Cowboy Bebop: The Movie

Cowboy Bebop: The Movie

Introduction

Another day, another bounty—such is the life of the often unlucky crew of the Bebop. However, this routine is interrupted when Faye, who is chasing a fairly worthless target on Mars, witnesses an oil tanker suddenly explode, causing mass hysteria. As casualties mount due to a strange disease spreading through the smoke from the blast, a whopping three hundred million woolong price is placed on the head of the supposed perpetrator. With lives at stake and a solution to their money problems in sight, the Bebop crew springs into action. Spike, Jet, Faye, and Edward, followed closely by Ein, split up to pursue different leads across Alba City. Through their individual investigations, they discover a cover-up scheme involving a pharmaceutical company, revealing a plot that reaches much further than the ragtag team of bounty hunters could have realized. Cowboy Bebop The Movie is about the Bebop crew attempting to stop a terrorist named Vincent from releasing a deadly bioweapon onto a planet. This movie felt like a two hour long episode of your standard Bebop adventure. And luckily, I like that. I don’t think it’s revolutionizing or anything, but it does what it does pretty well. I’ll start with the animation, it’s beautiful. The hand drawn animation, the lighting, and the landscapes are done really well, that classic 90s feel never gets old. I’ve praised Cowboy Bebop’s music in the past, and that doesn’t change here. The blend of jazz and rock was great, and every soundtrack was good. I also think there use of fight scenes was really well executed, it all felt well grounded and realistic with heavy blows throughout. From a production sta…

Oh the infamous sole Cowboy Bebop movie. A fan would really hope for a sequel or even a continuation of the storylines for our favorite characters, possibly even an answer on what the hell happened in the ending. Yet we get Knockin' on Heavens Door, a really good movie that appeals most to the fans. I really wouldn't suggest this for newcomers. What makes Cowboy Bebop a timeless classic is how interesting it comes to you and the mature times it holds. The movie has most of these but I feel like it really isn't that memorable. Vincent, the main villain, reminds me of that one villain in the original show. The one that talks about God and the creation of God. This one sounds like a broken record and an imitation of the old Spike, before he met Julius. More of this nihilistic wise guys inste…

The perfection of the 90s, now with the animation the work always deserved. Cowboy Bebop: Tengoku no Tobira is, in a way, the most refined version of everything Cowboy Bebop built. It doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, and it doesn't need to. Here, the approach is more direct, more objective, but still full of the unique identity that made the series so special. Unlike the more contemplative episodic narrative of the anime, the film follows a more classic structure: there's a major criminal, an absurd bounty, and a race against time. The story takes place at a specific point in the timeline where the entire Bebop crew is reunited, which is, in itself, a great attraction for those who followed the series. At first glance, the plot may seem simple: hunt down a biological terrorist before…

If this was a movie with real actors, this movie would be on all the greatest movies of all time lists. It has everything: beautiful women, handsome men, bright style, jaw-dropping action, great humor, insightful drama, a simple plot for the average viewer and room for philosophy for those who like it, a quality soundtrack, ideal pacing and an incredible atmosphere. You can watch it completely separate from the main story; it’s a standalone story in its own right. Well, it’s a true masterpiece, nothing more, nothing less. Every element—from the pacing to the characters, the music, and the animation—complements each other perfectly. It’s a deep, poignant story, very mature, one that you’ll want to keep thinking about long after you’ve

It's a movie about life, about how to choose the life we want to live, how to live fully in the present, and how to make the most of the short life we have in this world, But beyond that, the movie does its best to make this feel like a real place, a real world, a world just as lived and realized as, say, New York City, and it's not so much about these larger-than-life characters as it is about these just-as-life people who exist in it just like you and me and everyone else. It's just something that doesn't last two minutes, but it might be the most authentic movie that exists.

