Insomniacs After School

Insomniacs After School

Introduction

High schooler Ganta Nakami has trouble falling asleep most nights. As a result, he is irritable at school, always searching for an opportunity to find a secluded place to doze off. On the other hand, Isaki Magari is a free spirit who is well liked by her friends, but no one is aware of her sleep disorder. She makes use of the school's abandoned astronomy club observatory as her secret sleeping bunker when she needs to get some shut-eye. As fate would have it, Nakami finds Magari napping in the observatory. When Magari discovers that she and Nakami have something in common, she offers to share her secret sleeping spot with her fellow insomniac. As the two find warmth in each other's company, the struggles they face start to become easier to confront. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

This was a really refreshing, wholesome, and cute show. The whole romanticization of Japanese high school life thing has been done countless times in anime, but this one really does it in a satisfying way. Nakami and Isaki's love story is about as perfect as you can get while still capturing a sense of realism and peak innocence that is pretty unique to this anime. They're two young adults sharing an almost flawless first love at an age before they're tainted by all of the complications of older adult life. You get the classic "overly serious boy meets fun and free spirited girl" plot but they pull it off in a way that never feels forced or stale. I always enjoy shows where it's clear that someone wrote about what they were passionate about. Whoever wrote this clearly knows a lot about as…

God, I love this anime so much. I remember I initially watched it when it was airing and liked it enough to start reading the manga around episode 7, but it's been three years since and I've lost almost all memory of the series. So, I decided to return and actually finish the full anime this time around. And yeah, I love it to pieces. It's almost everything I've wanted in a romance anime. It doesn't feel too over the top. The characters slowly build feelings for each other. There's no dumb misunderstandings. And, of course, it feels so, so cosy. I love the ED, too. The OP is alright but the ED is something else. Homecomings' "Lapse" is the song that introduced me to the band, and even though Lapse was on my top 5 most listened to for both 2023 and 2024, I didn't think to listen to their…

Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia is a school romance with a pleasant atmosphere that, through the relationship of two teenagers suffering from insomnia, addresses issues like the struggle with loneliness, finding emotional refuge, and gradually maturing through shared experiences. The anime is recognizable for its gorgeous, striking shots of the night sky, warm tones, authentic character design, and soothing ambient music. The structure is episodic, following a series of events from the high school life of the main characters Ganta and Magari. They begin their relationship with a chance meeting in the school observatory and, through work on joint projects, gradual acquaintance, and mutual support, manage to build a healthy relationship. Although the narrative focuses primarily on the main roman…

Just awesome and beautiful. I don’t know why some people in the review section are calling it bland. life's not about being pessimistic and only liking shows and animes which only depict the sadness in life. This is an anime that shows you can get over suffering by being with someone who's going through the same condition,at least they try to get over it.You can relate to this anime if you’re also suffering from insomnia. You may not have someone in your life like they had each other. But watching them heal makes your heart melt. I loved the animation of this show too.It used vibrant colours to show the natural aesthetics I highly recommended this anime. The background score matched the soothing aesthetics of the show.It is a must watch.Thank you for reading.

100 percent recommended everything is great amazing show great story every character is beautifully written great music it was a great story altogether Just finished Insomniacs After School and wow… this anime quietly became one of the most beautiful shows I’ve watched. Insomniacs After School doesn’t rely on crazy drama or over-the-top romance. Instead, it tells a soft, honest story about two people who simply can’t sleep and end up finding comfort in each other during the quietest hours of the night. The atmosphere is incredible — the late-night skies, empty streets, and peaceful silence feel almost therapeutic. Every scene with Ganta and Isaki feels genuine, awkward, and warm in a way that makes their relationship feel real rather than “anime-romance.” What really stood out to me was ho…

Insomniacs After School "A+" (9/10 MAL) Story/Plot (9.5/10) - I would like to start off by saying that the romance genre is probably the genre I most heavily criticize in Anime. In a genre filled with over milked tropes and clones of one another, Insomniacs After School manages to set itself apart from any romance anime I’ve seen to this point. Insomniacs After School is incredibly well put together and refreshing using more or less somewhat common tropes in the genre and breathes fresh air into them. Even with this being a high-school romance the tone feels much more mature, something I can appreciate as I often abstain from the rom-com genre because of its lock of originality and troubles of falling within common barriers. Insomniacs After School follows two sleep deprived insomniacs, I…

