Space Dandy

Introduction

Dandy is a groovy, pompadour-wearing man who explores the stars in search of strange aliens for money, desiring to visit his favorite place: BooBies, the best diner in all the cosmos. Traversing the galaxies in his trusty ship, the Aloha Oe, Dandy is accompanied by his two equally unique friends: QT, the vacuum cleaner robot; and Meow, an alien with a cat-like appearance. Although exciting, Dandy's job is never simple, and each new day promises a completely different, thrilling adventure. Together, Dandy and his crew get dragged into perilous journeys, misadventures in romance, and out of this world scenarios—all whilst steering clear of the evil scientist, Dr. Gel of the Gogol Empire. Fortunately Every Dimension Have BooBies Space Dandy Is the show about the Dandy Way, and how even if there are infinite dimensions with Dandy's, they all follow the Dandy Way. What makes Space Dandy so amazing, is it's willingness to be bizarre and weird, it can go to whatever genre the guest director wants for the episode, it has so many moments, that would be the best show in another series, but here it's another dandy day. But it wouldn't have worked, if it wasn't for Shinichirō Watanabe flexible characters, that could do in many difference story scenarios. Space Dandy is just such a funny and likable guy, who likes ass and boobs, and just wants an easy life finding aliens, despite it not being easy. He works great for the comedy episodes, and even more for the sincere emotional epi…

I’m not a huge anime person. You can see that from my review list. What I watch is few and far between and unless something really captures my soul, like Vinland Saga, I’m very choosy. And yet, here we are. I could wax lyrical about this show all day but I’ll keep this short. The sheer amount of creativity on show each episode. The amazing dub! Yes, really. The humour, off beat irreverent nature, the music.. ugh, it’s just an underrated piece of work because it never took itself too seriously. It’s a joy to watch, it’s infinitely rewatchable and it has so much heart. Don’t miss out.

As of 2025, it has been a little over 10 years since Space Dandy first aired, and the praise for the show has not faltered in the past decade. As such, rather than laying on praise on a broad scale, I figured a better use of my writing space would be talking on a more episodic level. The primary issue with anthology series, particularly with anime anthology series, is that the first episode is rarely a good indication of the wild ride you’re about to go on. In fact, I think the first episode of this season is the weakest by a long shot. Below is my ranking of which episodes of Dandy were my favorite to least favorite from this season: 1. Sometimes You Can’t Live With Dying, Baby 2. There’s Always Tomorrow, Baby 3. A Merry Companion is a Wagon in Space, Baby 4. Plants are Living Thing…

Visually stunning, impressively diverse and ridiculously absurd, Space Dandy manages to traverse the cosmos between juvenile humor, existentialism and everything in between, albeit to ... unsurprisingly mixed results. The titular character is an egotistical Elvis-inspired alien hunter who, when not frequenting his favorite breastaurant "Boobies," searches planets high and low for novel alien species with his two companions - the adorably timid robot QT and the snarky-yet-apathetic Betelgeusian (i.e. alien) Meow. Together, they form an unlikely but dynamic trio, undergoing various adventures across numerous planets and even dimensions, all while unknowingly being pursued by the ever-imposing Dr. Gel. The series begins on a lighthearted note by introducing Dandy as the paradoxical "dead-en…

This is genuinely a masterpiece in the anime industry and a highly underrated piece of fiction, which is quite sad because everyone I’ve recommended this series to has said that it was literally a 10/10 experience for them. What’s interesting about this series is that every episode is unique and something different, and it only gets better with each one. Especially episodes 21 (A World With No Sadness, Baby) and 24 (Different Dimensions). In both of these episodes, you will question one thing: What makes us who we are? Are we defined by our choices, our past, or the different life paths we could have taken? Truly a masterpiece once again by Shinichirō Watanabe, the creator of Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo. Thank you for reading! "I’m the guy who’s gonna find the ultimate alien, and…

My first review! In Space Dandy we follow Dandy's adventures in space with his IQ robot QT and a cat-like alien named Meow. Every episode has a different topic/story to tell so it's not really a linear story even tho it is still connected and after each episode a conclusion is to be drawn. The characters are somewhat one-dimensional at the beginning, for example Dandy is a very horny guy who loves and talks about tits & ass a lot (who doesn't) but after following them for a while these characters will develop. Space Dandy explores a lot of topics from heartbreaks to being a outcast etc. there is definitely at least one topic that someone can identify with or relate to. The art style and the visuals are amazing, since it's a show that takes place in space there will be a lot of trippy v…