What I love most about Cowboy Bebop: The Movie is how easily it fits into the series while still feeling like a full-fledged cinematic experience. It does not read as a story that doesn't fit or a cash-grab; instead, it just takes everything amazing about the series and blows it out with more time, grander visuals, and a greater budget. The story of an evil bioweapon on Mars was very compelling, especially with its use of nanomachines, which felt all too believable. It's science fiction, sure, but it doesn't seem so far-fetched anymore, so the whole setup was actually a little creepy in a good way. Vincent was also an excellent villain, and fighting him was a major highlight for me. They actually showed Spike's martial arts prowess in a way that the show hardly touched, and it gave the fil…

Just rewatched this masterpiece of a film. Cowboy Bebop is one of my favourite anime series I have ever watched, I love its deep and thought provoking characters and story. Granted the story is usually very self contained per episode, but they can still envoke deep and thoughtful ideas. The movie is basically is a 110 minute episode of the show, and it’s great! It has all the complexities that make our characters great. The animation is stellar, and the music is at its best, which is saying a lot as the music in Cowboy Bebop is amazing at its worst. Another thing to compliment about the film is that it’s very self contained like the episodes. You don’t need to watch the series to understand this movie, it introduces and gets you well versed in what it takes place in just by itself (Much…

First of all, is my first try with this movie. I watched this movie for parts because I got a busy life between family, job and my own time. So my opinion is based on a detailed analysis but I'm not gonna try to go deep on it. The movie is amazing, the art and music (like always in Cowboy Bebop) never never lets me down. In this specific case, colors and art have something new that make me feel like movie wasn't made the year it was released. Wich is amazing. Story and new characters are developed meticulously to be friendly with the spectator, so you gonna feel a special link with characters. Specially the main characters. Duration of this movie is perfect, not too long, not too short. Should I recommend this movie? Ofcours I will, but first. I recommend the anime and after watch i…

New York but on Mars I really enjoy the movie it has such a perfect vibe , lived in feeling. It feels like we are taking a look into a world that will be here after it has closed the movie. just has the perfect world building without even having to Tell about it. And after have watched the show all of the plot point come back to what have happened there, but not in This is a sequel move, i heard about this in the show and now we see it again in the movie it just such a connected feeling to it. This movie Feels Like A Love letter to America cinema. it has so much music and just love behind it. I really enjoyed a feeling of just walking down a street and listening to the music and seeing this world that looks like our own but a little bit different. And the plot just brings more elements…

A solid addition to Cowboy Bebop with its good pacing, great soundtrack, solid animation and engaging story. A guaranteed good time if you've enjoyed Cowboy Bebop, and able to be watched during Cowboy Bebop or afterwards, neither are better or worse ways of approaching this movie. While the characters introduced in this movie aren't the most compelling, they still can stand on their own. The soundtrack in particular really stood out to me as many of the songs were instant hits for me, which is to be expected of Seatbelts. Definitely recommend to anyone watching or finished with Cowboy Bebop.

I watched the dub in theater a few months ago during a special showing, and HOLY STYLE it was good! Incredible animation, great fight choreography, awesome dogfight scenes, and great voice acting. I had a smile on my face the whole way through. The musical score fit in great, complimenting each scene beautifully, as a series named after a music genre should. The first scene had some really cool animation that drew my in and set sophisticated vibes. The only reason I'm not rating this a 10/10 is that sometimes Spike's character and dialogue is so calm and cool in tense situations that he can skirt the border with being tropey.

It's basically an extended episode of Cowboy Bebop, which is what I wanted and that's exactly what I got. Most anime movies usually have nothing to do with the show. In fact, you could skip them entirely and it wouldn't make a difference in the story. I mean there's obviously exceptions (Ex: Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train) but the vast majority of movies are pretty pointless and you may or may not get entertainment out of it depending on the quality. And some people might say the same thing with this movie, but I think it works for Cowboy Bebop because each episode of the show has its own storyline that doesn't really connect with the next one. So to have a movie that also has its own episodic storyline, fits right in with the show. As for the movie itself, well…

They thought they could just buy the rights to clone characters and we'll swallow the media like animals who neither care nor know what they are eating. Anyone who watched the series for its storytelling could tell this is the extracted commercial version of the series sold out to Mr.risk-free-corporate so a marketing team armed with all the audience reports money can buy could pimp it out to a mass of horny "fans" who couldn't give a buck what sucked them off behind the dumpster as long as it ended in "bebop". [Quotes from the meetings with producers & teams] "...you think? in case you don't know the kind of money they put into this thing, they want real music, the good stuff; none of that confusing jazz shit... oh, about that; Yoko Kanno's just a credit, we had her supervise and let ou…

One of the most gorgeously animated films of all time, remarkable pacing, and never a dull moment. The perfect way to expand on the beloved masterpiece of a series. This movie is action packed, and filled to the brim with both exciting and beautifully choreographed fight sequences, it will amaze, surprise, and amuse it's audience, with it's compelling plot and wildly entertaining characters. While the story isn’t perfect and kind of ends abruptly, it is well worth your time and energy. Its soundtrack is astounding as you would expect if you watched the series. I'm so glad I got the chance to see it in theaters.

