Note: This will be a review of both seasons.
Overview:
It's rare that an anime that gets a lot of praise upon release ends up fading into obscurity, but that's exactly what happened with "Aldnoah.Zero". Initially regarded as a mech series that even detractors of the genre could enjoy, nowadays you'll rarely see anyone talk about it, and sadly it's not hard to see why. While it's a great series in some respects, it's lacking in just as many, and ultimately falls short in achieving what it allegedly set out to do.
Story (6/10):
"Aldnoah.Zero" is set in an alternate version of the 2010s, several decades after an ancient alien artifact was discovered on Mars, resulting in the colonization of the planet, the discovery of technology called 'Aldnoah' and the building of the Vers Empire leading…

6/10 ~ So close to greatness
This is a review for both season 1 and 2: This Gundam knock-off clone of a show was actually decent and sits up there amongst some of itis peers as a not horrible standalone. If you watch it in English Dub you will immediately recognize many of the charecters from Iron Blood orphans, SEED, and Build, such as Kira Yamato (also as the MC in this), Uno Takaki (IBO), Flay (Seed), Lafter (IBO), Echo (IBO, Naze and many many more. The plot and how the store was originally started was a bit interesting but at the end of the day was a bit of an underdog story (that didn't last too long that way). The powers of the boss monsters was interesting, the music was alight. The show atleast in the begining wasn't afraid to kill off characters, show trauma and have built up re…

Aldonoah Zero is like a guilty taste for me, the first season I loved in its artistic design and its Worldbuilding I fall in love at the first moment, but being realistic is an average mecha anime, the argument although it is not bad tends to be very simple and although I love the idea that the Terrans are in such a disadvantage that they have to devise complex strategies to be able to fight against the technological domain of Vars. But my problem is that throughout the series we see the protagonist being the only one in practically the entire planet to be able to devise feasible strategies. I do not see it wrong but I feel that with such Worldbuilding they could have seen a larger scale and also because personally I am not a fan of the types of anime where the protagonist who is a genius…

I'd argue that this is a hidden gem. It's certainly not perfect, but it's definitely very underrated.
Although there are some plot holes and cases of "why didn't they account for that," the plot still manages to deliver, and I'd give it an 8.5/10. It follows an Earth-Mars conflict with circumstances that make you sympathize for both sides at times. Mars has overwhelmingly superior technology, and Earth barely has the ability to fight back. Our protagonists are on the side of the Earth and are determined to survive and bring an end to the war. At times, the story makes you sympathize with people on both sides from the conflict by showing you their point of view. Although this story is very different from AoT, it definitely shares a lot of the same DNA.
Some of the best parts of this stor…

Some sci-fi worlds feel unrealistic, but Aldnoah.Zero builds one that’s disturbingly real and grounded—where war is ugly, power is abused, and no one walks away unscathed. The tech is possible based on the world logic and science.
Characters are likable and well developed. Their whining and nagging make sense and doesn't mess up the story. Women are strong, smart but still feminine and conventionally attractive which is great and refreshing. They didn't make them obnoxious and unlikable.
Mecha animation and action are logical and plausible. It doesn't go around power tripping everywhere.
The tech even though not fully explained can be analyzed in a logical way based on the Ancient Civilization technology. So, it is indeed believable. Science that we have now IRL is still primitive, an…

It's not as god awful as many say but this shit is absolutely NOT a 7.39 (the current overall MAL score) like what the hell, at best this is somewhere between a 5 and 6 overall score.
A lot of the show is just mega generic, but basic doesn't always equal bad. It rhymes in the way action anime is supposed to and even though a ton of plot points make no sense I can feel the beat and pretty much can always predict what is gonna occur next. "Isn't that a negative?" Yes and no. It's been a while since I saw an action anime that doesn't constantly try to fit in some kind of bizarre humor or random fanservice into moments that are supposed to be taken seriously. There are moments like that but they're so short you barely notice them.
What is an absolute negative though? The cast, holy shit I ei…

