Compared to the first season, Overlord now has a story with a clear direction, but what does that matter if it’s the most generic and boring thing ever? We can divide it into two phases: before and after the lizardmen. Seriously, why waste time on such a tedious story that was soon cast aside? And right after that, we were presented with a drama set in a city full of humans that runs all the way to the end, all while almost completely avoiding the anime’s protagonist, I had almost forgotten I was watching Overlord.
At least the animation didn’t disappoint, we’re talking about Mad House here, but it’s so sad that such high quality was wasted on an anime so mid as Overlord.

Well, Season 2 doubles down on being a Dark Isekai with strong Seinen vibes — even more so than Season 1. This season really cements the series as “the thinking man’s isekai.”
Season 2 leans heavily into mature seinen territory. We’re fully committed to the villain’s perspective — Ainz and Nazarick are not misunderstood heroes, they are an existential threat to the entire world. The season shows the cold, calculated extermination of entire tribes in the Lizardmen arc and the ruthless manipulation of human kingdoms without any sugarcoating or forced justification.
It explores moral ambiguity, brutal realism, and the consequences of overwhelming power. Weakness equals death, and the show doesn’t shy away from it. A big focus is on political intrigue and empire building — subterfuge, intelli…

Different strokes for differents folks. People watch anime for different reasons. The misconception some people have about Overlord is that It is a power fantasy. So, They are disappointed when they see It's much more than that.
Some Isekai trash fans and shonen slop lovers are confused about the focus on the world instead of Ainz. They don't understand Multi Pov storytelling.
Don't watch this if you can't keep up with many characters at once. Overlord is a taxing series. It's not slop you put to pass time. You have to focus and pay attention when you watch Overlord because there are many storylines happening at the same time.
Some people even have the balls to say isekai slop like Eminence in the shadow does aura farming better than Overlord. Already, it's blasphemy to compare the two…

Just as I predicted in the first season, the underdeveloped story has grown significantly in Season 2, making it clearly better than Season 1. Let’s keep this review short but (I ended up making it longer again!)
Story :
Overlord II adapts Volumes 4, 5, and 6 of the light novel. The first arc focuses on the Lizardmen and presents the story largely from their perspective. Ainz, in his goal to expand Nazarick’s power, plans to conquer the Lizardmen in order to raise an undead army from their corpses.
The "protagonist" of this arc is Zaryusu, a brave and clever warrior. He takes it upon himself to unite the scattered Lizardman tribes, who had previously fought among themselves over limited resources and food. Through diplomacy and strength, Zaryusu succeeds in bringing the tribes together.…

I liked the first season of overlord, so i thought the 2nd season will be like wise. But I am really disappointed. They spend 4 episodes on some lizards, man i don't think who will be willing to watch some lizards blushing over each other. After the lizards, they spent 15 minutes of the episode on unimportant character talking to each other. The undeveloped character like Climb who has no depth, just Bragg about working hard without any sense of reality has more screen time than the mc Ainz. I think there are some people who might enjoy the romance between Sebas and the girl he saved. But i think most of the people in this world are not pedophile who won't enjoy a old geezer kissing and blushing with a girl of her granddaughter's age. Although it has a good climax and i think season 3 will…

Even better than the first season. While the review may seem a bit high, you have to take the show for what it is. It's still just an isekai. You aren't going to watch it for explorative themes. If you come in hoping for that, you'll be disappointed. if you expect an isekai pseudo-power fantasy, you'll love it.
Ains is a great character and his inner monolog is as goofily charming as ever. It does wonders at making him feel like the awkward nerd who whaled on an MMO. He and his subordinates are just as cool as ever, the fights are good enough and some are excellent. The world-building is still very good, especially for an isekai, and the fights still feel like proper PvP in MMO's. And the show does an amazing job of building up every character. Even random ones who serve no purpose besid…