It's an excellent film, but very poorly used. Cowboy Bebop is an excellent anime where absolutely everything is very well used, it has many interesting subtexts/subplots, very well-made characters, sensational direction and equally very good stories. But the film isn't much, unlike the anime where almost every episode served to deepen the characters with interesting plots, here we have the same characters, just more “basic”, a cool and interesting villain, but very weak in terms of script. . The film looks like an episode of cowboy bebop, only extended, it's cool, it has incredible animation done by Bones, but it was a very poorly used film, it has an interesting plot, but it's nothing special. Don't get me wrong, it's a great film, but I thought it had a lot of potential to be bigger, but…

Oh how I love the world of Bebop. I honestly have no idea why I waited so long to watch this. Who doesn't love a good space opera? One thing is for certain, this is better than good. The animation is chef's kiss good and for 2001 it's excellent. It has the elegance of the 90s with the fluidity and smoothness of the modern era. Its pretty much the pinnacle of 90s animation. As always the characters designs are great and out main antagonist is absolutely spot on. There really is something special about our protagonists; Spike, Jet, Faye and Edward. Just seeing them again, for one last time, hits you with a kick of nostalgia you didn't know you needed. There is a special place is a lot of people's heart for Bebop and for those who are yet to watch this film, and are a Bebop fan, you'll likel…

Basically this spin-off movie is as good as a 90 minute Cowboy Bebop episode, ie very good. You don't need to have seen the series beforehand, but as the show is so good and introduces each character you might as well. The film is set around episode 20. Better than the show? Between 1998's CB series and 2001's CB movie the animation has taken two leaps forward: in terms of motion where the fights flow like ballet (how do they make conflict so elegant?) and in terms of composition the parallels and perpendicular lines in the background are composed with the care of a Kubrick. In a few instances there is a real sense of threat to the main characters that you just don't get in the show. They hit pretty hard. New character Elektra looks excellent, her face and expressions could be a Joe Ma…

Commonly recognized as one of the great early-2000s anime movies, but less so as an unlikely candidate for best non-horror yearly Halloween rewatch. Spike's illusive, at times mystical lost chapter in his journey for closure is a worthy send off for fans of the original series, thanks in no small part to its grounded presentation and industry-standard technical quality. The spiritual themes and nuanced symbolism that mark some of the iconic moments of the series make themselves at home here, in turn giving some of the most intense sequences a genuine deep dive quality throughout some of the darkest waters of Spike's characterization. It's a solid action thriller under the Bebop brand, with beautifully animated fistfights, shootouts and chase sequences, featuring some of the best tunes writ…

I made it pretty obvious in my review of the Cowboy Bebop series that I am not a big fan of it, it's not a bad show but it felt way too jumbled and disjointed to be consistently enjoyable for me. This is going to be a much shorter review but to put it simpily, I really enjoyed this movie. It's the only anime movie based on a series that I consider to be better than the source material. Knockin on Heaven's Door basically took everything good about the series like the amazing animation, well produced action, good music, and incredible art and cranks it up to 11. This time however, the plot is actually much more consistent due it being a movie and not an episodic anime that sort of has a serial narrative. The movie's commitement to the whole urban city asthestic I do think is rather com…

It's very common for movies based on TV shows to end up feeling like an extra long episode and this is certainly not an exception. However, this movie mostly succeeds because the solo-episode format of the series allows for this to tell its own quality story without feeling too out of place. With that being said, I do think that this story, despite its quality, could have been told in 2 or maybe 3 episodes of the show rather than a full two-hour long movie, and it doesn't have quite the same seamless pacing the show does. Still waiting on an Ein solo movie though.
