Greetings,
I don't normally write reviews, but this show deserves it. The art form is from early 1990s and I thoroughly enjoyed this as it reminded me of my childhood watching anime. Let's do a brief review:
Art style: 10/10
Story: 9/10
Music: 9/10
My biggest concern is not having more content; the background feels so rich and full of story that its a shame we didn't get more. Poignant as this may be, it may have worked in it's favor.
If you love old school, cyber-punk, sci-fi,, futurism, dark action, drama, I'd recommend you watch this. Absolutely loved the feel and overall vibe of this show and would recommend it. A real shame there's no more episodes to this show, I will miss it.

Cyber City Oedo presents an interesting concept: three criminals sentenced to life imprisonment who must work for the police to reduce their sentences, all within a cyberpunk world. The episodes feature interesting plots and ideas, effectively explore science fiction elements, and place the characters in a wide variety of settings and conflicts. Although the series doesn't aim to be philosophical or profound, the stories do provide food for thought. However, the episodic structure works against it, as it lacks a conclusive ending and doesn't feel like the protagonists have made any progress toward their goal of freedom.
Each of the three episodes focuses on one of the main trio — interesting characters with tough, distinctive personalities, whose pasts are explored in ways that match the…

The world of the future that we deserve or not?
Yoshiaki Kawajiri knows a lot about cyberpunk action films, but his talent is broken by the timing of Ova, not allowing him to reveal himself. My opinion about such ovas/films is that they are cool, but too short.
Another good work of his, a dark cyberpunk with the goals of "Kill you!" corresponding to the early 90s. Each episode tells the story of a prisoner who helps the police. In 40 minutes of the episode, the author manages to show each character from such a side that they evoke some sympathy. Drawing with attention to detail, looks impressive during action scenes, synth-pop soundtrack, simple plot, heroes - the dregs of society, cyberpunk atmosphere, a bunch of ideas - which now look as fantastic as possible.
I would gladly watch a sequ…

6/10 ~ When I say something is 6/10 I think of Cyber City 080
I cant remember how I stumbled upon this one as it is far before my time when I was young, well here I am. I did enjoy my time, and I watched all 3 episodes over a month apart and was able to keep up with what happened previously, probably only doable to the fact these are all one-shots.
Pros
- Some true golden age cyber punk anime right here
- the English dub is hilarious, truly only something that could come from an OVA
- the action was decent
- the world they pained with mostly visuals was quite enjoyable
- the upbeat synth tracks really slapped
- story was easy to follow, probably to a fault
--i did enjoy that each of the MC's got their own ep.
Cons
- the charecters were all just 1 dimensional tropes
- tho the story wa…

I'm always happy to watch anime from one of my favorite anime director , yoshiaki kawajiri.
Every time I watched an anime from him. I am hit by beautiful character design funny and entertaining fight scenes and just a mood and settings that I always find beautiful.
and of course godly amount of violence and blood and just all the detail of the human body getting exploded or maybe just caught in half. That is also part. I love in his anime.
And this time I am belief with a very funny cyberpunk anime that is on the edge to become fantasy, but is always there to tell us about all this is really sci-fi b*** instead of horror fiction.
What we have some lovely characters, some real badasses that keeps saying all the swear words in the dub and one of them have the pulpador so we are in good h…

I've just finished watching this OVA. In summary, the animation is flawless, almost at a movie level, and the design and aesthetics are even more outstanding. However, for me, this OVA was a missed potential. Many things happen without apparent reason, with little development, especially concerning the villain from the first episode, and several loose ends are left unexplained.
I believe "Cyber City Oedo" is the typical anime that you need to turn off your brain to enjoy. For those who enjoy more surreal anime or just want to watch something for entertainment, I recommend it. However, if you're expecting something more profound, I wouldn't recommend it.

