A clear step up from the previous seasons. Roberta's Blood Trail may just be Black Lagoon at it's absolute best. The story, characters and intensity of it all just works way too well. It does suck that it's only 5 episodes but with 30+ minutes each episode, you're pretty much buckled in every second of the way. Roberta is also such a memorable villain, rather than having another powerful mafia drug lord talk their way to being cool, she is this meta human psycho assassin.
This arc also portrays the true behaviour in Rock in which he'd go full mastermind in what he believes in. He may be just a bystander in all the ruckus but he's the reason why things are in place. Sure the interesting plot is there but the resolution and final showdown is what it is because of Rock's plan. It sums up a p…

If you're not fully able to take on the weight of the world put on display here, that very much being the weight of our world, and the evils perpetuated in it; I wouldn't advise you to watch. But those who are will be able to enjoy the powderkeg set up for us in the prior two seasons. As the rot of Roanapur not so steadily reveals the kind of people and more specifically Rock turns out to be when they start to let go of the notion of pursuing people as ends versus means.
Roberta's Blood Trail is among the most tightly written and directed pieces I've seen within the medium, with naught even an ounce of fat to shave off. The viewer is kept locked in a state of tension wondering whose goals are or aren't possible to achieve, and thinking if one can do a truly good act within the city of th…

Notice: This review covers all three installments of the franchise. No reason to make different reviews about the same thing.
In a nutshell: A distillation of every bad or semi-competent Hollywood action flick cranked up to eleven, interspersed with some light philosophy, homage to other media (war films, Yakuza films) and some mature subjects like terrorism and child abuse. It got a cast like a Tarantino film, actually strong and competent female characters who don’t break down and need the male shoulder to cry on, and its tone and content is both over-the-top hilarious and at the same time features moments more mature than ten dozen Claymores and Narutos… That, AND boobs and guns.
Black Lagoon can be a highly entertaining anime if you go all myopic on it; meaning to watch only specific…

God damn I forgot how badass Black Lagoon is. The first two seasons were thoroughly enjoyable, and Roberta's Blood Trail doesn't disappoint.
First of all let's talk about the music. It is excellent. Properly scene accompanying music, in particular, the solo drums that pounds through the action sequences that are as perfect as ever. The music throughout is well balanced against the action, doesn't over stay it's welcome and doesn't invade the moment. Even the intro and outro music is good. We all know this is a rarity.
The animation is great. It's grimey, it's dirty and continues to convey the darkness that surrounds the script of this show perfectly. I also feel it's a little gorier than the first 2 seasons which was very welcomed. This miniseries didn't pull any punches when it comes…

I wouldn't say it quite lives up to its second season, but this final arc gets pretty close. Roberta's troubled story really comes full circle, and though that quest for revenge is rather simplistic, it also becomes an effective vehicle for exploring how Rock has changed over the course of the series and seeing some character growth from her young charge. It gives some more backstory to Revy, which honestly was decently obvious before and doesn't add much to the character. What really separates this season from the rest, though, is seeing the larger political dynamics of this world, particularly how America plays into it. We've gotten hints, but this season expanded on it effectively. It also had one of the messiest fight scenes in the anime, so it was a good time to watch. Overall, an eff…

As a fan of the first two Black Lagoon seasons, I'm glad I watched this but not totally satisfied. This is one of those arcs that starts out promising and has the potential to be one of the best anime ever, but while it does have its moments, the third episode in particular being one of my favorite Black Lagoon episodes, it is really boring at times. I saw a sub-reddit titled something like "RBT plot explained" that had a lot of comments which would imply this was some complex story that needed explaining. It's not really that hard to follow there's just a lot of monologues and characters. The reason why I probably wasn't that interested in what was going on is because the Lagoon became side characters here. Dutch & Benny are practically nowhere to be found until the end while Revy & Rock…