This show evokes a weird feeling out of me while thinking back about it, kinda of like a false sense of nostalgia. Every time I see screenshots or frames of this show I feel like it was a cool, dramatic, really interesting show but every time I think about it I can't ever remember anything being that interesting. I liked the ending but its no heartstring-puller. Nothing of this show particularly stands out as great but it is in no way a bad show. I was pretty invested in it for a day or two but I really don't know why. I can't say this is worth a watch just because it feels like it was supposed to be so much better than it was. I'd say it's the absolute middle road of romance animes. The romance is good, prolly somewhere between high 6 and low 8 out of ten, but that is geniunely the only t…

Insomniacs After School honestly left something in me that I just can’t shake off. So here I am, trying to put into words what this anime made me feel. I don't think I’ll do justice to it, but I’ll try. This is a story about two people who can’t sleep. Sounds simple, right? But it’s so much more than that. Nakami and Isaki aren't just "insomniacs" for the sake of it. They’re both carrying a quiet loneliness, a kind of ache that doesn’t scream for attention but just sits with you in the silence of the night. That feeling when everyone else has dozed off and you're just lying there, thoughts racing, heart heavy... this anime captures that. So intimately. From the very first episode, I felt weirdly understood. I’ve had nights like that, you know? Where sleep just doesn’t come. Not because I…

Just completed it and idk what to say about it , its all in all just a wholesome rom com of 2 people with their own problems getting closer day by day having fun with their friends and stuff. There isnt really much of a struggle or anything but the calm relaxed nature of this show and how it lets the romance flow is something which makes me like it . Great show , Beautiful animations, Great character building , all the characters were quite endearing and overall was a great experience to watch. Truly binge watch worthy leaving a sad feeling in your heart after it ends due to just how good it is.

I tried this on a whim for no particular reason and I was smitten with it from the very first episode. Being an insomniac and slowly taking an interest in astronomy and being in a similar relationship once, it felt like this show was directly touching my heart. That being said, it doesn't really offer that much, the pacing in the second half feels off and I was under the impression that a lot of the content of the 125 chapter long manga it's based on was skipped to cram it all into 13 episodes. If that's the case, it also explains the characters, which aside from two exceptions fall very flat. What I really liked about it though, was the somewhat realistic romance between teenagers still in school, I found it to be refreshing. So, while it doesn't have much staying power, it's a sweet ro…

Story & Characters: Insomniacs After School is a sweet, sweet high school romance series that has far more depth than I was expecting from a series in this genre. Ganta Nakami has serious issues sleeping at night and doesn't really know what to do with his time that he's always awake. That is, until he takes a sudden interest in both astronomy and photo taking. Put these together and you get the basic plot for a character that has a lot he wants to do. That's not without his number two - Isaki Magari, another high schooler who stays up all night due to a lack of desire to sleep. Both characters have a surprising amount of depth to them. They really don't start out as much more than normal school kids. Ganta isn't exactly an outgoing character and really only has the time for his best budd…

Insomniacs After School beautifully portrays the vulnerability, intimacy, and fleeting moments that come with romance in following two youths struggling with the ill effects of insomnia. Few anime capture the vivid emotion that comes with immersing oneself in the present. The interpersonal connection between Ganta and Isaki has sincerity, tackling emotional sensitivity, understanding, and self-acceptance through wholesome open communication. Moreover, it expertly approaches themes involving the mundane but relatable challenges in life, the setbacks that come with them, and learning to find happiness in circumstances out of your control. Finally, it is tied together with an atmospheric opening, ending, and soundtrack. This is genuine storytelling.

Absolutely beautiful Show. I can't describe how great this show was - and I only heard about it by random chance on a review for another show I watched. I guess it was literally in the stars for me to see this show lol. The premise is pretty basic, but the journey after the initial meeting the two MCs go on for the rest of the season is truly one of the best crafted stories you'll see in this media. No of the over-the-top antics or silliness you get from other shows in this genre, just good old fashion story telling. I do hope for a Season 2, but in the mean time, I will 100% be checking out the Manga because I need to know how this turns out. Top praise to the Author and staff for creating a Gem of a story in both mediums.