I never wanna see a butt or a boob ever again for as long as I live. This is just a stylish as heck show. Every single episode is a constant visual and audible treat. I only wish I was more attached to its cast, however. I didn't dislike any of the main or one-off characters. I was more or less neutral to them all. The outcome of a lot of episodes almost felt like an episode of "The Twilight Zone", which in turn led me to not care as much about the outcome of events that I knew wouldn't ever get mentioned in the future or have any long-lasting impact on the characters. There were a couple episodes sprinkled throughout that developed the main cast, which were definitely the highlights of the series for me. However, the main enjoyment came out of simply seeing the artistic mastery of each e…

Space Dandy is quirky. A silly scallywag. Swooshy flow. Big sentences makes head spin, but small ones conquer your heart! Girls love short stories. You get what I mean, baby? Why care if not making me smarter? Because... Character movement is too adorable! Too easy game. Believing in physics is a choice, denying it gives you unlimited swishes swashes. Don't be so stiff, man! Things melt when heated. Story Continuity? Plot? No. I'm going to the mart, want anything? Language is means of communication, and Space Dandy is a haiku. Short, designed for flow, makes no sense half of the time, enjoyable for any day of the week. Is it personalized? Hell yeah. Look at all those alien designs. They all love booba, despite anatomical differences. Ding! This sin counter belongs in the TRASH! It's ru…

So much wasted potential, baby. Space Dandy has stunning art and animation, fun and vibrant characters and an interesting world. And it chooses to do very little with all of it. Space Dandy draws parallels with Cowboy Bebop but falls short of it on every metric. The less serious tone of the show trades character development and emotional punch for shallow jokes and simple gags. Episode 5, in which Dandy escorts a young girl, reveals the show is capable of such depth but chooses not to do so often. A lack of overarching story leads to a very episodic show. This isn't necessarily bad, but since the characters of the show are almost one dimensional, there is very little feeling of development via story or character growth. The nonsensical plot and lack of consequences to the main chara…

Despite everything it has going for it, Space Dandy is not a good show. Given its pedigree (animated by Bones in its heyday, directed by Cowboy Bebop's director, an amazing OST) its hard to go into this show with fair expectations but even after watching a few episodes and getting used to what it really offers you just can't shake the feeling that the show is wasting your time. Space Dandy is purely episodic (although events loosely build on each other anyway) which means its needs a solid cast and interesting situations to deliver entertainment and neither of those are present. The three main characters of Space Dandy are Dandy, Meow, and QT and they're all extremely idiotic losers that never get anything done. Every episode is them looking for a quick way to make money so that they can…

It may have been because I found it without looking, but when this started airing in North America, I made sure I was on top of it. This show is a fun ride through a jazzy adventure that you will thoroughly enjoy. Sure, it can be a bit goofy and not serious, but that's what I like about it. The show sets itself apart by being entirely its own thing and not being concerned with what anyone else is doing. That is the essence of Space Dandy. The art style wonderfully compliments the story, as everything feels fast and loose but still with a great degree of precision in doing so.

Cowboy Bebop is an undisputed masterpiece, probably one of the most acclaimed anime series ever. Space Dandy is a parody on that masterpiece made by no other than the director/writer and producer of Cowboy Bebop. In addition, the parody engrosses all other space, mecha, superhero, and tokusatsu sci-fi since Atomboy. So I absolutely cannot recommend this thing if you are a novice in anime, even if you already watched everything listed above. If, like myself, you're watching anime for a good quarter of a century and know not only the anime but also much of what anime of the recent 50 years roots in, meaning pop culture and music, as well as a thing or two about Japan beyond anime, you'll see Easter eggs in literally every second frame.

Space dandy is one misunderstood anime. Do not expect the next cowboy bebop but rather a thematically inverted version of it. Every episode was created as if Shinichirō Watanabe gave 3 buckets of lego with identical pieces, themes & characters to some of the most talented directors in the industry just to see what they could build. The series is like walking through the showroom containing said lego creations to see what stories & themes the directors came up with. The show might not be well rememberd but what it tried to achive as a directorial experiment should not be forgotten. It's dumb, it's smart, it's funny, it's sad, it's deep, it's shallow, it's boring and it's entertaning but above all of that, it's Dandy baby.

