Bocchi the Rock!

Bocchi the Rock!

Introduction

Yearning to make friends and perform live with a band, lonely and socially anxious Hitori "Bocchi" Gotou devotes her time to playing the guitar. On a fateful day, Bocchi meets the outgoing drummer Nijika Ijichi, who invites her to join Kessoku Band when their guitarist, Ikuyo Kita, flees before their first show. Soon after, Bocchi meets her final bandmate—the cool bassist Ryou Yamada. Although their first performance together is subpar, the girls feel empowered by their shared love for music, and they are soon rejoined by Kita. Finding happiness in performing, Bocchi and her bandmates put their hearts into improving as musicians while making the most of their fleeting high school days. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

I'm not really the type of person to watch an anime without a dub, but some people around me started talking about Bocchi the Rock!, and I decided to watch it because it seemed fun. I didn't really expect much, but Bocchi the Rock! was seriously an amazing series; I had so much fun watching it It honestly shines the most with the characters Bocchi, Nijika, Ryo, and Kita; they were all really enjoyable characters with fun and interesting dynamics between them. It really felt like they were a friend group, and it's honestly my favorite part of the entire anime. The music was also great, which should be expected in a music anime, but I still wanted to point out how much I liked all of the music. Same thing with the comedy: I really loved how creative it was, even using real video and photos…

If you're into J-rock and CGDCT anime, then you can not skip Bocchi the Rock. The characters in the show are far from shallow, but instead deep and actually drive the plot forward, which I feel a lot of slice of life animes and CGDCT anime aren't very good at doing cus they often dont take themselves seriously at all and use it as an excuse to write shallow characters, but not here. The premise is simple, but Bocchi as a character is so relatable and realistic, that when she succeeds in the show, you can't help but get all proud of her and stuff, its awesome. The humor is very Nichijou-esqe, as in random stuff happening all the time, which I personally find hilarious. The music, holy crap, the music is incredible too. Punchy, fast and reflecting is what I would describe it as.

Where oh where to start with Bocchi the Rock. For starters its a comedy anime that focuses on a shy, guitar slinging girl with literally zero friends until she decides to join a band. Not to spoil it too much but I think it does a great job on defining introverts, not to say that all introverts act the same but Bocchi's approach toward social realization felt so very real. Real as in it doesn't happen overnight, this isn't like those single chapters in shonen manga dedicated to opening up a introverted character and then never touching the subject again, Bocchi's growth is so gradual that if an uninformed viewer were to watch the beginning and ending episodes of Bocchi the Rock they'll only maybe be able to find a difference in Bocchi's mannerisms. But that, in truth, is the beauty of Bocc…

I’m a guy who had zero interest in guitar or music in general, but after watching Bocchi the Rock!, I bought a guitar. Then I realized, “Oh shit, this is harder than I thought” And now, after 3 months of training, guess what? I’m still shit. Anyway, this anime is absolutely amazing and funny as hell. Hitori, aka Guitarhero, relates to me so much, and she really shows how much we shy people suffer. ;( The animation is really great. Maybe there’s some CGI here and there while they’re playing music, but who cares? The characters are also amazing, especially Ikuyo Kita and Hitori. They’re both really fun to watch, and the whole cast is great. And of course, the music. this is a music anime after all. And lemme tell you, it’s really damn good. school concert and sick hack are some of my fa…

I got to relate so much to bocchi and her journey with social anxiety, it gets better and I didn't notice how I got better with time and good people around still needs a lot of work to do and I've learned so many stuff from her, I'm going to do the stuff that I like more and make memories to go back to in the future, good watch so funny especially when they shift the animation weirdly to 3d or realism, and the way she keeps disappearing it was hilarious... And in addition the characters were so rich and each given there moments to show what kind of people they represent clearly I just want to watch something funny and heartwarming like this again.

Absolute joyful masterpiece - mixed with how good this anime is and the time I watched it at being after watching a bunch of traumatic animes this only just enhanced my experience - I don’t think there’s a single character I dislike in this show and watching bocchi break out of her shell over the season and break out of her introverted habits was so great to see - the music was absolutely incredible and felt so realistic as if they were all genuine artists creating music - the animation and how the characters moved on stage when it came to the instruments also couldn’t have been any better as it truly felt like how an actual artist would handle the instrument - Bocchi supremacy 4life🎸

most average piece of shit imaginable. And somehow a hit because of modern slice-of-life escapist shit and people enjoying anxious quirky characters. None of this characters are interesting to me or provide entertainment to me. Bocchi is just a basic, boring overstated anxious person, who pursued music not for a love of art but a desire to be noticed, which just makes her seem shallow, which doesn't have to be a bad thing but when their defining character trait other than anxiety is something they have a shallow connection to, it's just poor. I don't remember any of the other characters because they are boring as fuck. I don't know, i want this genre to die. Art meh, voice acting and music good.

