WOW, WOW, and WOW. Phew, I’m still shaking from it. That was amazing. I need to catch my breath. These are my genuine feelings after finishing the movie. I decided to put this at the beginning to emphasize how much the movie impacted me. For me, the movie has an amazing atmosphere that completely drew me in from the very beginning. At first, I couldn’t figure out the point, but it gradually began to reveal itself, so I just had to wait—but even after finishing it, I’m not sure if I really understood it. I really loved the arsenal of World War II German weapons, such as the the MG42, MP43, and MP44. I also liked the artwork and animation; I’m a fan of older works, and it surprises me that there are people who “grumble” about them as if newer ones were better, but that’s just my opinion. Th…

Very simply this film is a bad film with absolutely top notch animation. Unbelievable animation. Everything else is forgettable. Watch the first 15 minutes and you got the very best of the film. The reason for this I think is simple. The film is an adaptation of a manga series about the political intrigues of a very complex world -akin to Ghost in the Shell-. By skimming through it the film attempts to present part of the story but it has no backdrop to build on. Such a situation is nothing new but it is truly a shame because clearly Among the annoying things that this film adds are the endless contemplatory scenes where I guess the audience is meant to think about a complex situation that has been presented... Except there is nothing to chew on. Seriously, I turned off the sound and it i…

Definitely worth watching, though it will leave you alone at the end. Which acts a double-edged sword for the movie itself. Beautiful animation, great voice acting. Cons are that the main character is very muted and bland, side character can ramble from time to time. The only complaint is that story can be dragged at various points , basically it's hard to understand the motive and concept which is supposed to be known with a ease glance for newbie anime watchers, still story does enough to keep viewer going and wanting more . Sadly we ain't getting more parts for better understanding of complex politics which is shown in movie .

"Democracy without a voice is a dictatorship in disguise." Let me start by saying this is a very, VERY, complex movie. It is genuinely hard to wrap your head around. This is a symbolic movie, not a movie about the plot, the characters, or the enjoyment. You will not derive any sort of pleasure from any of those. It is depressing, it looks sad, it invokes melancholic feelings. You want to know why? Dictatorships. This is a great example of totalitarian government, fascism, despotism, monarchy, etc. Each character is a mess due to the world around them. SECT is the perfect example of "One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist." Fighting for democracy and radical change. All the while, Kerberos represents authoritarianism and what not. It blends perfectly as you sit there watching…

Around 10 or so years ago, I came across this film when scrolling through my fyp on YouTube. Before that I watched "Sword of the Stranger" which left me quite underwhelmed with its slow plot, uninteresting story progression and having its only saving grace be the battle and fight sequences. So having for its thumbnail be this person clad in black, heavy metal, militaristic gear, wielding a gattling gun and piercing into the viewers direction with crimson glowing eyes, was intriguing. So I pressed play, made myself comfortable and two hours flew quicker by than you can say it out loud. Because, wow, did I just witness a masterpiece unfold before my eyes.

Jin-Rou is probably one of the pinnacles of early 2000s animation. This film has some of the most fantastic animation that I have ever witnessed in almost everything that I have watched. It is so smooth that it almost gives the impression that the characters you see are in fact, real. It's hard to describe beyond saying that the animation takes on a three dimensional form even though it was animated in only two dimensions. Small details such as waving hair, shifts in clothing, the way characters move through the world, are all so meticulously drawn for every frame. It is on a level of animation that one could argue even exceeds a Ghibli film in terms of impressiveness. In my interpretation of this film, we watch our protagonist Fuse slowly loose their individuality as a cog in the machin…

At first I found myself lost to what this movie truly is about when the credits rolled, but after giving it some thought, I realised just how gut wrenching and deeply upsetting this movie truly is. There truly is no good or bad in this movie, every single character is written very well with great intentions and amazing twists, and even if you do choose to think that one person is in the wrong, you will find that the other is no better, if not worse, than the one you have decided is the better party. The animation is gorgeous, gory and matches the tone perfectly. The design of the armours and clothing are intimidating and pull the scenario together very very well. The scenery is absolutely beautiful, from the skies to the burning city roads to the sewers. I am blown away by this great piec…

