Alien 9

Alien 9

Introduction

Soon after entering middle school, Yuri Otani is coerced into joining the "Alien Party," a single-minded group with one goal: capture any alien attempting to enter school grounds. Terrified of aliens her entire life, Otani is anything but thrilled, and to make matters worse, her kit includes a "Borg"—an alien-like creature tasked with ensuring her safety. Despite this, she finds solace in her two partners: the independent and reliable Kumi Kawamura, and the smart and energetic Kasumi Tomine. As the Alien Party works to fend off extraterrestrial threats, will their roller blades and lacrosse sticks be enough to overcome the dire challenges ahead, or will they succumb to fear and suffer the grim consequences of defeat? The world of Alien9 is very similar to our own - the only real difference is that Aliens is a daily occurrence and happen so often that schools are forced to have their own fighting force to defend the school ground. For every 6 months a new student are voted for and selected by each class to be part of the new school fighting force. Three girls was selected this year for protect Elementary school no. 9. Among the selected fighterz, Yuri was chosen and wasn't very particularly happy with result - rather in fact, she hates aliens, she's frightening by them, she hates touching new and she just want to go come and cry all day! But no matter how much she cries and complain - there is no quitting and her duty remains. To fight and protect! To aid the three girlz, they are all given a "Borg" t…

I cannot say for certain what Alien 9 is ultimately trying to say, but this is how I interpreted it. To me, it is a story about the fear of growing up. Joining the Alien Countermeasures Committee and being forced to coexist with the Borg felt like entering the adult world: becoming part of an organization, being assigned responsibilities, and having no choice but to adapt. What makes it frightening is that the girls are never truly ready for any of this. The world simply demands that they accept it. Even the Borg feels symbolic in that sense. It is something foreign that attaches itself to the body and eventually becomes part of everyday life. Growing up here is not liberation. It is being incorporated into a system and changed by it. And no one is coming to save you. That is what…

I Think The Blonde Girl Is A Pokemon Alien Nine is a show about a girl who is being bullied into being an alien hunter, and is constantly fighting the anxiety, to not pass out. In its heart, it's a show about puberty, about showing the many nasty sites to getting to the age, where you can no longer avoid it, but this time it is shown with alien metaphors, by getting licked all over. Being forced to grow up too early, being surrounded by boys who want to penetrate you, It's very much feels like a very curved ways of telling the metaphors about growing up. and how I feeling connection with all of people you can deal with it. The world feels so interesting, a place where aliens are so normal that it's not even weird that, school girls are the one that have to clean up after them. The mus…

Alien 9 was alright. With only 4 episodes, it was a pretty quick watch and I liked the strange and creepy atmosphere it had. The concept was interesting, especially with the aliens and the way they were introduced into the characters’ everyday lives. I think the anime had some good ideas and a unique style, but I also felt like it could have done more with its story and characters. Since it is so short, some things felt rushed and I was left wanting more explanation. Overall, I didn’t hate it, but it didn’t really blow me away either. It was an interesting and weird little anime that I enjoyed enough, but I probably wouldn’t consider it a favorite. 6/10

I'm going to focus in judging this as a Horror show, because I'm a big fan of Horror and this anime is tag as such. This is clearly a sci-fi psychological horror, although is more focus on the drama aspect of the characters dealing with reality of their world and with one self than with the horrors of It, there are moments that build suspense in the Horror way that does tingle my spine a little bit. However, as much as I enjoyed watching It, I can't look back at this thinking that this was at all a Horror. If this wasn't a horror review, I would recommend this anime by the mere fact that is just 4 episodes, and the plot and characters are interesting. But I cannot recommend this as a horror anime.

Alien 9 is a good anime to watch while you're at it. However, I wouldn't call it revolutionary or a masterpiece. It stands out for its art style, which is quite adorable. The plot is simple and the conflict isn't particularly mind-blowing. If you're looking for thrills or constant suspense, this anime probably isn't for you. The anime had the potential to be more psychologically complex; however, its simplicity isn't really a flaw because expectations aren't created by anyone but the viewer. The Alien 9 anime has all the foundation to go for horror, yet it ends up feeling like a strange slice-of-life anime.