This is not a full review, but rather explanation why I feel Overlord stands above the standard.
Something are good because they are good, and somethings are good because they are something that others are not. For me, Overlord is good not because I feel it objectively shines above all other in terms of story and characters (though I feel they are certainly above average), but because it scratches a very specific craving I've developed over the years with excessive anime consumption.
To put it short, I've had my fill of holy savior protagonists, the messiahs, the good boys, the infallible morally just protagonists. I am also sick to death of the edgelords that talk all dark and edgy, yet also never do no actual harm to anyone who isn't literally so evil they eat babies for breakfast. Als…

Overlord II is an improvement over Overlord. The plot seems to be going somewhere now.
However it still suffers from the previous' shortcomings of dragging things out for too long. There are alot of time wasted focusing on non interesting characters.
The first couple of episodes of season 2 starts off kinda rough by focusing alot of screen time on some lizard race. The overall outcome of that arc was satisfying but maybe went on for longer than it needed to.
The main character is still continuing his plan of world domination by playing both sides of villain and hero. Pulling the strings from behind the curtain. It is an intriguing plot.
The side characters are interesting when they dont take too much screen time. When too much focus is put on them it gets really boring and i start to…

Overall:
if you are reading this, you are watching it anyway, so yeah. Do keep in mind that this is a sequel to my overlord I review.
Ah yes, a guy got Isekai into a fantasy world.... as an evil overlord. As an isekai junkie, I am set to watch all isekai. This is one of those that explore the trope. Before I actually get to the review part, I would say that this anime's isekai world is probably one of the most solid and well-thought-out. It isn't the isekai you watch to kill time, it is the one you watch to thing and enjoy the ride. Short conclusion: 8/10
Driving deeper
Art: pretty much the same as season 1, nothing really improved or degraded.
7.5/10
Character: I'll take some short cut and say that it is the same great character as in season 1 with more extremely well-thought-out cha…

A solid second season, which was built well on the foundations of the first one, advanced the established characters and even introduced new ones. But it not just achieved everything that a good sequel should, but kept the overall story of Overlord interesting to keep the hype up for the third season as well.
The world building is as solid as it was previously, but unfortunately it inherited the slowness and murkiness as well. After 26 full-fledged episode, we still have little knowledge about the world, the factions, the power levels and the magic system. While it is no way a bad thing it has a sour aftertaste, an ominous feeling, that it is this slow by the sole intention to be used as the main tool to keep the potential interest above a certain level, instead of leaning on the characte…

Are you a fan of anime and loved the first season of Overlord? Well, get ready to be blown away by season 2! The main character, Momonga, AKA Ainz Ooal Gown, is back and reigning over the game world with an iron fist. However, he faces new challenges from other players and adventurers who stumble upon his kingdom.
Season 2 is jam-packed with action, adventure, and intrigue that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The NPCs continue to evolve and develop their own personalities, and the relationships between characters become even more complex. The animation and soundtrack are still impressive, with some truly epic moments.
Not only do we get to see more of our favorite characters, but new ones are introduced that add to the mix. They offer a fresh perspective on the game world and pr…

This is my 2nd time trying to complete season 2 of Overlord. Make no mistake, season 1 is absolutely amazing and a must watch, so when season 2 came out some while back- I was really hype. I think I dropped it by episode 3 or 4. Buuuutttt now with 4 seasons under it's belt, I figure I'd give it another go. And yeah- it was alright.
To sum fairly quick, this season follows Ains Ooal Gown and his ragtag group of gang as they try to take over the land. Except, it's not- this season focuses on world building, and world building it does. Like......a loooooooonnggg time. Too long. And too boring. They dedicated 3 whole episodes on Lizardmans when honestly- very few really cares. Listen- world buidling is important and necessary yes, but we're here to see Ains Ooal Gown and his gang, not two liz…

Overlord II picks up straight where the first series left off. It continues moving in the direction of Momonga gathering information to increase his as well as his companions reputation in order to hopefully reach out to other real players from the original Yggdrasil game, if any exist that is.
This installment takes a bit of a different angle in progressing though as Momonga does take a seat on the sidelines for the most part. Instead he uses his wit to try and gain following in effort to spread his influence and also gain more information at a quicker pace given what happened to Shalltear previously. He also takes this time to experiment with a couple different things all the while testing one of his companions.
Sebas (Not the one I referenced above) is sort of in the spotlight a bit t…