Fall 2022 was an absolute bloodbath for weebs and gamers. You had Chainsaw Man, Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War making its legendary return, Mob Psycho 100 III delivering an emotional masterpiece towards its ending, SPY×FAMILY Part 2 dominating every wholesome category, Blue Lock, My Hero Academia Season 6 throwing hands every single week and The Eminence in Shadow. It was one of the most stacked anime seasons in years. Buried underneath the giants of Fall 2022 was a tiny band anime, a girl hiding behind a mango box and nobody expected it to become one of the biggest surprises this season. - STORY: DID SOMEONE SAY K-ON???? When you first hear that Bocchi the Rock is about a group of girls starting a band, it might sound familiar? "OH, IT'S K-ON!" No.. Its not K-on because this is what h…

Nothing groundbreaking is going on in this show but it is a fun look into the world of indie rock bands. If your first instinct is to compare it to K-On then I'd say you're right, but this show is more realistic in the sense that you can tell an actual musician made it. There's certain details and cinematic elements chosen that make me sure of it being a guitarist myself. The musical gear used is wildly accurate, and you can tell they put their experiences into that side of the show. The characters are your typical wholesome anime group of teen girls with exclusive hair colors to help you tell them apart. They're delightful as expected but it all sticks to the typical anime formula for the most part. The blue haired one is a little withdrawn yet talented. The red haired one is firey with…

I would think to start that certain animes are not for everyone if it isn't your style no need to continue. If you are intending to have high expectations on this anime and bias from previous genres that it says, than it isn't for you. That being said this has been a very difficult anime to finish. I really had to eradicate the concepts of hoping something is different and losing my expectations upon my hypocrisy because I really wanted this to be a good watch, and yet I am just conflicted. I don't have to give details on what the characters are, this can be seen on other reviews, my biggest conflicting emotions throughout the entire anime was on the portrayal of social anxiety through the MC. On a neutral note, yes we can be aware our MC has social anxiety to extreme levels, and though…

Amusing, honest, and fun-spirited, albeit a tad saccharine. After nearly three years of dillydallying, I finally watched Bocchi the Rock! and it was… fun. Most of the jokes landed and its representation of social anxiety wasn’t mean-spirited, but the narrative didn’t progress very much, lingering largely on moe shenanigans; thus begging the question why it landed so much harder than most moe high school comedies, a question likely answered by intensity. Bocchi certainly commits to the zany intensity of its visual humour, but it also commits to a genuine appreciation for classic J-rock and the environment(s) that generated it. Turns out all you need is a few AKFG references to remind me how much I appreciate music.

Bocchi the rock have a lovely minimalist character designs, exaggerated expressions and chaotic animated gags. However, for an anime about music, I really felt like there could have been more songs, the songs were great, the vocals were beautiful, and the instruments really stood out, Bocchi, in particular, played very well. That said, the focus on character development was fun to watch, especially with a character as troubled as Bocchi. Using real-world photos for some background scenes struck me as pretty absurd, especially since it was so obvious, but it fit the anime’s aesthetic really well and definitely grabs your attention in those scenes, it creates a really immersive experience while watching

Most band anime use music and band formation as the destination, but Bocchi the Rock! uses it as a vehicle for personal growth. While series like K-On! focus on friendship and the joy of being in a band, and Nana explores the ambitions and relationships surrounding music, Bocchi centers on the struggle to connect with others despite overwhelming social anxiety. What makes the series so compelling is that Bocchi's growth feels earned. She never undergoes a dramatic transformation; instead, she improves little by little through small victories and setbacks that feel genuine and relatable. The anime constantly shifts animation styles, using visual metaphors, surreal comedy, and even stop-motion to give the viewers a taste of Bocchi's mental state. These techniques transform a simple coming-o…