6.0/10 ~ Destined to be remembered as that one Nazi movie I will occasionally see clips of this movie come up every now and then from the first bit of the movie. Today I finally decided to watch this one to see what all the low key hype was about. Pros: - Intro, about the first 15-20 minutes was an extremely strong start and honestly if they just kept it as a short it would have gone down as a legendary piece. Less is more - the setting of the story in alternate 1950's Japan was pretty neat - the movies action and suspense was all pretty well done - despite the movie not landing on any one point its pacing and story structure was actually very well done - animation was pretty good - English dub wasn't horrible - people who think that this stole from fallout seriously need to go read a…

Tl-Dr: Jin-Rou: The Wolf Brigade is a devastatingly gorgeous film, while beyond stellar visually, it is a very nihilistic narrative statement on political power, while it maintains order, it destroys the individuals who are that cog in the machine. Proposing that where there exists order, exists chaos. Story: 10/10 Characters: 10/10 Sound 8/10 Art: 10/10 Overall:10 Real review: From the very beginning to the very end, Jin-Rou kept me on the edge of my seat. It is a beautifully animated, gripping political thriller with a dark and cynical view of the world. One of the most interesting aspects of Jin-Rou is the philosophical exploration of political power and its consequences. The main character, Kazuki Fuse, is torn between his loyalty and his humanity. A wolf cannot choose its path, and…

Jin-Roh is a movie best known for its art design. The beautifully animated shootout scenes have made their way into many a YouTube edit and the iconic armor design has laid the foundation for the modern 'technofascist' aesthetic. You can see it referenced in countless works, with the most obvious examples being Killzone and the modern Wolfenstein games. The design has been so influential that it has completely overshadowed the rest of the movie. I have personally recommended Jin-Roh to several of my friends and while none of them had ever heard about it, most of them recognized the armor. This, combined with the very common memes, has led to a shift in perception, where most people online have absolutely no idea what the movie is about. From the way people talk about it, you would think th…

"Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade" is a work that is characterized by its unique atmosphere and deep meaning. The events unfolding in National Socialist Japan in the 1960s, creating a backdrop that immediately captures the viewer's attention. It is obvious that the movie is carefully crafted to convey not only the complex political and social aspects of the time, but also the inner world of the characters. The setting, being a vassal of the Third Reich, adds elements of tension and drama, creating a thought-provoking atmosphere. But what makes this movie truly great is not only the context of the time and events, but also the deep characters. The relationships set amidst political intrige and a totalitarian regime allow the viewer to delve into the subtle nuances of moral dilemmas and internal…

There is discontent among the people under a police state--rebels protest against the authoritarian regime, and risk-laden steps are taken to attempt to sow chaos and spread unrest. Among the rebels are those who are more organized and more prepared than the average citizen who has been riled up, but the state is not without its own measures: a special unit is dispatched to rout a terrorist operation underway underground while the flames of a revolt are being doused on the streets above. One member of this elite squad encounters one of the rebels - a young girl, her eyes wide in fear - and he is unable to fulfill his cleansing directive, hesitating to gun her down where she stands. This results in her pulling the pin to her bomb which consequently endangers the life of this soldier and the…

This is a great film. One that keeps you engaged throughout. It has everyone you need for a good solid film. Its not perfect by any means but looks, sounds and is worth your time. Firstly the animation is lovely. I'm a sucker for 90s animation so maybe I am a little biased here, but nevertheless, it's stunning. The characters all look great and you can tell significant attention was paid to all of them. In scenes with many characters, even thr characters in the background have been realistically animation, not just the ones in the forefront. No more is this on display that the opening scene. The characters look fluid and, as much as animation can be, look realistic. This is something I feel is missing from modern animation. In the 90s, there was a realism to the characters, nowadays, the…