I have never understood why Overlord receives so much praise.
It is practically a generic isekai light novel adaptation, but with older characters, giving it the illusion of maturity. Overlord is not mature, it's not remotely well written, its visuals don't even look good. The character designs look cool, and all but that isn't enough to carry a boatload of mediocrity. Both this season and the first were at best disposable entertainment, like any other isekai light novel adaptation. What's the appeal of it? Is it that Momonga is a ridiculously overpowered self-insert protagonist and his legion of ladies all want him?
Momonga is a typical isekai protagonist. An overpowered character doesn't become good just by not being a teenage boy. Skeleton or kid, there is no difference. Skeletons are…

not enough hamsuke screen time hamsuke is the greatest character in history and for them to just blatantly ignore hamsuke this season should be considered a crime against all of humanity ainz is a total pushover who gets peer pressured into conquering the world by a bunch of npcs who technically arent real like the shows literally called overlord he could really just be like lmao i dont really wanna do any of that im your boss lmao listen to me and they really cant do anything about it considering that they all pretty much worship him also best outro but worst opening ik thats all personal but im just stretching this out cause MAL wanted me to make this longer the only thing i actually wanted to talk about was the hamsuke part

So that's it, the story of Overlord is picking up speed and is finally good.
I previously posted a review of the first season where i recommended it but was ultimately disapointed and cringed about most of it.
Season 1 aged badly. Season 2 didn't.
Beside the originality of the plot and the start of a real worldbuilding, this season hide in its corners a plethora of potential future conflicts. A banner torn on the ground, a creepy smile, names spoken, feelings shown. Tiny instance building hype and wonder, making you think and imagine. It's my favourite part of reading/watching fantasy.
If you managed to get past the first 3 episodes of the first season and then finish the whole thing you MUST watch this season. Your suffering wasn't for nothing :p
Yeah, i really enjoyed these 13 epi…

Overlord - 2
If you have seen the first season and it was NOT to your liking, I recommend you draw a line here, it won't change much.
The focus in this season is also on the presentation of the world and the different races as well as how Ainz interacts with them. Compared to the first season, this one has a little better pacing and a more interesting plot. You still shouldn't expect too much, this season practically consists of 2 side quests.
[Story 3]
The first half of the season revolves around the lizard people and their personal stories. Their plot is told from their perspective, with the protagonist as the antagonist. Which throws up a relatively fresh breeze, but is practically as cliched and simplistic as it gets.
The second arc revolves around Sebas, one of Ainz's generals…

The first half of this season I found kind of boring - I wasn't a massive fan of the lizard men and their arc. It was just rather basic and I wasn't particularly enthralled by any of the characters on display. The second half looked up a bit more, and Demiurge constantly going on about elaborate plans with Ainz just kind of going along with it is one of my favourite aspects of this series - he really is just going with the flow here. If this was based on the latter half alone, it would have been more 5 stars, but alas I had to take the first half of the season into consideration as well.
This is still the typical isekai with an overpowered protagonist who is rather basic, surrounded by attractive women. Yes, these women are more monstrous than most and they aren't necessarily the complete…

I had high hopes for this anime after watching the first season, but the continuation came to be an utter disappointment.
From the start, Momoga seemed like a confused character, who had to play the role of an evil overlord and hold to the expectations of his servants, yet still helping others making it seem as though he did it for his own benefit. Unfortunately, that was just a false impression, and with the events of the 2nd season, we can definitely see that he is actually a villain who tries to create an impression of a fair ruler. He claims to bring prosperity to those who submit to his will, but he won't even offer that choice until he slaughters a number of people, like he did with lizardmen; he would summon his minions to a city and allow men, women, and children to be captured fo…

One of the most horrible sequels I have ever watched. I am not sure I will be able to watch season three now that I watched that. Look if you like it you like it but I certainly didn't. I won't spoil it but some of the characters are in the intro and outro music that are gone after half the anime and you don't even see them again. To be honest I don't see the point of even having them in the series in the first place if the people aren't even there for most of the anime. I am sorry if this sounds confusing just trying not to spoil it for people.
