Chobits

Introduction

When computers start to look like humans, can love remain the same? Hideki Motosuwa is a young country boy who is studying hard to get into college. Coming from a poor background, he can barely afford the expenses, let alone the newest fad: Persocoms, personal computers that look exactly like human beings. One evening while walking home, he finds an abandoned Persocom. After taking her home and managing to activate her, she seems to be defective, as she can only say one word, "Chii," which eventually becomes her name. Unlike other Persocoms, however, Chii cannot download information onto her hard drive, so Hideki decides to teach her about the world the old-fashioned way, while studying for his college entrance exams at the same time. Along with his friends, Hideki tries to unravel the mystery of Chii, who may be a "Chobit," an urban legend about special units that have real human emotions and thoughts, and love toward their owner. But can romance flourish between a Persocom and a human? [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Don't let the cute look fool you, this is a mature, heartfelt romance with an unforgettable ending This is a classic anime filled with a wonderful balance of romance, lust, and a very happy ending. I love this show so much that it earns a perfect 10 out of 10 for me. As a very, very big fan of CLAMP who has seen almost all of their anime and read almost all of their manga at this point, this series holds a truly special place in my collection. The sci-fi romance plot is incredibly unique, and the iconic CLAMP art style is absolutely beautiful and perfectly fitting for the nostalgic, emotional atmosphere of the story. The characters themselves are brilliantly well-rounded with actual flaws and strengths, reacting to situations and events in a highly realistic, relatable way. It is a very…

This was recommended several times as a good romance anime, but it doesn’t really feel like one. Just a lot of horny jokes. The male romantic lead had beady eyes that made him hard to look at- so much so it clashed with the actual art style of the show ( all the rest of males in the show have cute eyes). Yes, he’s supposed to be a “placeholder” for the male viewer, it just was too obvious and made the romantic element fake. The female romantic lead was so cute and innocent, she basically became the mascot. It generates I higher interest in the show than it actually deserves.

Decided to rewatch this after somehow managing to get through it as a kid. It does not hold up particularly well. I found myself enjoying the storylines relating solely to Chi or other characters, but skipping through 90% of scenes with the main character because he's so boring and annoying as to be basically unwatchable. His single redeeming trait is the basic kindness he displays toward Chi, but the effect is always ruined by the creepy and overbearing way he relates to women. His only sincere interest is in getting a girlfriend, yet he's somehow too dense to notice Chi constantly hitting on him. It's hard to understand why even a robot with childlike emotional capacities who seemingly imprinted on him like a baby bird would ultimately choose to love someone so shallow and self absorbed.…

Honestly, I think this is an anime that adults should watch. At first it seems like a half-comedy, half-drama anime, but it's actually a great reflection. This anime teaches us to reflect carefully on how to view the various types of relationships that exist in this world, and shows us the importance of having someone we consider important. And the way this was done is brilliant, in my opinion, because instead of choosing a race that already exists, the author decided to use a machine, so that anyone can put themselves in its place. But leaving the philosophical part aside, this anime managed to keep me interested from beginning to end, knowing how to very well balance moments of humor and drama at the right time. This is mainly due to the charismatic, well-written and personality-filled…

No spoiler review. I found myself empathizing with the heroine "Chi" more often thatn I do the actual main male lead, due to some questionable writing decisions by modern standards, as well as the position that Chi was put in for the majority of the time of this show. However, the empathy and careful buildup of Chi's character is what this show's core is about, and was very well done in my opinion. That being said, the show promptly ruins the purpose of this buildup in the end to introduce a new character who the audience has next to no attachment to in order to serve a "greater than normal" finale was not on my bucket list. In short, it seemed to me a lot of the buildup throughout the show up till its ending was wasted by how they handled the ending. The emphasis was wrong in my opinio…

One of the aspects I deeply respect about Chobits is how Chi’s character development makes us reflect on human emotions. Despite being a machine, she expresses curiosity, kindness, and devotion in a way that feels almost more human than the actual people around her. She doesn’t just learn from Hideki; she teaches him—and the audience—valuable lessons about appreciating the small, meaningful moments in life. Chi’s journey reminded me that love isn’t just about romance—it’s about trust, care, and understanding. Even though she starts off as an empty shell, she slowly becomes someone who values the little things: a gentle touch, a kind word, the warmth of companionship. In a world obsessed with technology and perfection. I would really recommend this anime.

