Dead Leaves

Dead Leaves

Introduction

Shortly after waking up in an unknown street with no clothes or memories, Retro and Pandy team up and begin a life of thrill chasing and violence. Retro's wild antics and Pandy's carefree personality make them the perfect partners in crime to cause mayhem wherever they strike. When an accidental mistake lands them behind bars, Retro and Pandy are sent to Dead Leaves—a high-security prison on the Moon. Once there, they soon discover that the other inmates are clones, all products of genetic mutation experiments. With nothing better to do, they escape from their cell and lead a prison break with the other captives. Armed with a crew of mutants and a hunger for havoc, the chaotic duo begins their wacky escape. dead leaves is a insane film it so colorful and full of energy with so little plot and almost no slow moments as well as crazy character design its almost feels like a abstract painting in action movie form its something to look at for its strangnes and style thats it has so much of it you can swim in it some might see this film and think its shallow but others will see it as free spirited it really all depends how much story matters to you in a movie but really i dont think a more clear story would aprove this movie that much if anything the movie would have went in the crazy directions that it does because that really is the best part of dead leaves is how insane it is cus what other movie has a guy with a drill for a penis break out of prison and a dude with a tv head fire duel pistols…

I thought I had seen it all, then I saw dead leaves There is 0 plot here, so go on ahead an just pay attention to the animation and the quick fire adult jokes. Once you realize this movie is strictly about escaping out the window of reality, you can thoroughly enjoy this film. There isn't any hidden or underlying theories which we usually get in these kind of movies . This is just peka brian rot stuff . The main point which is director trying to convey that sometimes we need drugs , animation or simply both to escape from reality or pointless life which usually most of people lives .

"That's fucking cinema right there. None of that pansy ass dick tugging 2.5-hour bullshit. Men puke, men poop in this movie, (wo)men deliver their new born baby in this movie. Fucking hard core dick in the ass butterball foosball fuck it chuck it game time shit." This movie is Kill la Kill turned up to 11. It's a 50-minute sakuga-fest that doesn't give you any time to think about trivial things like plot, character development, or how that one guy's drill penis works. Its striking visual style combined with the unrelenting action sequences are simultaneously a feast for the eyes and an assault on the senses. It's pure style over substance in the best way possible.

Properly rated as an 'R+' film: this movie is pure amoral fun. A film that's ALL STYLE, no substance. If you want to see the most over-the-top, colorful speedball of a film, Dead Leaves has you covered. This is one of those one-off movies with an entirely unique energy that will never be captured again. The energy in question: ultra-flashy, balls-to-the-wall bullet hell, cyber-trashiness. Scifi this fast-paced, fun, and gross at times, couldnt have been made without the help of something mind-altering. What a WILDLY FUN trip! Beware of mild nudity, sex, extreme vulgarity, violence, blood/gore, jokes about poop & genitailia, and probably more.

Dead Leaves is the Skibidi Toilet of Anime: People with domestic appliances for a head fighting enemies with "swiss knife" kind of weapons, with maximum collateral damage and barely any plotline. Style rules over substance reminiscent of the movie Tetsuo the Iron Man, which probably inspired the "unforgettable" side character who also has a Drill for a peepee. Let's say, Dead Leaves is an eXperience: The animation is eXpertly eXecuted, eXhilarating to watch and eXpressive, eXaggerating the action, the eXpressions and the eXplosions to the eXtreme all while eXuding an aura of "virginal" horniness of a 36 year old obseXed with seX. In one word, Dead Leaves is C00L, or at least it tries to be. Nevertheless the utter lack of seriousness or any point to the plot does restrict its ability to ri…

Hiroyuki Imaishi as I've mentioned a number of times in previous reviews is a polarizing figure. He's undeniably an animation genius, but his work can be frustrating at times. The anime industry has other highly talented animators like Masaaki Yuasa, but Imaishi just might be the best in terms of frantic, chaotic energy. Everything he works on looks SO fluid and is an absolute treat for the eyes. Unfortunately, this animation genius refuses to move beyond the gross out humor of 90s American cartoons. I'm pretty sure he has a shrine to Ren and Stimpy in his house and says prayers to it each morning. Imagine some of the greatest animation in world being squandered for the sake of poop, booger, fart, and wiener jokes. That's the Imaishi experience and it is perfectly captured here in Dead Lea…