I remember when I said I didn’t want to watch bocchi because she was “unrealistic representation of social anxiety” that shit was dumb af, bocchi is peak can wait for S2 Bocchi The Rock was a beautiful yet unique experience of a anime ive watched. now i know im a bit late to write a review on this show 4 years to late in fact but ohwell. This show was a beautiful crafted adaptation which ive read right before writing this review, they capture Bocchi so well of this girl is to scared to even talk to someone, but she somehow musters up the courage to preform songs for a band. when i was starting to watch this i got alot of second hand embarrassment from it but slowly through all the tough scenes and moments of cringe i saw how this shy girl developed into a great character. At the end o…

Bocchi the Rock isn't just a comedy — it's an explosion of energy that turns social anxiety into an absurd yet surprisingly funny spectacle The visual style and fast pace make it clear that normal rules don't apply here. The jokes don't just come from the dialogue, but from the way the animation itself becomes the punchline. Scenes can range from scenes where the animation changes 180° to moments where reality itself changes completely. The characters are the heart of this anime. Each member of the cast brings a different dynamic, and the interactions between them create a perfect balance between chaos and genuine chemistry. Their personalities are the core of the entire series The animation is, without exaggeration, one of the most creative aspects. The style is constantly changing to…

Bocchi the Rock! This anime always intrigued me but I always ended up not starting it even after preparing myself to watch it but then one day I just decided to watch it and oh boy the anime is so fun, i regret not watching it earlier . The animations are so uniwue along side the real backgrounds they used in certain scenes which made their work less for sure but that didn't ruin the anime one bit, the chibi and the main animations both are so sleak and the story is hillarious on its own with the jokes complimenting every dialogue and the main character Hitori is so fun to watch being so closed and introvert the struggle sure is real and ik the anime has shown it a little too much but still the execution has made the intensity bearable and all the friends of Hitori are fun as hell everyo…

Bocchi the Rock is a great insight into social anxiety and how being nudged into touching grass can help. Bocchi desperately wants friends and all she needed to do was try. She never ‘gets over’ her social anxiety and no one should expect her to. Bocchi starts the show completely isolated and ends it with a group of friends, a band, and a chance not to be forced into normal jobber life; and none of this comes alongside a magical fix to her mental health. I really liked Bocchis fear of hanging out with Kessoku Band outside of work and practice because she didn’t want to be annoying. It’s a classic idea in discussions of anxiety but it cuts very deep. The Culture festival is another great scene, multiple great songs followed by Bocch making a fool out of herself to get out of public speaki…

Bocchi is a show anyone can relate to, especially if you've been a part of any kind of band. The music was amazing, and the fact that there were multiple different EDs made it that much better. Surprisingly, the animation was amazing, and at least to me was almost Peanuts-esque in some of the expressions. The story is a great mix of wholesome hard work and well-timed jokes/gags. I think the differences between characters were perfect, while also giving them shared feelings as well. If the show did have a cliche, it was used effectively and in a refreshing way. The only gripe I have is that 4 years later, there is still no second season D:. MUST WATCH! <@:D -The Yogster

'Bocchi the Rock!' is an anime that rears its head now and again when you're a fan of K-On! and Gochiusa, being extremely popular in that circle. It reminds me of Ken Kaniff. 'You're a rockboy, everybody wants you.' But it's not half of the anime they are. To quote Ken Kaniff, 'You're gayer.' I dropped this anime halfway through before picking it up again. The reason for the latter action was that I found out Maaya Uchida was one of the side characters. She kept me going, and it was interesting to see her performance as the older sister of one of the protagonists, whose name I don't remember. It was completely different from what she sounded like as Syaro Kirima, whose name Myanimelist still has misspelt as Sharo. They've also written Kokoa instead of Cocoa. I'm surprised they haven't wri…

‎This anime tell a story of a loner high school girl. Which, despite her struggle with social anxiety, she still try her best to overcome her weakness. Expect a lot of relatable moment if you are a loner too. Because me myself actually finding it strange how accurate they depicts it. Like I thought I'm just the only one who feel like that, but turns out its a universal thing too. An anime focus on loner doesn't mean there will be no other characters, that would be a bad anime if it only contains the main character. We get to meet the friends she made along the journey of Bocchi becoming the rockstar. ‎ ‎The loner part isn't the only plot in this anime. Heck I don't even think its the main plot either. The main plot is actually about our MC trying to strive in a small indie band. Hence the…
