This show is really good ! 😀
Pros:
The biggest issue for some would be the CGI. Personally, the CGI is the best part of this show. It creates a "bouncy" look that's hard to recreate in drawing. This makes the musical performances feel so much more intense, and the "camera" work is very well done. The CGI is barely noticeable anyway, as it doesn't look like they are protruding out of the atmosphere.
The narratives for each character are very well done, except for Rupa. They all explore different forms of rebellion against external
pressure and are thoroughly developed. Some are fucked up, and others can be not as fucked up 😗.
The music is decent; some of the songs might feel empty, while others feel fully fleshed out. The main theme of the songs is very emo and high-energy. I do wish…

I'll be honest I almost skipped Girls Band Cry.
Not because I thought it looked bad, but because I barely even knew it existed. It was one of those anime that somehow flew under a lot of people's radar. It was already difficult to get into since it wasn't properly available in many regions, and honestly, not gonna lie, I literally had to go out of my way just to watch it.
Which is honestly crazy when you think about how good this show turned out to be.
Because after finally watching it, I genuinely couldn't understand how something this good was being missed by so many people. Girls Band Cry isn't just another cute girls forming a band anime. It might look like one at first glance but underneath the music and colorful visuals is a surprisingly raw story about anger, loneliness, failure,…

Girls Band Cry had all the ingredients to be something special. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite stick the landing.
Where the show truly shines is its music. The performances are produced with obvious passion and attention to detail, and the musical accuracy in the animation is a lovely touch for anyone who plays any of the instruments featured. You can tell real care went into that side of things.
The story itself leans on a pretty milked premise, country girl moves to the big city, tries to find her place. It's not a dealbreaker on its own but it's a familiar setup, and the show never really does enough to make you forget that.
The bigger issue is the MC. The sheer volume of cringey, drawn-out eyeroll moments made certain episodes genuinely painful to sit through (Eg: the pinky ordeal)…

I like how this show feels less like a typical music anime and more like sitting in a cramped room while people try, and fail, to understand each other.
It doesn’t rush to make you like its characters. In fact, at times it almost pushes you away. Conversations stall, people say the wrong thing, tensions hang in the air longer than you expect. That awkwardness is intentional. It gives the characters space to feel like actual people rather than cleanly written roles.
The band itself isn’t some smooth, inspiring unit from the start. It’s unstable. Personal issues bleed into rehearsals, small disagreements turn into bigger ones, and progress comes in uneven bursts. When they finally manage to sync, even briefly, it carries weight because you’ve seen how fragile that balance is.
The music w…

I thoroughly enjoyed almost every aspect about Girls Band Cry and its very rare for me to finish an show as fast as I did this one these days. The story is good, consistent and not boring at all. Although its nothing special that makes it stand out from other band anime but I don't think it needs to when its sporting some of the best CGI and music I have experienced in any show ever. All the characters bar one feel fleshed out and their circumstances push the narrative forward in a good way.
But there is one negative I felt pretty largely that has stopped this show getting a 10 and that is the 'main character' Nina. I have to say, without a doubt, she is one of the most frustrating, annoying and unlikeable MC's I have ever seen. She feels overly engineered to be a toxic plague in the band…

This anime is awful, the protagonist is incredibly ANNOYING. WATCH THIS ANIME IF YOU WANT TO WASTE YOUR TIME. pqp
NINA makes me feel angry, lazy, and irritated; she's such an annoying character. (I probably hated the anime because of her.)
The history was bad too in my opinion - they always come back to the same subject and NINA ALWAYS makes unnecessary drama and is always wrong (and shes the protagonist, in the end SHE IS RIGHT FOR THEM)
I wonder if her fans would be happy if they knew how she really is.
And another thing that bothers me is that they became famous very quickly, there wasnt a single disappointment on stage, even for the first episode, with so many people listening to them.

For an anime about music, specifically J-rock, there was a distinct lack of good songs. I would outright say that the OP is bad music-wise. The only decent songs were the instrumental tracks, and that's only because they kept playing the leitmotif of the OP, and I'm a sucker for those.
CG animation was okay. Story and characters were melodramatic as hell. The first few episodes centered so much around characters 'leaving the band', to the point where the term entered my vocab.
To finish this review, I am lowkey baffled at the amount of praise regarding this show. Maybe it's just not my thing. I don't know.

