This show is amazing. The only part of the show that can be off-putting is the fan service. Every girl is sexually depicted in some way or another, and one of them was a 12-year-old. However, I think the fan service is lowkey kind of integral to the story (not the 12-year-old, though), so take it as you will.
PROS:
The main appeal of this show is definitely the animation. It's super cartoony, and EVERY scene feels so alive. They don't just use one medium to create that feeling, either: 3-D, manga shots, and varied animation styles (one of them was South Park! 😲), etc. The music is amazing as well. I don't think they could have picked a better arrangement for this mood and cartoony feeling they were trying to achieve.
The character dynamics, mainly between the MC and the two women, are…

The story is an absolute mess. Random events keep happening with barely any explanation, and the anime constantly jumps from one thing to another without giving enough context to understand what is actually going on. Being confusing can work when there is something meaningful underneath it, but FLCL just felt confusing for the sake of being confusing.
The characters weren't interesting enough to make the chaos worth following either. There were moments where the anime clearly wanted to make something feel important or emotional, but it was difficult to care when the actual story was so hard to follow.
The animation is definitely unique, and the music is probably the best thing about the whole show. Unfortunately, good visuals and a good soundtrack can't save a story that is this difficul…

I remember adding this anime to my list when I saw the cigarette-smoking gifs/images and thought that it was aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Continuing with that, the anime's style itself is very 'alive' and captures that 2000s vibe.
For a mere 6-episode series, this was an enjoyable watch without investing too much effort to understand it wholly.
I may not understand the 'avant-garde' genre fully, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt that, due to that, we weren't promised anything deep from the start. The whole concept would go as deep as one would like it to go.
Personally, I liked the main characters and their sense of humour, especially Haruka. Also, there were quite a few sexual interpretations that were quite welcome.
I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to watch som…

The plot is kind of difficult to explain. Like, I don't even know where to begin. I think that that is this shows biggest flaw, yet also why it's so good. It's not absolute nonsense, but it feels like it in the best way possible.
About characters, Mamimi is probably my favorite since you get to see how she changes during the course of 6 episodes. Same goes for Naota. Haruko is very silly and wacky, but not enough to where she doesn't understand anything, if that makes sense. Though all of these characters aren't the best characters of all time, they are very nice. I'm not going to spoil anything for any characters though, so I'll end this part here.
Amazing artstyle, stellar animation, beautiful to decent character designs. I don't know, it's just awesome.

FLCL is the kind of show where if you get it you get it, and if you don't you just don't. It has an awesome visual style, a great soundtrack, and incredible animation. It's a work of art. But it is fucking bizzare. It's sense of humor is crass and disgusting, the characters are pretty weird and terrible people, and it's got a crazy, nonsensical plot. There were a few standout moments I really liked, but I think I am, unfortunately, firmly in the camp of people who don't get it.
1. The visuals.
This show is beautiful. The action is fast and punchy, the muted colour choices give the whole thing a really insulated, claustrophobic feeling. The expressions and character designs in general are really charming. The animation carries the show in my opinion.
2. The characters.
I liked Mamimi.…

FLCL or “Fooly Cooly” is how pronounced I guess has definitely been on my backlog for a while, My thoughts on it are honestly a bit mixed because there is some decent gags and even some decent story here, Pretty similar to Gintama I'll say
Like the part about Mamimi being bullied and from what I personally gathered being potentially homeless (Apparently that's not confirmed, But it's definitely hinted at) being probably some of the best story telling in this plot wise won't spoil really anything if you haven't watched yet
It's definitely mostly a gag anime and for being that, It's decent, Again it reminds me a lot of early Gintama but it does have some bite to it but it's definitely not its focus, Like if you are looking for a thought provoking series FLCL isn't that but I can definitely…

