Ruri Rocks, an okay anime from 2025. The concept was interesting, but this anime gets boring very quickly. The author is using a gimmick, then openly making that gimmick the entire point of the story. There were sexual scenes of Ruri in the Manga, which were disgusting considering Ruri is a little girl, So i'm glad they removed those scenes in the anime adaptation. The story i also expected would be better, unfortunately this is an extremely mid anime storywise. Now, talking about the Animation, i can admit it is really beautiful, the artsyle is definitely unique and doesn't look generic. The Rocks that they find look amazing.

(Free of spoilers (This series doesn't even have any spoilers that would actually ruin it's experience btw.))
Well, in this anime we accompany a little girl named Ruri, who has some really great passion for gemstones. After her mom denying buying a quartz gem necklaces, she tries to find herself one in a forest, which were famous for having a lot of it. Instead of finding it, she meets up a woman there, who is in fact a Geologist (i think? i forgot it already lel.), she helps Ruri to find some quartz, and that meet up beetwen them, will absolutely change Ruri's life destiny.
We now accompain through the anime Ruri learning a lot of new and interesting stuff about gemstones (not only gemstones, but i will talk about this later) with her new friends, Nagi and Youko.

It's not an incredible series, but I think it's better than most.
I was close to dropping it because I found Ruri unbearable, but her character development was incredible.
What impressed me even more was how college students, as busy as they are, could devote so much time to helping the other girls. It's amazing that Nagi never seemed to think, "It's probably just a passing whim."
Later on, you learn why Nagi is the way she is, and everything starts to make a lot more sense.
If we'd all had someone like Nagi in our lives, I think getting through certain moments or choosing a career would have been much easier. The right person showing up at the right time to give you that little push and turn a "hobby" into something more.
There are other series with a similar theme, but they're usual…

I used to pray for shit like this
A very common criticism I have when it comes to animes is that genuinely most of the animes are made by Otakus for other otakus using only otaku culture as anchor point. This modern way of doing contrasts with my love for other sciences and arts, love of sciences and arts that i saw first in 90's/2000's anime. What I love is when the mangaka takes inspiration from things that Aren't pop culture and this anime fits perfectly in that
It's an anime about girls searching for rocks and that's it . it's not trying to be something else and I love it. After the huge pile of trash ive watched recently its amazing to find such thing. of course i still find downsides like for example how some characters are a bit too one dimensional for my liking but that's abo…

This is a very nice anime to watch.
This anime tells about a particular branch of science i.e. mineralogy in such an amazing manner! There's adventure and learning in this anime.
The characters are good too, there's Nagi-san with her mature and patient personality, and there's Ruri-chan who is energetic and impulsive. The gradual introduction of other characters was perfect.
The artwork is amazing in this anime. The environment is shown with such detail, it's beautiful. I liked the attempt put into making the viewers understand certain scientific concepts through nice animations.
The opening and ending songs are also quite good and the animation for these songs is also amazing!

Came for the boobs, stayed for the rocks.
An educational CGDCT anime sounds like nightmare pitch, but Ruri Rocks is a pleasant surprise. Even with zero interest in rocks, minerals, or geology, the explanations are engaging and it feels rather charming than dry.
The series does not try to do everything, but what it does attempt, it handles extremely well. There are not many deeply fleshed-out characters, but the ones given focus are likable, consistent, and feel like they have lives outside the main story. Even without big backstories, they come across as real people with hobbies, habits, and personalities.
The visuals are another major strength, this show could be eye-fucked by anyone. The background art especially is gorgeous. You could pick almost any random moment, take a screenshot, a…

for media of any kind to make me want to go outside and enjoy the beauty of nature is rare and highly appreciated. and this anime did just that! i had the constant urge to just go for a walk and take a good look around where i would've otherwise glanced over. but being outside the confines of my room as an anime fan is preposterous so here i am writing a review.
you can't talk about the anime without atleast mentioning the animation. the colors, the landscapes, the vegetation! i guess it's only natural for a show about rocks to be beautiful in everything related to geology, but it's still and outstanding aspect. the forests they walk through are lush and vivid. you can imagine the nasty mosquito bites you can get from staying in the shade for too long after haphazardly applying repellant…