I liked the anime. It's well-crafted. The background story is told well, sometimes very condensed, but I think it's enough and interesting in just a few minutes.
It has good action, the battles are based on ingenuity and logic rather than pure power, which I like. It has good scenes, good designs of robots and machines. It has a good rhythm. I really liked the music, especially the ending that ends episode 4, "AlieZ." The anime moves you and keeps you hooked.
If I had to give it something irregular, it would perhaps be a little more emotional connection with Inaho, because although he is a character with a phlegmatic character, in my opinion, I feel that he lacked some way or element to connect with the viewer at the level of his motivation or his relationship with the rest of the charac…

It's one of the greatest mecha of 2010 and that is exactly why you should watch it,DONt watch it for romance the forte of this anime is the mecha and fighting of the greatest mc there is and can be in mass production suit taking on godly suit. That is what this anime is.
Absolutely watch it.
The style is fitting for mecha
Don't care about the princess and other girls, you are supposed to go in watch for the mecha and action
The creators researched every possible way a mecha should be as action.
The series is enjoyable for everyone except the romance genre. This isn't romance genre really.

Aldnoah.Zero it's just bad.
I personally don't enjoy mecha that much, so if you are just like me, you'll probably gonna dislike this anime.
The characters seems kinda off, totally underdeveloped. The story doesn't lead to anywhere. The only solid thing about this anime it's the animation.
The characters lack a lot of things and they can be really annoying and nonlogical(?), the anime fails to built anything that will back up the characters actions. Looks like a brainstorm that didn't filter anything and produced this anime. It's just appailling.
As I already said, the only "good" thing about this, it's the animation, and even with this, it's not worth watching. I wouldn't recommend this even if it's the only thing left in the world.

In my opinion, this is the best Mecha anime of all time, not only about robots, but romance, action, and some very good plot twists.
I've been watching this anime for quite a long time, around 2017 until now 2024, I've re-watched this anime about 4 or 5 times or maybe more, I don't remember much about it, but what is clear, a good anime is an anime that will never make you bored when watching it repeatedly, in contrast to a bad anime, which only works on one viewing, and not a second time.
This anime has a quite interesting story, about the technological differences between Earth and Mars which causes quite one-sided conflict. However, on the other hand, there is a main character who is able to defeat the enemy, even though the difference in technology does not make him flinch from givin…

was Decent till the last episode. Can't even get through 3 minutes of the 2nd season without being pissed off. Just one of those anime that starts good but ends up crap. Also the CGI was meh at best and horrible at worst. I never really liked CGI in anime in the first place though so take that with a grain of salt. Also the MC is the least memorable person of the entire cast. He was so dull and boring and just would Ex Machina out of ever situation. If you wanna watch a good mecha anime with a similar style of rebellion and big brain people i HIGHLY recommend Code Geass, way better.

Well, well, well, it seems we have ourselves an anime with a title that sounds like it was created by throwing darts at a board filled with random words. Aldnoah.Zero, what does that even mean? But fear not, my dear reviewer reader, for despite its ridiculous name, this anime is actually quite thrilling.
Set in a distant future, Aldnoah.Zero tells the story of a war between Earth and Mars, and the battle for control of a powerful technology called Aldnoah. Our protagonist, Inaho, finds himself caught in the middle of this conflict, as he and his fellow soldiers fight to save humanity from destruction.
Well, isn't this just a smashing good anime with its epic battles and intricate plot twists? It's almost enou…

I was going to originally give the series an 8 then a certain character was so incredibly stupid and yet immediately forgiven that I'd internally docked it to 7 because I hate that cliché. "Oh this person did this horrible stuff but let's just forgive them and trust them now for no apparent reason."
Then I saw the ending. The ending is worse than Game of Thrones. There exists in this series a man of overwhelming power. The overwhelming power of stupidity. Yes indeed, the stupidest man across two entire planets. I won't say more to not spoil this dumpster fire of an ending. But it brought my score down from a 7 to a 3. It was THAT bad.
Realistically speaking the show never actually deserved a 7 or 8, I'm just a big softie. It was probably a 6 at most. The problem beyond the sheer retardat…

