Redline

Introduction

Every five years, an exhilarating race called Redline is held, and the universe's most anticipated competition has only one rule: that there are none. Racers are pushed to their absolute limit—a feeling that daredevil driver JP knows all too well. Having just qualified to participate in Redline, he is eager to battle against the other highly skilled drivers, particularly the beautiful rising star and the only other human that qualified, Sonoshee McLaren. But this year's Redline may be far more dangerous than usual—it has been announced to take place on the planet Roboworld with its trigger-happy military and criminals who look to turn the race to their own advantage. However, the potential danger doesn't stop the racers; in fact, it only adds to the thrill. Relying solely on his vehicle's speed, JP prepares for the event to come, aiming to take first place in the biggest race of his life. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

FUCKING PEAK 10/10 💯🔥 Animation: 10/10 Absolutely insane. Every frame looks hand-crafted, the animation is ridiculously fluid, and the visual style is just on another level. This is the kind of anime where you pause just to appreciate what you're looking at. Story: 9/10 The story itself isn't anything overly complicated, but it doesn't need to be. It's straightforward, easy to follow, and does exactly what it needs to do. Characters: 9/10 JP and Sonoshee are charismatic as hell, and the entire cast has so much personality despite the limited runtime. Sound: 10/10 The soundtrack fits the races perfectly and adds so much energy to every scene. Overall: 10/10 💯🔥 Redline is pure anime adrenaline. It's stylish, loud, ridiculously creative and completely unapologetic about what it wants…

the fact that this film is one of the reasons madhouse (the same studio who animated death note, all of satoshi kon's filmography, opm season 1, hunter x hunter, monster, etc.) almost went bankrupt is so fascinating to me for some reason. seems that people in 2009 didn't appreciate good movies i guess. the best way to describe Redline imo is it's basically the anime version of speed racer, both have hyper-vibrant visual style, they share similar themes and both were major flops upon release before becoming cult classics today. one thing that i loved very much about this film is the animation and artstyle, Holy shit, this anime is visually amazing. from the character designs, the cars, the action sequences, etc. everything in this film feels chaotic, vibrant, and meticulously made. the fa…

Writing from 2026, Redline remains the pinnacle of Japanese animation and will likely remain so for a while to come. Seven hand-drawn years culminated in one of the most beautiful and visually stunning movies ever put to screen. While the story it tells is lackluster, that is hardly the point of Redline; the point is that it is a piece of art that fully utilizes its medium, that is chiefly concerned with being beautiful in a way that only an anime can be. Redline vindicates all of anime as a legitimate art form, and is a must watch for anyone who believes in the power of animation to uniquely express what other forms of art cannot.

Much like its main character JP, Redline dares to be great by refusing normality and defying industry logic. The thing about daring to be great is it usually ends in one of two ways: a realization of your hubris or a realization of your greatness. Redline, after 7 years of production, realized BOTH its hubris and greatness. The audacity it takes to demand that things be done your way, despite the odds not necessarily being in your favor, is both incalculable and yet the very reason why there likely won't ever be another film like Redline--or another racer in the galaxy like JP. If the premise of a film where racers from all kinds and walks of life go head to head on a hostile planet in a race where limits are non-existent and the leaders of this hostile planet--seeking to take advantage of…

This movie was pure perfection, full of adrenaline and with such a charismatic main character. JP is cocky but a sweetheart, he does not fall into the common stereotype of arrogant person who is nonchalant. He does care about people and he loves racing. This movie had me gripped to the seat for more, the animation is delicious and makes a person wish for more. There is a deep love of mine for sci-fi movies where the future is mechanical and not digital. This movie is full of mechanical components, which had my mouth fully opened for the majority of the movie. There is something about colours in this movie that really makes you amazed, there's 0 scenes with dull colours, everything is used to its maximum. I would also like to point out that the OST is magnific, stays in the head and it…

If you were to ask me what the coolest movie I have ever seen is, the one that had me feeling like a kid again, full of excitement and wonder, it would be this movie. I don’t usually like using terms like ‘badass’, but in the case of this movie, it is honestly the best word I can use to describe everything that happens in this insanely enjoyable and fun story. Redline is a story about a galactic illegal racing grand prix, which is just as insane and crazy as it sounds. Even if you hate cars and racing, you will still love this movie, because the sheer scope and craziness of this movie blow away any real-world comparisons. Takeshi Koike takes on his first directorial role for this movie, and he brings with him his adoration and obsession for illustrating speed, velocity and momentum. I m…