A Review of the Best Romance Anime(and Manga) The title of the review isn’t exactly hyperbole, although there is definitely a mix of bias in my review but I genuinely believe the show is easily the best romance anime of at least the last decade or so…Here is a spoiler-free(ish) review of prolly my fave comfort anime(and manga). There will be mild spoilers in some section but as a whole, I don’t think the spoilers would deter one’s enjoyment of the story as there is no mind blowing plot points to worry about. (Just a little disclaimer: Whenever I would be referring Ganta and Isaki(show’s main lead), I would describe them as “night owls” because…why not? They are insomniacs too…lol) Insomniacs After School is one of the most kindest and wholesome stories out there that touches right at the…

One of the most innocent, purest romance anime out there. There are not many tropes like in other romance animes, their connection and feelings seem natural, the way they fall for each other over time is a great journey, it's nothing like a boring slow burn. The only criticism one can have is the pacing. Even without being familiar with the source material you will feel that some scenes got cut, meaning sometimes there's no continuation or consequence for some stories or actions, sometimes there's a weird time skip. Other than that there's no other issue with this anime, it does everything as it should. The music is fitting, the scenery is always charming with the night sky. The characters and dialouges are both on point. For anyone who likes romance or slice of life it's a must watch,…

This is a treasure. This is something beautiful and rare in the sea of mediocreness. This is a warm blanket. It makes you feel warm inside. This is Bob Ross of a show. It speaks to you softly and makes you feel at ease. This is Yuru Camp of romance (What?). I admire the creators of the manga and adaptation for following a clear path. I feel like they had to say no to so many things. The mainstream romance 101 list went to trash and it's still (or rather because of that) a beautiful, touching, romantic piece of art. That's why this feels so good. I am so tired of those tropes forcibly thrown at me, repeating over and over in each production. Here there are so many situations where in my mind I was picturing the usual thing to happen in a standard show, but every time I got surprised h…

so this is my first time writing a review after a few years of using MAL. as someone who really loves astronomy, i can say this anime is really good and beautiful. when I saw the genre I thought this was a normal anime and when I watched it wow this is not just romance but there are some comedies, slice of life, and school genres. the last time I watched an anime with an astronomical theme was just "koisuru asteroid" then I really wanted to find another anime. and I accidentally found this anime. this really makes me grateful and happy. thank you for making this beautiful anime 10/10 of course, I enjoyed every single thing in this anime especially the astrophotography concept

The premise of the anime is simple: two people with the same problem (insomnia) find each other by accident, and well, the story starts. As cliche as the idea may sound, Insomniacs deliver on it far better than many. It's a dive into insecurities, fears, feelings and dreams of two people, a story of personal growth and overcoming problems. Loved it. Now for the more in detail review: Animation: 9/10 - Starry skies and landscapes are absolutely astonishing, but some of the other scenes look rather choppy. It was rather nice to look at overall. Creativity: 9/10 - It's a unique show in terms of theme, that is astrophotography, and Insomniacs doubles down on that making the two MC insomniac, which not only makes perfect sense, but gives them a sense of connection. Characters: 8.5/10 - The two…

This is a wonderful anime. I can't think of a better word to describe it. Not the absolute best anime I've ever seen, but near the top. Let me tell you why. This anime is about two teenagers who have insomnia, for different reasons. They find each other by looking for a quiet place to sleep during the day, and throughout this anime, they bond over this shared affliction, growing closer and having adventures while everyone else is asleep. It took me a little while to identify what makes this anime so good (as I say sometimes about the really good anime), but once I figured it out, it was blindingly obvious. This is not a cheesy anime romance. The male MC isn't scared of girls and acting over-the-top embarrassed whenever he even touches one. The female MC doesn't just decide she likes the…

Inconsistent, Plotless, Complete waste of time. There is literally no story, the romance is also pretty bland without any drama. Honestly pretty disappointed by the poster. I thought it would be some kind of cool astrologist typo anime with a little bit romance here and there but in reality it was just a sad life story of a highschooler who cant sleep and then he somehow gets into taking idle photos of sky while trying to find a sleeping place in an abandoned club .Would not recommend this to anyone who has this kind of perception going into the anime because you're gonna get your time wasted. And it doesnt even deserve 7 let alone 8, maybe the beach scene got people to rate it higher Even scum wish was better. atleast it had some story