Absolutely rotten show. First, the relationships. Basically the main thrust of this show is the concept of a human x "persocom" (personal computer, think a humanoid computer... so a robot) relationship. There are multiple couples that end up forming and they all have some sort of relation to the idea of humans and persocoms dating. However, that kind of buries the lede because more than one are relationships where someone at least a decade their senior dates someone who is roughly 18. And it's not just an age gap, as icky as a 17-19 year old dating someone who is in their 30s is, the full-grown adults are in positions of power over the high schoolers. Not ONLY that but the men in these relationships do outright creepy things. One of them holds a girl hostage in the mountains, browbeat…

The story is plain and boring. In any case, I wouldn't enjoy it. The art style is fine. The characters were plain and had bad and cliche behavior. I only liked the opening. I hated the fetish in here. The story sometimes makes no sense or is ridiculous, and that pissed me off. Initially, I thought I was about to watch a mature anime, but it disappointed me. I hated Chii being so dumb throughout all the anime, hadn't she learned a thing? She is a machine! They would have saved themselves a lot of trouble if they had acted just a little bit. This anime is mostly liked because it is old school, but that doesn’t make it any good.

Chobits is an interesting look at romance between a human and an AI. The premise is interesting enough, and I really enjoyed seeing Hideki and Chii's relationship develop over the course of the series. With that said, I'm not full sold on the romantic aspect of their relationship. Chii herself does not come across as intellectually on the same level as Hideki, and at times their relationship feels almost more paternalistic than romantic. Hideki has to take care of Chii and explain incredibly basic things to her throughout the entire series. It's to the point that - when Chii *does* eventually confess her feelings - it's a hard sell. I didn't find it believable that she even knew what it meant to "be in love" with someone - and on that front, I feel like the series could've spent more time…

Chobits has the same characteristic quirks of every CLAMP story I've seen, as well as the same strengths and weaknesses. The characters are this show's strong point, and the plot (especially the ending) is a bit of a disappointment. The end result is a show that's overall just okay. There are aspects of it that I love, but the exposition-heavy section in the latter half gets to be a drag. In the end, I would consider its high points to be enough to justify recommending it to most, especially those who have enjoyed CLAMP stories or android-focused stories in the past.

I wanted to enjoy this anime because I remember as a kid I given 8 out of 10 on myanimelist. It is one of the first anime of watched and very much enjoyed it and now I'm watching it 12 years later and is falling asleep. I'm watching it and comedy does not hit me . it Oh no, I'm watching a girl's taking off her clothes, but it's a robot. Oh, it's so bad. I have to do something. it just is so flat to me. I just exhale of irritation. And the romance does not compel me at all so I begin to ask questions like hey where the young people working when the robots are taking their job wouldn't they be Society declined. population is going even more down because of the robot because people don't want to marry people anymore which is a part of the story but it's much later. I know this is a romance…

This is my first review of any work. I challenged myself to write this time because I feel that now I have the confidence to criticize beyond the obvious. I don't want to go on too long, I won't do a specific review of each episode or plot facts, I will do an overview addressing and discussing the nuances and ideas discussed, I will also go over the technical aspects, but I will focus on the essence of the thing. Having said that, I will move on to the analysis. Chobits is about love. He talks about many types of love, from fraternal to love complexes, such as the Eros complex, but the focus and what is most in evidence is the ontology of love, what it is and how it can be born, its limits, its beginning, its form, in other words, its nature. The problem is how he executes it, obviously…

oh.. it hurts to give this just a 6 because i genuinely enjoyed this anime in every way, but from a critical standpoint, its just.. okay! lets get the negatives out of the way first; first of all-- hideki sucks. lets get that out of the way. lack of depth, basic perverted male protag, basic design, quite annoying, it seems like the writers weren't being serious when writing him, which of course isnt a problem for a casual watcher such as myself, but when you're criticizing something its important to point out. i feel like theres only one memorable character in this entire series, chii, which each character should have some sort of depth, especially as the main character you are first introduced to. i also read the visual novel for the gba & the manga and hidekis lack of depth is consisten…