I haven't seen Cyber City Oedo 808 in a long time, and I recently received the Discotek Blu-ray as a Christmas present. So I decided that today would be a good day to rewatch it. Cyber City Oedo 808 is just as awesome as I remembered. This anime is excellent in every way. You have a fantastic cast of characters who are both memorable and awesome. I like how each of the three gang members has their own distinct personality. Sengoku is a complete badass who is both funny and arrogant.
The plot is essentially a cyberpunk version of Escape from New York (1981) with a dash of Blade Runder (1982) thrown in for good measure. There are also some elements of horror incorporated into it. Yoshiaki Kawajiri (the director) did an excell…

80's cyberpunk aesthetics, violence, hunky men, hot babe, token androgynous glam-rocker, cyborgs, centrifugally stabilized space scrapers, a suicide squad plot and lots of gritty looking animation with tons of flashing highlights as sweet rides drive down the neon lit roads of the future. What's not to like?
Well, as nostalgic as I am for the 80's and 90's action flicks, it's a slow pace. While it's appreciable for the action to take its time to impart a sense of weight and risk to the main characters, it can feel sluggish to watch at other times.
It's not Akira (let's be honest, pretty much nothing is) but the animation is appreciable for its time. The stories feel a little dated, without spoiling anything, the themes and plots are largely predictable though the action sequences always…

Well, that was pretty cool.
I don't usually place my foot inside 80s or 90s anime, mostly because they're very open-ended, usually unfinished stories made to showcase a team, or a glimpse into a world. I've heard about other ones, and watched the Devilman OVA's, which ended in the year 2000. Again, my problems with what I've heard on other ones extend to here. It's an incomplete thing.
For a story, you just get a stereotype of characters that have an adventure that couples well with their skills and introductions. You have the pure brains, the brawn, and the equilibrium of both in three characters that live an experience that shows who they are, and what they fight for. There's just a bit of depth, and the dynamic works well. I just hope it was a little more. Everything feels really inco…

This series is a very solid piece of work. In my current binge of watching more from the Golden Era, I decided that following on from Angel Cop, Cyber City was next and my goodness was a glad it was. Angel Cop was good, don't get me wrong, but everything that Angel Cop was missing this had and everything Angel Cop had, this had it but better.
The show takes its time to make a prominent statement about what it's actually about, the premise behind the show. This I find lacking too often in the Golden Era. The effort is put on at the beginning to set you up nicely for the story which is about to unfold. Firstly however I will comment on the music and animation.
The animation is perfect as far as I'm concerned. Throwing the limits of the era to one side, it really is perfect. It's a very bl…

To put it bluntly - do you like the cyberpunk genre? If yes, then watch this series, you will love it. If you watched Edgerunners and really enjoyed it, I think you will enjoy this too. Hell, you'll see some eerie resemblances between the main cast of those two series too. Even Hideo Kojima himself drew this comparison on Twitter.
Cyber City Oedo 808 is a peak representation of the genre in its purest form and every fan of this type of dystopian/speculative sci-fi should watch this. Honestly, my only real complaint is how short it is and how it doesn't get enough time to truly flesh out its characters and universe.
Although it came out in 1990, this has a definitive 80s vibe to everything. The visuals, the sound effects, the designs of the futuristic tech, the awesome soundtrack, it feel…

Cyber City Oedo was very interesting. It's a creation by the legendary Yoshiaki Kawajiri that I've never seen before for some reason. I love Wicked City, Ninja Scroll, and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, but I have never watched Cyber City until now. Cyber City follows three criminals named Sengoku, Benton, and Gogul who are serving life sentences and in exchange for getting their sentences reduced, they become officers. The character designs are influenced by 80's heavy metal and of course cyberpunk, you can easily tell that this is the work of Kawajiri, and the soundtrack is filled with rocking tunes that will get you headbanging. I'd definitely recommend this if you love Kawajiri's other work along with 80's metal and cyberpunk madness, then you should watch Cyber City Oedo 808.

“Cyber City Oedo 808” is a gritty, yet aesthetically pleasing, 3-episode OVA about 3 convicts in the distant future who are given the opportunity to have their prison sentences reduced by working for the police to catch criminals themselves. While on the whole it’s a solid OVA, the frequent strobe effects used in every episode make it difficult to watch.
Each episode features a self-contained story that focuses on one of the three main characters. The plots are futuristic and sci-fi in nature, although the third one is a bit more fantasy than sci-fi. The basic elements of all three stories are easy to follow, but some of the finer details are either glossed over or inserted haphazardly, which can be frustrating.
Since there are only three standalone episodes, there is little to no charac…

