If you're into the synopsis, watch it. But if you're not, it's going to feel like a slog to get through.
I borrowed this dvd from my library because the premise sounded interesting. Like other reviews mention, this movie is HEAVILY about the world building. It gives you ample time to take in the scenery, but at the same time, I was worried if my dvd was pausing as some shots felt like they held too long. The story itself flowed fine, but the side characters DEFINITELY needed more screen time to not feel one dimensional. There's one character who could have easily not been included in the story and nothing would have changed as they only have a couple lines and their contributions are just immediately brushed aside. There's so much material packed into this that it feels like something tha…

ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ノ゙This movie is definitely an interesting spectacle and a fine addition to any "watched anime" collection. However, it is not flawless. The background art and animation are beautiful and can be a real pleasure to look at, but the characters look plastic and cheap. It doesn't seem to be an artistic choice, rather a lack of budget. This contrast alone made me feel a bit weird at first, however after some time you can get use to it. This division portrays this anime very well however. The character design is shallow and does not go in-depth. You, most likely, won't get any unforgettable memories from them. Some are even introduced only for the sake of existing, and their removal would not change anything at all. Porta (one of the characters) has an interesting relationship with one oth…

This anime is like a sudden drop from a swing, only instead of screaming, you think, "Wow, this is beautiful." Patema Inverted is one of those stories that plays with gravity and your brain at the same time, but it does so in such a gentle and emotional way that you don't even notice when you start rooting for the characters with all your heart.
It begins like a classic adventure story, but quickly turns into a tale of closeness, trust, and how different worlds can complement each other better than one might think. Patema and Age are complete opposites — not only in character, but literally... in the direction they fall. And seriously, this inverted gravity motif is used brilliantly. Not as a visual trick, but as a metaphor for being "different" and searching for one's place.
The world a…

This movie had the potential to be a masterpiece, but it shot itself in the foot quite a bit.
It starts off great, fantastical, decent dialogue, decent characters (it was quite a bit like a scifi Made in Abyss), but then it starts to get dumb in lots of little ways and it becomes progressively harder to overlook all the lack of survival instinct and contrivances and the dialogue/everything starts to take a nosedive as the pedo nazi Betelgeuse starts cringing across the screen and the brains stop braining (the main characters play out conversations of genuine idiocy when trying to overcome the most basic challenge of perspective taking that children already learned yet this movie seems to think is incredibly deep and difficult to understand that it takes every opportunity to dumb it down, a…

Ah, where do I begin, this anime is as beautiful as the first time I watched it as a kid and wanted to rewatch it with my friend as my bird brain had forgotten what the show was even about. I'm glad I was able to rewatch this show and rekindle my love for it. The animation is very colorful and cheery. The scenery, the characters are all *chef's kiss* I loved every second of this show with it's stunning colours, I can't talk about the animation enough as it makes the show even more worth watching. To me, the animation alone deserves a solid ten outta ten the animation's great for real
As the for the music, I've never really pay much attention to it irrespective of the show but not for this, the background music was heavenly as it beautifully supported the scenes they were in, I can't say th…

This is the first of many films I'll be watching weekly with a friend of mine recommending 1 film each weekly. This was my friends suggestion and I am very happy this was our first.
The best part about this anime is the beautiful animation. This is an film that has no action, no mind blowing set pieces and holds it's own against the technical marvels of those types of anime with just how beautifully presented it is. There are some love still, stunningly presented scenes at the begining when Patema is exploring her worlds tunnels that are in a similar vein to FF10 and older. Just a beautiful still image with the character moving through them. It's an art form we have lost on video games and made me smile rather widely when I saw it here. Beyond this, the world is displayed beautifully, wi…

I really wanted to like this one... When I heard the premise, I was immediately on board. It sounded like it had so much potential for a really compelling story, especially in the romance and drama department. But it was all just sorta.... not fun? The story was a lot more bleak and grim than I was expecting. There are also a LOT of very ridiculously specific happenstances that the plot hinges on in order to stay afloat (heh). The visuals are also incredibly bland, which was disappointing. I would love to see another film or show take this premise and try to do something better, because the pitch is really, REALLY interesting. It just took it in a direction that I really didn't care for.
5/10

What I can say? This anime has an easy to guess story, the plot twist is not too surprising, everything in the movie seems messed up, the pace of the movie is quite fast, watching the villain is quite annoying.
The art style:8/10. yep, is good for 2013 anime
The sound: 9/10. Its good
Character: 5/10. The characters have vague pasts and their relationships are too predictable (I even guessed the relationships of the main characters after they first met).
I quite dislike this anime, maybe because it doesn't suit me, but in my opinion it's quite okay In short: 6/10
(After watching it, I felt like my brain was actually turned upside down.)

Okay, so it was a mid watch, not fantastic but simply good. The basic concept kept me engaged. “It’s not a groundbreaking film, but it does give you some food for thoughts.” I believe the movie could have been better if they had spent more time developing the script and tell us a lot more about this world etc, like more interesting characters and a better villain. I would have appreciated a complex version of this story.
Animation was pretty good considering the year it was aired.
"Inverts," like Patema, are sinners that will be "swallowed by the sky," ~ phrase that made me watch it (also the key art)

This movie would absolutely be a 10, with its groundbreaking cinema and the unique niche it set's our cast's lives in.
The sheer theory around this movie is about gravity and how different gravitational forces can not only be an obstacle, but also bring two lives together.
Sadly, I cannot give this a 10, because this movie is how I discovered I have mild vertigo. I can't watch this movie in earnest without becoming dizzy.
That being said, I share this movie wholeheartedly with my friends because It is just an absurdly good watch.
I personally enjoy the class system and how the politics are due to the nature of the world.
Post apocalyptic gravity defying entertainment, Spoiler free review.