The idea is decent, but the execution is far by one of the horrible stories I've seen someone wrote. One, the cast is not likeable at all. The main character does take up most of the screentime, and she's just crying half of the time. Obviously, in her situation, it is very realistic to feel saddened, but it didn't really make sense how she was roped into fighting in the first place. Besides that, the anime could've portrayed her character development better and make her emotionless by the end, which would've made the most sense, as she was already heartbroken emotionally and would fit the psychological horror genre better. The other two girls that were fighting didn't change my opinion on anything, but their relationship with the main character was nice to watch. The story felt rush, thou…

It's rare for something on MAL to score below a 7, because humans are naturally biased towards high scores. As such, Alien 9 might seem unassuming and skippable. This is wrong. I'm not going to pretend that I don't understand why the MAL score is so low (6.8 as of 4/26). It requires some heavy suspension of disbelief (if aliens were invading the school why would they enlist children to fight them?*) and some of the plot elements weren't clear. I ended up reading the Wikipedia page just to clear up any confusion (I imagine the manga is much clearer). A lot of people also find the main character grating because she spends most of her time crying, and while it doesn't bother me and I think that's a rather unempathetic perspective to take, I do also understand. These are serious points of cri…

Heard a lot about this one in terms of classic strange/sci-fi/psychological anime and it pretty much totally knocked it out of the park. At least the first 3 episodes anyway, just be warned that the final episode is not a super satisfying conclusion or anything. As a stand alone OVA there's still a ton to love here though and it remained quality throughout. The animation was consistently good, especially with all the alien designs and the sense of unease it creates, there's a lot of subtle motion and sound design that's just perfect and eerie. Along with this, all the character designs are great, but the creature designs omg they're just the best of all time, THEY'RE SO GOOD AHHHHH! I could see the human art style being kind of off-putting to some but I like how unique and generally cute…

Has that madoka this is a happy looking series but can get really dark thing going on but just doesn’t come across as well visually. Most things just look awkward but you can see the vision that these scenes in the manga are probably horrifying. Not much going for it out side of some cool visuals and a mood setting first episode. Main character just says I’m scared 150 times an episode and then gets lectured. Then has some strange dream. Just not a very interesting watch. Story was predictable. Some people might like the series if this is the first of this kind of anime they’ve seen im sure it’s more somber pacing and cerebral execution would stand out and might make it a fave but these types of series are a dime a dozen.

Spoiler free and short review! I cannot understate how much this broke my heart. Alien 9 caught me off guard, I read the concept and went into it thinking that it'd be a short but quirky and fun adventure of girls fighting aliens and having to balance it with school life! Nope! Not at all! Alien 9 is a harrowing story about growing up, the fear of being alone, and I'm sure a plethora of other messages and metaphors I was unable to pick up on. The premise seems simple, three girls from middle school are chosen by their classes to fight off alien invaders that come to their schoolgrounds with unknown reason, but usually it's just to cause chaos and attack the students. The real kicker is in the emotional pull. Some of the vocal performances and the animations really push the heartbreak, Ot…

I personally, and I believe most folks coming across this today, first discovered this show as a comparison to Madoka Magica, which happens to be one of my favourite anime. Looking a bit more upon it, I saw tags on anidb such as "Rotten World", "Deconstruction", "Tone Changes", "Gore", "Horror", and "Angst". That was enough to get me hooked. Alas, this anime was not what I was advertised. Which would be fine if the plot was decent, but it's not. If I had to keep this short and simple, I would say that Alien 9 has a lot of ideas that could've been great but execute them extremely awkwardly, resulting in a frustrating viewing experience and overall a pretty bad end product. Ootani Yuri is a terrible protagonist and extremely annoying. All she does is cry, and not much else. I don't want to…

Alien 9 mixes the mundane with a creepy, psychological horror twist. The short, 4 episode OVA series follows three young school girls who are tasked to join an exclusive club for capturing alien lifeforms invading planet Earth. Armed with zero knowledge, rollerblades, lacrosse sticks and their very own body juice sucking alien buddies, the girls are thrown into a cruel new life. On top of the aforementioned line, even the viewer is mostly clueless regarding lore and background info. Almost nothing is explained and the viewer is supposed to come up with conclusions themselves, which will certainly divide enjoyment among viewers. Personally I found the series handling the mystery in an interest piquing way. The characters are a mixed bag. We have the crybaby Yuri who is clearly ill-suited…