Dead Leaves is the directorial debut for Hiroyuki Imaishi who previously worked as an animator and a manga creator. He also directed Kill La Kill and FCFL. Dead Leaves is a story about two people: Pandy and Retro. They wake up naked in separate escape pods with no recollection of their past but with super natural abilities and powers. Pandy and Retro embark on a massive crime spree across earth causing chaos everywhere they go. Eventually this lands them into the lunar prison called “Dead Leaves”. Dead Leaves prison holds a dark secret. The warden is conducting illegal and secret experiments on humans with special powers. The warden and his team then sell their mutated creations on the black market. Pandy and Retro realise that they have to escape from the prison along with the rest of…

The plot of this anime was a big mess. There was a lot of filler and segg. I would never recommend it to anyone. Biggest waste of time, in my opinion. Very weird script and innuendos. If I remember correctly the voice actors did a poor job; I watched in sub. When there was action happening, there was too much happening on screen to focus. Messy production as well. Personally, this is my least favorite anime I have ever seen. The main characters were more perverted than 'Food Wars' or Mineta from BNHA. Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Filler Fill…

Dead Leaves is an important and necessary contribution to modern anime and we benefit from having media like this made. Absurd, hectic, excessive, cartoonish and flashy, Dead Leaves does not have time to slow its pace. The entire focus of the movie is to move onto the next scene and indulge in the action of the current one. The story is actively acknowledged within the anime by the characters as not being that important. While this may seem like a cop out, I don't doubt the narrative capabilities of the writers because the world and style feel so cohesive and complex, and honestly if they overexplained the backstory to these characters any more I think it would have taken away from the rest of the experience. The length of the movie is perfect. All of the fat has been trimmed, this movie…

Completely, totally out-there and experimental and scatalogical. I suppose this is Imaishi when he's not at all considering marketability. His action work was great even 16 years ago, and I think there's probably something to be said for the aspects of his later work that obviously connect back here. There's the Gurren Lagann drills, obviously, and the fact that those descend from a literal extended dick joke is like finding out water is wet. But there's also the mysterious unknown backstory deus ex machina thing that I'd say connects to Promare. The characters didn't do a whole lot for me and this wasn't "ha-ha" funny, but I enjoyed it a lot. The amount of nonsensical ground that got covered in so short a time was extremely impressive.

Why? hahaha, I lost 45 minutes of my life doing what. This is the most non sense movie. When I decided I was going to watch it, I first heard it had same vibe/feel as flcl. Well all I can say it is creative as flcl but not in a good way. I really liked FLCL, but it had memorable moments, it had a incredible OST, and great characters, but dead leaves has none of this itens! I don't know, this movie has some quality? Don't watch it, you'll do a favor to yourself. The best part of this movie is its end. If you want to watch 45 minutes of bad animation, bad characters and a story without meaning (I don't even know if what this movie has counts as a story). If you guys really want to watch it, good luck you will need it.

Hey you, you're finally awake. You were trying to cross the border? Walked right into that imperial ambush, like us and that thief over there. Dead Leaves is a cautionary tale of what happens when you put art over reason. And what you get is a damn good trip. Every moment of this movie is action packed with its energetic visual style and breakneck plot development. It will leave you asking yourself, "what did I just watch," as well as, "can I get some more of that please." This film is a true testament to what makes anime work for me. That simply being animation. I want to watch something that is actually moving and bouncing and flowing with every painstakingly detailed scene. That is what anime is and that is what Dead Leaves offers.

I'm a big fan of Trigger/Gainax, mainly Hiroyuki Imaishi's work. Weird, energetic anime is my favorite kind of anime. When I heard Imaishi worked on this I added it to my plan to watch list and eventually got around to it and... I didn't enjoy it as much as I was expecting. Before I get into what I didn't like, I'll get into what I did like: the art and animation. A very unique art style and incredible, lively animation. Not to be an Imaishi fangirl but pretty much everything he works on looks so good. The biggest enjoyment I got out of the movie was looking at the animation and comic book-like art style. The story of Dead Leaves didn't feel very important, but that's how a lot of Imaishi works are. The art/animation and humor is more important. Like Space Patrol Luluco. It focuses on be…

This is really good, though some of the grossout/ultra-violence humor was a little too much for me. It's like they compressed an entire mediocre 13-epsiosde anime into 55 minutes, and I LOVE that. If you think Mad Max Fury Road had a crazy-fast opening scene, just watch the first five minutes of Dead Leaves. Seriously, this was really awesome, and it's pretty as hell. Director Imaishi Hiyoyuki has a very nice reputation for his insane works filled with excess and violence and racy elements, and while I think Dead Leaves is a success story in that regard, I also think it isn't fully refined into what would eventually become much greater works like Gurren Lagann and Kill La Kill. So this movie is more like a very solid prototype.