Rarely do you see an anime capture so completely the feeling of wonder one gets from pursuing a passion, pursued for its own sake, wreathed in a genuine and unalloyed joy that is hard to describe or compare to anything else. Ruri Rocks does this with masterful ease, and the result is a fundamentally heartwarming, educational, and healing experience. Beginning with the story, we follow a simple yet potent premise of a girl discovering her passion for mineralogy and geology, led along in this journey by an adventurous and level-headed grad student, as this duo gathers friends and characters along the way. It's a plot with a lot of staying power and the potential for basically endless new stories to tell, as they explore the intricacies of each new mineral and each new geological process they…

Studio bind delivers another beautifully animated, peaceful anime.
A cute girls doing cute things anime, the anime follows young teen Ruri as she dives into her affinity for pretty gems. She’s aided by Nagi Arato, a college mineralogy student and patient mentor. Together with their friends, they learn and teach about different gems, how to find them, and why it is important to follow your passions.
A relaxed affair, Ruri Rocks is best enjoyed over lunch on a sunny afternoon. It is healing by nature, the sound design is easy on the ears, and the animation is spectacular. After my decade plus of watching anime, it has been hard to get into new shows, which all seem derivative or self important. Something like this, with its calming music and warm color palette, is much more digestible.

I had never thought about rocks or minerals in my life, they just "existed" and sure, some of them were pretty but I never cared about it. Now I feel like I would even study mineralogy or would at least try it as a hobby. This anime made something that I took for granted and uninteresting and made it very, very, very appealing.
The character designs are cute, the animation is good, the soundtrack is relaxing and it never feels boring. If you are looking for something with a deep plot and twists, this might not be your cup of tea, but if you want something to watch and relax while also learning more about this planet, then it is perfect, probably one of the best if not the best "cute anime girls doing things" anime I have watched.

I'm usually someone who likes deep, engaging stories and tales that are dark, gritty, gut wrenching and emotionally driven. So, why did I choose to watch this then? Well, it's quite simple really - sometimes, just chilling for a bit is really rewarding and enjoying something straightforward and simple is enjoyable. I was also oddly drawn to this anime from the first moment I saw it and only after I started it did I realize why this was the case. I will dig into this deeper, but TLDR Ruri Rocks is a really wholesome and fun series that is just pure joy to experience and it's wonderfully educational about a topic that doesn't get enough love - minerology! So I recommend you give it a chance.
In terms of execution, this anime is basically perfect! The colours are vibrant, varied and very ple…

Ruri Rocks is easily a contender for my favorite “cute girls do hobbies” show that I’ve seen to date. With this particular hobby being more of a scientific study, in this case mineralogy, the story goes all-in on detailed explanations of how different rocks and crystals are formed over the course of thousands, even millions of years, in a manner that’s easily digestible for the audience. There’s also an overarching feeling of the grandiosity imparted with each discovery, wisely conveying the sheer scale of all the processes involved in how each new formation got to its current state, often leaving me and its main characters awestruck at the weight of eons of development.
Watching our central cast follow the steps down the scientific method in order to discover the location of hidden crysta…

This mineralogy-themed anime is quite enjoyable and surprisingly educational, offering clear and easy-to-understand explanations. Of course, it can be criticized for not fully portraying the entire scientific process or for taking liberties with how things work in reality, but even so, it serves as a great entry point into the field.
I also appreciated how the anime expands into related areas such as physics, chemistry, and history. Additionally, it consistently uses visual and narrative tools that make the content accessible to a non-specialized audience.
The series also includes several fanservice scenes, although they are relatively mild. Overall, I see this anime as a solid introduction to mineralogy for anyone interested in the subject.