Nothing transcends the anime medium like Space☆Dandy. And after accumulating many space operas under my belt, my high opinion of Space Dandy hasn’t faltered. Infinite Ryvius, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Mobile Suit Gundam, SDF-Macross, all rank as some of my all time favorite shows, yet none of them feel like an out of body experience in the same way Dandy does. You see, many space operas do a great job at being just that, space operas. An epic story with grand battles and more intergalactic love-drama than one could muster. However, few of them go beyond feeling like just another space opera, even if it’s told in a spectacularly unique way. “Space☆Dandy”’s title alone, I mean just look at that star in its official title, already gives it more flair and finesse than your average interga…

I watched Space Dandy back in 2014 on Toonami. I remember loving it and saying it was one of my favorite of all time but I was just a dumb 14-year-old. When they added it back to Crunchyroll I decided to give it rewatch to see if it's good as I remember now that I am 9 years older. MAN, IT WAS AS GOOD AS REMEMBER HONESTLY EVEN BETTER THAT I GET MORE OF THE JOKES AS AN ADULT. Not only is this show funny as hell and stupid in a good way. At times when the budget goes crazy the art can literally take your breath away with how beautiful and stunning it is. The opening slabs so card and the ending theme too ESPECIALLY ON THE FINAL EPISODE. I watched it dub, hands down one of the best dubs Everyone's voice performances were on point and the jokes always landed with a punch. I think this a show a…

I decided to watch space dandy a few years after watching cowboy bebop and this show deserves just as much praise. This is the best comedy I have seen and it helped me through a tough breakup. The music in this show is impressive the tracks are so memorable and fits the anime so well. The visuals are so beautiful and they always blow me away. The show is beautifully written and the episode "a world with no sadness, baby is literally one of the best episodes I have ever watched. Anyways if you like watching quality anime and are bored of anime always being the, give space dandy a watch you wont regret it baby.

I've been watching anime for as long as I can remember now, and every so often I find an anime so unique from anything else (in a good way) that it just becomes a memorable experience for me. This anime is just that, the amount of creativity and love expressed in each episode is meticulous here. Even with 70 key animators and dozens of story ideas for each episode, the coherence in the story and general "dandiness" of Dandy is comfortably enjoyable. It's not a serious anime with a single plot and goal, nor is it like a sitcom where each episode everything resets to 0. There is general progression though it is mostly irrelevant, its all about the here and now. Each episode you see a character being introduced, their hardships and interaction with dandy's cool-tempered wisdom/style and y…

Space Dandy has phenomenal animation and art with some decent sound effects but with its non continuity based nature it makes it incredibly difficult to care about what happens each episode. There is only one that comes to mind where I genuinely enjoyed watching it being Episode 5. This being the main protagonist Dandy capturing a young orphan alien girl under the pretense of delivering her to the alien registration center. As the episode progresses the two begin to become close leading to a very heartwarming and satisfying ending. Every single other episode failed miserably when it came to introducing an engaging story that made the viewer want to continue watching it. There were even many points in time I considered dropping the series as a whole hoping it would get better, it didn't. I…

Space Dandy, Hes a Dandy Guy in Space. I Found it to be extremely entertaining. The Character designs are really Iconic; you could immediately recognize any one of them at a convention. the Art is so Fun, Bouncy, and Outrageously animated for what is basically a one-shot comedy show. Yes, Most all of the Episodes in the Series are just one offs that don't have anything to do with one another. At most there may be a side comment of what happened in the past; don't get too attached to anyone outside of Dandy, Meow, and QT. The Episodic Story Telling does lead to some Entries being stronger than others (Episode 13 was a pure delight). Although, Most Comedy anime do not translate well to the west; this one is a cut above the rest. There are many laughable moments; even people who may not like…

Im seeing a lot of people saying “this anime only has a few good episodes” which is true, don’t let it discourage you from watching the anime. This anime was an extremely fun watch. Even if there are only a few good episodes, the bad ones aren’t necessarily not enjoyable. I dont think you should skip any episodes in this anime. While many episodes are like a 6-7/10 the ones that arent are great. Sure, maybe the humour isnt for you, but humour is subjective. The booby jokes dont really get in the way of anything, its just dandy’s character. Story: now, with the story, each episode has almost no continuity except for maybe some references of the last episode. The story here doesnt really show until later in the show, and the story itself isnt that great. A good anime doesnt need to have a…