A short 4 episode OVA with a badly executed premise and bad worldbuilding. It also lacks focus and concentrates too much on mystery baiting despite providing no payoff whatsoever to any of said mysteries on top of having a cliffhanger hanging. The third episode has very little going on in it and drags on for way to long. Characters are nothing but archetypes. They do get fleshed out a bit in the last episode, not that it matters since again, nothing happens. Also, the MC is unbearable. The way she's written would be fine were she to go through any form of character growth but she doesn't at any point which leaves her to be a cowardly crybaby for the entire runtime which gets old really fast. The production of the show goes from average to fine. The badly blended CGI probably being its we…

This is an Alien World, Otani Yuri simply lives in it. "Deconstruction" is an often used buzzword that people usually use to describe anime that subverts their own genre tropes and logic in favor of a more "realistic" (Though it often ends up being some sort of romantic pessimism) system. Alien 9, however, excels at it quite naturally. Alien 9 is an experimental story, and the fact that some of it's elements don't have hidden meanings behind them only makes it more experimental: It is, more than anything, a story that you must "feel" in order to grasp. We follow Otani Yuri, a fairly unpopular middle-school student with a single friend that ends up forced into the school's task-force of dealing with aliens. Aliens, in this world are at the same time "a part of life", but also something…

Alien 9 is one of those hidden gems you find every now and then with anime. It just barely catches your eye, so you pick it up, dust it off, and find an incredible piece of work that has, somehow, against all odds, remained in relative obscurity, languishing with a mediocre reception. I stumbled upon it by total accident as I was looking for a quick watch, and armed with nothing but a brief description I settled in for what I thought was going to be a fun yet average experience. I couldn't have been more wrong. Instead, I got Madoka before Madoka. I got a lovingly crafted fever dream about aliens, puberty, and the terrors of growing up. I got Alien 9. Beginning with the story, which is its strongest aspect, it must first be understood as a wild thing that evades intellectual understanding…

Wasted potential. I’m sorry, but I just don’t think this anime explained its main plot elements nearly well enough to warrant a higher rating, which is a real shame since I was hoping this would be a potential 7/10 or 8/10 upon seeing the second episode. So many questions are left unanswered, and the sheer amount of completely wasted time (all of episode 3, A.K.A. a full quarter of the runtime) in an already short series was infuriating beyond belief. This OVA started off with amazing potential in the first two episodes, before completely throwing it away for a filler-like third episode which was so desperately needed to develop the plot amidst the already strict time constraints. Explanations which seemed to start moving along just stagnated, leaving a hopelessly bitter taste in my mou…

Alien Nine is certainly worth a watch if only because it is very short and very strange, in an intriguing way. I don't necessarily think it's the best storytelling or writing ever but the mechanics and creatures of this world are so interesting that it elevates the rest. The designs are fascinating and distinct, the weird alien helmets and their long combat drill-tentacles alone are so unique and cool without even considering the larger aliens they fight. The weakest point is that it ends very abruptly and the characters have little to no development. There's a manga but it's not terribly good and this short series almost feels better if only because it contains all the good without dragging it out.

Alien 9 is about three girls beating up aliens. One of them hates the job, one of them does it because the other option was worse, and one of them is raring to go. There's a copious amount of gore, blood, and mental breakdowns. So yeah, this show is not all sunshine and lollipops. From the first scene, Yuri (the first girl I talked about) will whine about not wanting to be the one designated to beat up aliens in her class. In the next scene she will complain and whine to her best friend about how she's unqualified for the job, and that she doesn't want to do it. If you ever think she'll stop moaning and whining and suddenly start heroically busting out the moves to beat up aliens in a badass manner, I'm here to tell you that Alien 9 is not that kind of show. Yuri will not suddenly become…

(this is my first review, cheers to that) I saw this when I was a child. I was between the ages of 7-9 when I watched this with my older brother and maybe my older sister. I thought the main character was horrible. Yuri, as a joke played on her, her classmates nominate and vote her democratically to defend her school from aliens over her best friend who actually could handle it. The 12 year olds who are elected for this task have to go on patrol for aliens bringing along symbiotic alien beings they wear on their head that are used like bioweapons/armor. They essentially become after school child soilders. Yuri is berated and shown scorn and disrespect by the serious Kumi, niether fitting in with her or her other partner bubbly Kasumi. They fight, capture and kill aliens and Yuri's sensiti…