Probably the only pure action anime in existence that I REALLY liked. Extremely sharp and stylized visuals that attack the senses, exceptional soundtrack and likely an experiment gone wrong after Suda 51 and Michael Bay wrestled into a test tube chamber, and whatever ended up coming out was this monstrosity... It pushes the limits to what can be done using the eastern animation style with amazing grace. Without ever stooping down to the childish standards seen in almost every single other anime of this kind. Names won't be mentioned, believe me I am not interested in single handedly kicking off a huge weeb war. I could... My opinions are "illegal level". I rather sip my tea in peace, thanks. Story synopsises and character details are redundant... Yes. All those other reviews are silly…

If you loved FLCL dont read it, If you like fast moving scenes constantly, ( i said fast not smooth) dont read it. If you like smoking mid, dont read it. Im not here for the bs I cannot stand anime like this for a very good reason. Dont hit me with "nah you just dont get it", No. This is one of those shows where theres a different vanishing point in every scene and they studio didnt really want to use much else other than the story board. My eyes found it difficult to connect what was happening each frame even if i knew exactly what was happening.I also have huge beef with the over reliance on the color black. But overall like there are a lot of parellels between this and my dislikes with FLCL. Sex! Fucky fucky! Gunshots! Gore! Cum !! HAHA! Poop!!!! BAD Words!!!!! Drill dick. ?? HEEHEH…

One could describe Dead Leaves in so many words. Crazy, over the top, wacky, crude, insane, bizarre, crazy, energetic, confusing, relentless, manic, vulgar, mindless, and loud. All of these words describe Dead Leaves perfectly. But it would leave little to be desired if that was the only way I described it. So let's jump into it. The plot follows two people awaken naked on Earth, a man with a TV for a head called Retro and a woman called Pandy, named for her panda patched eyes, with no recollection their past. Not even having the clothes on their backs, out two main characters embark on a crime spree in search of food, clothes, and transportation, and are soon captured by the authorities and are sent to the infamous lunar penitentiary called Dead Leaves. While they try to escape the penit…

Phenomenally educational, the bright character design caught my attention immediately and soon popped up onto the top of family movie nights to watch list. The kids just loved it. Chinko quickly became my daughters favourite character. She enjoyed him so much that she has begged me to diy a Chinko halloween costume. Pandy's pregnancy was a truly emotional experience, was beautifully portrayed and reminded me of many of the struggles I faced during my own pregnancy. I recommend this movie to all of my friends at mommy and me yoga. Its perfect for those that enjoy tales of adorable anti heroes and light comedy.

I usually start out my reviews by laying down a proper introduction, probably stating some facts or presenting a background on the reviewed show, but I feel like in Dead Leaves's case I should mention something else first. Please note that the R+ rating is not just sitting there, so if you're younger than you're supposed to be, do not attempt to watch this, this might sound very polite for the age, or maybe too optimistic for me to think that people would go by my advice and call off their planned watch, believe me, you don't want to sacrifice your numbered days of innocence on something so simple. For the people who don't like extreme adult content, this is a definitive pass. We're talking partial nudity, curse words, genitalia references, live sex, and more badass (this is not a smoking…

I have a tendency to enjoy absolutely batshit expressions of creativity. Unsurprisingly Dead Leaves was right up my alleyway. It reminded me of getting way too drunk or way too stoned, dizzying experiences that are hard to fathom at the time but special in retrospect (that's a pathetic pun right there but fuck it). Dead Leaves submerses the viewer in this deluge of insanity without offering too much explanation. There is a story but it takes a backseat to the true selling points; the outrageous art, frenetic characters and absurdist comedy. Seriously this is fucking hilarious and actually pretty disturbing. Ultimately though, this is a film full of originality and it's really refreshing. It's not long but seems to condense a full show into it's small runtime. Nonetheless the abrasive pac…