First Of all the anime was okay from the first half not my cup of tea and around the 7-8 ep it kinda got bland for me and I felt bored watching this although I gave it a full try.. and yeah not bad but not a great show seeing it's 7.4 score on mal seems reasonable although many people would rate it 10 and I understand it for some people this show might give them the feels but it was not quite the same for me. Animation-8/10 Animation was great since this anime was released around 2008 era it has a great animation for that time period and Madhouse have done a very great job in animating a Romance anime although it doesn't have any special fighting scenes it had great animation imo.. Story-7/10 Ok, The thing which gave it away for me was the story it became predictable and predictable aro…

The story mixes some elements of slice of life exploring the relationship between Hideki and Chi and also elements of mystery regarding the strange secrets regarding Chi. The first part is reasonably well done, with the show presenting a believable development of the relationship between the main characters, and also the relationship to the side characters. Though not particularly original, it does make you think about the societal implications of the existence of persecoms, and the side characters demonstrate various kinds of relationships and issues that could exist in such a society. The second part regarding the strange secrets regarding Chi is kinda trash. It's hard to talk much about it without spoiling anything, but I can say that they add nothing to the philosophical value of the…

Classic Underrated Anime! Chobits story is kinda weird. The MC leaves in a rural area and goes to the city to study and prepare for the college entrance exam. Every people living in the City have their own robot called "persocoms" to assist them in their daily life. There are 2 types of Persocoms: the mobile type and the human type, and they are very expensive. Since the MC only lives in a rural area, he can't afford to buy an expensive robot. Luckily while he was walking home from the convenience store, he found a female human-type "persocoms" in the trash. The "persocoms" name is "Chi-chan" named by MC. She has no data but she can able to learn because of her system features. After a long time of having the female "persocoms", the MC began to fall in love with Chi-chan. Story 9/10 I en…

Absolute gem. I am not writing this review in multiple paragraphs like some refined connoisseur of anime, so I'll be short and sweet, but please take my word for it when I say this is (personally) one of the best and cutest shows ever! The amount of times that I've re-watched Chobits to show a friend has been more than I can count, I've even physically bought the hardcover anniversary books just from how much I enjoyed it. Chobits is a comfy romantic comedy, and one of the first anime series I've ever seen and fell in love with. It's Sci-Fi, comedic, mysterious, and sometimes fanservice-y (if you're into that, though it definitely doesn't annoyingly interfere.) Its setting/vibe just feels so nostalgic and soothing. One of my favorite parts about this anime is the incredibly relaxing musi…

May or may not have been the second anime I ever watched. This one’s a bit of a forgotten classic where at one point it was iconic and synonymous with anime but nowadays has been forgotten was it’s fall into somewhat obscurity deserved well here’s what I think. Chobits is a what I call a split half show where one half is worse or better than the other. With Chobits the first half isn’t bad by any means it’s just ok it’s standard magical girlfriend anime fair with awkward fan service and “wacky” misunderstandings to boot its fine but I wouldn’t blame anyone for dropping it before it gets good. And by good I mean pretty good not amazing or a huge jump in quality it’s just a spark of conflict and a cryptic mystery to spice things up. The characters are alright the standouts are Sumomo and Kot…

Chobits is a rather controversial anime. He is criticized for flat characters, boring drama, and being too long. However, that doesn't make it a bad anime. In a sense, it is an antidepressant: everything seemed naive and funny, and in the process of watching my state of mind became better. I am a dreamer and this anime is my dream. Yes, he is imperfect and naive, but at the same time close in the soul, dear and pleasant. Hideki is the main character of this story. He came to the city from a small village where his best friends were cattle and a pile of dung. It's pretty simple and straight forward and doesn't really make it flat. On the contrary, his fasting makes him like us, and if you were from the village, you would behave in a similar way. Actions take place in Japan of the near fut…