By god, this thing isn't a movie. It's a once-in-a-lifetime high-octane masterpiece of a ride that leaves you stunned at a loss for words. The blood-pumping soundtrack and spectacular visuals don't just draw you in, they envelope and transport you right into the seat of the protagonist's car racing fierce fantastical characters on an alien colorful world. When the credits hit, it left me speechless in a daze, astounded by the incredible ride Redline just took me on. Just don't expect too much from the plot. I think I will be chasing this adrenaline-fueled high for the rest of my life. 1000/10 INCREDIBLE - I'm convinced no movie can and ever will top this for adrenaline-filled edge-of-seat excitement.

I seriously can't fathom how a group of human beings came together and orchestrated this entire thing into existence. It's a masterpiece of art and creativity in every sense of the word. It's a shining example of why I continue to watch anime; because they boast the most unbelievably incredible works of art that can't be matched by anyone else on the planet. Seriously. Not to sound elitist, but once you've had the best, you just can't ever go back. These creators worked painstakingly on this film for almost a DECADE. HAND-DRAWING HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF FRAMES just so they could bring this one of a kind work of art to life. Very in tune with the film itself in which they didn't give up until the bitter end. And it most definitely paid off. It's animation at its finest. It's a testament to…

Once upon a time in the distant future, spaniel bikers in stylish helmets and goggles, lazily sipping beer and smoking cigarettes, watch a crazy survival car race raging in the desert between phantosmagoric racing cars armed with rockets, cannons and machine guns. In front of the spectators is the Yellowline, a qualifying race for participation in the Redline, the main race of the Galaxy far, far away, which is held only once every five years. The participants of the race are worthy of the cars. The main character, J.P. (Joshua Punkhead, i.e. Punk-headed Jesus), nicknamed "Sweet", is a greaser with a huge "pompadour" on his head, looking like young John Travolta in "Grease". He drives a yellow Trans Em 20000, reminiscent of the American muscle car of the early 1970s Pontiac Trans Em. JP…

When a movie has ADHD: Redline. In the future there's a racing event where the cars have rocket engines and are allowed to shoot at each other and basically engage in combat. The event organisers decide to hold the final as an illegal incursion on a highly militarised planet with a hostile government. The plot focuses on two racers JP, an egotistic hot shot with a greasy pompadour and Sonoshee, a beautiful young racer who wants to prove herself. There's a large cast of side characters including JP's mechanic and parts dealer, the other racers, the leaders of the Roboworld army and the race organisers. There is not a lot of character development, just enough to set up JP and Sonoshee as romantic interests and some background on the other racers and rivalries. JP's relationship with his mec…

I am tweaking so hard that my teeth are itching The whole movie feels and looks like an acid trip. Redline probably has the best visuals I have seen in any animated movie. It just looks insane from start to finish. That doesn´t only concern how good the car races are but also the crazy designs they came up with for the characters. The story itself while not the focus also is way better than you normally would expect from a racing story. I personally don´t even enjoy cars. I have never seen a F1 race or have any interest in the Fast and Furious movies, despite that I love this movie. Highly underrated anime, which not nearly enough people have experienced.

Redline is a nothing burger. You may as well just watch Nascar, because this movie is empty. It's a race, between what amounts to faceless competitors, because, they have nothing to add to this movie, except being drivers for a race. The movie fails at establishing anything of value for our characters, and their story. The characters are bad, lifeless, and boring. Redline is not an 8.28/10. It is a shallow movie that is animated beautifully, that is it. Animation 10/10 - Its gorgeous, incredible detail, great character design, and a crisp look. Sound 10/10 - Great sound design, good VA work, mixes well with the theme. Story 1/10 - It's a race. There is nothing more to this movie. Characters 1/10 - Hollow characters, boring characters. Enjoyment 4/10 - I liked the animation, the race itsel…

High octane fun from start to end. Gives you just enough of underlying stories without feeling forced too hard. Some fairly pointless fan service, but also fits the feeling of the universe aesthetic. I can't really knock it for much beside the very ending, which didn't seem to match anything that the world building had suggested at all, but also hailed back to a very 80s-90s action overblown ending. Breaking it's own already over the top universe outline is why this loses 1 point from me. Expect minimal plot and go into the movie with the mindset that the first 5 minutes are setting the pace for everything else to explode at the end. If you want something super deep, though provoking, or mellow, give Redline a pass...and frankly consider why you're even looking at a movie length racing…