"FLCL" both walks and works only on a thin line between genius and insanity-
No I wouldn’t even call it walking, it’s more like running and doing tricks on said line while increasing the pace with every episode.
Truly achieved the perfect amount of weirdness, while somehow creating a world that makes sense to be lived in while indulging in it.
The first episode hits you like a truck, but from that point on out you just go "oh yeah this is FLCL makes sense".
This incredible weirdness accompanied by Gianaxs beautiful animation is just straight eye candy.
The only gripe I will admit to have had with this anime is that...
I can’t really bring myself to care about the characters as much as I would’ve liked.
Probably mostly due to the fact that they're treated to sell the overall feeling of…

FLCL is one of those shows that has made me want more, it's short and sweet with some of the most unique animation styles pre-2010. While some may think that it is too short and confusing I believe that actually adds to its story because it makes it much easier to watch. It's about puberty and the anxieties of adolescence, to put it simply its a coming of age story which somehow manages to pique my interest and keep me glued to my seat for each episode.
The main gripe with this show is for people that enjoy the story to be presented to them upfront instead of revealed to them it may annoy them that they have to read between the lines to see the symbolism shown. However, with a second watch most will understand all they missed in the first watch and come to understand it in a new light.…

FLCL really pops out and hits you in the face with its in-your-face weirdness. It is just full energy full throttle all the time. The outro is really good on this one too.
When I watched this for the first time, I remembered a time a college friend had described to me episode 4 of FLCL and I thought it was his dream it was so weird. It all came back to me. Yes, this show is really weird.
You will probably be able to tell from the 1st episode whether this is a hit for you or if it's just too high-energy and annoying.
Then there are all sorts of people going into symbolic coming-of-age meanings for all the wacky events but I didn't pay much attention to that.

a meditation on the themes of puberty and questioning the world around you FLCL is one of the stranger pieces of the canon of legendary OVAs as well a legendary series shown on the early years of adult swim anime block with its insane fast pace harsh animation style strange sense of humor morally gray characters and at times border line gross sexual imagery FlCl is one of those series that i could only suggest to people into transgressive and absurdist pieces of media but for those who do there is a lot to appreciate like the soundtrack by the pillows that is always brought up when talking about this show for a reason ' the at times impressive animation especially during the fight scenes and a over all fun punky free spirit to the hole thing that that really is what if you ask me really ma…

They say that “whilst most states have an army, the Prussian army has a state.” I say that “whilst most anime come with music. FLCL is music that comes with an anime. The Music in this show is insane. I wasn’t sold on the first episode. I thought everything was super vague, but by the end of the second episode, the show clicked. Being a kid sucks; you can’t control the adults in your life. Everyone wants to be cool and understood, and this show depicts that feeling in the coolest, batshit way possible, with robots coming out of people's heads. The animation is also awesome and attention-grabbing, which goes well with the show's pacing. This show looks cool and is very pretty at times. DO NOT FALL IN LOVE WITH THE PROBLEMATIC BISEXUAL WOMEN IN YOUR LIFE!

I miss being a teenager. It was awful.
When I was in middle school, I discovered FLCL from a Wikipedia page for "programs broadcast by Adult Swim" or something to that effect. A quick read-through of the plot left me curious, and I went to YouTube to try to experience this six-episode enigma for myself. Well, I ended up watching the whole series in one sitting, home alone on my grandmother's computer (which was in the kitchen, interestingly enough), and somewhere in between the garage punk soundtrack, meta-humor and the sheer imagination of it all, a chord struck, and that connection never left me, even after never watching it again - at least, not for the next 15 years or so.
This past weekend, I found myself on a somewhat unplanned vacation thousands of miles from home, and since I was…

One of the best of all time. People that think there isn’t a storyline are too used to getting everything spoon fed to them by anime that are written for kids. FLCL makes you infer what is happening, but it still gives you nuggets of information, you just have to pay attention and be thinking.
This anime covers themes like: coming of age, loneliness, love, puberty, identity, and the concept that adults are not automatically mature because they are grownups. The way these themes are tackled through the narrative is undoubtedly unique. The actual conflicts are real-life issues that any kid could face, but through the conduit of aliens, portals, and a futuristic million dollar conglomerate.
The dialogue in this show is great, and the style is very real and gritty. The backgrounds are beau…