Imagine walking on the ceiling of your room or any other closed environment & think about all the subtle changes that you might notice. You feel a bit dizzy now that gravity might work a bit differently, your pen might not work properly, you would have a hard time figuring out at all the upside down faces & objects, and you would probably feel way more awkward if you try to hug someone. By a small change in your perspective, your entire world looks and feels vastly different, which is fascinating. What's even more fascinating but equally terrifying, is when you think about "Falling" from this perspective. Where do you really fall? If you take a small peak outside of a door or a window under you, an endless sky will be waiting to make you disappear in a single second.
It's different, confus…

A very endearing and heartwarming story with a 1984ish setting
Yup, who would've thought those polar opposites would work so well together?
On the one hand you have the sweet encounter of Patema and Age, bursting with curiosity about eachother's worlds
And on the other, the rejection of said curiousity by their respective societies, with Patema's coming more from a more protective instinc (especially towards their young) but still being kinda open to the idea of exploration, and Age's, from an obsession with order and control (ring a bell?)
Though the initial pace is a little slow, the twist and turns it takes are definitely worth sitting thru to the end

Patema Inverted is a story about a girl who wants to explore what's beneath their underground home. When she went there, she found a whole place inverted and a boy who is also inverted. They went to know each other and tend to escape from the government's resistance.
I just found this anime on google and I'd say they recommend some good sheet of paper. I will watch some anime from google searches from now on because its also interesting coming from the anime title. I thought i will enjoy as much as I expected because the story is full of bad twist like how the world works and hidden after hidden places. The world is like the boy who looks up to the night's sky to see bright stars is all untrue because they really look to the main ground of the world where lifeless world reign. This world…

So the story was probably most dissapointing of all, but don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad, it was just a little confusing.
Animations were very good and sound effects were also pretty good. Enjoyment was outstanding, but mostly because of me and my homies just making fun of Australians and nazis, you will understand what I'm talking about after watching it. Overall it was good, but I recommend watching it with a crew that possess good amout of dark humor.
To sum it up, it's basicaly a guide how to get to Australia... plus tons of enemies, that look like nazis.

first of all the story it wasnt too predictable and it wasnt some story that is told everywhere so thats really good. however its not a story where you would say like wow omg that story so i went with a 7 wich means it was good and better than average.
The art was really good not only could you see otherworldly stuff no the detail and the love put it in was amazing. The art deserves 10 in my opinion because i really liked it.
i didnt pay much attention to the sound and 7 means it wasnt outstanding but it wasnt bad. at least to me that is.
The characters i mean the main protagonist is kinda cute and its not generic. however
most characters seem are really one dimensional except maybe the main protagonists. so what can i say. 7
enjoyment. I had a mediocre enjoyment i mean seeing it fo…

Sakasaka No Patama, this anime is quite disappointing, because it turns out that this anime has a confusing phase and a plot twist that doesn't make sense, the opening of this anime is good at first, makes us curious what really happened, but from the middle to the end, this anime starts to deviate far, this anime also fails to provide a tense atmosphere during the chase with the security police, even the security police can't give a scary aura and instead look stupid.
This anime has beautiful art for 2013, and 3D CGI is pretty good, although some of the CGI scenes are too much motion blur.
The character development of the villain is also not good, so the villain looks ridiculous and stupid,
Overall, this anime is still worth watching.

Okay, this movie is very intriguing and interesting in some ways. I specifically like how the concept was novel and overall I found it to be a very interesting story. In terms of character design, I feel that the main character had a more generic appearance to him however in terms of story development I felt like it is adequately covered within the movie. The art style was average 7/10. Overall I did like the uniqueness of the movie and the interesting story development between the two main characters of the movie. I would great the movie as 8 out of 10 overall and I would definitely recommend it to other people to watch.

Imagine if M. Night Shymalan had directed a science fiction Studio Ghibli film using many of the characters from Castle in the Sky. I know that might sound like a very bizarre way to describe a movie but that's exactly how Patema Inverted felt like to me.
From the writer-director of the ONA series Time of Eve, this is a much more ambitious and competent science fiction film that takes hold of a concept that's so ingeniously original that you are compelled to watch the film just to see in what direction the plot moves forward. The idea shares some similarity to the 2012 Canadian film "Upside Down" but from what I have understand, Patema Inverted executes this concept with much more proficiency and likeability.
The characters are a bit generic and a lot of them do feel like they are stra…

It's a story about a 14 years old girl 'Patema' who lives in underground and loves to explore, and by her curiosity, she found something really surprising. An Inverted World!! And that's how the story began, But the real question here is, "who's Inverted here?"....
The Art style, Story, Sound everything was really beautiful. The two main characters are to some sorts well written but they could've used more depth. One that has a strong will to never give you up, one that has a strength to protect you from the dangers.
What if you have no ground to stand? What if Gravity is working against you? what if your surroundings are upside down? What if you're holding on something but if you let go you may fall in to sky? If you wanna know, Just go for it.....

While the basic idea is neat, the execution of it deserves execution. The antagonists are so comically evil, you'd think it's satire, but it is not, this shit takes itself very seriously. Whatever depth this movie could have gets destroyed by the movie shoving everything into the viewers face, no subtlety at all. this is the most obvious when the movie repeatedly flips the image upside down to tell you something about how important perspective is, despite how obvious that message already is given the main gimmick of the film. The only good thing about this dumpsterfire is the character Patema herself and the animation itself. All other characters are either boring, only have one character trait, don't have any reason to be in the movie or all of the above. From the first 10-15 minutes onwa…