Imagine being multi-planetary species only to get ruined by some princess from the MOON and then all of the sudden the mecha-mecha suit soldier were controlled by some random soldier that out of nowhere can be a top officer just because his first love being stolen right from his eye, that kind of story
If being boring from a storyline perspective then this anime is no go for you but what can I say after seeing the animation and then the super genius sound designer that can control this garbage to mediocre at least.
From how it goes nothing good coming from this anime except how good the art and sound design so there you go, 7

Plot armor on Inoha is so thick that even Deucalion cant penetrate with full force. Its ok that he tries to figure out the enemys specs and adjust himself and his team to annihilate them but he should have been death when he got shot. He got shot with a bullet from his eye. EYE. Aldnoah.Zero is an anime with a lot of potential for a morally gray plot and characters that goes beyond simple action. It has an exhilarating, tense, and gripping premise from the first episode and the second and third continue this premise with seemingly high stakes and a war that looks complex, misguided, and morally gray.
After those three episodes though, it becomes increasingly apparent that there are no stakes and hardly any complex characters. The anime sets up an interesting plot and high tension, only to show mostly shallow characters and a more black-and-white conflict than it seems to want to portray, all with action that's meant to be tragic, but that comes off as mindless fanfare. That's not to say this anime has strengths and I'll get to that, but let me just say that Slain…

Aldnoah.Zero
If I had to describe the anime, it would be this.
It-An an anime that tries so many right things and always fails miserably.
I tried to enjoy this uncreative soup, I did my best. This is the unwanted child of Gundam and Code Geass that no one asked for. And that's how it feels. The only area where the anime won me over was in the creativity of the fights, in terms of the enemies' weak points. This seemed less impressive in the long run, as the "The Protagonist" is the defined Jesus, and through his limitless IQ, pathetically destroys every elite opponent, no matter how powerful, with his little training robot.
You can freeze everything around you? Shoot giant laser beams? Anticipate movements? Create storms? Don't worry, [The] Protagonist is the definition of a walking kill…

Aldnoah.Zero was a waste of time
bad characters
bad development
bad story
inappropriate and forced ecchi garbage
MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD
the story starts with a princess from space wanting to visit earth for peace negotiation, when she comes down, terrorists attack her, space people blame earth and war begins (WW1 rip off!) i don't like the characters in this anime, the princess is one unrealistic motherfucker, she constantly talks about peace and love and rainbows and unicorns, cringe af, and she is careless about her situation, she just reveal herself left and right to people who could be enemies
then we have inaho, this guy has ZERO facial expression whatsoever, was that supposed to make him cool? it just turned him into an uninteresting person
and lastly we have Rayet, she lost her d…

My first ever ten goes to this beautiful mecha masterpiece. Such a severely underrated anime like this is a diamond in the rough. This anime has increased my love for mechs tenfold.
The story itself is amazing. From the very beginning, with its establishing shots and a quick rundown on the events of this world, you can already tell that this anime has so much that it wants to show us. A mecha anime where war between Earth and Mars breaks out is such a simple premise but is used amazingly here. Sometimes I felt confused about certain things, but I did end up understanding it all in the end. The overarching story is so well done and seeing it unravel as we go is such a good feeling. You don't even need to be a fan of mecha anime to enjoy this to its fullest. You can tell that the creators p…

I'll be honest here, I'm not a HUGE critic on anime etc. so don't expect any details about the art, sound etc. as I know what I like and dislike and enjoy typing out my thoughts.
This anime I thoroughly enjoyed. The anime does a good job explaining the strained relationship between the Martians and the Versians (Earth and Mars inhabitants) as a background aspect of the story. It had a very decent start on the first episode that made me think "that was cool" and decided to keep watching it.
The dual protagonists whose point of view you're seeing the story unfold from both offer an important part to the story. They kept me interested in what was going on and intrigued to see what was going to happen next.
Now, some of the cliffhangers this season had was amazing. You could've easily fit a…