Not going to go into too much detail on the synopsis or whatever. But i thoughroughly enjoyed this anime, seen so many influences in video games that seemingly stem from this.
Namely metal gear solid, where alot of the tech and ideas are clearly taken directly out of this, such as the scooba diving into shadow moses, sneaking into the tanker at the start of mgs2 to take photos and upload them, the whole vampire story line is identical to vamp in mgs2 and 4 and the way he finally dies as well with the vaccine. Also just the sniper duel in episode 3 was very reminiscent of multiple boss fights in mgs (sniper wolf, fortune, the end).
Also clearly cyberpunk 2077 took huge inspirations as well with jackie being modeled after one of the main trio, and the fight with the cyborg is the final bos…

Catching criminals to reduce your own sentence is a scenario that's going to lead to some fireworks, and fits right into the Cyperpunk world of Cyber City Oedo. A 3-episode OVA, each episode focuses on a different character (all of whom are former criminals). The highlights of this short show are the solid animation and surprisingly good production values. If the character design wasn't so early 90's, it'd be tough to tell it was made 30 odd years ago, although I suppose the cell animation makes it a bit more obvious. The soundtrack is surprisingly minimalist, and it works. There’re two different soundtracks, but I think anything other than the original Japanese version wouldn't suit the mood.
The first episode was probably my favourite. It’s a basic heist scenario but it was a good intro…

This anime was very short, but what I loved most about it. Was not only the the era that in which it was created in, but by the personalities that each of the three characters possessed. Although all three were in fact working together to comeplete their each individual missions that unltimatly came together as one most very important mission. But, what I don't like is that both the end of episode one and the end of episode two didn't show what happened in the end, it sort of cut off, before even finishing the important parts so to speak. And I found that very annoying. Otherwise, although short, this anime was created during a time where you didn't have to worry about hurting other people's feelings.

This OVA is my favorite Kawajiri Yoshiaki work, and I adore everything about it.
First, the world building of the "Cyber City" is very interesting starting from the police system to the space station technology and kinds of crimes shown. I think it is a not too far-fetched cyberpunk anime, that usefully incorporated possible technology into its story (of course I wouldn't say its realistic but instead with a tasteful dose of romance).
Second, the characters are very polished and have a deep history that is very lightly shown in references from the past to their reason to having sentences. Which makes me super curious yet satisfied with what is shown in each episode. I really think this could've had the potential to be a longer series with maybe even a movie under its belt to fully grasp…

Art & Sound - Masterclass, pure hand drawn work from the unadulterated original Japanese idea, their execution is not just good it's just flawless, every single detail is preserved from the small scale displays to the car shine under the light, the dystopian crime underworld in a very advanced futuristic city, the color, the atmosphere and the whole animation sequences are just phenomenal and also the gothic style is present despite the huge sci fi aspect. The main characters are very well drawn, so are the supporting ones for them. Also the Voicing is superb, very perfect and matches the expressions, the sound mixing for the weapons and the actions sequences are superbly made with passion and love, simply flawless.
Story - Story is the only place where it just falls a little bit short b…

Sometimes I want to watch something that just gets right to it and know exactly what it wants to be. And one of the best examples of something like this is Cyber City Oedo 808
In the year 2808, crime rates are at an all time high. To help try and lower the crime rates, the Cyber Police unit decided to employ hardened criminals with talents suited to certain jobs by promising to reduce their sentences if they comply. This 3 episode OVA follows three such criminals, Sengoku, Gogol, and Benten, who happen to be serving more than 300 years each in an orbital penitentiary. And to keep the criminals in check, they`re forced to wear collars that can be remotely detonated, killing them instantly if they don`t complete their missions on time or try to escape.
And right of the bat it`s a shame tha…

Ima keep this short. In fact, so short that this paragraph is just filler to reach the minimum amount of words required. Can I start yet? Ok.
Cyber City is amazing, but I suggest you dont go in with absurdly high expectations thinking the entire thing is the best Cyberpunk anime ever made. Let me explain.
Each episode is dedicated to one character and out of the three episodes 1 is good, the other is peak cyberpunk masterpiece and the other is kind of stupid and out of place.
The first episode is good standard cyberpunk action. I don't have much to say about it.
The second episode, o boy, this shit is quite literally peak 80s cyberpunk in its final form. Everything is perfect, the mood, the characters, the fights, the main villain. I wont give any details so I wont spoil it. Its only 4…
