First off: If you haven't already, find and watch the intro "We Were Lovers". This intro is outstanding, based on a classical music piece but with added lyrics.
This is one show that turns out way better than its art style would suggest.
It's a revenge-based plot, and revenge is always a hard topic. But the revenge isn't so strong that the show becomes repulsive (like I had experienced when watching Redo of Healer).
Instead, we have a spinoff of the 1800s tale, where everything is futuristic and the Count looks like a blue vampire from all his years of pursuing revenge.
The plot is very compelling, and you will speed through 24 episodes to watch it all. Which is one of the greatest compliments I can give the show, since most shows I put down within 1-3 episodes.
Some people say the art…

Rather rare to hear this show being talked about nowadays (after gigguk talked about it in his 2019 video, it kinda just faded into obscurity) The greatest revenge story in this medium ( some would say.)
This anime is an adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo novel although not a faithful one as this is written from one of the side character's POV instead of Monte Cristo himself. Even though it is very easy to predict the plot twists and style of writing, I believe that most people should give it a watch , like watch the entire series. (yes, it's that good)
Story (9/10): Set in a futuristic world and mainly in France. The core themes of betrayal, vengeance, and class disparity are timeless. With 0 filler episodes, each episode develops the plot and thickens it by adding layers to every c…

This story is unique but predictable and I enjoyed very much, and the art is good. The character franz was great because he represents the friendship bonds between frans and Albert but it was that trying to save his friend he sacrifice himself, sometimes we found people that we wish to stay forever like friends but franz death was so heartbreaking that I get emotional. This anime is top tear, the story is great and I really wish people found this anime and understand how good it is. This anime is same age is me and I really like character story, emotions and bonds between friendship. This anime will be my top ten anime I am writing this review so people get intrested in this anime.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you've never read the book, go ahead and watch this. If you've read the book however, I'd avoid this with all haste.
This butchers the book in so many different ways and adds in weird technology for no reason. So many weird things are added in that also make no sense whatsoever and characters that are never seen together end up meeting like Morrel's kid and Villefort. Not to mention Franz is just here the entire time, when in the story he is in Italy for most of it and only comes back when it's time to marry Valentine.

Going into this anime with absolutely no idea what it was about was truly an experience. I didn’t know it’s an adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas until I finished it and searched reviews/analysis online. I’ll definitely be reading it as soon as I can.
About the anime, I’ll be looking at it as something that stands on its own, also because from what I read, it differs from the book in ending and setting.
Firstly, I loved the art. If you, like me, enjoy anything visually interesting, this is definitely for you. I think it does a great job at immersing the viewer. The extravagance of it all for me was the cherry on top to this french aristocrat world. Also, the recaps in french at the start were just so good.
The story is absolutely captivating, and I was intrigued…

A horrible meaningless anime at first seems interesting, but the story is really absurd and bad, taking into account the animation that is extremely bizarre and crazy, mixed with the main story it has a horrible development and many things that happen in the anime do not They have senses.
The personalities of everyone in the anime are pathetic and make no sense, the entire anime makes you feel uncomfortable watching it. The only thing you need to know to rate this anime is to use logic and argument, I won't go any further.
I totally regret seeing this but at least I finished it, it was bizarre from start to finish the most redeeming thing I get from it is that it doesn't make sense
and they use cheesy words from start to finish.

I can completely understand why this anime gained popularity and a following. It has a distinct art style and a fun adapted setting in space. Although the style itself was a bit distracting for me, I appreciated the creativity art-wise, and my eyes grew accustomed to the extreme movements in the background and clothing after a few episodes.
However, I value plot and character quality very highly. If I consider this anime in a vacuum (ie: not as an adaptation), the plot and characters are roughly average: mostly shallow, with some interesting slightly-less-shallow characters sprinkled in. Unfortunately, the main character, the Count himself, is bulldozed flat by the anime adaptation. He just becomes just another visually-impressive revenge-crazed character. I believe in giving adaptations…

This is an old tale which has many different mediums covering it's epicness, all of them taking their liberties and changing it for modern audiences. Those aside, so far this has been the best abridged version since the original tale/book.
Not from the same era yet it rivals Shakespeare in my eyes. It has the same qualities in many regards for those who are a fan of Shakespeare. King Lear being my favorite, I guess it's not an understatement to the testament of my opinion on the comparison.
It starts as a slow burn, getting you at ease with the environment, the elegance, prestige & characters. Introducing philosophy and psychological fencing within your mind to arouse a sense of - where is this going? Once you cross that threshold you will be at the edge of your seat wanting to see what…

Anime Genre Roulette 🎰 Review 12 🎰 Suspense
Well, this anime really lives up to it's genre, suspense, mystery, and epic cliff hangers, along with an absolutely unique artstyle
You are very much an observer in this, the series doesn't do much in terms of letting you walk in the characters shoes, which in this case, might actually be a positive, cuz you wouldn't want to be in most of these character's shoes, let alone relate to them
The entire anime is basically a showcase of the utter degeneracy of the elites, uncensored i will add
Needless to warn you, this show is NOT for everyone, i will go as far as to say it at times is beyond disgusting, but it's also so gruesomely true
Now if you've read this far and have decided you can stomach the absolute filth that is covered in this series…

This is one of my most favorite Animes in the whole world. One of the best revenge stories I have ever watched. It makes sense on why it's a good Revenge story because it's based off of an 1844 novel sharing the same name The Count of Monte Cristo. With this anime taking place in the future instead of the past it makes the modifications to make the story relevant to this time less jarring and barely noticeable with its unique take. I highly recommend this anime to anybody that just enjoys animation. It's animated the same way that Chowder from Cartoon Network is animated but it gives it such a unique Artful surreal version of the story. I could not talk this anime up anymore. If you want a fun binge watch of an enchanting and thrilling story I highly recommend this and with a nice big bowl…