Ruri Rocks is an educational slice-of-life anime made by Studio Bind, the studio that is also responsible for the Mushoku Tensei series. It is a very well thought out series, as it manages to make rocks, gems, and geography, subjects that appear boring on the surface, stand out in a very engaging manner.
Positives:
Characters: Each of the characters in this series stands out in their own way. It's quite impressive to see Ruri go from being money-minded about expensive gems to actually involving herself in the process of petrology. Nagi is a great contrast from Ruri, with her laid-back personality and knowledge compared to Ruri's hyperactive and energetic personality. Imari and Shouko also offer a lot of fun and knowledge to the series and are a nice contrast from Nagi's personality. It's…

More than just a show about mineralogy, Ruri Rocks is an invitation to see the world differently -- art made by someone who truly, from the bottom of their hearts, believes that our entire universe is beautiful and interconnected, that the dust in our gutters comes from outer space, and that you don't need to be smart or special to start paying attention to it right now. It is tirelessly dedicated to instilling that naïve, contagious sense of curiosity, and there's no shame in being honey-potted into it by cute girls.
Watch this if you consider yourself a nerd. Definitely watch it if you don't.

This is an informative anime that educates the audience about geology and minerals. Rocks are often drawn beautifully and our main character is drawn to it for its beauty but the show does more , our characters learn about where the rock comes from how to look for it by investigating sediment and mineral deposits. This is such a good show for those curious about earth science.
I like the characters who are full of curiosity and wonder. Its a slow relaxing show where character often hang around river streams and hills.
I like the Intro. The song is good. Backgrounds are lovely and full of beautiful scenery. The character animation is good too.
My Rating : 7/10 (Good)

It's difficult to come up with a fair assessment of Ruri Rocks. It's a show about rocks and geology, so I suppose it deserves credit for not being as boring as it could have been. That said, it's still kind of boring.
There isn't really any reason to recommend against watching the show, save for the fact that there also isn't really any reason to recommend watching it either. It's a slice of life show, so you can expect low stakes and slow pacing, but even taking that into account there's a significant absence of anything even resembling conflict or a plot arc. They go looking for rocks, sometimes they find what they're looking for, sometimes they find other rocks, rinse and repeat for 13 episodes.
The characters are fun and likeable, the production is solid, it's not bad by any stretch,…

The reason why anime is the God gifts to humankind. Honestly, it feels so long since the last time i didn't have to convince myself that a show was more or less than what i initially thought. Ruri no Houseki or Introduction to Mineralogy is the easiest, most solid show to rate and enjoy this year!
Educational, proportional, entertaining. And so unashamed with their blatant fanservice(s), that you can't help but be polite while admiring those passion(s) which has been poured into the clear, smooth animation, as well as the research on the matter(s). While you can definitely say it's the animation that carried this whole thing(s), i feel like it never took the spotlight from the information being delivered; subtle on the smallest gestures, but meticulous that the whole thing(s) can't help…

Incredible anime, 10/10. Even Dr. Stone wasn’t able to make science look so alluring, so intertwined with our daily lives.
If, before this season, someone had told me I would become interested and passionate about science, I would have laughed. But here I am - reading books I would have never picked up, watching videos, and subscribing to channels I never knew existed. I’ll never look at the mountains the same way again; even the dust beneath my feet feels somehow different. I can count on one hand how many anime have affected the real me behind the screen, and Ruri is one of them. If that’s not a sign of a masterpiece, I don't know what is.
The highlights for me are the last two episodes. I knew, in theory, that modern technology is, at the end of the day, just the utilization of rocks…

Not only the stones and minerals, but every element in this anime is truly beautiful.
The graphics are incredible, the artwork is very detailed, the character designs are great, and most importantly, the story itself.
I never expected that learning about stones and minerals could be this interesting and enjoyable.
One season is definitely not enough — I really hope there will be a second season, and even more if possible, I’ll keep watching.
I want to see whether Ruri will go to college and choose the same major as Nagi and Imari.
I also want to see the journey and research that Ruri will conduct in the future.
Seto has already decided on her future to study in the field of mineralogy, and I hope Ruri will do the same.
I have no hesitation in giving this anime a solid 10 out of 10.
I hope…