FLCL is not a series; it's a sensory experience. A 6-episode journey that encapsulates the confusion of adolescence through deliberate visual chaos: pastel color palettes hiding frenetic, life-filled animation, with a style that pays homage to the sketch-like strokes of the original manga. The Pillows' soundtrack isn't just an accompaniment; it's the very heartbeat of the work, an alternative rock that defines every scene and deepens its message. At the center of it all is Haruko, the symbol of a free and anarchic adulthood that our protagonist yearns for. A work that celebrates nostalgia, rebellion, and the strangeness of growing up. You don't watch it, you feel it. And once it hits you, it doesn't let go.

Lost at words for this show and that's the good time I had. The show always kept you hooked with the random action, comedy and light sci-fi elements that will keep you stuck to the show.
Haruko, Mamimi, and Naota all have traits that carry the energy of the show. It's all worth it with those three heavily impacting the show either with their thoughts and/or actions.
This is a show that will leave you weak at the knees with the cluster of comedic innuendos such as...eg. hit the bat🤣💀
Plus, the art style and animation flow seems like if the producers and writers were all taking some other substance from another world to make sure that this is a wild trip of a show that you won't forget👍🏾🤣
In conclusion, this is an anime series that will help out if you just want some light hearted ex…

One of the best but also weirdest anime I have watched definitely recommended.
This series is best going into blind so probably don't due research on it before watching or you will give away what happens.
The Animation was very experimental and weird but in good way but can't really describe it without giving too much so like I said go watch it for yourself.
Sure it may not appeal to everyone due to it being very weird but it is still an honestly brilliant Anime and one of the best.
10/10 In my personal opinion but you may have a different opinion.

FLCL has to be one of the weirdest anime I’ve ever watched, and that’s saying something after finishing Neon Genesis Evangelion. The story is completely off the wall. A middle school kid named Naota gets hit in the head by a Vespa-riding alien girl with a bass guitar, and then giant robots literally start coming out of his head. That’s not even an exaggeration. And then from there it just keeps stacking up with cookie-cutter government agents, baseball standoffs, family drama, and this huge factory in the background that looks like a giant iron. Most of the time, I had no idea what was happening, but I was laughing so hard I didn't really mind. It's like the writers threw in everything they could think of into a blender and decided to call it a story.
The characters are just as bizarre as…

I’ve watched this show three times over the past three years, and every time, I felt with an overwhelming sense of connection. I didn’t understand it fully at first, and I appreciated it for what was on the surface level; a beautifully animated, colorful, emotional ride with amazing music by the pillows. Now that I believe I understand everything about this show, I have only gotten more connected to it. A story about growth, puberty, maturity, relationships that work and relationships that don’t. Watching this in high school, a period in life where you learn a lot about yourself, it felt like this show spoke to me. It felt like me.
That being said, there are some issues that I cannot ignore. The sexualization/ pervy scenes, moments like the officers looking under Haruko’s dress, and some…

If i ever have to compare a animated show with art, flcl would be the first in my mind.
No, seriously i have not seen a anime that can be so chaotic, abstract and quite frankly stupid and also be meaningful and have layers to its story that you slowly peel like tangerines if you end up liking the energy this show has in abundance.
Of course its not without criticism, like i said it will be stupid , abstract, annoying, its a show that almost makes fun of itself and presents in such enjoyable way that never do you find yourself yearning for joy. This anime is almost a travesty of a sci-fi, only if it was a sci-fi because its too stupid for that.
Flcl's biggest quality lies in its themes. Themes you say what are those?.
Its in fact a coming of age story, its themes of sexual awakening, love…
