand what her character is, and the series doesn't want to explore that in any meaningful way. She sure thinks about stuff a lot, but t…

"Adachi to Shimamura" has such a cute premise which is incredibly wholesome. Two students, Sakura Adachi and Hougetsu Shimamura, cross paths on the second floor of the school gymnasium while skipping classes. Their friendship gradually deepens as they grow closer to each other throughout the story. This had the potential to be something truly special, but the potential feels a bit wasted. There's two major issues which feel out of place and have no reason to be part of the plot. First, the story includes an alien who randomly appears dressed in a space suit, and the characters react to this bizarre occurrence as if it were completely normal. As much as I wish I was making that up, the alien then takes the form of a blue haired child. Her only purpose towards the early parts of the season…

I loved Adachi to Shimamura and I heavily recommend this to anyone who likes similar anime such as yagate kimi ni naru but here are the things I think it did well and what I think it could’ve done better. This anime has great story telling where it shows you the perspective and inner monologues of both characters which is my favourite way for romance to be portrayed as it shows you what the relationship means to both people rather than just one. This anime is also very cute in its portrayal of the relationship with a kind Shinamura who has almost everything go over her head and a shy Adachi who tends to get jealous and protective of her seemingly first friend (I haven’t fully read the rest of the story so I may not know something or a I may have forgotten something but Adachi has always…

There has always been a tendency of yuri anime/manga to be excessively dramatic and/or portray what one would call "toxic relationships" - this anime makes no exception. We'll elaborate on it in a moment. The impression I had of the two main characters was... well, bad... but then I remembered they're supposed to be teens on their first romantic adventure, and it all made sense. If they were two adult women, I'd be put off by how utterly childish they both prove to be, but since they're kids, well, for them to be childish and inexperienced suddenly makes a lot more sense. Hougetsu Shimamura. This girl... honestly creeps me out. Some of her lines ("if she disappeared, I'd just forget about her in 3 days"... wow, you go girl...?) and attitudes would warrant her a place on a spectrum of so…

It was so cuteeee. The character development is a standout feature, with Adachi and Shimamura undergoing significant growth as they come to terms with their feelings. The anime captures the vulnerability, joy, and confusion that come with the exploration of one's identity and emotions during adolescence. Visually, this series is a treat, with a soft color palette and subtle animations that perfectly complement the emotional atmosphere. The overall aesthetic enhances the viewer's connection to the characters and their evolving relationship. The positive reception when this anime was live is well-deserved. It resonates for its sincere approach to the yuri romance genre, offering a refreshing and heartfelt experience <3

In the 12 episodes we spend in Adachi & Shimamura's world, there is not much to be said in the way of romantic development, but it succeeds at being a masterclass in wholesome, wind-down relaxation. Adorned in high quality visuals and animation, alongside a strong pair of VAs in our main cast, each frame looks, sounds, and feels lovingly crafted. The soundtrack, and, more importantly, where it is and isn't used is thoughtful, creating great intimacy in its silence. Despite the low (if not nonexistent) stakes, the emotions explored later on hit hard, and with the excellent, believable dialogue on display, the show overall is surprising in its maturity even though it's another high-school romance. It is unashamedly a slow burn throughout, and the developments that have occurred by the end…

I don't know why But I felt it was a bit more boring and sluggish than the manga or novel. Maybe it's because of the first person point of view, which I don't think is suitable for presenting it in the form of an anime. It made me feel uncomfortable and cringe at times. The sequence of the stories was also confusing. Even though I've read the manga before, I'm still puzzled. And what about people who start watching from the anime first? I'm sure they wouldn't understand actually, there's another first person point of view anime like 'bloom into you' but they presented it in a much more intuitive way. Because it's only a short period of time, and go back to the story in the third person point of view.

When i watch the first time i really really have A high hope that this will be a really good yuri Anime since a lot of people recommended it to me Saying it's very good anime but i think they are WRONG since it was just alright honestly it's so Allright that hibike euphonium has more yuri Scene than the main couple, I feels like the Couple In this anime didn't really have that much Progress, to the point that the side characters Feels like much more better to watch if you're Loooing for a yuri scenes I feel like i didn't really say that much about This anime because of how bland this is but i do Recommended this if you like yuri bait anime but Even then Kyoto Animation made much more better Yuri anime than this and it's not even yuri well Anyway 5/10 because Bland

One of the best gl's to get an animation in a VERY long time, for anime-only's I'd recommend reading the light novel because this story is extremely investing. This anime portrays the day-to-day progression between the relationship of Adachi Sakura, and Hougetsu Shimamura. These two characters at first glance seem to be almost identical personalities wise, however, as Adachi begins seeing Shimamura in a different light, she changes. The development between these two characters (Specifically) Shimamura is incredible and definitely one of a kind. This series DEFINITELY has some of the most UNIQUE gl characters you will find. The pacing of the anime is also great, you won't be sitting there wondering when this will happen, or that will happen, the ending also ties in directly to a potential…

‘Adachi to Shimamura’ should go to the trash for its ridiculously slow development of story. The plot is kind of realistic, however, word realistic is a derogatory term here talking about plot. In the domain of non-politically related plots, realistic means mediocre or further, dull. The heroines talk and think about the same things in each of the 12 episodes, but no fundamental difference is made. In the end, it seems that nothing do occur. The heroines literally do nothing for their romance. The plot is only flavorless water; the climax is hot water, which is hot but still flavorless. Compared to the dull plot, the animation is good, but this does not necessarily mean this anime is good. The soul, the absolute center of a fiction is plot. There is no way to redeem a dull story with a…