Black Lagoon Season 3, Roberta's Blood Trail
Quick Review with no large spoilers, small details may be exposed though:
Here the crew is back, with a focus on Roberta and her master, and a plan that Rock makes up to achieve his goals. The story is a direct focus and has a singular arc involving Rock and his plans, that does a pretty good job explaining characters in the show and how much of a mastermind Rock really is with his time and concentration. Pretty good character development in this 5 episode OVA, it shows the drain of the characters and the intensity they deal with when they encounter problems.
Overall it is a great watch, hopefully the next season of Black Lagoon soon, the studio almost has enough to use for a season 4!
if you enjoy my review don't be hesitant to press that h…

Black Lagoon Roberta's blood trail: a massive disappointment
There were many parts to this story that were super compelling: the 2 main being, well, obviously, Roberta, and Rock.
here, Rock was shown to be a criminal mastermind of sorts, forging a plan apparently so sinister and unpredictable that even career criminals like Dutch and Revi were getting pretty afraid of. This, in my opinion, is a great characterisation for a character like Rock, and was also built up quite well throughout the series, and here he fully embraces his criminal instincts, even using kids as mere pawns. However, by the end it devolves into absolutely nothing. It makes the viewer feel incredibly cheated.
Kind of similar with Roberta, but a lot less aggregious. Roberta as a villain this arc was mindblowing. The…

What a hugely disappointing finale to what was a very enjoyable series on a generally downward trajectory throughout the second series.
The story does little of note, spinning its wheels in a desperate attempt to build some kind of intrigue but fails to do that through janky pacing and character arcs that in no way dovetail into anything with a working structure.
The art and sound are the strongest points of "Roberta's Blood Trail" in large part because they are mostly in keeping with what came before: crisp, often dark and brooding but not overbearingly so, interspersed with colourful wide-angle shots that contrast the often hectic and sometimes claustrophobic darker scenes; generally well delivered.
As others have stated…

Roberta was a badass the entire show and these 5 episodes made that very clear. Rock turned out to be a good character with bloodlust which I hoped for. Had a very peaceful ending even with such a violent gore type anime. The whole hunt for her was crazy. Even though I'm hyping it up it still had a few flaws that I might think viewers would not like. If you like being invested into a story this one is valid. Overall a solid anime to watch was not boring if you are actual invested in the story and just outright good.

Reviews if you don't have time.
If there was a show with such an iconic, badass, female protagonist, the name “Black Lagoon” comes up. It is a manga adaptation with powerhouse studio Madhouse animating it, and what a treat they gave to the already fans of the show that read the manga.
As expected, the animation is great. The fights scenes are fluid and exciting, the movements and choreographies are well executed, and the weapons and guns are well designed and animated. The art-style is kind of unique and really helps with the dark and harsh scenes that surround the characters. It also has some moments where the good animation makes that more intense or memorable. Unfortunately, I still think that it could have been better animation or more complex sequences throughout, especially in rega…

This ova is supposed to be the "conclusion" of this work, although the end is quite open.
The story is quite simple, Roberta is out for revenge. The illustration of the violence reaches the climax of Black Lagoon. More slaughter, more explosions, blood and death.
"Woman Literally Too Angry to Die" almost gets a new meaning.
Story There are a few new conspiracies here, but otherwise that's it. The plot is rather drawn and calm, despite the whole action.
Promising and interesting, but they really don't have the tension. Monologues and conversations are often drawn out immensely and it almost repeats itself. Honestly, you could have cut the whole thing together and reduced it to a good 4 episodes.
Characters
Here again, only the protagonist did something, in a really interesting sense.…

It's the end...time to wrap a little bow on this series and move on...one more time:
Story:
A very good, but slightly flawed, story. It's impressive what they got out of just 5 episodes (though they're a little longer than usual.) It's just one ARC, but I think it's just as good as the ARCs seen in the actual series. Characters still get enough screen time I think and the new ones are well-fleshed out enough to where they're also enjoyable. They even still mention things from the other seasons, which is awesome. Good stuff.
Art:
It's...strange that after 3 years of the 2nd second season, the art ultimately doesn't look any different, that being said it's not bad at all. Animation, characters, and effects all still good purely...Black Lagoon. The eye motif I mentioned in my other review i…