This is what I wanted K-On! to be, best music anime I've seen yet. The biggest difference to versions of "girl band anime" I've seen before is that the characters all feel like real people instead of various paper-thin cute archetypes. What's also not paper-thin here is the animation, the new 3D CGI animation style allows instruments to look like they're being played accurately for the first time, if you're a musician you will appreciate that you can analyze the mo-cap performances similar to real shows. Finally, if you're a fan of J-Rock the original songs are genuinely great, and the concept to form a real-life band to write and perform the songs, in addition to voicing their respective characters, adds a dimension of authenticity and "realness" to the whole production.

A stylistically expressive, yet realistic character-driven exploration into the world of music, an industry that prioritizes trends, money, and success, and those who struggle to exist in this environment while being true to themselves. Girls Band Cry is foremost a compelling interpersonal drama that uses the outlet of creative expression of playing in a band to support the overarching themes of independence, public perception, self-confidence, and acceptance. Stunning 3D animation allowed for dynamic perspectives throughout performances, visual effects cleverly captured emotional weight, and character interactions and narrative pacing were thorough. The world may not always accept you, but that does not mean you are wrong.

Girls Band Cry is a story written backwards.
An in media res where first we see our characters acting, and only at the end we learn why they acted.
It's a story about "Kara no Hako", a song which inspires two girls, two bands, but makes them choose different paths, each believing that they're the "true followers" of a song about making a difficult decision and not looking back, and they handle their bands like they handle their lives.
GBC is incredibly "Japanese" in that regard: Hina and Diamond Dust represent the "shoganai" mentality, that there are certain things that you should only accept, deal with, that doing so is a proof of maturity, the only way of living successfully and that you will be rewarded bu doing so (Or, at the very least, not being punished)... and they're never proven…

I really, really enjoyed this! It is an overall good show that has some incredibly powerful moments (the ending of episode 8 and the 3-episode run of 10-12 come to mind), and due to those moments, it never stops being engaging. The dynamic between Nina and Momoka especially was the highlight of the show for me, that, and the insanely stellar music sequences, which I am sure everyone has as their highlights for this show.
The animation was great and very expressive, and the animation in the music numbers work so damn well and make them the major set pieces they deserve to be. Needless to say, the songs are fantastic as well.
My only real critique is the show's length: Some plot points and character developments did feel a bit rushed due to the show's short runtime, and it leaves the viewer…

I absolutely loved watching Girls Band Cry! The art style is refreshingly unique compared to most anime, and the animation is incredibly smooth—definitely the best I've seen in this style. The music is fantastic, and there's plenty of drama (and I mean A LOT), which I really enjoy.
Subaru was a standout character for me, her approach to handling the girls' public arguments was both clever and hilarious! I'm eagerly hoping for a Season 2 to come out soon! Heard they are hosting live concerts so really amazing hopefully I can get their tickets!!
(Overall 10/10 yes for me yes yes mhm) (Opening 8/10 not bad) (really hoped there were more male characters ikikik) (Definitely recommend!!)

This is definitely the masterpiece among the 'girls rock band animes', especially if you understand the cultural background of Japan, and J-POP scene. To be honest, I wrote the apologize letter to Bocchi and Hirasawa Yui after watching the anime.
Especially Eastern Asia countries, the harmony(Wa, 和) among the people is regarded as the important value in Japan. It means sometimes, to avoid conflicts, Japanese society forces a big pressure to individuals. In the case of the anime, you can think of the case of dealing with the Ijime of Iseri Nina. They focused on solving the problem without conflict, rather than judgement. Ijime culture was started in the context of Wa(和). They just want to exclude someone has the danger to break the harmony and make a different view.
It leads to getting a…