Just to preface, I watched this without reading or knowing of the original story this is based on. I expected a great, exciting story of revenge and manipulation, but it didn't really deliver.
Story - 5
The story is meh. I think it starts out well but then goes downhill when you start to get close to the climax. It is a revenge story, but it doesn't feel as intense as you may think it would, and when you do get to super exciting/suspenseful moments, something will happen like someone being destroyed by a hug... not even joking. Or, someone will show how conceited they are and how all they care about is power by literally shooting people close to them for no reason... but then very soon after, be willing to give up their lives for those some people? Now I see how characters can change and…

The animation is unique... but kinda hit or miss in terms of execution. Not a whole lot of flash and not incredible when it is flashy. The art style is really cool and it at times super well implemented. Other times it looks bad, the cg clashes hard with the art style and the color choice and patterns can make the animation too busy. The characters are pretty solid. Some characters are a little mustache twirly, but overall very good, a little annoying at times though. The story is the best part of the anime. Great world building, intriguing plot and some great twists and turns, although the climax is a little nonsensical. Pacing is terrible in the first half, but pretty decent in the second half. The first half is very slow, while the second half really hold your attention well. The voice…

Just a quick summary of my thoughts. As a whole the story was exceptionally executed. All the characters were well fleshed out even the side characters. Having not read the book I cant contrast to the story but how everyone was intertwined was masterfully handled. I found the sub and dub both equally enjoyable. 9/10. The art while ambitious wasn't as well executed as Mononoke(Not the Ghibli one) which gave me a similar vibe art wise. I found the CGI to be over used and subpar but the character animation and color palet was great (7/10). I would average it out to an 8 and will likely be reading the book shortly because it's that good.

Madame, Monsiuer bonsoir,
Finished it last night. Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo is loosely based off of the French novelist and dramatist, Alexandre Dumas' novel of the same name, The Count of Monte Cristo, which is widely regarded as the greatest revenge story ever told. Well, it is.
Gankutsuou is set in the year 5053 when French aristocrat Albert de Morcef alongside his best friend Franz attend a festival on the planet Luna. Franz while looking for fun on the planet, Albert seeks something else, which he finds in the Count of Monte Cristo after a fateful encounter, a mysterious and charming nobleman. After Befriending the Count, Albert invites him to Paris. The Count, however, has more on his mind than just friendship.
Although the story revolves around the count who is madly…

Gankutsuou is a really special anime and at the end of it made me sad that special and creative anime like this just don't get made that often any more. When I first started this anime, the second the opening credits filled the screen I knew this was going to be special and it delivered with an art style that is really unique, well written characters, and a world that is both enchanting however slightly confusing in the best way possible. The music composed by Jean-Jacques Burnel always filled this world with wonder and each track never sounded off. Now with the story, this anime is an adaptation of the original novel "The Count of Monte Cristo" (written by Dumas) or at least the later end of the story. If you have interest in the classic story about Edmond Dantes seeking revenge on the pe…

Gankutsuou
A loose anime adaptation of the classic revenge story Count of Monte Cristo, which in my opinion not only its best adaptation but also one of the best anime series that I have ever watched.
As someone who already likes the OG Count of Monte Cristo novel by Alexandre Dumas, this was basically a real treat for me. It's basically the Count of Monte Cristo story, but this time accompanied by some insane anime visuals from the art direction team (the art directors being Hiroshi Sasaki and Yusuke Takeda and Character designs done by anime artists Hidenori Matsubara) and some insane anime exaggeration.
Story - For the most part, it's basically just the original story by Dumas, which I've already stated is a story that I already admired before watching this anime. but later on in the…

Gankutsuou stands alone as an anime where I hate every single character for the right reasons, and still hate the anime as a whole. Every character is bad in a good way, but the plot still didn’t do anything worth watching.
Before I delve more into why the plot is terrible, I do want to mention that Gankutsuou is the worst looking anime I’ve ever seen. This vector style texturing borderline hurt my eyes just looking at it. Absolutely disgusting.
Now to the plot, but don’t worry I won’t spoil anything, not that there’s anything to spoil anyways. I feel like Gankutsuou was going for Monster style vibes, shrouding itself in a lot of mystery and having the climaxes be these grandiose revelations. This would’ve been amazing if the writing was any good or if the plot made any sense. It feels…

This is a hard series to review. Never has their been a show soo good and soo bad. My feelings for it changed throughout bouncing from total enjoyment to tiring. Its hard to give a thorough review of the plot without spoilers so I'll brush over it quickly. This is a story of revenge and retribution. A story of adventure and mystery set place in a magical world. It takes place in the distant future where deep space travel is commonplace. You dont quite know whats going on and this is further enhanced with the art.
Art is a 10/10. A very unique style seen nowhere else that harmonizes so well with the plot, setting, and mystery that unfolds. Its a riot and takes you along for the ride that is Gankutsuou. Because of this, it gets a pass for alot of things that dont add up. One minute your in…

Up until approximately episode 16, the series was amazing and engaging. However, it became totally shallow and without any evolution.
What did the end of the anime want to teach? Who knows... The anime was reduced to 24 long episodes of pure revenge and nothing more.
Everyone loves the Count of Monte Cristo. The plot tries to convey the view that "don't be angry with him, he suffered a lot, everything is justified". And then we see the protagonist chasing after him despite everything, like the little puppy he always was. And all this for what? ANYTHING!
The Count of Monte Cristo hasn't changed a thousandth of his mind. To the end he used everyone, including his loyal servants, to exact his revenge on innocent people who had nothing to do with his suffering.
Yes, it's true that the Count of…