Quick take: it's generally not a good thing when you have to look up a synopsis and see that many people suggest watching it twice to better understand what is happening. Even after the synopsis, it is easy to remain confused. What we do get is great character development.
Usually, I review the storyline first, but I'm going to save that for last this time around.
Roberta's Blood Trail delivered more Black Lagoon goodness. It's art style is about on par with the previous seasons, but has tendency to be a bit less impressive in some shots. The last episode spends a sold 15+ minutes at night where the only colors are black and blue and it is extremely muted. Much of the gun flashes seem to be also muted during this portion. Fight scenes are not quite as exciting as in the past seasons.

It has been a long time since we have seen any black lagoon and I'd like to say that it was well worth the wait. It's a shame that the franchise doesn't get the proper respects over in Japan.
This 5 epsiode arc brings back all the magic of the first two seasons. With its maniacal string of cast members and dark and dreary storyline it leaves the viewer a little bit violated but mostly satisfied.
My favorite thing about the ova is the struggles of Garcia and Fabiola as they are plunged into a sick unforgiving world and try to maintain their morals and keep sane whilst trying to save Roberta who has gone astray. I also like how Fabiola keeps her resolve not to kill anyone, even though Revy pressures her numerous times. They are by far the strongest characters during this…

Roberta's Blood Trail definitely is a title deserving of this installment. No doubt in my mind about it. Be prepared for a lot more cruelty and gruesomeness this time around compared to either of the first two.
This one as one might come to expect is centered around Roberta and her desire for revenge based on what happened to what might be the only family she's ever known. That's all I can really say without spoiling much...
Roberta pretty much snapped for what is the last time. I mean she's 100% willing to start a war with the world if it means accomplishing her end goal it seems. She ends up reverting completely to her old self, which will certainly be needed for the task shes about to take up.
After all her preparation is complete she really doesn't look back. It's just forward steps…

I really enjoyed this and part 1 and 2. But in a way im disappointed. Because Rock still had that desire to save people in the end. I wanted too see him become maybe a bit more like Revy or Dutch, in general a bit more dark. But in the end i enjoyed every bit of it. I definitely recommend watching every bit of it.
Sure they could've had Rock be a little more "useful" I was really excited when he accepted the gun from Balalaika but then he just gave it back like it was nothing. I wasn't really suprised to be honest, i knew they wanted to keep Rock "clean" from it all.
Well that about sums it up for me. I loved every aspect of this OVA and i hope we get to see more in the future!

Black Lagoon: Roberta's Blood Trail (2011)
This OVA format for a continuation was actually a level of violence more than previously and more than I was expecting. For what this series is, however, that is perfect.
This time following Roberta with a complete loss of reality we have her going after people due to the death of an important member of the family she works with.
Her grip on reality is just completely gone and she shows her true Bloodhound nature with crazy results.
We also get a good set of political states from within Roanapur and Rock trying his best to finally do what he wanted to do in the first place. We see Rock push himself into a really dark part of the world and see Revy reacting emotionally to the changes in him. In her own way, we see her concern for things.

The Bloodhound lusts for revenge...
We're back with the Black Lagoon and Roberta has literally gone feral for bloodlust and shakes up Ronanpur to the point of the Russian, Columbian's & Hong Kong Triad and the Americans get mixed up in all this.
Black Lagoon: Roberta's Blood Trail by all accounts documents Roberta's "Blood Trails" aka. killing list for the revenge of his Master's father and though this OVA is dedicated to Roberta's rampage through Ronanpur, other players like LA aforementioned comes into the mix and plays a little game.
See after the incident in Tokyo, Rock has been in a rather deep stump as it were, unable to let that incident go, but with this new incoming hurricane shaking up Ronanpur, Rock gets into the actions, for more reasons than to stop Roberta's rampage, this…