This is actually an interesting title that more or less can manage to put stuff men and women like into a single show and make it somewhat work. Here we have alpha male JP who is mogging supporting cast left and right, yet somehow manages to stay a completing enough protagonist in male eyes. May be because he does not do it too often and mogging is not all he does. Also he mostly mogs unlikable characters. JP's personality is more than just being an asshole. He has dreams and ambitions: his desire to win races and be a champion is relatable to male viewers or at least to me. Sonoshee is likable enough in men's eyes to at least understand JP's infatuation with her. She has some of the moe-ness, cuteness and girliness to be likable, but she also has other traits. And then there is racin…

In the far future, when cars are giving up wheels in their changeover to air-cars, There still exists fools, who carry a vanishing spirit for racing. "Style IS the Substance" Redline is an overwhelming dose of everything that makes for a bombastic film. I have said this in the past, but the amount of dedication that went into making this film is a sin to ignore. For nearly 7 years, with over 100,000 hand-drawn frames, Redline is one of the best animated films you'll ever have a pleasure to see. I remember watching this film for the first time, and instantly knew that I have to watch it again, just to catch those extra details the film has. The film always has something on the screen to stick your eyes to, that even when you're following the story, you can't help trying to notice all other…

"Redline" is an animated movie directed by Takeshi Koike that was released in 2009. The movie is a high-octane, action-packed racing film that is both visually stunning and emotionally engaging. The graphic design of "Redline" is one of its most notable aspects. Bright, brilliant colours, elaborate designs, and dynamic camera work make the movie a visual feast. Each frame of the animation appears to be a piece of fine art. Particularly breathtaking in terms of speed, fluidity, and realism are the action scenes. The movies visual aesthetic complements its action-packed plot, which will undoubtedly have viewers' hearts racing. Each character in "Redline" has their own personality and set of goals, and they are all well-developed and interesting. JP is a sympathetic and approachable main cha…

Takeshi Koike's Redline is a spectacle for the eyes and an exhilarating experience. The action is complex and well animated while the OST drags you into it by making your blood rush because of how the director adapts music into his works. It is not something you can take your eyes off, and it gets me pumped up like no other action movie. The director is known for his bold animation style, and the movie has the best animation of its decade given it was in development for seven years; it's a marvelous technical showcase. My heart aches it did badly at the box office (although it's mostly the team's fault and merit for going way over the deadline). The only negative reviews I read focus about one thing, the writing, to which I say: they are wrong. Redline may not have the best story, but it'…

SUMMARY:Good visuals, bad plot. Before anything i need to say that i came with high expectations at the moment of see this movie, and when I saw the first minutes I was amazed, those visuals, the music, those incredible action scenes, everything was great, after that the movie loses a lot , a cliche story with things that are there for no apparent reason, at the end it seems that it will be as good as in the beginning, but unfortunately it doesn't, and I really trust you that there are too many things in this movie that happen with no reason, I wish it had only been the first 10 minutes. Resumen: Excelentes visuales, mala historia. Antes que nada tengo que aclarar que yo venía con altas expectativas al ver esta película, y al ver los minutos iniciales me quede maravillado, esos visuales, l…

Review in English and Portuguese / Review em inglês e português Spoiler free review / Review sem spoilers ///////////////////// English Part /////////////////////////////// When evaluating an anime we must always consider what the anime wanted to achieve and what it actually managed to achieve. Just because an anime has a story that tries to be complex and philosophical doesn't mean it will be better than an anime that tries to be simple, but with a focus on being impressive, generating hype. It all depends on whether the anime managed to achieve this goal successfully or not. Redline is an anime that fits the second case, it is not and does not try to be deep and philosophical, no. But can he successfully achieve what he tries to do? Definitely YES! Shall we go to the analysis then? S…

If you’re unsure if you want to watch Redline then just take a look at the pilot episode. That episode itself was the reason why this movie piqued my interest. You can find the English dubbed on Youtube. First and foremost, with 100,000 hand-made drawings, Redline’s animation was by far one of the most well-done (maybe a congratulations in term of steak) anime movie I have ever seen. Words can not describe how surreal it is to see drawn frames of multiple racing vehicles so fluid put together in high-packed motions. It accurately made me believe the heavy strain of each and every car take when they’re on the track, especially in those tense moments where you wonder what unexpected trick is gonna happen next, one after the after. The sound played a huge part in engaging me to watch this m…