An engrossing and thought-provoking film that descends into the nuances of politics, power, and identity. The film is a visual feast, with the dark and moody animation complimenting the gritty nature of the story well. What makes Jin Roh so special is its portrayal of how war affects psychologically on both individual and societal levels. The characters struggle with their humanity as well as the blurring of borders between duty and personal values. The political entice and metaphorical themes add layers of complexity to the film, making it one that stays with you long after the credits have rolled. I watched the film a week ago and I still cannot describe it in words how hard this film impacted me. Not counting End of Evangelion, this might be my favorite anime film of all time even ahea…

The story takes place in a fictional 1950s Japan, where an elite paramilitary force called the Capital Police, known as the "Wolf Brigade," maintains order amidst growing civil unrest. The protagonist, Kazuki Fuse, is a member of this force and finds himself caught between his allegiance to the government and his developing sympathy for a group of rebels known as the Sect. I suggest not reading reviews before watching a story as it can ruin the element of surprise. I gave this a 10. What I will say is that it's an old animation that some people won't find that emotional due to it's 2000s storytelling style. Nowadays modern anime focus on flashy and "cool" animations without uniqueness and substance. Jin-Rou is a good example of a movie with unique substance. It's a rather straightforward and short movie that can leave a lot desired like Princess Mononoke. Keep an open mind that these movies are old and are what shaped similar animations, tropes and stories today. Whether it is left open for interpretation or not, that's what a story should do, to get the audience thinking and craving for what happens next. Some writers have different reasons to create their…

This movie was a breath of fresh air! I enjoyed everything about Jin Roh. The movie does a really good of capturing emotion and storytelling. I really like how throughout the film, you really get a feel of the atmosphere and world of Jin Roh. Examples like the time period of WW2, seeing old school volkswagens, the type of clothes people are wearing roaming through the streets and feeling the animosity between the two parties fighting. Not much bad things I can say about this film as I mentioned before that I enjoyed everything. Characters, Music, Animation, and Plot were all top-notch imo. I will say, that this is not a happy-go lucky story as it does touch on some serious topics throughout human history like war, social radical change and terrorism. Additionally, I love how you can see…

I don't really know where to start with this one, but I guess the first thing I will say is that I've noticed that outside of Ghost in the Shell, I have not really cared much for Mamoru Oshii projects: I've started (and in these cases dropped) both The Sky Crawlers and Angel's Egg. It's nothing against him, and I recognize that he is a talented filmmaker, but there's just something about his minimalist storytelling that I just really do not enjoy most of the time. Talking specifically about Jin-Rou, though, I will start with the good. The animation quality, especially with facial expressions, is insanely good, almost scarily so. The first act of the plot is compelling and paced extremely well. But that's about it. The bad is almost entirely plot and character based. The main issue with…

I liked the beginning and end but I was honestly pretty bored for most of the middle. Idk if I just didn't get it or not but it didn't do much for me. Personally in terms of enjoyment, I'd probably give it a 5/10 but I do feel like I just didn't get it or it wasn't for me so I'll give it a 6. At least a lot of the animation, especially during the combat sequences, were nice. I honestly did not care for any of the characters much, they didn't really connect to me on a personal level. Maybe if I rewatched this, I would like it more but idk. 6/10

"If a building can disappear in a single day....its like it was never there. its kind of like when people die." I will try to keep it as spoiler-free as possible. So lets begin, Jin-rou is not everyone's cup of tea i can vouch for it. Its a decent watch if you ask me but if you're expecting some over the top romance or some unrealistic action sequences because the genre tags say so than its definitely not for you. This movie takes place in japan, post world war 2 with civil unrests and terrorists running rampant. Our protagonist is "Kazuki Fuse" from counter-terrorism unit. later mentally traumatized as he fails in stopping a young teenager from carrying suicide bombing, for which he is sent back to the military academy for re-evaluation.