Not great not bad. Somewhere along the lines of slightly better than average is what I felt about this anime
I watched girls band cry right after watching it's Mygo!!!!! And the sequel Ave Mujica. Simply put it was like watching a copy of its Mygo!!!!! but not as good. This review is going to be a direct comparison as I can't think of two animes that are so similar.
They are so similar that the entire time It felt as i was watching the same anime but with different characters, settings, and different problems. Both animes first and foremost fall into the category of drama and music. Both animes feature dysfunctional bands which argue amongst each other. Both animes focus on the character dynamics and relationships with each other. Both animes have the girls carry different problems. B…

Like many series before it, Girls Band Cry tries to make you care about our characters through their music. This isn't anything we haven't seen before - K-On, Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night and Fuuka to name a few - but as the anime industry starts to get more and more of these music-related series, I can't help but try a bunch of them out.
Story & Characters: Girls Band Cry actually starts out very similarly to Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night, in that we have our main character, Nina Iseri, who can't quite seem to be able to find where she wants to be after just finishing high school. She's had a lot of things happen to her that make her feel like the world is against her - this ranges from bullying in school to unsupportive parents and peers. Look, finding our way in life sucks whe…

The 3D animation is a bit janky at first for those not used to it, but it's actually quite good, and it kind of resembles Honkai: Star Rail.
As for the story, if you can get past the first 6 episodes of drama, it transforms into a marvelous story. Not that the drama is bad. In fact, it kinda *has to* be there for the story to develop and stuff.
The characters are... kind of rough. Especially the MC. She's very VERY narrow for the first half of the show, and that can be a turn off for a lot of people. The other characters are otherwise much more well-rounded.
Overall, not a bad anime. There's definitely worse out there, but there is also better, especially in the genre.

I was really hesitant to start this when I saw that it was a 3D anime, after all my experience with with genre has never been very good, and even Suzume failed to deliver the same charm that I still believe it would have had it been produced a few years later or in 2D.
And yet I was drawn in by the first episode. It's a bit cliche, yes. (Jellyfish Can't Swim had the same opening after all.) I guess I'm a bit of a sucker for stories about helping small artists. The dynamic between Momoka and Nina from the beginning was adorable. Nina herself was just full of surprises, but I'll save my complaints for later.
Animation was a solid 6/10 for me. Not bad, not amazing, but pretty decent and just a slight bit above my expectations. The first clip I saw of GBC, I was really turned away because…

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Watching this show and the Shiny Colors anime back to back is like stinkin night and day! This is without question the greatest 3D animated anime I've ever seen in my life. It gave me so much hope for this style of animation to become more mainstream in the future. There was not a SECOND of stiff expressions or still, sluggish movement in this entire show! EVERYTHING is in constant motion and feels so alive and vibrant in ways that I never even thought were possible in 3D anime! Any sort of limitations or restrictions I thought the technology had was just completely shattered by this show. And it even sprinkles in 2D animation with its opening and in various flashbacks within the show that l…

THE GOOD:
The show displays some incredible CGI: the expressiveness of the MCs is as good as the best traditional productions, with a touch that only 3D models can give (e.g. hair physics, dynamic shots, etc.). Then we have the concert sequences: their visuals, animations and direction are nothing short of impressive. This anime is definitely worth a watch for those alone.
Music production is also quite decent... It's a series centered on a band, the opposite would have been a disaster. :)
The main characters are well written: they all have their unique personality and motivations, and most of them showcase an interesting growth. Some don't get the development they deserve, like Rupa, and Nina is a royal PITA up until ep. 10, but their banters and interactons are enjoyable.
THE MEH:

3DCG in anime = bad? FOR ONCE I can say that this isn't the case! I know there are other examples of good 3D CG anime out there but this is the first one I've touched that I personally enjoyed.
Plot is decent and takes a realistic approach to the indie music industry, its honestly quite relatable in certain levels, the MC leaves a bit more to be desired at the start and I can certainly understand why someone would drop it at episode 1 but trust me when I say "let her cook".
Visuals/Animation, I never thought I'd see the day where I'd enjoy 3DCG but this one just does it in its own stylistic way. Its not trying to be a 2D anime, its conscious of what it is and what its good at, instead of trying to pass itself as a 2D drawn anime. They did an amazing job animating this!
Music, all opini…
